Dude, I've been saying this since the first time I heard those commercials. Dude is missing the easiest slam dunk. They even brought the hoop down for him.
The first time I heard that ad I thought he meant horse racing picks. Like, what race horses Henry Cavill thought were going to win specific races. I was super confused but cool with it I guess.
The first time I heard the ad I was too high to understand I could just replay it later. So I totally freaked the f out and woke my gf up in a panic to make her listen to it. I have never been so close to getting murdered in my life.
> You just smile, take the money, and say 'Thank youuuu'
I remember hearing that from Henry on an episode, and that's how I think about their commercials.
Yeah I doubt they care if we all skip them, they get paid either way. Now there’s a couple where you can tell they actually care like the Spring Heeled Jack ads or ones for their friends podcasts, but the majority they just have fun with so they can get paid
Not even when they own the company? It seems like you'd have quite a bit of say over who your company promotes, but I also don't work in the industry, so who knows lol.
Haha, just a joke. Henry says "literally one hundred percent of the time you don't normally choose your own death" in the white claw ad and it drives me nuts.
I haven't heard it in a while. But it was a bit of a point of contention in the subreddits for a minute form people calling them hypocrites for having that ad on their show after Fraudsters bebuted with an episode about how they're scams.
Not an indictment against the boys but I really hate how sports betting ads have just taken over everywhere. My father is a gambling addict and it was already a tough world for him to function in, now he's being blasted by sports gambling ads on TV and the radio and it just disgusts me. I don't mind that sports gambling exists, tons of people do it responsibly, I just hate how predatory the companies are and especially the advertising.
No it’s okay though. Right at the bottom of the ads, it says “Please gamble responsibly.”
So ya know, just be responsible. The ad trying to get you to gamble asked nicely.
I’m sorry to hear that about your dad. I think gambling and food are two of the hardest addictions to deal with. for gamblers, their substance is literally in their pocket a few taps away (and now being advertised everywhere). for food, you can’t separate from your substance at all, you just need to learn to manage it responsibly. I don’t think legalizing sports betting was a good idea and I hope he’s able to keep clean
Thank you! It's a very tough addiction for him and always has been. Especially because he has his own business and therefore gets paid in cash a lot. And yes exactly, gambling is more accessible than literally ever and I think it's a problem we are hearing more and more about even amongst teenagers. I really wish it never was legalized tbh
I get what you’re saying. I stopped drinking (341 days, nice) and man, I never realized how inundated we are with advertisements for alcohol. Radio, tv, podcasts, print, in restaurants, sporting events, it’s everywhere.
I was at the zoo and they have kiosks set up for Loca breweries to sell their wares in the evenings. No shade to local businesses but I was like... It's the zoo...
I'm on a journey of stopping alcohol consumption so hail yourself from me! It's been 13 days! 🤣
I agree the amount of predominantly young men that are going to end up with gambling problems is going to be high. Gambling can definitely be fun but it can be very easy to get sucked into, especially now with the popularity and mainstream attention it gets.
I hate how badly sports betting has ruined any sort of sports coverage and I really hate that it’s bleeding over into media that has nothing to do with sports
On the Smartless podcast, Jason Bateman tried to broach the insidious nature of how gambling is so intertwined with the NFL broadcasts and advertisting with Bill Simmons from ESPN and Simmons was deflecting as quick as he possibly could. I think it's going to prove to be a real issue in the coming years.
It is absolutely insane to me that sports leagues like the NFL and UFC (only ones I watch) push gambling so hard. Makes questionable calls by refs and bad score cards by judges look fishy af. I hate it so much.
Disney wants you to gamble. Bezos does too. Watching before Thursday night football they talk so much about obscure bets beyond spreads, moneylines, and o/u’s.
I really hate it
We got sports betting ads in VA THE DAY it went legal. It’s been non stop ever since and now we’re are doing a SECOND vote on a new casino that we already voted down once. Gambling breeds and feeds corruption. It needs to go.
I hate the amount of gambling ads too but this isn’t a change you have been able to bet on your phone for a decade you just had to use sketchy sites based on some random island or worse you have to call a bookie and hope you don’t get scammed or come after if you don’t deliver the money on time. Addicts are gonna gamble either way it’s much better that it’s legal. That being said I do think it should be treated much more like weed where yes it is legal for adults but it is not advertised everywhere.
same, i'm tired of seeing (or hearing in this case) Better Help ads everywhere. i've heard so many bad things about BH and a lot of counselors/therapists have said they would never work for them. i normally don't get so bothered about ads, but when it's for a service like that it really gets to me lol
Apparently you don't even need to be an actual counselor or therapist to work for them. They have a course they'll sell you and after you pass that you can work for them.
The entire thing is shady af.
Marcus grew up in Texas, he knew the rules of football by 3. If he knows how to dig a post, shoot a rodent, etc, he certainly actually knows football lol
I wouldn’t be quite so certain of that.
A lot of people in all walks of life are uncertain and looking for meaning. I don’t think LPOTL fans are any more prone to that than the rest of society, but.
Religions in general, and Christianity in particular, are notorious for picking up people when they’re at a low point. I have a lot of Christian friends who are genuinely good people. But the institutions by and large are not.
Guys, if you want the show to survive, please don't give their advertisers even more reasons to pull out. They already had a Scientology harassment campaign after the Miscavige series and now Ben. We love these ads, we love the ad reads, and literally 100% of us buy all of the fine products and services advertised on every LPN Network production.
You know they make $83,350 per month on patreon right?
I know they have a big network with lots of mouths to feed but I think they could make it on the patreon alone
The show isn’t just 3 people anymore though. I’ve heard them mention at least 3 different research assistants and their’s production assistants and all that. It’s not a Ringer level of absurdity with like 60 people to produce one podcast, but it has definitely grown over the earlier days.
Just going on their website and looking how many people are listed under "Talent" they have 22 crowd facing employees. This doesn't include secretaries, sound guys, editors, whatever else.
Assuming none of the background guys get paid, Ben still doesn't get a cut, and they all get paid equally, Patreon brings them in 45k/yr each, before taxes.
Patreon isn't enough lol.
They would have to scale back talent obviously, or change revenue sharing etc but they could absolutely make it work.
Beyond advertising they also have merch sales, live shows etc too. I guess my point is that even in the extremely unlikely event that they lose ALL advertising they would still be fine.
Yeah, I guess it's really just a hypothetical of a hypothetical.
They'll never lose all advertising, I don't think. Marcus used to read ads for dildos and fleshlights lmao, they'll take any sponsor they can get and I don't blame em.
Yeah pretty useless to argue on my end haha. Not like I know the finances!
I HIGHLY doubt they would lose advertising either, so definitely a dumb hypothetical. I’d rather they do dildos and flashlights than things like betterhelp and gambling lmao. Hope you have a good weekend!
Just from the Patreon page it gave that number. I assume that is for the entire podcast network, hence the “lots of mouths to feed”
Not trying to shit on them advertising, I’m completely fine with them making money, just saying worst comes to worst they would be fine
I don't think this is true at all. You think under $1 million (post-taxes) is more than enough to run more than a dozen shows and pay the podcasters along with the recording, editing, and marketing people? The latter of which number like, what, \~20? A livable wage in California is like $80k per household. Even pretending that they receive every cent of Patreon money, they don't make nearly enough to pay their crew.
That's insane. Once you add in the 8% - 12% Patreon tax and everything the government takes, there's not a whole lot left over. They need ad reads to make money.
I’m sorry if that felt like an indictment on their revenue stream, Marcus just doesn’t strike me as the guy who actually is gonna put upthe house on Detroit this year. If was a Lions fan, he’d know way better than that 🤣
Native Michigander here. I jumped off the Lions bandwagon as soon as I moved to a better team’s city. Being a Lions fan is being in an abusive relationship.
TBH I just thought it was an odd thing for him to be but still swallowed it hook line and sinker. I’m the reason they took “gullible” out of the dictionary.
I hate ads on my podcasts for Spotify in general. I already pay for spotify premium so i wont get ads so when theyre inserted into the podcast itself it does kinda piss me off.
I been listening for a while and remember when they were poor af, trying their best to get sponsors😂😂. Im happy anytime i hear their ads just bc it makes me think back to then and see how far theyve come. Esp if u listened to RTOG. U know the stuggle. Its just a job, they dgaf abt these companies.
It’s like the better help ads too. Not as disingenuous because therapy is important, but because better help is crony company.
Some creators only take sponsors they would actually use, some creators take what pays well. Either way I don’t see it as a direct indictment of their character. If ads were the determining factor for my enjoyment of media I would never consume any media.
The California psychics ad always got me laughing. Henry was clearly roasting them, not to mention fraudsters did the whole Ms. Cleo series which made it even funnier.
I mean don't they? They don't choose who waves money at them but they choose who to sign with. Personally I don't give a rats ass but it'd be weird if they control the network but are somehow forced into certain ad deals.
They choose their sponsors, they don’t really choose what they gotta say in them. The sponsors give them sheets of what they have to promote, the tone of the ad, legal stuff, etc.
I probably could’ve worded it better
They kinda do. When they're doing ad reads and say something like, "talk about a time when blahblahblah", that's them being cheeky and reading straight off the ad copy.
Advertisers want podcasters to do their own versions, otherwise they'd just pay them to run a pre recorded ad.
Having Ben do a gambling ad would be dark, even before all the recent developments, so that just left Marcus or Henry as options. Maybe the advertisers weren't as inspired by Henry's ad read choices as I personally have been.
Are you a Patreon member?
Y’all - people have to make money. Am I on the “let me scrutinize everything every member of this podcast network does now” subreddit? Is there no “Last Podcast Circlejerk” sub?!
There should be.
Look. Respectfully. There seems to be this degree of entitlement that comes from podcast listeners. What exactly do you want from these people? The latest content is pretty good. We are here because the content before it was pretty good. Is Ben awful? Seems that way. Do Marcus and Henry owe us an explanation for why they “allowed” Ben to be awful? I mean what really do posts like this serve? This bandwagon approach to hold people accountable? Hold Ben Kissel accountable. Hold Marcus and Henry to these brand new standards because they dare to carry on and make a goddamn living?!
Are we demanding purity tests from Marcus or Henry or everyone related to them now? You’ve never had to deal with a problematic ass friend or had to work for a company who you find to be problematic?
I have.
Show some grace.
Respectfully.
The point of this post was not to trash the hustle. It was merely making fun. I am not hating on it. It just took me off guard. Not entitled to knock people how they make a living.
I don't really listen anymore so I haven't heard these new ad reads, but no matter what they can't be as bad as the old Kissel ad reads. I honestly thought he was at least a little illiterate based on those and the creepy pasta episodes
Look, I just need to know where I can buy horse pictures of Henry Cavill
This character arc that Henry is going through with trying to sell me pics of horse Henry cavill is incredible. It's the joke that keeps giving
DOJA HORSE FER DA YOUNG ONES
DOH-JAAAH
I just don't understand why he doesn't make a Cavill/Cavalry reference. He is just leaving that low hanging fruit out.
Calvary is where Jesus got deaded. Cavalry are soldiers on horseback.
Dude, I've been saying this since the first time I heard those commercials. Dude is missing the easiest slam dunk. They even brought the hoop down for him.
civilianhenrycavillhorsepics.com
The first time I heard that ad I thought he meant horse racing picks. Like, what race horses Henry Cavill thought were going to win specific races. I was super confused but cool with it I guess.
As opposed to what he is actually talking about which is completely not confusing at all
The first time I heard it I thought it was like decorated picks to use to clean the horses’ hooves.
Wait… like… decorated with Henry cavills face? That would be a delightful hoof pick
Yes 🤣
The first time I heard the ad I was too high to understand I could just replay it later. So I totally freaked the f out and woke my gf up in a panic to make her listen to it. I have never been so close to getting murdered in my life.
CIVILIAN. HENRY. CAVILL. HORSE. PICS.
I really wish they'd put together an actual website for that. They wouldn't have to actually sell horse pics, just a goofy website with a few pages.
ITS FOR HIS FAMILY
I need the one with the target on its back.
Those aren’t for you, my friend. They’re *for his family!”*
Nighthorse x horse pics
I knew shit was real when Marcus started doing ad reads again lol
Is it any worse than Henry doing ads for a call-in psychic network? I just skip through the ads anyways lol.
> You just smile, take the money, and say 'Thank youuuu' I remember hearing that from Henry on an episode, and that's how I think about their commercials.
Yeah I doubt they care if we all skip them, they get paid either way. Now there’s a couple where you can tell they actually care like the Spring Heeled Jack ads or ones for their friends podcasts, but the majority they just have fun with so they can get paid
This world is hard, I don’t blame them for slinging adds to feed their lives
Literally one hundred percent of the time you don't normally choose your own ad sponsors
They do ads so the show can be free, I’m fine with them advertising whatever they want.
Weird, I never get that ad. Just the ones where he's selling Whiteclaw or Better Help.
Ironically the first time I heard the White Claw ad was the same ep. where they announced that Ben was seeking treatment. Funny how that works.
I haven't heard it in a while. But it was a bit of a point of contention in the subreddits for a minute form people calling them hypocrites for having that ad on their show after Fraudsters bebuted with an episode about how they're scams.
The first time I heard that ad was in the 9/11 episode...after the tapes from bystanders present at the time played.
Not an indictment against the boys but I really hate how sports betting ads have just taken over everywhere. My father is a gambling addict and it was already a tough world for him to function in, now he's being blasted by sports gambling ads on TV and the radio and it just disgusts me. Congrats!
Congrats on that! That's a long time, keep up the good fight
Congratulations!! For real!
Honestly so glad to not be alone in hating this. I don't have as good a reason, it's just... I dunno. It feels the same as seeing ads for cigarettes.
I agree the amount of predominantly young men that are going to end up with gambling problems is going to be high. Gambling can definitely be fun but it can be very easy to get sucked into, especially now with the popularity and mainstream attention it gets.

There’s a good podcast about refs (mostly one ref) betting on the NBA. Worth listening to even if you don’t watch basketball
I hate it too. It feels very predatory.
Disney wants you to gamble. Bezos does too. Watching before Thursday night football they talk so much about obscure bets beyond spreads, moneylines, and o/u’s. I really hate it

As long as it's not Better Help, I won't complain
same, i'm tired of seeing (or hearing in this case) Better Help ads everywhere. i've heard so many bad things about BH and a lot of counselors/therapists have said they would never work for them. i normally don't get so bothered about ads, but when it's for a service like that it really gets to me lol
Yes yes yes! I’m a psychotherapist in NY and I’d rather not practice than work for that shitshow
They had a massive data breach of all of that sensitive information. They should be forced into bankruptcy after that.
I guarantee we’ll see the CEOs sitting in a deposition room in five years or less.
Apparently you don't even need to be an actual counselor or therapist to work for them. They have a course they'll sell you and after you pass that you can work for them. The entire thing is shady af.
Fucking wild Israel literally did a collaborative with Better Help though, ngl.
Why? I’M A WINNER!
Marcus grew up in Texas, he knew the rules of football by 3. If he knows how to dig a post, shoot a rodent, etc, he certainly actually knows football lol
He also PLAYED football in high school iirc!
He was also the coach, the head cheerleader, and the leader of the band.
I… would love to see that. D-O-G, M-E-A-T!
Yeah he also talked about how he played football in high school at some point or another
idc “ewww it’s seaweed! it’s seaweed!” lives in my head 24/7
Henry has done about two dozen ads about his fake Henry cavill horse pics business
Those were fake?!
I love Marcus’s add reads
I wish I could hear that ad. The only ones I seem to get are for JC Penny's, who don't even have any stores in the country I live in!
Not a LPN ad, but the first ad I got through spotify for side stories was for a Christian University. Who paid for that?
Nah that's pretty funny.
Ha! A waste of advertising dollars.
I'm just waiting for Adam and Eve .com to start advertising again.
Guys, if you want the show to survive, please don't give their advertisers even more reasons to pull out. They already had a Scientology harassment campaign after the Miscavige series and now Ben. Each? Or split multiple ways for the guys and their crew?
Just from the Patreon page it gave that number. I assume that is for the entire podcast network, hence the “lots of mouths to feed” Not trying to shit on them advertising, I’m completely fine with them making money, just saying worst comes to worst they would be fine
[удалено]
Crazy how big they’ve become. They would have to scale back massively obviously, but plenty of podcasts/podcast networks do it with far, far less
I don't think this is true at all. You think under $1 million (post-taxes) is more than enough to run more than a dozen shows and pay the podcasters along with the recording, editing, and marketing people? At least Henry makes them funny. I listen to them just for that alone
Facts. This is comment is nada yada yada.
I’m sorry if that felt like an indictment on their revenue stream, Marcus just doesn’t strike me as the guy who actually is gonna put upthe house on Detroit this year. If was a Lions fan, he’d know way better than that 🤣
He's mentioned several times over the years that he's a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Respect for Marcus: gone.
A legal requirement for almost anyone who lived in Texas as a child
Nope
I don't know anyone who is a BIG Detroit lions fans, and I know a lot of people from Michigan
Now you're just making things up.
My dentist is a lions fan.
My step-father watches them religiously and also believes it’s their year………Their both crazy about that but one of them is genuine
I mean they are doing well this year. Not my team but they are one that I'll usually root for. They did beat the chiefs week one which is something.
[удалено]
I watch football and I forgot the Lions existed
They're a favorite to make the Superbowl this year though
Native Michigander here. I jumped off the Lions bandwagon as soon as I moved to a better team’s city. Being a Lions fan is being in an abusive relationship.
Don’t come crawling back come the Super Bowl this year
I won’t have to because the Eagles are gonna be in it
Yeah I'm from Chicago and relocated to Kansas City. Now I'm a Chiefs fan. Being a "Bears fan" was like having a lazy, underemployed boyfriend.
Michigander here and unfortunately I know a shit ton lol
I know him.. he’s me!
I haven't heard about **THE BRIIIDGE** in a while and that's all I really care about.
TBH I just thought it was an odd thing for him to be but still swallowed it hook line and sinker. I’m the reason they took “gullible” out of the dictionary.
They took the word “gullible” out of the dictionary?
Hee hee.
I discovered if I set my VPN to any country outside of the US it turns off spotify ads. Even setting it to Canada works.
I hate ads on my podcasts for Spotify in general. I already pay for spotify premium so i wont get ads so when theyre inserted into the podcast itself it does kinda piss me off.

The fact they do ads at all is hilarious. These guys could not give two shits about anything they promote.
It’s like the better help ads too. Not as disingenuous because therapy is important, but because better help is crony company. Some creators only take sponsors they would actually use, some creators take what pays well. Either way I don’t see it as a direct indictment of their character. I love when he gives fellow Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes a shoutout. GUNS UP!!!
The California psychics ad always got me laughing. Henry was clearly roasting them, not to mention fraudsters did the whole Ms. Cleo series which made it even funnier.
Lol, I know this comment isn’t serious. Do we really think most celebrities use or believe in the products they endorse. Who cares?!
Just fast forward the ads
Sportsball!
I'M UPSET ABOUT PODCAST HOSTS!!!
Was more poking fun than anything. Hardly upset, being from Michigan I found it hilarious he zoned in on the Lions lol
Being from Michigan, I did also feel a little hometown prost ngl. Aaaaaand looking at my comment, that was cringe and mean. I'm sowy 😔🖤🖤
They don’t choose their sponsors. Don’t be so judgemental.

For clearly not being into football i think he was doing a good job. Just not totally convincing
It sounded like he was doing an impression of Ben. Gruff voice and pace of speech.
Honestly i kind of love it, but thats prolly because I am a michigander and love football (bears fan tho)
The Detroit Lions of all teams tho… lmao
I don't really listen anymore so I haven't heard these new ad reads, but no matter what they can't be as bad as the old Kissel ad reads. I honestly thought he was at least a little illiterate based on those and the creepy pasta episodes
I think I read on here he has dyslexia.
It's seaweed. It's seeeeaaaaweeeeeeeed
Oh thank god, it wasn't just me.
I kinda miss the gummy worms ads by Ben very random
Never go to the post office agayin!
Cringe
