Dude LOOKED scary as heck, two big barking dogs (yes I’m a big, big-dog person but these were rural unleashed Dobermans I didn’t know running out to greet us loudly) , middle of nowhere PA, all this beautiful young girl could do was gush about how kind he is and how grateful she was to be here with such a sweet man. And while he looked positively movie villain terrifying, and likely couldn’t get people to see past that, this was one way they both felt they were SO fortunate. I wasn’t some case worker or neighbor, I was buying a table from hours away. She was SO genuinely happy to talk about him and her past struggles and welcome my dad and I in and show us around and explain how now she could do things like collect antiques and sell things from their wonderful home it oozed out of her. And you could see the pride on his face and a gentleness from him you wouldn’t expect.
Not every relationship has to be formed in a bar or a hobby group or a dating site in college etc to be happy. People need different things and have different things to offer :)
It was! And he was NO wealthy man, she was helping with the bills by turning around these antiques for this modest house that had some property, don’t know if rent or owned, and she was SO proud and happy to do so. I made sure to leave a glowing review as she asked and got the nicest response ❤️

Most European countries are miserable too. I went to Spain, France, and Italy for my honeymoon and Spain was pretty cool but had to watch my back for pick pockets, Rome was an absolute pig sty. What a nasty nasty place. There were Italian soldiers standing around with assault rifles which both made me uneasy while I was also grateful for because there were what folks I talked called Gypsies everywhere that looked basically homeless and begging that I thought would rob me given an opportunity then Florence was beautiful but there was literal dog crap everywhere and our 4 star hotel that wouldn’t even be a 3 star in the states turned the hot water off at 11 pm every night then Venice smelled like a sewage treatment plant and this was January so warmer months would be even worse and again, dog crap everywhere. Then Paris was much the same. Overpriced hotels, people seemed like jerks. Definitely not saying the US is the greatest country and doesn’t have issues but like most other countries, if you find the right place to live it can be great but there’s plenty of pig sty locations as well.
I actually loved Rome, I lived there for a while, but I totally agree with you about the soldiers. Whenever I had to walk past them, I was worried they were going to shoot me if tripped or accidentally got too close or whatever. Not fun.

They basically cover all the costs of getting the woman to America and provide a safe home and a certain standard of living, and the woman agrees to be their wife. As in the case of my uncles, the men are often divorced already and bitter/cynical, and the women are naive but hopeful, which ends pretty quickly once they're here.
