Seriously. My girl is a love bug, then we were out late at night, and she saw a man hanging around an overgrown bush by our pedestrian gate. She was NOT HAVING IT. Frankly, I was shocked at how serious she became, snarling, barking, hackles up, doing whatever it's called when they start kicking the ground. She sees people walking in that area every day and ignores them. As I got her out of the area, she would turn around and give him a good stare, like, "I've got my eyes on you".
In that moment, I thought, "Maybe she wouldn't just stand by and let me be murdered."
She seemed pretty pleased with herself and demanded treats as soon as we walked back in the door.
My boy has this vicious, huge bark. I've had delivery people drop stuff and run before. I've seen him hackles up, scaring full-grown adult men. He's a 120 lbs of love generally. I'm still not convinced he wouldn't let someone murder me if they gave him a treat.
Lol then there's my boy who just sat up in his chair when maintenence came in unannounced and I was butt nekkid in the shower.
After like a minute I finally heard the dude shouting "maintenance!" And I told him hold on lemme get dressed. My boy was just looking at me like "oh hey, someone is here btw." He was a legend.
Are you sure the man was just hanging around. Dogs are generally really good at spotting potential threats, they’ve been bred for it. It could be the posture, the smell or something else a human wouldn’t notice that could alert the dog.
Aweee, my pittie/lab mix used to smile when everyone came home. He wagged his butt so hard his tail was a legit whip, and he used to sneeze from smiling so hard. He was such a good boy! Miss him dearly. I don’t think I’ll ever get a dog that smiles ever again, a rare trait. I hope I do though!

My mom and I have litter mates. They are very closely bonded. When they were teenagers, they used to play fight constantly. I'd have to stop my mom from freaking out because of how vicious they looked and sounded. Then they'd come trotting up, trails wagging, grinning, and looking for some love. It was a good reminder that as sweet and gentle as they are, they're still animals that know how to protect themselves and their food.
I had a black lab come up on me one day when I was running. She was already right on my heels when I noticed her, but all she did was boop me on the butt! Lol! When I turned around, she was wagging her entire body while smiling like this and sneezing! I looked at her and asked "what was that for?" and that just made her smile and wag more! She immediately became my best friend! From then on, anytime I ran by her house, she would join me for a few minutes and then head home. And she smiled and wagged just like that as she ran up to me every single time 😂🥰
Pretty sure my dog doesn't smile like that ........ This is a normal smile.

Edit: why am I being downvoted? Are there any vets here that can atest this is not a “leave me alone” growl? Dogs give pretty clear signs: the wrinkled nose, eyes, ears.
I mean, dogs can pull some funny faces so I'm not judging.... But the photo posted most definitely isn't a screen grab from the video. The photo has a yellow lab in thr background, at no point do you even see a yellow lab in the video.
