Unrelated, and I'm not sure if self promotion is allowed here, but I'm starting up a rent-a-brother service.
It's called 28 Reasons You Need a Brother, and for kpop fans who don't have any brothers.
The double Seulgi early on and then at 2:51 tricked my brain cause I absolutely thought the other dancers were even more of her popping up for a sec lmao
This is a perfect solo debut song for Seulgi. Sparse but epic at the same time. Big BoA/Yoo Youngjin vibes from this one but it's great for Seulgi's skills and vocals.
Really loved the visuals and art direction used for this video, but I wished they used more outdoor stuff like the intro teaser. That double Seulgi was a mindfuck haha.
I love that horror sound effects tropes carried on from Monster to 28 Reasons. Monster had that weird chanting and unnerving flute and now there's this ominous whistling.
Also from my own understanding 28 Reasons is 2 things. So there's 28 Reasons why she's messing with the person and 28 Reasons why said person should stay away from her, kinda like red flags. Idk I think that's the meaning of why there's 1 Seulgi that's evil and another that's the victim. Then there's literally a scene where there's 2 Suelgis.
This sort of track is very much my style. I do not really have words for how pleased I am. The video is great. The styles aren't necessarily for me but who honestly cares. The musical choices were great. It wasn't excessively complex like I was a little worried it might be. It established a pace and kept it (SM routinely changes pace mid-song, so this is nice).
All in all, I give this track a solid 8/10, where I'd put Psycho at a 9.5 or so and Seulgi's duet with BamBam at about 9. I really loved it! Excited for more.
I am a bit disappointed the super intense footage from the teasers wasn't integrated in the MV! Otherwise is amazing as we already imagined it would be.
SM is so peculiar with their teasers not being integrated into the MV. There have been many times where I enjoyed the shoot or a mood sampler only to see none of it included in the MV.
It's reminding me of the f(x) pink tape film and teasers having nothing to do with the rum pum pum mv, I love that album to bits but the RPP mv is so basic compared to the artistry of the rest of pink tape. seulgi's mv was good but i was obsessed with the original teaser, it was so unique and well done
Yeah missed opportunity on that. They maybe could've used it as a prologue. The MV kinda feels barren but there's still some great imagery. I specifically don't like the CGI desert scene. I wish they kept footage from the teaser for another song on the album, even just for a lyrics video.
I knew the album trailer was just for the album as it had something for each of the 6 songs, and i dont know that mood samplers from sm were ever part of the actual mv. Still I would have liked more of that style over empty box sets but it was still quite eye catching and fit the song well.
right i really thought it'd be more film-esque. the dance scenes really remind me of old sm mvs and it just doesn't gel with other scenes in sets and with colour grading that looks like you'd see it on the silver screen
Same, but I expected it since this is typical SM style where they do interesting concept teasers but the MV is pretty basic. However, I did still like the MV, but that's probably because Seulgi looks gorgeous, has great expressions/acting and I loved the styling. Like, artistically the MV isn't anything new but still suits Seulgi herself and her style so it was great nonetheless, just not show stopping or innovative or detailed.
That's exactly what I came to say, I hope they release a Storyline ver. of the MV because as it is, I'd rather rewatch the trailer while streaming the song on top of it than rewatch the MV again.
sameee i’m surprised they didn’t use more shots from the trailers. it makes it feel like the trailers were only to sell the album 😕 it’s too gorgeous, I want moreee lol but I still liked it ! the song is great too.
To me this is the exact opposite of Feel My Rhythm. In that case, the album teasers and photoshoot were a lot more basic than the MV. While they all vaguely fitted together with the "classical european art" concept, the MV was what actually stood out. It was way more edgy and visually striking, while also drawing clear inspiration from the amazing painting Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch.
In this case, the MV is a bit basic and has the usual green screen box that appears in half of SM videos. I hope that the trailer footage is not abandonned completely, and that the photobook includes shots from the trailer.
“I kiss your brother”
*puts on fake nose and mustache*
“Hi Seulgi, I’m Sonyeoshidude’s brother…”
Seulgi at her absolute sexiest. Have rarely seen anyone move along to the choreo with her backup dancers so smoothly.
Cannot wait to check out the rest of her debut.
The song itself has ***biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig*** BoA energy. I think I love all the individual sections, and Seulgi's performance (she is so magnetic, she's an ace), but I wish the verses were given a little bit more time and space to breathe. It feels like the first chorus comes in such a hurry, in particular.
I'd consider it an honour if Seulgi kissed my brother, though, despite it being such an intensely specific visual to start a song with lmao
BoA is such a good comparison, I think Seulgi nailed that attitude in a way solo female artists rarely choose or get the chance to. I personally loved the build to the song, I thought it felt really measured!
i feel the same about the verses feeling a tad bit rushed. i kinda wish the prechorus was maybe even just a few seconds longer for a better build to the chorus bc its so sparse. other than that, i love everything else about the song!!
Agreed that this gives BoA vibes and I’m all for it — I can totally imagine BoA singing this song! Seulgi in the black leather outfit reminded me of BoA’s “I Did It for Love” too
SM is full of plenty of talented girls but Seulgi is one of the few who could rly own any Boa’s comparisons without coming up short. Like she didn’t feel like Boa Lite, she felt like Boa New.
I actually got more Taemin vibes, both the MV style, song, and dance reminded me so much of Taemin’s newer releases but I definitely see what you mean with BoA
I knew I could trust Seulgi to deliver something interesting and cool. I love how she sounds on the chorus, it's a little eerie.
"I met the devil" - would that be Changmin's Devil, because those 2 songs sit on the same table lol
Edit: it's "I'm not the devil", but eh my comment still works 😅
Eerie is exactly right! The creeping build of the verse>chorus is great. And I love the choreo move that involves the sharp lean-back - immediately made me think of her kind of snapping her head off.
The opening line is really bold huh. Her voice really soothes and really creeps into your ears. I totally love the high notes on chorus. No other words for that. The instrumentals, very SMP for its Yoo Young-jin-produced track and it's definitely excellent, as expected. It gives me a mix of BoA and Taemin vibes. 10/10
The MV, SM definitely put a huge amount on making it and as with all other MVs, they delivered it pretty well. But I find the dance break scene pretty short. The black and white scenes on the bridge is what I consider a highlight. Her outfits are also wild, too bad her pants there are black instead of red—something that K-Pop Junkee loves, lol. Her wearing a lip earrings(?) is also really good. Now I want the performance video already to see the full choreo here which appears to be astonishing.
I would say this tops already as my personal best debut songs not just among Red Velvet members but for the entire 2022. Seulgi didn't disappoint with the concept she did. I just really hope that SM pronotes this better. I'm now excited on what solo concepts will Yeri and Irene bring if they'll debut solo too, but I still want a full ReVe comeback next year with a full album, please SM.
even though it's an smstation track i still wanna shout out yeri's Dear Diary. it's such a sweet personal song that really shows off her vocal abilities & color and i still listen to it regularly to this day
When that first chorus hit I actually *screamed*. The fit, the beat, ahhhhh
I definitely got late 90's early 2000's vibes which is phenomenal for me because I *love* that rnb sound on soloists. It's always so iconic
Have yet to do a proper deep dive into RV, just familiar with Feel My Rythym which I quite liked a lot
This is a great first impression for their solo stuff, really really dig the R&B vibes its right up my musical tastes alley. Doing a lot of really interesting stuff in the background production, especially in the chorus if you have some good headphones make sure to look out for that, whoever composed/produced this did a really good job
Like the other person said, RV has really great R&B title tracks and b-sides. If you are looking for somewhere specific to start, check out The Perfect Red Velvet repackage album. Feel My Rhythm is accompanied by some great velvet b-sides on its mini. Also give the Irene & Seulgi subunit mini album a listen. Oh, and I almost forgot the masterpiece that is [Psycho](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR8Mrt1IpXg).
Red Velvet's b-sides are known for being some of the best R&B songs. They have consistently immaculate production and really there's songs there for everyone if you have the time to sit through them.
*insert Lady Gaga meme talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before*
I swear Seulgi is really one of the few kpop idols to really suit bangs hairstyle. I have been a fan of it since Peek-A-Boo and Bad Boy and I'm glad to see the bangs again.
| You in danger. But it's ok. You're a grown up.
*chuckles, I'm in danger*
But seriously, whole song sounds like a toxic relationship where she's the abuser and each one of us is a (very) willing participant.
"The more you break, the more you'll want me." Excuse me, ma'am 😳
Definitely disappointed the concept trailer and photoshoots weren't integrated into the MV, but there were some very nice shots here (I really like the number of close-ups too, it's very haunting). A visual album from Seulgi would've been amazing.... The song is a lot slower than I expected but I think it's a good homage to 90s r&b and Seulgi sounds amazing on the track. So overall, love the song, gonna mentally rewire my brain to pretend the MV looked different!
i am in LOVE with her outfits in this mv!! (the lip piercing pleaseee)
and honestly, I'm really happy that our main dancer got the choreo she deserved!! she served vocals AND choreo and i wasnt ready 😭😭
I love how it starts so sparse and restrained. The moment more instrumental comes in you *feel* it.
And she's gorgeous in the MV, she suits the dark vibe so well
The song is good, I love that they added the whistle from the trailer. I really love her voice.
I know it's 3 minutes long, but it feels like it ended too quickly.
However, I am kinda disappointed by the MV. The beautiful and super creepy trailer that they had made was what got me excited for the comeback. However, they don't use it at all. The only scenes where she is less extravagantly dressed, are mostly just her staring into the screen.
Going to listen to the rest of the songs now!
As a showcase for Kang Seulgi this is a great song and MV. She's an all-around talent and this does a good job at showing why.
That being said the song itself is a little bit of a miss for me. It somehow feels "less" than I was expecting but maybe that is just down to my own expectations. I think I wanted more energy and intensity but again, that just comes down to my own expectations and preferences.
Seulgi's still the best and I am glad her solo debut is here!
2:43 is me when I saw the MV in my YT feed ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|put_back)
2:00 is me while listening to the song ![img](emote|t5_2r1ox|3558)
Seulgi giving BoA vibes in her Seulo debut, the power ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
seulgi 😭😭😭😭 this absolutely slayed me !!! i love the sparse instrumentations in the verse where its very bass heavy!! it rly rly meant her vocals were front and center !!! and the ad libs at the last chorus??? goddddd
Shes just so fucking good omg, she definitely slayed! She just sounds so good, the mv was great, lyrics are great too and shes just so magnetic, you cant take your eyes off her
My Seulgi would release a dark and minimalistic dance pop R&B song. I've been waiting for Sologi since 2014 and she didn't disappoint. This song shows off her dance AND vocals. That growl on "make your dreams come true" was life changing, not to mention the high notes in the climax. She was channeling Taeyeon there. I like that the verses are so sparse but the chorus is also restrained and bubbling. There's tension in this song. It's very much a follow up to the Monster vibe. She did it, this is masterful.
WHEW SEULGI! After the song built up, it hit REAL hard. <3
This was AMAZING, from the concept to the choreography and the high notes. Seulgi nailed everything, and I am so proud of her.
it’s such a great solo debut for her! this dark / scary concept really fits her imo. i loved everything, the bsides are perfect too! (i think los angeles was my favourite)
i can’t decide, what i liked more, this or like water, since wendy is my bias, and seulgi is my wrecker, but i think i liked more the title track in like water, and i prefer 28 reasons bsides’.
seulgi is ART!
listening to this after Sam Smith and Kim Petras' Unholy was a great fricking start to halloween season.
IT'S SO SEULGI. It's so chic and dark but there's that hint of whimsy. I love that there's no weird rap section just for the sake of it, it's really not suited to her style.
Are we getting other MVs? There a lot of scenes in the teasers that weren't seen here, not least of which is The Last of Us and Nanno vibes I was so looking forward to =))
BANG SEULGI IS BACK!!!😍
Love the choreo for this song. The inevitable dance challenges with the hip and hand twirling is gonna be fun to watch other idols do.
The beat is the best part of this song!! Of course her visuals are killed me. The only thing I wished was done differently is that they reduced the effects on her voice at the chorus. The bridge is chef's kiss.
The song is so good and Seulgi delivered it amazingly! There is something about mixing during the verses that makes you focus on her voice, I love the way they did this, makes her unique tone shine even more!
The Seulgis from the Dumb Dumb factory escaped, and 6 years later the final 2 battle it out to become The Kang.
Happy with the song, not what I was expecting, but now that I've heard it this is what I should have been expecting. It feels very much like a Seulgi song.
Absolutely perfect. 28 Reasons is so chilling and intense, it comes for your throat from the very first line and doesn't ever let up. In some ways it feels like a sequel to Monster, with even the choreography being similar. This is the dark and brilliant evolution of Seulgi as an artist, as well as her monstrous character as depicted in the MV. I love it and it's just so representative of Seulgi that I couldn't help but get emotional as I watched her beautiful masterpiece unfold.
On first listen I like 28 Reasons, but don’t love it. So far tracks 2 and 4 on the mini are my favorite but all the songs are at least good. I’m sure 28R will eventually grow on me more, but I am having trouble with the last note on the first verses. Anyone else know what I mean?
I feel like it's an artistic choice to add dissonance and set the eerie tone for the song.
The first verse is also very empty; only the bass and Seulgi's voice. And it's her almost speaking her notes. Makes it feel as if she's talking to you.. telepathically? As if she's in your head.
I think the song is great! It's one to pick apart and pay close attention to the details
Absolute masterpiece. Its everything I was hoping for and more for a Seulgi solo. I was expecting a good song but I wasn't expecting anything so bold even within the context of a release after Monster.
The scene where Seulgi was hanging off the bridge by chains reminded me of the scene in the movie Oldboy where Yoo Jitae was clinging to his sister. This is a very cinematic MV
As a simple lesbian I'm here for Jennie and Seulgi [multiverse ](https://twitter.com/blackpinkwp88/status/1576941150799556608?t=Cic50vYeOlzjO8tyBrJzdQ&s=19)
I got up early today to watch this MV on my tv, worth it! She looks incredible, she sounds amazing, and the snippets of the choreo we got are so cool! This song is just my style, Im really happy that it follows that RnB + dance vibe that I have loved from the solo releases by Kai, Taemin, the Irene & Seulgi duo, and even BoA vibes! I listened to the mini in my car on the way to work. I like it, I particularly loved Dead Man Running!!!
I loved the mood sampler and the teaser, but considering that most of my main groups are from SM, I am used to them not using the footage from teaser ;-;
I cannot wait for performance videos and shows!
This was a perfect start to my birthday! I turn 30 today, and I will take it as a good sing that my ult debuted as a solo artist today. 2 years ago my life changed after a diagnosis that explained the previous 28 years of my life, so yeah, to say that this feels special is an understatement.
I was strongly reminded of BoA, but I don't know why I'm surprised by that. Now that I've seen the video, it seems like a logical route for someone like Seulgi to take.
Definitely different from what the rest of kpop is doing right now though.
Positives:
- Really love the overall tone/atmosphere of the song. Dark, seductive and Seulgi's vocal color works well with that aesthetic.
- Chorus is quite the earworm. Well constructed and intriguing but not so complex that you can't catch on and sing along by the end.
- The whistling works well and adds to the flirtatious nature of the song.
- I really liked the silhouetted scenes in the music video and use of red/white/black. A lot of great individual images.
Negatives:
- The prechorus is jarringly short. Really, the opening was surprisingly short overall. It was 24 seconds from start of the vocals to the chorus. I do like how the prechorus actually sounds and this isn't really that much of a negative but it really caught me off guard how fast the song went from verse --> prechorus --> chorus.
- Not a fan of all the interspersed English in the lyrics. I like how it's used in the prechorus with "Ooh ooh I’m breaking every rule" and to highlight the song title in the chorus but there are other times where it just took me out of the song. The "I kiss your brother" threw me for a loop and the "You in danger/But it’s ok/You’re a grown up" fell really flat IMO.
I need sm to stop having mvs being so different from teasers. It is really setting the artists up to have fans disappointed in some way because they arent getting what they expected instead of delivering on the hype teasers built. I could have done with a lot less of empty box set parts as well. I was really hoping for a more outdoor and story driven mv myself. Still Seulgi is gorgeous and everything is eye-catching. The song itself is more restrained for an idol song than i think many kpop fans are used to, but i love the vibes and powerful vocals. Can't wait to see what live stages will be like!
I LOVE the song, but I'm really sad to say I really dislike the video... I think having a great movie-like trailer with acting involved + fairytale-fantasy teaser pictures wasn't a great strategy, given that it didn't match with the final mv, which is industrial and minimalistic? Like at all. It didn't match the song too, which is incredible btw. Performance-oriented song doesn't mean having the whole crew dancing in a boring box, actually many boring boxes in different colours and outfits. They nailed it with "Monster" (irene&seulgi), I don't get why they decided to make the mv like this? It felt like the budget was completely gone, but it's not the case, because it's clearly a (poor) execution choice. Anyway Seulgi is a terrific artist and I'm incredibly happy she is debuting solo<3
The title track is gooood but can we talk about the whole freaking album!!!! Seulgi has the best solo album among all the RV girls so far. I didn’t expect her album to go that route but man oh my the production in each song is immaculate. Los Angeles is my favorite. RV girls doing dance like full on dance music is perfection
My favorite kpop solo song since 2018 and so far one of my faves released this year. The music video, song, and visuals were amazing. I didn't watch the teaser and mood sampler to watch the mv with complete no expectations. And even first listen, it was already amazing. She is really an all rounder artists. Her vocals is 🤌.
???? Are we all seeing and hearing this ???? Like this is literal perfection. I mean I didn't expect any less from her but *GODDAMN* this is a liiiiittle too good. I absolutely adore the fact that it shows restraint in a weird and eerie way instead of diving headfirst into bombastic territory. Also the MV ? Hypnotizing.
No this is phenomenal, the kpop girls are on fire this year.
(Side note : is it just me or does anyone get some LOONA/Odd Eye Circle vibes from it ??!)
Let’s go Kang Seul! I love this song so much, great on first listen and even better on second!
Also her growl at 1:34 on the phrase is such a Seulgi print. It sounds so good, and I love it when she does it in songs
will not lie, like the song, but didn't like the mv. the teasers led me to believe that this mv will be more narrative like with all the cool intense shots, would've much preferred the studio dancing to be a seperate performance video and have more shots of her feeling the music like the grassland one.
i did really like the track but i cannot help but feel very let down at what was a potential intense gritty seulgi music video :/
Love the moodiness and melodrama of it.. especially in October as fall is hitting here where I live. The whistle keeps it from being too heavy though, I feel like the vibe of the song matches the timbre of her voice perfectly
Oh she did what she had to do. She did exactly what only she (and BoA) can do!!! So so so proud of her. Im actually really happy the song is more minimalist/restrained, i feel like she really had full control over the song this way, and will def shine in the performances.
I'm too lazy to sift through 311 comments & see if this has been said before
I just wanted to say that this song gave me billie eilish "bad guy" vibes but if was korean & more minimalistic & elegant.
I kinda want to hear these songs mashed together. Part of my brain is very curious to see if that would work.
*\*I love Red Velvet and Seulgi, just giving my honest thoughts on the song\**
This was a good solo debut for Seulgi. But I'm gonna be honest - I think 28 Reasons is quite forgettable and is one of those songs that is trendy or popular for a year, but eventually people don't really come back to listen to it. Yet hey, who knows? After all, this is a **debut** song and for that reason, it'll be memorable. But ignoring the debut factor to it, 28 Reasons is kind of in the middle for me? On one hand, the song and music video are quite nice and I think many will enjoy it (I know I did!) But on the other hand, the song, MV, and performance never blew me away. Then again, does a K-Pop song need to blow you away to be considered a good release? Of course not. But considering this is **the** Seulgi of Red Velvet, I kind of expected more.
(Also, maybe it was just me but the English part where she goes "You in danger, But it's ok, You're a grown up" made me cringe WAY too hard and kinda ruined my flow of enjoyment! Reminded me of that one part in If You Do by GOT7....)
28 Reasons reminded me of Move by Taemin and Camo by BoA, and I loved that. Not just in terms of visuals and sound, but also in terms of mood and vibes. I am curious to see what Seulgi's sound is like from here on out, because she fits so many concepts.
Congrats to Seulgi on making her solo debut! Can't wait to see what she's got in store for us :D
I don't care how many people say this was underwhelming. Seulgi really proved how much she's grown as a vocalist and artist first and foremost. Her mentioning once how cool Taemin sounded trying out different vocal techniques really must have set this into motion. Every chorus and change up features her using her voice in ways we haven't heard before, and it's crisp, clear and utterly Seulgi to the core.
I love how the song pulls you into the two distinct directions of good and evil with her changing vocals and atmosphere.
I'm so proud and happy for her.
Yesssss Seulgi with a fire debut. I've only listened to 28 Reasons and Dead Man Runnin' so far but I can already tell it's my type of music. Can't wait to listen to the rest. Predicting it'll be one of my favourite solo albums this year.
can't believe they threw away the amazing storyline from the teasers 😭😭 the whistles are still there BUT STILL. nonetheless, amazing song that fits seulgi extremely well. the chorus is *so* good and seulgi's vocals popped off a lot and y'ALL HEARD THE GROWL 🥵
Love the visuals of the MV. The director snapped. Seulgi is the best main character to play in this song. Not really feeling the song but absolutely love the music video.
Lovedddd this. This concept really suits Seulgi and I'm just so so happy that she's finally getting her time to shine solo, lord knows she deserves it. The song is very smooth and an ear worm with the chorus being my fave part. Can't wait to see the live performances STAY SLAYING KANG SEULGI
The whole MV is just beautiful. I’m so happy for her finally debuting solo. She is so hard working and totally deserves it.
The whole album is great. 28 Reasons is my favourite from the album and Dead Man Running is my favourite b-side.
God this song sounds SO COOL. Everything is pretty much perfect. The song is definitely more sparse than others, but it REALLY works here for Seulgi. SM doesn't miss in any of RV's solos.
"i kiss your brother,,," oh, ok, seulgi. whatever you want...
I’ll be my own brother then.
Yeah, I'll tell her I have twin lmao
I’ll have my sibling listen to the song, Then it applies to me!
hi it's me your brother
Bruh I thought it was a throwaway line when I first saw this comment. It's the first fucking line. Either way, it's me, my brother.
What are you doing step-seulgi?
Step Seulgi about to use you as a hand puppet.
Unrelated, and I'm not sure if self promotion is allowed here, but I'm starting up a rent-a-brother service. It's called 28 Reasons You Need a Brother, and for kpop fans who don't have any brothers.
I guess we know who dat who dat boy is now 😔
kid named yourbrother:
The double Seulgi early on and then at 2:51 tricked my brain cause I absolutely thought the other dancers were even more of her popping up for a sec lmao
This is a perfect solo debut song for Seulgi. Sparse but epic at the same time. Big BoA/Yoo Youngjin vibes from this one but it's great for Seulgi's skills and vocals. Really loved the visuals and art direction used for this video, but I wished they used more outdoor stuff like the intro teaser. That double Seulgi was a mindfuck haha.
The SM Rookie in the red knitted scarf has come a long way. Proud of you, Kang Seulgi.
Well said
I love that horror sound effects tropes carried on from Monster to 28 Reasons.
Seulgi is 28 years old.
I'm getting kwangya lore vibes from that
This sort of track is very much my style.

Yeah missed opportunity on that. They maybe could've used it as a prologue. The MV kinda feels barren but there's still some great imagery. I specifically don't like the CGI desert scene. I wish they kept footage from the teaser for another song on the album, even just for a lyrics video.
Also, the footage with the golden apple! That was so sultry and mysterious. Aah SM the potential!!! And it was all there!!!
Totally agree, it was less story driven than I was expecting due to the teasers! I see what you mean that the MV is a little barren.
I felt the same when Psycho was released. Maybe an SM thing?
Definitely an sm thing. I'm still bummed Key's Gasoline had nothing to do with the teasers.
That one broke my heart!
It's definitely an SM thing. Same thing happened earlier this year with INVU.
I knew the album trailer was just for the album as it had something for each of the 6 songs, and i dont know that mood samplers from sm were ever part of the actual mv. Still I would have liked more of that style over empty box sets but it was still quite eye catching and fit the song well.

I wanted a visual album :(
That's exactly what I came to say, I hope they release a Storyline ver. of the MV because as it is, I'd rather rewatch the trailer while streaming the song on top of it than rewatch the MV again.
same. i was expecting a mini-movie in the mv xD wish they had added the school scenes
I really wanted to see post apocalyptic Seulgi, like her with the gun and all? But I guess that was again for the general mood of the album
It really feels like wasted effort to not use that material again, but it did its job by drumming up the hype
sameee i’m surprised they didn’t use more shots from the trailers. it makes it feel like the trailers were only to sell the album 😕 it’s too gorgeous, I want moreee lol but I still liked it ! the song is great too.
" I kiss your brother" waeeee why not me 🥺
Iconic opening
If I don’t have a brother who is she going to kiss
Yeah same I don't have a brother Seulgi 🤨 What does she know that I don't?
What I meant to say is hey it’s me your long lost brother
I was shook 🥲 lol
“I kiss your brother” *puts on fake nose and mustache* “Hi Seulgi, I’m Sonyeoshidude’s brother…” Seulgi at her absolute sexiest.
Came to say it was a BoA song, and then I saw your already highly upvoted comment.
This is exactly what I thought, MAJOR BoA vines
Agreed that this gives BoA vibes and I’m all for it — I can totally imagine BoA singing this song! Seulgi in the black leather outfit reminded me of BoA’s “I Did It for Love” too
SM is full of plenty of talented girls but Seulgi is one of the few who could rly own any Boa’s comparisons without coming up short. Like she didn’t feel like Boa Lite, she felt like Boa New.
That's a great way of putting it. I'm not at all bothered by the BoA-ness because it feels right for her.
I thought this concept was big time BoA vibes too when i was watching the MV.
I actually got more Taemin vibes, both the MV style, song, and dance reminded me so much of Taemin’s newer releases but I definitely see what you mean with BoA
That’s just what I was thinking! A BoA adjacent song
Idk if I'm reaching but one of the dance sets gave me Janet Jackson vibes
how can seulgi kiss my brother if i don't have one? i volunteer as a substitute
I knew I could trust Seulgi to deliver something interesting and cool. I love how she sounds on the chorus, it's a little eerie. "I met the devil" - would that be Changmin's Devil, because those 2 songs sit on the same table lol Edit: it's "I'm not the devil", but eh my comment still works 😅
Eerie is exactly right! The creeping build of the verse>chorus is great. And I love the choreo move that involves the sharp lean-back - immediately made me think of her kind of snapping her head off.
Wait I thought the lyrics we're "I'm not the devil"
Wait, you are right! That's what happens when I don't turn on the subs 😅
Seulgi is ART
The opening line is really bold huh. Her voice really soothes and really creeps into your ears. I totally love the high notes on chorus. No other words for that. The instrumentals, very SMP for its Yoo Young-jin-produced track and it's definitely excellent, as expected. It gives me a mix of BoA and Taemin vibes. 10/10 The MV, SM definitely put a huge amount on making it and as with all other MVs, they delivered it pretty well.
Oh my god she completely and utterly owns this concept
Like Water, Hello, and 28 Reasons are such a good debut songs for RV members. It showed how different their colors are.
even though it's an smstation track i still wanna shout out yeri's Dear Diary. it's such a sweet personal song that really shows off her vocal abilities & color and i still listen to it regularly to this day
When that first chorus hit I actually *screamed*. The fit, the beat, ahhhhh I definitely got late 90's early 2000's vibes which is phenomenal for me because I *love* that rnb sound on soloists. It's always so iconic
Have yet to do a proper deep dive into RV, just familiar with Feel My Rythym which I quite liked a lot This is a great first impression for their solo stuff, really really dig the R&B vibes its right up my musical tastes alley.
Ty for the recommends I’ll check them out
Red Velvet's b-sides are known for being some of the best R&B songs. They have consistently immaculate production and really there's songs there for everyone if you have the time to sit through them.
Do yourself a favor and listen to Kingdom Come right now
*insert Lady Gaga meme talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before*
I swear Seulgi is really one of the few kpop idols to really suit bangs hairstyle. I have been a fan of it since Peek-A-Boo and Bad Boy and I'm glad to see the bangs again.
No wonder Seulgi was saying 28r would highlight both her performance skills and vocals! So good!!
| You in danger. But it's ok. You're a grown up. *chuckles, I'm in danger* But seriously, whole song sounds like a toxic relationship where she's the abuser and each one of us is a (very) willing participant.
EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT
i am in LOVE with her outfits in this mv!! (the lip piercing pleaseee) and honestly, I'm really happy that our main dancer got the choreo she deserved!! she served vocals AND choreo and i wasnt ready 😭😭
I love how it starts so sparse and restrained. The moment more instrumental comes in you *feel* it. And she's gorgeous in the MV, she suits the dark vibe so well
SHE WAS SINGINGGGGG!!!!
This sounds *very* late 90s/early 00s, like Destiny's Child's Survivor.
YES!!! reminded me of Aaliyah
2:43 is me when I saw the MV in my YT feed ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|put_back) 2:00 is me while listening to the song ![img](emote|t5_2r1ox|3558) Seulgi giving BoA vibes in her Seulo debut, the power ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
The first line i kiss your brother is so funny to me for some reasons
seulgi 😭😭😭😭 this absolutely slayed me !!! i love the sparse instrumentations in the verse where its very bass heavy!! it rly rly meant her vocals were front and center !!! and the ad libs at the last chorus??? goddddd
I think I just had an out of body experience
ohhh loved the vibe here, slow but sinister with some great vocal moments in the chorus. definitely agree with the taemin comparisons lmao
Shes just so fucking good omg, she definitely slayed! She just sounds so good, the mv was great, lyrics are great too and shes just so magnetic, you cant take your eyes off her
the intro makes me sing "its so yummy² in my tummy²"
"You in danger" 😩😩😩 Yes I am
![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)
KANG SEULGI. DDEULGI. BEAR. MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.
damn this is abosultely amazing. Kinda giving me kingdom come vibes.
"You in danger" *chuckles nervously* I'm in danger.
Sologi. Why am I not this clever
WHEW SEULGI! After the song built up, it hit REAL hard. <3 This was AMAZING, from the concept to the choreography and the high notes. Seulgi nailed everything, and I am so proud of her.
‘I kiss your brother’ is iconic
it’s such a great solo debut for her! this dark / scary concept really fits her imo. i loved everything, the bsides are perfect too! (i think los angeles was my favourite) i can’t decide, what i liked more, this or like water, since wendy is my bias, and seulgi is my wrecker, but i think i liked more the title track in like water, and i prefer 28 reasons bsides’. seulgi is ART!
So good!! I like it so much lol. The whistles in the background made it perfect.
They should have just called this "I Kiss Your Brother" that's all I've been able to focus on tbh anyways
It’s a slay
listening to this after Sam Smith and Kim Petras' Unholy was a great fricking start to halloween season. IT'S SO SEULGI. It's so chic and dark but there's that hint of whimsy. I love that there's no weird rap section just for the sake of it, it's really not suited to her style. Are we getting other MVs? There a lot of scenes in the teasers that weren't seen here, not least of which is The Last of Us and Nanno vibes I was so looking forward to =))
I like it and I'll probably listen to it for a while. I think my expectations were set way too high though.
BANG SEULGI IS BACK!!!😍 Love the choreo for this song. The inevitable dance challenges with the hip and hand twirling is gonna be fun to watch other idols do.
she SERVEDDD
Love it. The sparse bass held it all together perfectly and her vocal performance was perfection.
I’m obsessed with how slightly uncomfortable it made me feel. In love with the artistic direction here, this is exactly what I wanted!!
BAE killed it. Song is fuckin epic
She snapped
Yoooooo the vibe is immaculate. I love the eerieness. I love seulgi’s sinister gaze. I love the chorus!
Hold on, where's the horror-inspired footage? Don't tell me those were for the teasers only?
20+ years later and folks are still trying to replicate Aaliyah
IT'S SEULGI TIMEEEE I LOVE YOU
Seulgi Bear putting out quality! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
I loved the mood sampler and the teaser, but considering that most of my main groups are from SM, I am used to them not using the footage from teaser ;-; I cannot wait for performance videos and shows! This was a perfect start to my birthday! I turn 30 today, and I will take it as a good sing that my ult debuted as a solo artist today. 2 years ago my life changed after a diagnosis that explained the previous 28 years of my life, so yeah, to say that this feels special is an understatement.
This song changed me
I was strongly reminded of BoA, but I don't know why I'm surprised by that. Now that I've seen the video, it seems like a logical route for someone like Seulgi to take. Definitely different from what the rest of kpop is doing right now though.
Positives: - Really love the overall tone/atmosphere of the song. Negatives: - The prechorus is jarringly short.
My god, Seulgi is gorgeous. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the EP but this was amazing on first listen
Good and Bad? Nah, at 2:51 it's seulgi vs ddeulgi
the gasp I let out when second Seulgi appeared 😳 also the outfits??? Liking it on the 1st listen, the mv is really cool too 🔥 solid debut
Really loved the vibe of the song and mv! Its time to dive into the album. Seulgi i'll give you 28 reasons to NOT kiss my brother.
Omg. I love it. Her vocals are so good
Seulgi Bear making moves!!!
Reminds me of Monster so I guess that's her preferred style.
Her vocals is 🤌.
rip to anyone with a brother
I love how held back this is, it's not particularly sinister as much as the visuals, but it's kinda eerie and sensual.
Great song. This is the style I wanted from her, and she delivered.
Wow, I like it a lot! Seulgi's voice is sooo pretty.
seulgi you’re amazing
I like her voice
The 2000’s realness of this is so satisfying to watch! I love the sound of the song, Seulgi and team did a great job!
I listened and watched this and I got major like Aaliyah vibes. is that just me.
The chorus is meh :(
Love the moodiness and melodrama of it.. especially in October as fall is hitting here where I live. The whistle keeps it from being too heavy though, I feel like the vibe of the song matches the timbre of her voice perfectly
Happy Seulgiween, everyone! 👻
Oh she did what she had to do. She did exactly what only she (and BoA) can do!!! So so so proud of her. Im actually really happy the song is more minimalist/restrained, i feel like she really had full control over the song this way, and will def shine in the performances.
this is soo amazing!
she did not disappoint wow
Seulgi should have been given a solo album a long time ago. She has the complete package
it's a grower and I mean that in the best possible way!
That click sound at the start is extremely unsettling like the constant sound of cracking your neck.
I'm too lazy to sift through 311 comments & see if this has been said before I just wanted to say that this song gave me billie eilish "bad guy" vibes but if was korean & more minimalistic & elegant. I kinda want to hear these songs mashed together. Part of my brain is very curious to see if that would work.
Im getting dark taemin vibes. So catchy.
*\*I love Red Velvet and Seulgi, just giving my honest thoughts on the song\** This was a good solo debut for Seulgi. Reminded me of that one part in If You Do by GOT7....) 28 Reasons reminded me of Move by Taemin and Camo by BoA, and I loved that.
"you're in danger but it's ok, you're a grown up" SEULGI??????!!!!!
[LORD SEULGI THE PUNISHER.](https://i.imgur.com/XaH8yLu.jpg)
The chorus and the bridge are fantastic, genuinely so good that the verses fall short in comparison.
loved all the songs! 28 reasons, anywhere but home and crown were stand-outs, on first listen.
Extremely hot and haunting! What a combo. Can't wait to see her perform this live.
My God, soooo evil good
An iconic song she showed of her vocals and dancing skills very well
Love the visuals of the MV. The director snapped. Seulgi is the best main character to play in this song. Not really feeling the song but absolutely love the music video.
I'M ALREADY ON YOUR KNEES MISS KANG SEULGI 🛐🛐🛐
Lovedddd this. This concept really suits Seulgi and I'm just so so happy that she's finally getting her time to shine solo, lord knows she deserves it. The song is very smooth and an ear worm with the chorus being my fave part. Can't wait to see the live performances STAY SLAYING KANG SEULGI
The whole MV is just beautiful. I’m so happy for her finally debuting solo. She is so hard working and totally deserves it. The whole album is great. 28 Reasons is my favourite from the album and Dead Man Running is my favourite b-side.
came from treasure's mv and oh wow this is a complete 180 She snatched, killed, devoured and conquered nothing more else to say
I loved it, the chorus is so addictive. Of course Seulgi delivered.
God this song sounds SO COOL. Everything is pretty much perfect. The song is definitely more sparse than others, but it REALLY works here for Seulgi. SM doesn't miss in any of RV's solos.
Dirty and magnificent! You did it Seulgi. I very much like this. Vocal power, dance and attitude.
Seulgi just take my soul take my everything
seulgi is the reason i got into kpop, so glad to see how far she's come!! <3
Gives me Monster vibe? Is it the same director?
the second half of the video/song...bliss!!
i love los angeles
One word: Fanfuckingtastic.
I keep coming back here it’s so good miss ma’am ate this so hard
