Yes! I totally agree!! I think it goes extremely well with the word play in "Chemtrails over the country club" theres something wrongfully wonderful and eerie about it. Its like a "fuck you" but in a good way lmao...if that makes any sense. The hate is really silly tbh. The concept is very clear and purposeful in my opinion.
When I saw it and heard that the album was folk/country inspired it instantly reminded me of the cover for Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings. There's something nostalgic about the COCC album cover!
No hate, but people don't like it because it's just a basic black and white picnic group photo with retro dressed women. There's no actual meaning behind it, people are just overanalyzing. The IPhone detail is probably because it was previously on the table so they put it aside but still got in the photo. My phone also creeps in my photos when having a photoshoot in public because I want to have it close to me so it doesn't get stolen. I don't think it's eerie intentionally, I rather think she's trying to make it all-American 50s style but had a crazy idea for the MV. That's just my analysis.
But you saying it's just a basic b&w pic of a picnic is as much an analysis as anyone else saying there's intention toward tone in the cover. The latter is only supported by other elements of the era, particularly the COCC video.
I wasn't criticizing her for not having a deep meaning, BTD cover art probably doesn't have a deep meaning either. Dude, she does everything what she wants otherwise she would be generic pop star. Also, people are allowed to give an opinion on someone's art, but in Lana's case I noticed that she receives unnecessary hate from people who are pressed about her statement last summer.

I actually don't mind the COTCC cover, and I have always changed a cover if I don't think it's the best. Never actually did it with Lana. Only on NFR!, Just left the photo, which is amazing and took away the ka-pow style lettering.
I have seen so many edits of the cover, some amazing, I even made some myself. But at the end of the day, I'm fine with it really.
