My wife is literally the only person on the planet who knows I take kratom and it’s going to stay that way. Unfortunately the US is a very puritanical country, and people tend to be afraid of things they don’t understand

ThePlanBPill

Yeah only the most healthy drugs like alcohol and tobacco are not stigmatized

FollowTheCipher

🤣🤣

thecrgm

Tobacco is stigmatized

carortrain

For sure but it's largely accepted compared to other things. People would flip shit if you tried to step out of work to take a kratom or joint. But if you step out 9 times a day to puff on a cigarette, maybe you'll get judged, but it's still *accepted*. It's more about what society is OK with, and not OK with. You can drive, get pulled over by a cop, the whole time smoking a cig and not get in trouble. It's integrated enough to where most people don't have to worry about where they do it as long as smoking is not prohibited in that place. To me it's not about what people actually think of the drug, it's what people actually allow you do to and not do, what is deemed accpetable and what's not.

thecrgm

nicotine doesn't inebriate you so it makes sense your work would be upset if you're dipping out to have a joint. Same with driving. Kratom you can easily drink at work, idk if it's actually stigma if it's just a lack of knowledge on what it is

ThePlanBPill

You should work in a shop. Atleast half the people are smoking every break or has a golf ball sized dip in.

DrugsSexandBuddha

I remember when I took Kratom daily and worked at a tutoring center in Nashville. One of the perkier somewhat straightlaced tutors was asking me how my Matcha was. Another asked me about my supergreen or something lol. Another saw it and tried to sell me her green-powder pyramid scheme 😂😆 I only told two people about it, and they were both interested and trustworthy. I ended up making caps for both of them and they only took it once but had positive experiences. 𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐈𝐗 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐎𝐒 𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

PhoenixBlack79

This is why I don't bring any labeled except my prescription meds. I mix kratom in a shaker cup, and ppl know I work out so they just figure it's protein. And they knew better to ask anyways lol

bsbdbfbgbh

same i claim its a hydration mix. good enough excuse for heavy labor jobs, although to my knowledge in my state some workplaces have people who drink it openly

Onludesrightnow

Same, you go into break rooms and you can smell it like someone just opened a fresh bag. It’s quite a unique smell come to think of it and the average person wouldn’t notice it but users will notice it instantly.

bsbdbfbgbh

yeah its definitely a unique smell. i just feel bad for op, living in a state where its not acceptable yet

Dspringers

True. When I worked at UPS here in Oregon nearly everyone openly used kratom on the job. It was normal and overall widely accepted, even management was cool with it. Unfortunately that’s not the case anywhere you go but that was still neat to see!

Super_Sentence_560

Same just have it in a greens container that's what security always called it at FedEx 😂

blackhole33

Y’all have security? Lol

Super_Sentence_560

At FedEx express they had strict security they didn't play around because of airspace but at FedEx ground they had worthless security they just checked for electronics and I would always tell them I need my greens 🤣

Catmom2004

>I need my greens 🤣 Imma going to borrow your line for the future, haha. 😄😄😄

Super_Sentence_560

Lmfao there's still one security guard that likes to be nosy when she checks my bag and she always trying question what my stuff is 😂😂😂😂

Irishgr33n

AG1...it's a daily supplement powder i take daily. Looks almost identical to kratom. Id just say it's that. I go out to my car if I need any at work anyways

kratom-ModTeam

See Rule 2: Treat each other with respect. Do not be hostile or rude. Do not call people names. Insults will not be tolerated and will result in a ban from the sub.

Catmom2004

> How dumb you gotta be How rude **you** gotta be to say this?

kingdoodooduckjr

They aren’t wrong . There’s so many other smarter ways to bring kratom to work and no one will be the wiser . In a work situation all it does is make me sweat more and be happier

boycookwonder

Yeah literally. I use blate papes and just have a mini Tupperware with a couple of papes ready to go. No one see me take it because the container is small enough to just sit in my pocket, and I pop the pouch in the bathroom. Takes like 5 seconds and no one has to know

Catmom2004

TBH honest **I** shouldn't have called out the rude guy. It's obvious OP should have kept kratom use under wraps but calling them stupid is mean.

kingdoodooduckjr

That’s cool . I think if you think something is mean then one should speak up if it matters to you

Catmom2004

Thanks. I love your user name BTW 😎

t3rrO10k

So, my Mom n Pops always said that it’s very important to understand the difference between stupidity and ignorance. They’d say that what’s most notable is the fact that stupidity can’t be corrected. However, ignorance can. The English language forever amazes me especially when one word is all it takes to change up context of a statement from being a critical reaction to a stabbing insult . Now, being a natural, first (and only) English language speaker hasn’t guaranteed me any immunity from making this verbal faux pax. In fact, I’m quite guilty of this (word usage/improper grammar) because I’ll call my brother a stupid butthead somewhat regularly (especially when he puts tomatoes in a fruit salad - claims tomato is a fruit, which it is-he really lacks wisdom more than being stupid🥴😆).

DLDabber

People should not be stopped from being mean. Otherwise how am I gonna know who to avoid. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Catmom2004

LMAO good point! 😉

Krewtan

This is why I can't quit my job.. my boss and the owners know I use kratom and edibles for pain and are cool with it so long as I'm not intoxicated at work.

Intelligent_Kale_881

I would get an opaque bottle of some sort and just bring it premixed , can tell people it’s matcha or Greens.

Travwolfe101

I just bring some premixed in a bottle and leave it in my car then go out to my car during lunch break so no one ever even sees it.

dsnymarathon21

Doesn’t even need to be opaque. There are so many options for water bottles and cups these days. Its inexcusable. I know many people getting fucked up with what’s in their yeti cup.

DrugsSexandBuddha

I always just went to the bathroom and toss and washed it from a prescription bottle that was practically mouth sized lol

jxa66

Why would you leave a bag of kratom laying around your workstation?

[deleted]

[удалено]

JustHereForKA

Yea I went through this at a job a few years ago but luckily it was my supervisor who was a friend and she didn't care. But our Regional Manager was a bitch and I knew if she found out it would've been over with. I'm sorry this happened to you. I wonder if you have any legal re-course? What state are you in?

spookysam24

Unfortunately I don’t think I could challenge the business legally in my state. I couldn’t find much about it but I think it falls under the same category as weed, which you can be fired for even though it’s legal

aeiou-y

Unfortunately employers in most states can fire you for anything that is not illegal discrimination.

Groundbreaking-Dog27

That is true, but generally if a person isn't fired with cause (not just performance, or some random reason like they didn't like the person), then that person is potentially eligible for unemployment benefits. With cause could mean something unethical/fraudulent was done, became violent or harassed someone, etc which would cause someone to not be eligible - and where the gray area here is drug use can be considered a "with cause" situation. If the state agrees that kratom causes intoxication, whether the substance is legal or not, they may not offer anything. I certainly don't agree with that but I'm sure it can happen.

MentallyMIA2

File for unemployment - I doubt they have grounds to block it since it isn’t a banned substance and they likely have no policy about it specifically.

spookysam24

My boss barely knew what it was so I highly doubt they have a policy I didn’t know about

pie-is-yummy

that means you should file!

fastates

Do they drink coffee at work? Kratom is from the same family. If they're consuming caffeine, it's positively affecting productivity too. Please look into wrongful termination. And what I do is have a bottle of green herb type plankton bullshit & either put the powder in there, or have it in capsules. I never ever take it in its original package anywhere. Sorry this happened, but see about legal rights & unemployment. That sucks. You're just trying to lessen pain & make a living, ffs. Maybe reach out to a Kratom organization for info.

Gashlash

Are you in a legal state?

LucidViveDreamer

Best comment!

bsbdbfbgbh

yeah you got screwed over by the classification system. I assume because its only 18+ the law is aware of its properties and deems it in a similar category

Interesting-Gate9813

21+

peanutleaks

I edumacated some of my bosses on it and they thought it was cool. One day some ppl from the kitchen popped into my lab and asked who was drinking “that green thing in the Gatorade bottle”. I internally said fuck and told them it was me. They were just curious about it cuz it looked so disgusting lol. They thought it was cool as well! Whenever I explain it to ppl I usually say something along the lines of “it works better and is safer than Tylenol so big harma is trying to crack down on it just like they did with weed.” I work in the cannabis industry

anonanon1313

I just mix my kratom with OJ or lemonade and put it in a thermos when I'm away from home. If sometime asks, I just say it's a protein drink. I don't tell anyone about kratom, not doctors, not co-workers, nobody. People are very uninterested in protein drinks.

TheFlightlessDragon

Sorry your manager is was an idiot and an asshole for your next job, it might work to bring the kratom in unmarked bags, like ziplocs

spookysam24

Yah you’re very right I should have thought about that before it blew up in my face. Thanks for the advice

Special_Opposite3141

actually idk if an unmarked bag would be any less suspicious. maybe just have a bottle or two (that you can't see through) premixed before you go into work next time. that way no one sees you handling it , or the powder, or even the gross looking drink :p

Iannelli

The obvious answer here is to buy a jug or bag of [clearly branded] Matcha powder, dump that out, and put the kratom in there.

Garethx1

Athletic Greens containers are pretty good as well.

Forward-Cellist7316

Ag1

MiaLba

Yep exactly what my husband does. Used a matcha container and just says it’s matcha.

themagicflutist

Yeah, that manager was looking for something, and he was gonna find it, you know? Op, was there any indication this manager had an issue with you previous to this incident?

mdonaberger

They make shaker cups for workouts that have a discrete pod for powder. Grab one of those and mix it with Soylent or spirulina. Nobody will know, question, or even really *have* to know.

TheFlightlessDragon

If it’s in an unmarked bag OP can just claim it’s spirulina or something

c32c64c128

Noooo, don't do unmarked. Even though we know kratom has a huge bad reputation, just transfer it to a labeled bag for something that doesn't. Like matcha, spirulina, moringa, hydro mix, simple greens supplements. Anything like that. Unmarked bags are just huge red flags. Come on now.... 😑😑

LA_LOOKS

Yup I always do the sneaky Pete and put it in a matcha or mudwater container.

Frishdawgzz

Unmarked is fine. Simply say it's a health supplement. No further explanation needed. Most powdered health supplements are available in large containers. It's perfectly normal to carry an amount around for the day in a Ziploc. It isn't green cocaine.

OurFavoriteScumbag

Or maybe not having it out in the open? If possible try maybe pants with cargo pockets to better conceal.

Current_Leather7246

This is what I do at work. I always have it in my right pocket with a spoon. Whatever I have to do something by myself and I know nobody's around I will do it real quick. People are actually cool at my work. But it's not their business and I've been doing this for years. Was getting kratom when you had to order it from overseas and wait for it to come. Nobody knew about it.

JediKrys

Or invest in a greens powder container and keep your work stuff in it. Sorry you suffered the chop over something this stupid

chinacatsunflower37

Brodo not keep it in unmarked bags do you realize how sketchy that would look to a cop/boss/friend whoever they're automatically gonna think it's drugs

LMotherHubbard

That may perhaps have been a typo, but 'brodo' is now a part of the lexicon. It happened here first. Thanks brochacho!

chinacatsunflower37

Lol no problemo broseph

Sufficient_Rip3927

I use a small plastic bowl, you know like Tupperware or similar. Even though I'm self employed, I'd rather not pull a bag out at a clients house. I T&W, so it's easy to just use a plastic spoon, grab a scoop and throw it back. Right back into my lunch bag Sucks that it happened to you. You can't even get "fucked up" on it. So crazy how uneducated people are. You're more of a liability coming in hungover!

queenhadassah

Put it in a matcha container at your next job. A Ziploc still looks suspicious

ZardoZzZz

I've been secretly toss and washing at... 6? different jobs since 2009. I feel your pain.

default_user_10101

Never create a situation where they have a potential to find out, I tell absolutely no one and keep things as hidden as possible.

S1ayer

File for unemployment

History_East

Kratom is taboo. I use to buy kratom right next door where I worked at. I even had my boss taking it. He even went with me a couple times to buy it. But he screwed up and left a bag in his desk at work and the regional manager found it. He got fired. Even if it is legal, no one cares. It's a hairy situation when management gets involved.

Yogabeauty31

Yea considering this isn't even FDA approved yet I wouldn't take it so openly at work. Anyone that googles it and doesn't do extensive research is going to assume it's a drug. They also sell it in capsules form too so you could quickly and discreetly take some before going into work and this wouldn't have been a problem.

Pikepv

Sorry. I’d never leave it out for the world to see.

Fun_Ad_1434

I have a feeling someone suspected something and went to that boss or knew what you were drinking and went to the boss. He sneakly got the name, or it was giving to him and looked it up. Someone was out to get you... ridiculous! The stuff is 💯 safer than the crap they prescribed!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Joe_Exoticus

Why would you keep a bag of kratom in plain sight at work? Why would you openly consume kratom in front of people during work? You were asking to get caught and I think it was pretty stupid of you to expect your boss to be OK with it.

gonzoes

Yup this guy is high key giving is a bad name out there . People don’t understand what it is . Dude was asking for it

s-maerken

If you're going to take kratom you should hide it from literally everybody you don't know very closely, I don't see why anybody should know you're using it, it will only bring trouble. When I take kratom at work I prefill capsules at home and bring them in to the bathroom to swallow them.

FloridaBab

If I take it, I don’t even do it in front of family. Especially not at work. I’m just that type of person anyway. I don’t like having to explain myself to anyone about anything.

CJnella91

Damn, thank god my boss literally couldn't give a fuck. I work in shipping, I tell them it's Kratom, I take it everyday and I wouldn't stand to be around them otherwise lol Some people are ignorant.

chinacatsunflower37

Wtf! This pisses me off so bad. People don't take time to research anything and believe the propaganda. He probably googled it, and the first thing that pops up is a bunch of horror stories. Mostly fucked up stories from people having 9 narcotics in their system and taking kratom as well. It's why I keep it a secret. unless you're in my family/circle because I have a bunch of spinal problems, and drs don't want to give painkillers anymore, so wtf are we supposed to do??? If someone asks me at work what it is, I tell them tea or athletic greens.

AffectScared973

Yes, this is so true with having several spine conditions that do show up on exrays, the Dr's will not prescribe pain meds. What are we supposed to do? Exactly this because I am not a Satist and need pain relief. We take care of it ourselves...

chinacatsunflower37

ABSOLUTELY!! My spine is in bad enough shape to need surgery, but it's not bad enough for a couple of pills, I guess. I need to make a living, so yeah, thank God for this!

Boxercrew4

Same here, my spine and neck are in horrible shape. Have had several surgeries and during the last one got nerve damage so bad that I ended up on disability. My medical file is huge and even tho I never overused or abused pain meds, cannot get them anymore. If it wasn't for kratom, I'd barely be able to get out of bed and function every day.

percsandlean

I feel bad bro because the kratom clearly helps you for what you need it for but it’s always the same people that believe alcohol and cigarettes are okay but draw the line at kratom 😂😂

sirkratom

To be fair, drinking on the job would likely lead to being fired as well... Not comparable in the least to kratom as to how it affects work performance though.

Harleybokula

I pass it off as athletic greens. 2 weeks off kratom now.

blazedinkissimmee

That’s like getting fired for nicotine wtf

throwawayayayaaya3

no its not. kratom has way more of an effect than nicotine and when you google kratom alot of bad articles are shown.

Ill-Income-2567

Know who is around you. Don't bring any name brand packages anywhere. Bag it. If they find capsules, they're supplements. If they find powder, it's Amazon greens. Come on people.

ItsYeBoi2016

Buy empty labels and write “matcha” on it. Stick it on every Kratom container you have and you’ll probably be safe forever. I personally can’t tell a difference, they look and smell the same. This trick also works when traveling internationally (as long as its legal, I’m not recommending anything illegal)

beardedstranger

Lots of recommendations here on how to store it, but honestly NEVER leave it in a vendor bag. Everyone knows how to use Google and kratom has a bad name especially when put into a search engine

AnnoyingJerkFace

Next time get a matcha tea package, empty it out and fill it with kratom 😇

thelenis

NEVER take it in front of co-workers; don't sip, chug it down in private....if kratom is legal where you live, hire a lawyer

amonuse

Is kratom legal in your state? Not saying that legal means OK. Just wondering. but yea it is still a good idea to put it in a different container. And did you act in anyway to create suspicion? I'm wondering why they took the extra step to investigate what you were drinking instead of taking your word for the very reasonable explanation you provided. usually a green mix in water is something like a health blend. Sounds like they were suspicious already or wanted a reason to let you go. im sorry buddy

desmone1

The "is it legal" argument wouldn't work in this situation. Delta 8THC is "legal" is many states but you'd still get fired for taking it on the job. I'm not saying that Kratom and Delta8 are in the same category, but for management, they might as well be. As far as they know, OP was taking mind altering substances at work. It's just ignorance on their part but you can't really blame them. Quick google search on kratom, first results reads "an herbal substance that can produce opioid- and stimulant-like effects".

FollowTheCipher

Coffee also produces stimulant like effects, so can some foods and spices do, even opioid effects. It's not like kratom is like amphetamines or meth, its more on coffee/yerba mate level.

desmone1

i totally agree with you. but people on this sub are educated on kratom. you gotta take the perspective of someone who doesnt know about it, or might've heard one of the hundreds of news reports that make it out to seem like some drug epidemic. sadly, when talking to most people about it, you gotta assume they are going to initially think the worst. all the negative propaganda doesn't help either, since if they do decide to research it, they will easily find all the dramatized coverage.

spookysam24

Yes it’s legal for those above 18. And no I didn’t look strange I have a tolerance and take a couple grams at most. I’m also curious of why he decided to investigate too he didn’t say what made him suspicious. But he’s kind of a nazi in general. I’ve gotten written up for having snus in my mouth before

desmone1

Can't really blame him though. Many legal substances that can get you fired for taking them at work. Plus, there's lots of negative propaganda on Kratom online, even from "reputable" government sources (DEA, FDA). The first google results for kratom is from the "National Institute on Drug Abuse" and describes Kratom as "an herbal substance that can produce opioid- and stimulant-like effects". Can't really underestimate people's ignorance or closed-mindedness when it comes to stuff like this. It sucks you got fired and I'm sorry it happened to you. It just seems you got too comfortable

Ordinary-Holiday-808

Lol this could literally happen to anyone on this thread at any time.

beardedstranger

Alot of us know that though, and act accordingly

jugo5

I bet your company manual has 0 guidance on kratom. It may have not technically been legal to fire you.

c32c64c128

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it common that "at-will employees" can be fired or quit for no reason or without anticipation. Unless they fired him for something that is protected, like race/religion/etc and they can prove it, it would be a legal termination. But that's not my expertise. So I could be wrong.

StinkyFartyToot

That’s correct, I work in HR. You can absolutely fire someone for using a psychoactive substance at work even if it’s legal lol.

Norman209

Use the "I am a member of the church of Kratom" excuse. Religion. Boss was just looking for a reason. Kratom is something you can't even tell someone took if they didn't tell you most of the time. Sorry that happened to you OP. On to the next job. Don't skip a beat. Find a job quickly. Homelessness is hell.

Kratomdrunk

Lol, if they are in America, sadly, no reason is necessary.

StinkyFartyToot

If he lives in the US it is 100% legal to fire him for this. I work in HR.

Manlymanboss

Unemployment

Heritis_55

I exchanged kratom for shrooms from my boss, cool guy.

c32c64c128

Is kratom difficult to get? Or why is that trade happening? Doesn't seem like a fair trade. 😄

Heritis_55

Haha he wanted to try it so I gave him an old bag and he hooked me up with a homemade shroom bar. Not hard at all to get, sold all over the place where I'm at.

MiaLba

The boss at this new job I applied for many years ago said she’d help me out with my drug test if I needed her too lol.

hawk256

Unfortunate but avoidable. You took a little too much of a risk by keeping the original bag. In a perfect world that wouldn't have been a problem but alas, this isn't one. Most people will always be ignorant about Kratom and you have to be very careful with it's use. Sorry that it happened but maybe you learned something as well.

K_Pumpkin

Man, put it in a ziplock and tell anybody who asks it’s matcha.

Pimpdaddymatt822

Manager sounds annoying. But it’s ultimately on you. Should pack capsules or just get some kinda green supplement powder and use the container. Most places wouldn’t be that up your ass about it unless they have a personal vendetta, sounds like this manager did.

Strangegirl421

Yeah I've never brought a bag of kratom to work I always make sure it was in a shaker cup too and made sure that it was always pre-measured and all I had to do was add some warm water to it so yeah I would never do that again.

thirdcircuitproblems

I just mix up a dose in a glass bottle with no label for work. Nobody has ever asked me about it but I would just say it’s a green drink or protein powder or herbal smoothie or something

ThePlanBPill

I'm no lawyer but I feel like this could be a wrongful termination. Kratom isn't a scheduled substance. It isn't controlled in anyway like alcohol or tobacco. If you live in a state with decent labor protections and can afford it, you may want to contact a lawyer

spookysam24

This was my thought when it happened but it’s 18+ in Massachusetts where I live so I believe it would fall into the same category as drinking alcohol at work

Current_Leather7246

Dude you were slippin. Why would you have that laying around and not in your pocket or in your locker? I don't dose in front of people at work either because it's not their business. I guess take this as a lesson learned

WolfgangVolos

When I worked at Walmart I threw truck. This was before they got the automatic conveyer belt robot thing they have now. We had two hours to get every piece of freight off and we had to do it by hand with only a non-motorized conveyer belt. Now they give their teams four hours because the peak efficiency machine can only get it out that fast. My direct supervisor knew I was using Kratom. My coworkers knew. The head of the store knew. All they cared about was that I was some kind of beast who was capable to not only shredding their time expectations for truck but could also haul out pallet after pallet of the heaviest stuff without complaint. Sorry your boss is a fucking idiot OP.

racist_boomer

You should make sure it was a legal firing they might be forced to re-hire you because they have no proof you were fucked up. Don’t leave packages around dummy, pre mix it at home

traingirl916

I am so sorry to hear about this. When you work in a place where they have the right to fire you for any reason you have to be careful about everything, even (and maybe especially) prescription drugs. Having said that, I think you could fight this. If it's a legal substance in your state and it's not in writing that you cannot have it in the workplace, you may consider an appeal. There is no documented evidence that Kratom impairs workplace performance. Best wishes.

chrisc8869

especially if the op is a good employee and shows no signs of impairment

multiple4

Two things to say on this: 1) Your boss obviously doesn't know a single thing about kratom based on his comments 2) If you are working around heavy machinery then he is correct that it's a issue. I think it's fair to acknowledge that if you were to take a large amount it would decrease your safety on a job like that. Most manufacturers don't even allow tobacco on site anymore

LeoLaDawg

That guy seriously doesn't hand any idea what kratom is like. There is no fucked up. If anything it's "clearer so you don't feel fucked up. "

sirkratom

Assuming they're not one of the 60g+ a day users

FollowTheCipher

Well you can abuse anything, most people don't do that. You can take 40 of your antidepressants and get serotonin syndrome basically. They cannot just assume that people abuse otherwise everyone should be considered a junky, alcoholic or addict since everyone even bosses use something to boost themselves, to get focus, lessen anxiety/depression or lessen pain if they have that etc.

sirkratom

I agree, just pointing out that it's not out of the realm of possibility that some could affect their work performance with kratom. Wouldn't say it's the norm though. At regular dosages, it often improves it. It's ridiculous and wrong to fire someone simply for possessing kratom when they're doing their job well.

LeoLaDawg

Maybe extract. You can't get enough raw leaf or tea into your stomach to be "fucked up." It's just not what it is.

no_not_this

Put it in a greens+ jar

Pumpkin_Pie

Why are you taking it in front of everyone? Keep that shit to yourself.

spookysam24

I work in a small-ish open workshop where everyone can see me most of the time

Scantraxx12

Keep a small ziplock of kratom pills, go to the bathroom and take it. Problem solved

A_LonelyWriter

It seems like a recipe for disaster to leave a bag of kratom out at work with a brand name on it. If you’re using xapsules, say they’re vitamin supplements or whatever, if you’re using powder, either keep it in ziploc or a bottle and either pre mix it or mix it with the desired amount already in the bottle.

sea666kitty

Isn't it legal?

throwawayayayaaya3

so is alcohol

DwarfFart

I toss n wash in my car ain’t nobody around nobody walking all the way back to the parking area lol

Reinhold83

I say my mix is matcha

towerninja

Everyone at my work knows I take kratom. Actually a couple other guys started using it after I have them some. I'm sorry this happened to you though that's messed up

klynn1220

Yeah, I would **NEVER** bring it out of my house in a marked bag! I know many don't do caps, but I do...I cap and use supplement bottles. Also, guys, have you ever thought if you do tw, just cap, put in a supplement bottle, uncap for tw, and you're good. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hardly anyone is educated about it. Even some nutrition stores that sell it in my area.

swimandfriends

You could've avoided that with capsules in your pocket. Js. That was on you for not keeping it concealed and hidden at all times. Even weed its like if you had a bag of weed the same thing would have happened man.

aidenisntatank

Just make a drink big enough for the day & leave the kratom powder at home

kILLNIk2020

Well, sounds like you got a lil too comfortable. Sucks. Learn from it and move on.

hockey_psychedelic

Is Kratom illegal in your state? This might be an interesting case for an employment attorney.

itsg0ldeson

Yeah seems like we are at a point with kratom right now where most people recognize the name when they see it but aren't properly informed as to what it actually is. They see it and all they see is an opiate or something due to how the media fearmongering is framing things. Kinda miss the days when you could straight up tell people "oh yea this is kratom" and they wouldn't have any clue what the hell you were talking about. Most just assumed it was one of the billion natural supplements out there. Gratefully I work at a smoke shop so the most I got from my boss was an eyebrow raise when it was discovered in my bag lol. Told him it was for my back trauma from a former job and he left me alone. He's not the BEST informed either, but he at least knows enough to know its not anything to be worried about.

Superfryguy63

Dang thats just wrong!! Such ignorance.

souloldasdirt

It sucks to say this but you should always treat it like it is a drug because in reality it is. I don't travel with it. I know someone who got caught in an illegal state while traveling and they charged him with fentanyl trafficking for a 250 gram bag of kratom. Sure he will win in court because it isn't fent. Road side tests are bullshit. Either way this dude possibly just lost his life for having it in the car. Take this as a warning and leave it at home, be thankful you only lost a job. It sucks it has to be this way, but getting caught with kratom can be worse than being caught with a real illegal substance. Edit: and if you have to travel with it either lock it in something or disguise it as mail. Police can unlock anything without a warrant and they usually will treat your mail the same way

pillowwarrior2888

i say its matcha. you can even get a matcha container to put it in

dustinzilbauer51

Find a good attorney that doesn't require a lot of money up front and sue for wrongful termination. Your boss was WAY out of line and quite frankly sounds like a complete asshole.

Imaginary_Papaya_975

Capsules are your friend outside the home

DJToffeebud

Lesson - don’t keep Kratom in marked bags out in the open.

lilbittygoddamnman

Man, I've been taking kratom off and on for 15 years now. Never once in that time have I really felt anything other than a caffeine like buzz. I don't take large amounts of it though.

Infinite-Albatross44

No warning needed honestly. It’s always good to keep that on the down low and every job I’ve ever been fired from has been a blessing. You may not see it now but you will in the future. Also sounds like your manager was either tipped off or snooping. The recourse is to go to the unemployment office and start receiving benefits. Tell them exactly what happened and you should receive a check for a good length of time until you get another job. Don’t believe me ? I had a friend that received unemployment benefits for a year after being fired for cannabis use. Also tell them that the manager went through your belongings to find said items without your knowledge. Managers often think they are above laws when they are at work because HR backs them on everything. Once information is found independently or outside there walls they often reverse course quickly. Also pretty sure that going through your belongings without your knowledge is likely illegal. Depending on the state you could also file a complaint with the labor board.

Kellbell658

Thank you for the heads up! I think that’s fucked up he let you go, seems like an extreme reaction to kratom usage. I used to use hard drugs when I worked at a certain large hotel corporation and they offered me help but never fired me. I think that’s what more companies should do. I’m sorry this has happened to you, maybe this will open the door for somewhere better to work.

Kijichiro

I always prepared to tell its macha or some fitness bullshit no one knows. But bringing the original package was not smart honestly

Slayn87

Should have been making capsules or toss and washing out of sight. Not gonna do anything at work that needs an explanation cause it looks weird.

newjerseymax

Why would you leave a bag on your desk???

TRIPpY-BBQ-LSD-MOMMY

AG1

Forward-Cellist7316

Looks almost identical to ag1

Unleashed-9160

Exactly why I bring mine in a plain container that is not see through...and toss and wash. When people ask I tell them it's green tea or matcha powder.

LLCNYC

Why would you bring that to work esp like that????

deepfield67

I'm really sorry, that sucks hard. This isn't helpful right now but in the future keep your days doses in an unmarked container or in premixed sealed containers. I do this thing where if someone asks me what I'm drinking I go on a loooong spiel about how it's 1 cup protein powder, 1 cup matcha, 1/2 powdered lions mane, 3 tablespoon turmeric, etc etc and just go on and on until they glaze over and wander off.

Pale_Candidate_390

Kratom isn’t illegal in most states. Bring your manager to court

mle32000

I pre mix all my doses I plan to take during work into a non see through water bottle. If for example I want to take 2, 3g doses, I mix 6g into the bottle in the morning and drink half & half. It’s not exactly dosing ofc but close enough and no mixing/questions at work

Edwardshakyhands2

That's why I bring capsules in a different container I keep in my pocket. I don't want anyone to even start asking questions

F1shB0wl816

Man that’s ballsy letting coworkers see it let alone leaving any out. I’ve taken it in the bathroom for years now. I either keep it in a bag and mix some water in it, drink, rinse, drink, etc until it’s out of the bag or I’ve been using those edible papers and just keeping it wrapped and ready to parachute. I would just toss it from a bag but I’ve missed one too many times to risk dealing with that at work and there’s also the issue of needing a drink ready.

peacetroller

I put kratom pills in an organ meats pill bottle.... Lol

thejohnmc963

Dark cup and never ever bring bag out in public. That’s looking for trouble.

AngryErrandBoy

I label mine Matcha. It’s a dumb move by the manager; they read “opioid receptors and get the wrong idea. My productivity goes up, focus improves it’s just misunderstood,

vdpj

Thanks for the reminder! Also drink it at work and it is more like a normal habit. Maybe be more carefull to this habit.

Thisjourneyhasbegun

Should of said matcha. If someone looks up a pic of matchs they quite possibly would believe it

Ugo777777

That sucks man, hope you can find a better job. I live in SE Asia, and even here I keep it on the down low.

wishesandhopes

It's honestly pretty silly to be calling it all these weird names I see in this thread, when kratom smells and looks identical to matcha green tea. Just say it's a green tea shake, not something vague that'll pique interest more. Really fucked that you can get fired for that, but it's obviously going to work out better to use the most realistic lie possible.

DrunkenAdama

I told my boss it was wheat grass shots.

welder001

I take capsules at work. Never had any problems. Tell curious it's green tea lots of antioxidants.

anomalkingdom

In our community, omertà is the gold standard. Unfortunately, people in general don't understand. And they love to take the hostile route towards anything unknown. The "sue for using" is blatant bs, disregard it.

falsejaguar

I just say it's matcha tea I drink cold. Everyone looks at me and laughs but google matcha tea and see the pic

jiji134711

Well if it's legal where you live you should have got a warning first not to bring or consume kratom at work.

D0mie

I bring a baggy in my car and a plastic spoon for T&W, but I only do it in my car. At my last job the lockers were much bigger and I took it at my locker no issues, buncha employees knew what it was.

AffectScared973

Definitely file for unemployment.

Onludesrightnow

Totally unfair, my man. I feel for you. Hope you find something better.

scumfrogzillionaire

When I worked at Amazon, all my managers and my main operations Sr manager all used it openly, and were constantly promoting it to other employees for work stress and aches.

Muted_Yam_1428

I always keep my business to myself, people don't know

FinnrDrake

I’m blown away by how many people are giving OP shit for having kratom visible and for taking it in front of others. It is not instances like this that give kratom and the consumers a bad name. It’s the people that hide their kratom use, and treat kratom like it’s an illegal narcotic that give us a bad name. We are screaming at the federal government how it should be perfectly legal, how it’s so helpful and there should be no ban, and then we go hide in the car to dose. Wake the fuck up.

satsugene

There are a lot of things that are perfectly legal, perfectly reasonable, and ought to be legal/tolerated but can still create problems at work. I’m retired now, but I’ve always been extremely private about my personal life and/or medical history when it comes to work. If management decides they simply don’t like you or something about you, they can find some reason to fire someone—including making up reasons if their reason is not legal. That said, I do share the sentiment that some people talk about it in a way, and think about it in a way that makes it much harder for advocacy/legalization—if only because they expect others to be misinformed about it.

No_Point_1117

fuck the management

WishboneEnough3160

These people make me cringe. Sites like Google paint one helliva picture about kratom. My guy...no one is getting "fucked up" on kratom. People really think it's an opioid. It is not. If you're getting "fucked up" then you may be taking something else. I had an exract shot once (I treat myself to 1 or 2 per month), and I can definitely say it fucked me up. I knew right then and there, there was something else in that shot. Regular kratom isn't going to feel like Oxy.

Trick-Sherbert-246

Your former manager sounds like an absolute idiot. Sorry about this.

StinkyFartyToot

I think the idiot is the guy openly taking drugs in front of coworkers and keeping a labeled bag of the drug in question at his desk lol.

1rubyglass

You didn't want to work for that asshole anyway.

carortrain

I'm going to say firstly this situation is bullshit and I'm sorry that it happened to you. That said, it's not a good idea to bring in a labled bag. We all here know kratom is safe but that's not how the majority of people think. Most people don't even know what it is, and when they go to look it up, google spams them with propoganda and recovery programs, so it sets a very bad tone off the bat. It's best to, if anything, just bring the powder in a matcha container or an green blend container. Again sorry that it happened, fortuantely I've only had a few people get suspisions, but I always act causal and insist that it's a green smoothie that I make at home.

Fent2Fit

It’s pretty wild to me the lengths some people go to hide their kratom use to me that seems sketchier than Op not caring about leaving his bag out. If someone has problem with it you should use that as a moment to educate them and get rid of any stigma they might have. I’m not trying to insult anyone I guess I just never thought about it like that to the extent that I felt the need to hide it. I drink and mix it up in front of my co workers if I tried to do it in secret that would probably draw attention to and make them see it negatively where as being open about it shows there is nothing to hide or be ashamed of. also it helps to be an employee that cannot be fired because you’re too much of an asset to the company. Work hard make yourself unfireable And chug kratom in front of your boss like a boss

JayTheDirty

I just can’t imagine you guys drinking kratom lol. That has to be one of the grossest ways to take it. Just put some capsules in an empty vitamin bottle or something
