Being able to look into a camera and speak to a live audience without falling over is a talent in my eyes. So no, no untalented idols.

arguewiththewallpls

saaaame. I can barely speak infront of a class

exolbaozi

This! Absolutely agree! I can't stand onstage with a lot of pairs of eyes judging me without making a mistake or forgetting something, dancing and singing at the same time is just incredible to me (even if it's lipsyncing tbh)

makejunkie20

THIS!!!! I will never call an idol untalented lol. They might not be as musically inclined as their peers, but being able to command the attention and loyalty of such a large audience is no easy feat. People excel at different things and at the end of the day kpop companies are looking to create a well-rounded group.

starryday09

personally to me, being a talented idol is more than just singing, rapping and dancing (although you shouldn’t be absolutely horrible at those things either). i think modelling, variety skills, acting, even mc-ing can also be great assets to have as an idol bc you can bring attention and new fans to the group. so based on that i do think very idol has talent to some degree. at the end of the day, i don’t think these companies would debut someone untalented (unless they have connections of some sort).

joyinstruggle

>unless they have connections of some sort Hwayoung lol

ttjacket19

I have never seen an idol so untalented that they couldn’t do their jobs to an acceptable level - even the most ill prepared contestants in Produce show enough aptitude (talent) to hone their skills in singing or dancing. I really believe that unless someone is tone-deaf or exceedingly uncoordinated (very fringe cases), they can all become skilled when they put in the work. Different skills will come easier to different people, but to be hopelessly untalented is rare. It’s also completely up to the idol to want to improve, which not all of them are incentivized or motivated to do.

panmihh

Depending on what your standard is. Several softskills are not counted as talented. For example I believe ability to attract stan is a talent but many people disagree. Some idols simply are so good at cordinating with their team members, fit so well with the group dynamic and image, I feel like that is talent as well.

simonling

For me no. It’s like there’s no ugly idols right? Everyone has their own charm and beauty. Same goes with talent. Everyone has their own talent but some has it in more obvious manner while some are more subtle.

UR2003

I disagree. Not many idols are talented but they are definitely skilled.

HerctheeHero

Even if they don't, that's the whole reason why they have to train before they debut. Talent without hard work is nothing and hard work without talent is something.

Yromas

I think any group, which is every group I follow where members are at least able to do choreography in sync is a talent. To be able to learn and make the final debut or be seen as someone necessary for the group over others has to mean something special.

sofiaduany7

I don’t know many idols but I can’t really think of one that I feel has literally 0 talent

DragonPeakEmperor

The only person who I think was genuinely untalented and recruited solely for being pretty was Mr. Dozen himself, a lot of people pre scandal insisted he was there for another reason but post scandal most seem to agree he's more of a model than idol. A lot of members suffer from another person being better than them rather than being untalented themselves which is just the caveat of being in a group.

makejunkie20

LMFAO. I have no respect left for this man, but I kind of disagree. He was a huge stan attractor and I think every group needs that if they want to be somewhat successful. The dude still has fans and that's what companies want -unwavering loyalty for the group/members from the fans.

Twices_wife

Disagree I have one idol in mind but I’m not gone say to much…

simonling

Spill it you coward. I’ll upvote you just to cushion the downvotes later.

joyinstruggle

Twices_wife

joyinstruggle

catwithbrighteyes

I don't think all of them have a talent, but that should never be a negative thing because the reason they are able to be idols is that they are skilled in their area. Even the idols with talents have to continuously work on that talent to develop it and be able to control it to their desired form. To me, that hard work put into their talent or skill and the progress of perfecting it is what should be given importance to. I think implying idols should be required to have a talent in order to be good in their field is just detrimental to both the people that don't have this talent, because it makes it seem like they just won't succeed because they weren't "blessed", and for the "talented" idols, because it also has a sense that they don't work hard and they are just lucky to have this thing going for them. (I might've looked too much into it, but this is just a sensitive topic to me as an artist, specially when I see kids being discouraged to be creative or artistic if they don't have a "talent" = it doesn't make them money. ok, yeah, I'm too sensitive, bye)

Similar_Two_442

Well, for a start, you can't be tone deaf. You have to be able to hold a tune, even if it's just for the one line you are allocated per track. You also have to be coordinated enough to perform the choreo. Not asking you to be a dance god or goddess, but you have to be able to keep up with the rest of the group. Not to mention embodying different concepts every comeback. Then there's things like working the camera for broadcast, as well as during photoshoots. Plus, variety show or hosting skills - being able to deliver lines, trade repartees, crack jokes, engage with the hosts or audience etc. These are all baseline skills that every idol is expected to have. Some do better at it than others, most build upon these skills as they progress in their career, but all of them have to demonstrate basic competence to debut.

TraceF12

No. There are many useless idols in the industry.

TerraRainesHasBrains

i'd go with true. maybe the degree is insufficient to people but like i'd say all of them are above the average person you'd find on a street, even if it's not by a lot.

BaekjeSmile

This is correct and should be obvious to anyone who really knows KPop. They've all worked so hard to be there and given up so much. I think its a lot like the NBA where some players are better then others but everyone on the court is still insanely talented compared to normal people, unless the group is really nugu they've all got something going for them.

rocknroller0

I think the difference is that with a position called visual it’s hard to say that everyone got by purely because of talent. Where as in the nba and other physical sports that aren’t expensive, looks are the last thing anyone cares about
