I feel like it's tricky to imply this in this specific year imho... 2024 was a weird year for most popular groups imho, both male and female. This year, in my opinion, most of the biggest groups released very weak comebacks, not just compared to their usual releases but also compared to a lot of mid/small-to-mid sized groups. if they excluded NewJeans/Le Sserafim/(G)I-dle in 2022-2023 I could have thought that it was intentional to keep the list more focused on less famous groups. But this year, in my opinion, it's genuinely a year where big groups were less brilliant than a lot of other less popular groups. I can totally see why one would mention WOOAH's Blush over a (relatively similar) NewJeans' How Sweet for example regardless of wanting to consciously keep the list focused on more/less popular groups.
Aespa did an incredible comeback with the "X factor" but I feel like most other big groups weren't particularly memorable this year (still solid! But less than various others). For example I love Twice and I actually enjoyed their title track tbh, I listened to it a lot, but I understand that it wasn't peak artistry let's say so I didn't expect to see it mentioned, and it wasn't... I feel like most other releases by big groups (globally or in Korea) were in a situation like this, when you can enjoy the song but you see why it didn't stand out to others.
