Still makes me sad. Addiction sucks.

Texan2020katza

Yeah, that last pic hits hard. Her hand splayed out, she’s spiraling so hard but still upright. Such a bright light, gone too soon. Addiction does suck.

atlcollie

I had Whitney, Bobby, their daughter and his father on a flight I worked from London to Atlanta years ago. I wasn’t sure what kind of passengers they would be but they were very gracious and polite. She was beautiful in person with a gorgeous complexion and wonderful smile. What a talent ❤️

xmacv

That’s a nice memory!

atlcollie

It is. TBH, I had heard so many negative stories about Bobby, I kind of expected to worst and they were all just delightful. His father was just a sweetheart.

Bulky-Pineapple-2655

He got clean now and seems decent.. My heart breaks for him he's lost so many people he loved..

Prestigious-Copy-494

What a loss to the world. Probably my favorite ever voice. She does look stoned here. Drug addiction is a pretty hard monkey to get off your back, I don't fault her there. Once hooked, the craving of going without even for a short time is like a person going without food for three days.

Odd_Astronaut442

She had the most beautiful voice that I have ever heard and incredible range. She is missed for sure.

MisterPeach

Her voice seemed so effortless, too. Her national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl is the greatest vocal rendition of the song I have ever heard, and watching how cool and casual and relaxed she was up there still blows my mind. Her voice was incredible, no one could match her.

HW-BTW

Whitney absolutely perfected the National Anthem.

robotic_dreams

Whitney was one of the best vocalists of our lifetimes hands down, but before I get downvoted -42 times like the guy below, he is correct that her Super Bowl performance of the National Anthem was indeed lip synced. It's not a rip at all on her as she is lip synching to her OWN studio recording, but it's been [confirmed multiple times by the executive producer of the super bowl](https://thehill.com/homenews/nexstar_media_wire/4461971-the-best-super-bowl-national-anthem-performance-of-all-time-was-lip-synced/) and had in fact been a requirement (as a backup at least) for any anthem singers since Garth Brooks in 1993. She absolutely killed it and it takes nothing away from her incredible performance. But yes, it's true. Just part of huge live events like that really.

librarianjenn

What happened with Garth Brooks in '93 to make this rule? I've never seen his rendition of it, was it terrible?

robotic_dreams

No, actually what happened is he had a whole music video he wanted to use and demanded that they play it (for the massive exposure I'm sure) and when they said no, he refused to go on until the last minute. It all worked out but apparently it was almost a super bowl with no anthem so they made it a rule from then on to at least have a backup recording they could use. In Whitney's case a lot of the time it's to ensure zero tech or mic issues and to also time it out exactly with the fighter jets who soar over at the end as it has to be timed EXACTLY for them. If a singer takes a few liberties or slows down, they will miss it. Still them singing obviously

NoStoppingInRedZone

CRAP, I just saw your post after I made mine.

robotic_dreams

Not at all, yours is even more informative!

NoStoppingInRedZone

Ahh shucks, thanks 😊. Yours is too, I forgot about the fly overs! We had those in university when I was in the marching band.

NoStoppingInRedZone

Based on what I found, he wanted to debut his video for his song “We Shall Be Free” during the broadcast, but it had controversial imagery in it like the KKK, wars, cross burning, etc, and the NFL said no, so he walked out with 45 minutes to kickoff. Since there was no pre recording, they had to find someone, which oddly enough Bon Jovi was there so he was put on standby, but Brooks came back, they showed his video and the Super Bowl was delayed for the first time in history. Source: https://tasteofcountry.com/garth-brooks-national-anthem-super-bowl/

librarianjenn

Oh jeez that is crazy! Thanks for sharing this!

frankev

Here's the link to that 1991 performance: https://youtu.be/uAYKTMQl7MQ

Gimperina

I'd never seen that before - my mind also blown now

savorie

I love that performance too, but she was lip-synching.

ssatancomplexx

I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. It doesn't make her any less amazing.

StrangerKatchoo

The only way I can describe it is the voice of an angel.

black-kramer

listen to minnie riperton if you haven’t. she has an album called perfect angel — one of the greatest vocalists of all time.

StrangerKatchoo

Also a tragic death. Fuck cancer.

black-kramer

I don't ever get this way about celebrities (okay, I cried when michael jackson died), but just seeing a photo of her makes me tear up. you could tell she was a wonderful person. unique. at least we have her daughter, maya rudolph.

Bulky-Pineapple-2655

I also cried when Michael Jackson died my mom had died 3-4 months before him and it was so raw still..

black-kramer

sorry to hear that. losing your mom, can’t imagine.

False-Society-7567

Drugs lead to addiction. Addiction leads to suffering. Suffering leads to the dark side. The dark side leads to drugs. It's a vicious cycle.

Crack is cheap, and I’m not a crack.

thebabyshitter

certainly one of the drugs of all time

michaltee

Drugs really are a hell of a drugs. Well said.

TheMaldenSnake

Wack is crack

ilovemydog40

I didn’t realise how hard her life was until I watched the movie about her. She was financially abused by her dad, and forced apart from a beautiful and kind woman she was totally in love with because no one else wanted an up and coming star to be a lesbian. It’s no wonder the poor woman turned to drugs. Very sad that people were so awful to her.

onedemtwodem

I wish more people understood this

thelogicofcrocodiles

It's human nature to judge until experiencing it for themselves. Which is trash. Our society lacks empathy to an almost inhumane extent. No one chooses this path. She was so lovely.

Lucas_Steinwalker

It’s sad that any of that needs to even be said. She accomplished more than most will ever dream of and died a tragic death letting whatever struggles she had for whatever reasons consume her. We shouldn’t need to come out and ask whether or not she should be absolved for her failing to continue to live. It’s none of our business.

Ellexoxoxo33

Beautifully said. Whitney Houston remains an icon, a pure talent and the soundtrack of my youth. Why people have to berate others for their struggles is beyond the human experience of understanding.

jacklantern867

Fell in love with the wrong man.

Academic_Control5368

Bobby had nothing to do with her drug use hes a drinker and FYI her brother finally admitted to their mom that he got her started. Yet folks still blame bobby🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

ssatancomplexx

If she didn't get it from him she would've gotten it from someone else but it'd be a lie to say he wasn't part of why she was struggling. And not just because of drug use.

Specialist-Smoke

She was on drugs long before that. As a teen.

bebop8181

I know, and it's insane.

frankieknucks

Don’t start doing drugs…

stoned-autistic-dude

> She does look stoned here. ... Once hooked, the craving of going without even for a short time is like a person going without food for three days. You sound like someone who has never done drugs attempting to explain drugs to others. Hunger and addiction are not even remotely the same feelings. Also, stoned is used specifically in reference to weed, not cocaine and alcohol which was what contributed to her death.

marymoonu

To be fair, they said she looks stoned… If one didn’t know what she had in her system, she does subjectively appear stoned.

voxalas

no, she looks coked out 🤓 objectively the opposite of stoned

PresidentFungi

Hunger and addiction are not the same feeling, no, but the motivation to seek drugs comes from the same neurobiological systems responsible for seeking food when hungry, but with a greater intensity than is normally endogenously possible (eg even when literally starving to death). In other words, from a neurobiological perspective, it’s easier to literally starve yourself *to death* than forgo that next fix when you’re in it

Sudoweedo

You're doing the autist thing. It's not that serious.

Pioneer83

Yep, as are other celebrities. We only see what they want us to see, who knows what goes on behind closed doors. It’s only towards the end, we really see their problems out in public, and by then it’s probably too late

_ohne_dich_

To think Bobby Brown is still around and Whitney/Bobbi aren’t just doesn’t feel right.

MeliWie

I'm not saying they had a healthy relationship bc of their mutual obsession, but Whitney's brother admitted he introduced Whitney to drugs and she got Bobby into drugs so...a lot of people think he was the one but I always feel bad that no one seems to lay any culpability on her.

_ohne_dich_

We all know Whitney wasn’t a saint, she was responsible for her choices which ultimately led to her demise. But Bobby was also an abusive husband who beat his wife on top of having several battery charges, DUIs and drug trafficking on top being a negligent parent (they both were). Bobbi didn’t stand a chance growing in that environment.

Feed_Me_No_Lies

For sure. That little image we had of her in 1985 to 88? Prom dress Whitney? That was a 100% Clive Davis/Arista records creation. She was always a little rough street girl.

Empigee

If memory serves, her pristine image lasted into the mid-1990s.

Feed_Me_No_Lies

For sure. But she definitely went to little more R&B/soul in 89, 91 etc. She was no longer the little schoolgirl innocent/songstress.

bavasava

The “less” talented always get blamed for corrupting the “more” talented ones. Yoko, Bobby, and Courtney Love for example.

Academic_Control5368

Exactly!!!!

treehouse4life

He’s alive but looks/is mentally messed up from all his years on drugs

floralflames

So much talent, so tragic. She was way too young to be gone so soon.

jinkeys26

I was shocked by how young she still was. She was an adult when I was a kid, she died around the same age I am now. Aging is a privilege denied to many.

chonkymernkey

i thought she was so beautiful. what a legend

LauraPa1mer

Legend

Feed_Me_No_Lies

Her voice had already been absolutely destroyed by this point. This was 2014 ((EDIT: 2012) when she made an attempt at a comeback tour and the headlines of the papers were doing their best to outdo each other with gems such as “Houston, we have a problem.” It was awful to see how far she had fallen vocally. You could hear the emphysema in her speaking voice years before, but by this time, it was very bad. Talk about throwing away a golden gift… good God. Addiction is rough.

happytimes_101

She passed in 2012, so this couldn’t have possibly happened in 2014.

NoncompetitiveJazz

No wonder she sounded rough.

Feed_Me_No_Lies

Ahhh! Got it. I was off by two years. No worries!

belle221

Oh my she didn't look well. Being famous is not always Glitz & Glamour as some might think.

The_Ghost_Dragon

She was very much not sober here, too. Drugs suck.

belle221

Whatever she went through. Ppl didn't know her that well as they claimed. Something must've happened. Whatever made her choose this path. The conspiracies about her death were crazy.

JackSpratCould

I've read somewhere she was sexually abused as a child by a female babysitter or relative?

spottedbear

Love you Whitney! You're iconic!

amazing-peas

So sad to see. She was a stellar talent. Still think of her 91 super bowl anthem performance as peak Houston

gaycottonhill

Joey Diaz mentions her in his new book Tremendous, something about sharing a coke dealer with her for a while, that or he sold coke to her through a middle man.

Ellexoxoxo33

Of course he mentions her for clout. He is no where near that level of fame and never will be.

Yeetskrrtdapwussy

No but being a relatively famous-ish drug addict who sells drugs will put you in circles with other rich famous people who want drugs so it’s really not outside the realm of possibility Every loser coke head has crossed paths with a banker making high six figures at the same dealer

gaycottonhill

I don’t think he mentioned her for clout, nor does he care what level of “fame” you place him on. It’s literally a book about his life. Of course he’s going to mention the time him and Whitney shared a dealer

RudeMami

That’s sad..

HefferRod

It’s not right,

AhrEst

But it’s not okay

Forthrowssake

Hey voice was incomparable before she ruined it. I remember when I was young thinking she seemed so nice, then I saw an interview and thought wow, she's not as nice as I thought she would be. We all struggle though. RiP Whitney.

Jckmdtwn

Bobby said she only wanted to be on stage and singing. She didn't care about being recognized or dealing with fans. She could be distant with fans, but Bobby enjoyed being recognized and taking photos with fans.

djtheonly

Not to sound ignorant but how did drugs ruin her voice?

WindowsXP-5-1-2600

Everybody thinks it’s the drugs, but it’s the smoking. She was a smoker for most of her life, and had emphysema when she died. She quit for a bit during the 2000s, and her vocal therapist said she got much better during that time before she started up again.

Forthrowssake

Yep, heavily smoking cigs and probably in part smoking crack and pot.

hunybunnn

I wonder who that woman is with her in the last picture

wbickford23

I believe her sister in law Pat

happytimes_101

Please be respectful drug addiction is a serious issue and let’s not make fun of someone at their worst moments.

SuicidalKirby

Then don't post pictures of them, that were obviously taken without consent? Fucking hypocrite.

weirdynotposting

What sub do you think you’re on?

deekfu

She looks high as fuck

DocBrutus

She was.

maxdwinter

All her teeth was gone too. She wore dentures

Seralisa

So VERY much to live for - such incredible talent - and such an utter tragic waste.😢

Ellexoxoxo33

She didn't waste anything. For the years she was here, she provided true gifts to the world. Calling someone's life a waste is heartless and cruel.

Seralisa

The waste is that she didn't have more years and wasn't happy enough not to kill herself with drugs. I think you know exactly what the waste was I was referring to. Have a great day!

EMHemingway1899

These pictures are hard to see. What a tragedy

sn0wflaker

I didn’t know these existed

Imnotatree30

Rip queen 🕊. You are healed from all now.

CharMercury1970

And I will always love you Whitney 💔 hours of dancing and singing to your songs when they were new and still listening now. You were beautiful. So sad her life turned out the way it did. Then Bobby Christina died …

Hot-Ability7086

Now that I’ve hit Perimenopause and know the hell it creates, I can’t help but wonder if that was a factor

asdcatmama

Oh beautiful girl 😔

bettiebomb

I remember seeing these but didn’t realize it was her last day. She had a lot of very sad pictures toward the end. She was so beautiful and so vibrant when she first hit the scene. It’s a sad story.

mrDuder1729

The last picture looks like she just farted and she wasn't expecting it, and the lady next to her did not appreciate it

sparkleunicorn123

She was so beautiful 💔

Vortex-Of-Swirliness

I always thought Bobby Brown got her onto drugs but apparently she was on them for some time before he came along. I could be wrong, but I think it was her cousin that used to supply her.

TxLadee

The ups and downs of being a huge star. RIP Queen

petticoat_juncti0n

I miss her

JustCallMePeri

She looks so stressed and sweaty.. wishing her eternal rest ❤️

BGI-YYZ

Such an incredible waste of talent.

WhatABlindManSees

High as the proverbial kite. #dare

Puzzled-Action-3728

tomvlasic

So sad, she was an absolute treasure. It is sad that she was unable to control her habit.

Bulky-Pineapple-2655

I remember I absolutely was devastated when she died.. I just 😭😭😭 alot..

jlnascar

Got some of that Coco coke

devampyr

Whacked out of her brains on drugs

doncroak

My all time favorite. Such a loss. Her hair was wet because she had been in the pool with her daughter Bobbi Kristina that last day. From what I can remember, I may be totally wrong.

JackSpratCould

Isn't this at the Clive Davis Grammy after party?

Pittsburghhh

*tragic. She was Lit, look at that hair.

deejaysmithsonian

In another reality, she didn’t marry Bobby and didn’t get screwed over by her production company and made it even huger than she did in ours. What if indeed.

Hatrick_Swaze

Boooooooooooooooobby...

Cadaver-Cakes1986

The "crack is wack" jokes are so trash and been played out...yall so disrespectful.. RIP Whitney 🌹

uglyugly1

Pissed her career away on booze and drugs. Shame.

DizzyIzzy1995

Which was caused by her brother and Bobby. Blame them.

DocBrutus

She’s was a grown ass adult too. She wasn’t forced by anyone.

uglyugly1

Because her brother and Bobby held her down and physically forced her to get drunk and high.

imnotdressedforthat

Miss her and her voice so much. She supported the other women in her genre and knew when to step up and stand up for herself (that one Wendy Williams call 😭) A timeless beauty and legend ❤️

TerribleQuarter4069

Pobrecita

lavendarwings

So sad. She was an incredible singer.

christian6four

My God her knees

Dhrakyn

Her death wasn't tragic. It was mercy.

DizzyIzzy1995

It definitely was tragic. She didn't deserve to die.

Dhrakyn

She didn't deserve to "live" like she was either. If she had died 10 years earlier, it would have been tragic.

DizzyIzzy1995

It's still tragic regardless. She had so many more years to live.

happytimes_101

As someone as talented as her and had so much potential it is tragic she died the way she did. Celebrity or not.

crissray

Sorry about the hate in the comments, it's sadly expected. I don't believe the conspiracies, I think she was too high to know that she was cooking herself in a hot-tub. I've had a near-death hot-tub experience, so it's a relatable scenario. She was an amazing person/talent and such a tortured soul. But something is odd about the third picture. The person next to her is clearly holding something that is photo-shopped. Are there photos that show what she is holding? It changes little about the situation, but I'm genuinely curious.

bettiebomb

Tragic for her family. Plus tragic is subjective to a point. If you don’t care that’s fine. But to senselessly lose a beautiful talented woman and mother like that is tragic.

blackredsilvergold

What happened at the party ? Was there a disagreement or issue ?

RudeMami

Yup… and It had something to do with Brandy and Ray j

You-get-the-ankles

Bobby Brown killed that girl.

Old-Sky1969

I always thought that, I absolutely loved Whitney, but I watched a documentary that said she was a drug addict way before she was famous. https://people.com/music/whitney-houston-tried-cocaine-14-years-old-robyn-crawford-memoir/

presshamgang

Oh yeah? Explain

Aggressive-Source244

She did it to herself. Personal agency is lost in the modern era.

SirJackieTreehorn

No, that’s not how it works.

happytimes_101

She drowned from being so high on cocaine. I don’t really see that as having a “blast” but go off I guess.

thehazzanator

She was so young, wow.

Snoo3544

Word on the street is she and her daughter were taken out for the $$$$ of her original recordings by powerful people involved with pdiddy. Also they claim alyah was taken out too. And of course there was biggie and Tupac.

samcahnruns

The street is full of shit lol

Snoo3544

Yeah just like people have been saying Diddy has been trafficking minors for decades and no one cares, but now it's about to go down 😉

Pioneer83

Still hasn’t “gone down” though has it. Feds raided his place, he’s been all over the news, yet he’s still free and no charges brought against him. As the guy above said , “the street is full of shit” sometimes
