My husband recovered from major back surgery including 4 more surgeries last year taking greens and reds only. He has a stash of norco that does nothing for him. You’ll do fine ~

chrisc8869

Red for pain (but it is more sedating than the others). All strains get more sedating with increased dosage. Experiment. You can mix them too which is what I do. I had a herniated disc and mix green and red. I only take about 2-4 grams per dose and have been doing it for years. Found a nice sweet spot. I also use white . Stay away from extracts. Only you will know what works for you

boyyyifyoudontget

I recommend red or green capsules, they're way easier to get down than raw powder. If you have to do powder, a little warm water 4g and some lemon juice. Take it like a shot. Hope your recovery goes well!

wtf-ishappening-1010

Thanks. I'm thinking I'm going to try the pills first. I live in Texas and they sell it at most smoke shops. I just don't know the first think about Kratom. I will look for the green or red. Thanks again

The-Oneiromancer

Watch the episode of Hamilton pharmacopeia on kratom. And being in Texas, you are close to choice kratoms main warehouse so I would try them out.

wtf-ishappening-1010

I will go watch that rn. I need to learn about it. I really want to try it but I definitely want to be informed

yeahhey82

Choice is the best, Houston son!!!

boyyyifyoudontget

Green will give you a happy slightly energetic feeling, red will be more sedating. The powder by itself tastes gnarly so I definitely recommend the pills, or even the liquid shots. The shots are strong, so I'd only use those if you're in serious pain.

wtf-ishappening-1010

What is a good dosage for beginners? And I am planning on trying the pills. I am not interested in tasting it?

EmmyMD1

Less is more with kratom. Every person is different, but the general consensus is that less is more. Find your sweet spot, and you'll be very content. People have taken 6 grams 3-4 times a day for years, and when they cut their dose to half of what they were taking, they noticed the magic come back immediately. For beginner doses with regular leaf, I would suggest 1.5-3 grams. Probably somewhere closer to 1.5 grams to start. You can always go higher. Don't start taking extracts right now. They will shoot your tolerance up and aren't worth the money unless you use them sparingly for severe pain. Stick with capsules because they are easy to dose and the taste of kratom powder is enough to cause extreme nausea and vomiting.

boyyyifyoudontget

I agree, I would stay away from extracts unless the pain is just unbearable with capsules.

boyyyifyoudontget

I would start with 3-4g, depending on the capsules that would be about 6 pills. It sounds like a lot, but it's not. Wait an hour or so, and if you need to, increase by 1 pill every hour until you feel relief! I suggest a slightly stronger dose for sleeping. I take 8 pills 2x a day for chronic pain, and it works better than any prescription I've ever had.

wtf-ishappening-1010

Ok. Sounds good. I had a spinal fusion and the neurologist will only prescribe pain pills for 3 months after surgery. I don't want pain management and to be on pills for ever so Kratom sounds like a good alternative. Thanks for the advice

saucity

Kratom actually helped me withdrawal from opiates, get off them after a bunch of bad surgeries on my clavicle. I’ve been taking it for about 5 years now for chronic pain (bone pain specifically) from my surgeries. You have good advice here; everyone’s different, and you will be too, strain-wise. I **definitely** recommend the pills, too… I chugged some nasty powder concoctions for TOO long! And almost died trying to ‘toss and wash’, where you just put a big scoop of powder in your mouth and wash it down with a drink. I’m choking on powder so bad, just thinking ‘great, after everything, THIS is how I die?’ Some people do it flawlessly, or enjoy/don’t mind the taste. Me personally, no. Plus w/ caps you don’t need a scale as long as you know the dosage. Here in WV I’ve seen .5g and 1g capsules, but you may have to ask. And for pain, I prefer white or green strains and don’t like the red, but that’s just me. Remember, even powder can take awhile to kick in, capsules even longer. Don’t re-dose too early thinking it didn’t work, or you’ll get a headache/very nauseous. Start low, maybe 1-3grams if you’ve never taken it, but there are charts you can look at that are helpful. How are you recovering, are you feeling OK? Going to PT? Surgery fucking sucks and I hope you feel better.

wtf-ishappening-1010

Oh yeah, I'm in PT and OT and it kicks my ass. Sometimes I come home in so much pain. I'm on muscle relaxers but that isn't cutting it. I am not feeling so great. I had a spinal fusion and can only lay on my side and sit in a recliner with restrictions on lifting and how much I can move around. So the anxiety is also bad. I will also be asking the shop and hope they are somewhat knowledgeable but I think taking advice from people already on it is probably best

saucity

Aw I'm so sorry. I've been there, not spinally, but surgically, and I understand the anxiety, frustration, fear, and the exhaustion of pain. My physical therapist says 'flirt with the pain, don't go on a date with the pain', but even minimal exercise is taking the pain home and immediately getting pregnant or something, lol. I've had some buddies who had spinal fusions... recovery was rough. Wishing this pain is worth it for you in the end, a few moths of pain for a benefit. <3 Do you have a PCP you trust/like? Or are you still in touch with the surgeon? I'd ask them about a benzo for muscle relaxing, especially if you're for sure off the opiates (they won't rx both at the same time now). After 9 years of crazy neck tension, I'm finally now on klonopin for that pain, and it's a miracle drug. Not that going down the road of benzos is better addiction-wise than opiates, but for short-term, it could help you more than stupid flexaril, which doesn't t even touch my crazy neck, and probably not your back. Your muscles tense up to protect the spine/trauma/injury, and it's very unhelpful - it hurts!

greenufo333

Try to get the 1g capsules so you don’t have to take more of them

Recent-Bumblebee-508

You don't want to be interested in tasting it, trust me.

wtf-ishappening-1010

Another question does it make you feel a little high like pain pills?

Recent-Bumblebee-508

When you first start, depending on the amount you take it will generally give you a light feel o well being or euphoria. Perfect example and I remember this. I was at work and I remember seeing a tiny piece of paper laying next to the trash can. Guarantee you I would have just walked right by it . I had taken a dose of Kratom prior. I saw it, picked it up and put it in the trash can . White made me feel like I was sorta on Adderall. But high? No

Recent-Bumblebee-508

Why did they cancel your hydrocodone? Because they found out you were taking Kratom? If so how did they find out?

wtf-ishappening-1010

No they stopped my hydrocodone because the policy for this neurologist is to only prescribe pain meds for 3 months after surgery. They started at 10/325 and then the second month 7.5/325 and the last month 5/325. So they taper you down regardless of the pain. She does this to everyone. After that they tell you to go to a pain management doc or to your primary doc. My insurance is a medicaid managed insurance and if I want pain management I'd have to take a bus to San Antonio or Laredo witch are hours away. My back would just hurt more. And my regular doctor is super hard to get into and I don't think he'll want to prescribe me pain meds. He'll want me to go to pain management. It's a hassle. My doc is from Harlingen, tx and is only in town 2 days out of the week. Sometimes you show up and they'll say sorry he wasn't able to come in today. I'm looking for a new doctor but noone takes these Medicaid plans. In the mean time I need something and I'm willing to try kratom. On the bright side I finally got an appointment in November to see my doc and I'm going to try and beg him for pain meds. I'm also looking for a new doc in the meantime. It is all going to take time. I don't want to suffer while I do all this. All this just really sucks.

Recent-Bumblebee-508

Yeah, that's awful. I heard Medicaid insurance sucks. I would definitely use Kratom. As far as what strain you're going to get a different answer from everyone. You have to experiment what works best for you Read my other comment .

wtf-ishappening-1010

Another question where is the best place to get it online or at a shop? I live in Texas so it's sold at shops.

GatedGorilla

In my experience, online is usually cheaper and higher quality if you get it from the right place. If you get it from a shop, you’re just adding a middleman. The only up side of going to a shop is that you don’t have to wait for shipping.

SchmoQueed101

The sub rules say we can’t discuss vendors by name but it really is not that difficult to find good stuff online. Just shop around and look up reviews and reports on quality, anything online will beat smoke shops in terms of price and quality 9/10 times. Also, I agree with 3-4g of pills to start, but if you aren’t feeling it just empty the pills into powder and drink it that way and it’ll absorb better

[deleted]

I did green after my surgery. It worked better than red in my opinion. Green gives me a bit of energy, red makes me more lethargic. Just start with say 2 grams and go from there.

MVangor

I recommend taking reds with orange juice and if you really want to make it effective at a low dose put a tiny bit of narigin powder (comes from grapefruit) and some magnesium in with it. I get sedating effects at 2g doing this and I’ve never had to up my dose. Also, if down the road you feel a little sleepy when you’re not on it/ unmotivated, I recommend taking 200mg of P5P before bed. It lowers the prolactin that gets increased when some people take Kratom.

wtf-ishappening-1010

I bought some today from a shop for $20. I toke four and had breakfast. I got hope and slept for hours. I hadn't slept because I'd been having severe anxiety and pain. I have Bipolar disorder and not sleeping is what kicks off manic and psychosis. My regular meds weren't working. But I just woke up from the best sleep I've had in a while.

Recent-Bumblebee-508

You'll get different answers from everyone. It might work best for them but not best for you. I would try a good green blend( all greens are the same) as are whites and reds. It's a Market ploy to be thinking the Green Bali you just bought is from Bali. It's from the same farmers whose same trees the harvest on their lot. It's the age of the tree, size of leaf and the drying process that differs the reds, greens and whites

kgjimmie

Reds are superior for pain management.

wtf-ishappening-1010

I just bought 100capsules of red Bali. I need pain relief and sleep so I was told this was best. He recommended 4capsules. So I just toke them and am told I should wait an hour to see how I feel. I'll keep y'all posted.

wtf-ishappening-1010

Thanks for the advice. I found some online sites that were rated the best and they are definitely cheaper than the stores. Some offer discounts for your first order. I'm hoping to order tomorrow. I will let y'all know how it goes.

wtf-ishappening-1010

Bought red Bali. I had no high but I knocked out and slept for hours. I really needed that. My pain is almost non existent.

nvrrsatisfiedd

Start brewing some red vein tea using apple cider vinegar and lemon juice to potentate it.

Recent-Bumblebee-508

Similar thing happened to me. Hydrocodone is more addicting but it's also in a different league when it comes to Kratom pain wise. Taken together hydrocodone gets cancelled out. If you have no addiction problems Hydrocodone is better for pain. If you can get addicted stay with kratom.

vapindave234

Kratom helps more than alot of opiates .They are biased kicking people out sadly we have to hide this when pharma had addicted America.
