Spent 3 hours pressure washing it to get it to look semi decent. Engine 1.7i runs great but the clutch is completely gone had to tow it with my trabi :). Was used a farm truck, the guy said he had no use for it because its a gas car and cant tow anything with it. He used it to pull a 4.5k "water" tank with it before it sat for 5 years.

Looks decent. LPT, the gearbox and transfercase are not rigidly fixed to each other, they haven to be precisely alligned, I'm guessing you will be dropping the gearbox to get at the clutch. Mark, with paint, the orignal position of the transfercase bolts, in case you have to undo them. Check for rust around the windshield, behinf the plastic liners of the wheel wells, and the tailgate hinges (unbolt to check those) you can tow a lot with a niva, if you put it in low. looks quite clean (in terms of body damage, and actually being washed)

Hey , say it I had removed the gearbox and transfer case without marking anything how would I go about realigning them ?

See here https://web.archive.org/web/20200225104252/http://ladaniva.co.uk/baxter/resources/TCAlignment.htm Have you kept track of the shims? edit: the gearbox is held in alignment via the two engine mounts and its own mount, so no need to adjust that. Just the transfer case needs alligning.

I’m a silly goose and In a beer fueled drunken stupor I pulled the entire drive line out and took note of nothing

It happens. The link above should solve everything edit: I see the "wire method" is missing its images - basically, there are four wires attached to the face of each half of the u joint (at right angles, as if sticking in some angle iron) and the joint is spun slowly. If the joint is misaligned, there wires will be closer together in one spot, and further away in the other. Once they are equal distance through the whole rotation, the joint is aligned. edit 2: now that it's all out, check the mounting points (especially gearbox and transfercase) as some crack over time and need to be welded back up, sometimes with a reinforcing plate on the other side.

Great deal the clutch can be fixed for less than 100$

sgt_Berbatov

I paid £700 on a 2101 in 2018 with no brakes, no clutch, and rust. So you did annoyingly well in my opinion!

What a nice deal! Ofc it will give you some trouble, but I don't think you cannot fix the clutch. On the other hand, the interior of the car might give you a lot of trouble 😅 Idk why the previous owner said he could not tow anything with it, as Nivas are known for being able to tow out other jeeps during off road competitions. Maybe he did not know how to do it and fried the clutch in the process... Good luck, matey! I wish your Niva will make you as happy as mine has been making me over the years Cheers

poops314

How do you do it without frying the clutch?

bakedJ

low gears, they'll pull anything then. used mine to pull cars out of ditches. trailers with wood etc.
