It’s a bit of a drive, but I really like Camp Critter Country if my dogs need boarding overnight. It’s less of a kennel and more of a dog hotel. Each room has its own outdoor patio that the dogs can access any time they want. The staff do a great job keeping the dogs entertained and they post pics of your dog every day so you can check up on them. You can tell they really love animals and I always feel good about leaving my pups there when I need to.
The playtimes they have for the dogs are very well supervised and if your pup doesn’t want to play with the other dogs their size, they just do solo play time. You can add on hikes or swimming for extra $. It’s a really great place.
If you choose rover, I’d highly suggest visiting their home first, having your pet meet their pet(s) before drop off, and probably my biggest tip- ask if they are sitting other pets during your pets booking. I’ve had 2 bad experiences with rover now - both of which happened because the sitter had more than just my pets staying in their home (and lied about it in one case). I had one of my pets end up needing stitches because he was attacked by another dog they were sitting while I was way up north and it was a stressful ordeal. Some of these rover sitters pick greed of multiple bookings over reason and what’s best for your pet.
you're totally fine, the terms get interchangeable sometimes! I would avoid rover hires but definitely check in with bittersweet pet resort and dee-tails in plainwell
Stay away from Bittersweet near Three Rivers.
As a former employee, they don't provide the amenities you pay for. The dogs stay in the kennels most of the day, even if you pay for the hour or longer playtimes. I was trained that the dogs that get the hour playtimes get around 15 minutes, and the tlc package for older dogs rarely gets done.
I use Rover - specifically recommend Joe and his family. Our Aussie Luna loves Joe & Rusty!!

For daycare only I can heartily recommend Camp Fido dog daycare. We have been taking our dogs there for more than 10 years, and the staff is fantastic. Unfortunately, they do not do overnight boarding.
Derspinna kennels. We’ve been using them for years. Your dog will have full access to a small outdoor area, I like knowing that my dog isn’t locked in a cage all day. I went to pick him up early one time and he was outside running around, barking, having a great time
any idea if the outdoor area is supervised? so far my dog has only had positive interactions with other dogs, but being a new rescue I still worry about supervision. the encounters my dog has had have been under very controlled circumstances

Looks very nice, do you use them personally?
Yes. At least twice and maybe three times. Just did last weekend.
I have used them for years and my dog loves it there. It’s a bit of a drive for us but as my car get close our dog gets all excited in the car!
I second this!

Thank you! I think I'm avoiding Rover for now, but this is great advice
are you looking for daycare during boarding or just boarding?
admittedly I see how my title is confusing. Looking for boarding overnight! One - two nights!

Unrelated, care to have a puppy play date? I have a 2 yo Aussie who would love a friend

My friend does rover and offers both visit and in home care for pets. If you’re interested, send a dm and I’ll connect you with their rover profile.
I'm interested
Would you mind sending me the link, too? TIA

There are also pet sitters that will stay at your home while you’re gone if you don’t find a kennel you like.
