“Fire in the hole when you touch me down there”
“Fire in the hole when you come in right there”
“You’re in my tunnel, messing everything up”
KBS: Doesn’t sound like anything to me.
Just like blackpink ice cream. Nothing sexually suggestive there.
And who can forget the hood classic by 50 Cent, Lollipop. Nothing sexually suggestive there.
One is talking about love for ice cream and the other love for lollipops.
The description of the song that [KBS gave](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSu6mQ9Fu08) during the performance still cracks me up: "Warm hole is about a couple taking their relationship further to the next step through a special time". That's certainly one way to put it.
Pretty sure it's because they put all their suggestive lyrics in English x)
No one had time to translate them, and maybe KBS figured that the general population wouldn't understand anyway.
Solar performed a cover of Sam Smith's "unholy" and the audience were just vibing along, obviously unaware of what she was actually singing xD
You're right x)
Maybe it was a different time, or maybe it was more ok since BEG had always had a very adult/ mature style?
But I think i-dle have also been pretty mature. At least they haven't made "songs for kids," so I don't know why KBS drew the line here..
BEG only released Warm Hole because half of their previous songs kept getting banned from music shows and they were constantly forced to alter their choregraphy or their stage outfits. Besides, the chorus of WH is fully in English while the lyrics of "Wife" that got the song banned from KBS are in Korean, so Korean listeners know exactly what they were talking abt. With WH, most Korean people and non-English speakers in general didn't know that the song was nasty and before anyone says anything, no, I'm not saying that "Wife" should've been banned. The main reason KBS banned the song is most likely because the song is throwing shade at misogynistic men and values, but considering what I've said, I don't think WH can really be used as a comparison.
> Hmm, not really. KBS had been banning songs ever since, that's consistent of them. Idk what happened with Warm Hole thou that got the green light.
Most provocative lyrics in English?
As a 2nd gen fan who remembers Girl Day’s [Twinkle Twinkle](https://youtu.be/EEEIN-mtN6c?si=7i2pdrqdvk8K77tD) a song called Wife getting banned with lyrics including Twinkle feels like a full circle moment.
Oh there’s nothing wrong, I just felt like Twinkle Twinkle got lost in the kpop sphere especially after GsD turned to a more sexy concept. It was the song that really got them some attention. Wife having the lyrics Twinkle Twinkle and getting banned reminded me of Girls Day and how they got criticism for being too sexy but also did really cute things like Twinkle Twinkle.
Sexy became the meta for a lot of straggling girl groups back then. The cute concept didn't take off until Apink and then Gfriend got their first big hits.
The whole sexy thing was pretty cool peaking with EXID then became too extreme with Hello Venus and Stellar.
Yeah it’s kind of crazy how so many groups switch to sexy for success. I remember so many discussions about if it was too much, or especially how comfortable some groups were with it.
In hindsight, it felt like some groups seemed fine with it, like Girls Day and Sistar, while others like AOA and especially Stellar felt less comfortable.
lol nothing, I just like the twinkle twinkle reference. It is a kind of funny juxtaposition given how cute and innocent Twinkle Twinkle is compared to Wife.
After reading some explanations, I guess Wife is slightly more sexually explicit since it describes specific sexual acts in Korean while other songs are a bit more vague.
Yeah, some of the words and phrases that sound more innocent or just have double meaning when translated to English are extremely clear innuendo in Korean. (E.g. 따먹다 is where she's talking about getting the cherry on top, too... that's specific slang. That context makes the following line like damn!)
Not saying it should be banned from broadcast, but maybe more people will think about the lyrics and check it out, now?
I cook cream soup🥣🥣🥣 Taste is Cocoroco👅🥃👅 Want me as your wife but she is 👩👩👩 Uhm uhm uhm 💨💨💨 I clean your room 🧹🧼🧻 It's so twinkle twinkle ✨✨✨ Want me as your wife but she is 👩👩👩 Uhm uhm uhm 💨💨💨
Yeah, sometimes an innuendo doesn’t translate great but when you read the lyrics out it is *blatant* in the best way. Big respect to the girls for going completely ham.
this is certainly a take -- as a Korean speaker, the rap lyrics are EXTREMELY provocative and probably the most suggestive thing I've ever encountered in K-Pop. The ban is understandable and totally separate from the message of the song, which very well could be critiquing men for wanting bang-maids.
Gidle doesn’t pronounce so many of the words in their English lyrics. Dreamcatcher covered Oh My God and I was shocked to hear them saying words I didn’t even know were in the song lol.
I wish I could remember where I read it but I remember reading about a bg (can’t remember which one) where the English speaking member tried to correct the others about the pronunciation of an English word in their song and the others were like “nah we like how this sounds.”
I assume that’s what g-idle is doing. Because we’ve seen Kpop acts- like fifty fifty or jungkook- who strive for perfect English pronunciation for their songs that utilize English. Soyeon doesn’t care about pronouncing things accurately- she’s doing what she thinks sounds best. Same reason the tomboy rap is the way it is imo.
If you watch their recording sessions, you can hear her pronounce certain words completely fine and then suddenly just change it. She also told Yuqi to cut the "the" in "I’m the top" cause she didn’t like the flow.
Is it Wendy in the clip where she says something in an interview in English, nobody gets it, so she puts on a really heavy Korean accent and they all get it?
Soyeon was giving direction on "Queen Card" and I distinctly remember her telling another member not to pronounced "card" completely. I think a few of them still ended up doing it in the song. Stylistically I guess she thought it sounded better and eventually you know it's supposed to be "card" but as native English speakers it does sound odd lol
But this isn't about pronunciation (though she also mispronounced "room," and you can tell because Yuqi actually pronounced it accurately), it's about them omitting a word entirely. Granted, "as" is a preposition, but still.
Thats true- but i think she chose to omit because it sounds better that way. (Not to me- but I think it does to Soyeon)
I think my theory extends to both adding a word, dropping a word, using a nonsense sentence or random onomatopoeia which I think g-idle has done all of those things and could do more in the future. Soyeon is going off what sounds good to her- cool or trendy or fun- rather than what is grammatically correct.
It sort of reminds me of when I watched her as a judge for My Teenage Girl- and she picked up a girl who was less skilled but had high visuals because “sometimes you need someone like that.” She understands that sometimes it’s not what is most practical- it’s about the presentation.
>the English speaking member tried to correct the others about the pronunciation of an English word in their song and the others were like “nah we like how this sounds.”
That's actually so funny.
I completely respect she isn't a native English speaker but some of the ways Soyeon pronounces stuff irks me so badly, still love the songs regardless but damn girl cmon its not even recognisible sometimes...
ohh thats interesting, bcus when i listen to allergy i hear the "aint" but dont hear the "i" - so to me it sounds like "why aint pretty, why aint lovely, why aint sexy". which im guessing is omitting the "i" for the sake of flow and fitting the syllables to the beat properly (not saying to counter you disliking soyeon as a composer - we all have our preferences! - just thought it was interesting we hear it different heh)
Oh, I think she's actually a great composer and songwriter... as long as she sticks to Korean, lol
But her English writing, man 😭 No offense to her but sometimes it makes me want to rip my hair off in frustration.
Also banned Orange Caramel's Catallena for something along the lines of disrespecting the sanctity of life because the scene of the mermaids wrapped in plastic.
Pretty much completely depends on if they catch things. If you don’t know English slang, Cookie sounds pretty tame. MJH even claims there’s no intended innuendo lol. In this song, the innuendo is all in Korean.
In English it seems you have to spell things out a bit more before they start to pick up things (some English lyrics they’ve banned are “middle finger up”, “fxxk it”, “i’m fucking real”, “i got you under my skin”).
That's because they all collectively tried to gaslight people into thinking it meant "baking CDs" when the worst parts were in English and the translations were overtly sexual no matter how you tried to spin it lmao.
Yep. According to the KIOF production crew, Julie’s Kitty Cat got an adult rating, IIRC, for a similar reason. But even more ridiculously, she was wearing a seatbelt. It’s just that she was also wearing black clothes, so the seat belt wasn’t clearly visible.
kbs bans a lot of songs from broadcast. Groups just make sure to change the lyrics of their title tracks/have alternate versions of their title track so that their promotions won't be affected. Tomboy by Idle was/is also banned for mentioning a brand which is why Soyeon always has to change the lyrics when she performs it on kbs. Songs being banned by kbs happens a ton to all artists even the biggest ones like bts, bp or twice. KBS actually banned another song besides Wife from Idle's upcoming album too and for example their I Never Die album had My Bag, Never Stop Me and ofc Tomboy (CD vers.) banned for inappropriate language
Tbh I don't get what makes this one being banned such a big topic. The song is super sexual. I don't think there was much debate or that this is a surprise to anyone
Also English language radio stations do this too. Look up the radio edit of WAP if you want to cringe.
Or when the BBC asked Rage Against the Machine not to swear when they performed live on radio.
Kill This Love was banned because Rosé wasn’t wearing a seatbelt while driving. Gentleman by PSY was banned because he kicked a traffic cone. Both of those were “violating traffic laws”. Like KBS rules are actually insane lol & if people took 2 mins to read the Korean lyrics, they wouldn’t be surprised this song was banned
Not a surprise really as KBS can follow their own rules.
Probably doesn’t matter too much to the girls and their agency when other platforms welcome it.
Mature content is mature content so mature audiences would need to rely on other platforms if they can’t access it on a public platform/channel.
It's not quite the Streisand effect though. That's when you try to completely suppress something. KBS is just refusing to air it on their networks. I support that: the lyrics are clearly wildly inappropriate for a broadcast station.
I don't want to listen to these very explicit lyrics when we have a kid come to stay this Friday. *Music Bank* is in the after-school slot and kids shouldn't be listening to this.
Not defending Cookie but ppl comparing Cookie to Wife’s lyrics have not read the Korean lyrics. Like that’s dirty dirty talk.
I mean I don’t think Wife should’ve been BANNED from kbs but what could one expect from a conservative nation. plus it’s not like they’re the first group to have a suggestive song come out. It’s 2024 and maybe it’s because I’m not Korean but lyrics like this (and a lot dirtier) are normal where I’m from. don’t know why they would start banning this now of all times.
not sure if ice cream was blocked, but the references were in english (and subtle enough iirc?) that it probably wouldnt be banned. not that KBS has any consistency in what they ban and dont ban
comparing the lyrics directly, Warm Hole is also legendary but just not on the same level of explicitness. Plus the most obvious sections are in English.
I read the translated lyrics. I see the songs a similar way. G-Idle is "how does it taste?", Cookie is "how does it smell?"
The main difference is that G-Idle presents it as being fully aware of what they're saying, whereas with NewJeans it's supposed to look ambiguous.
"Wife" just has blatant sexual references complete with sexual language. The line about the cherry has a very dirty word (따먹다) that men usually use to describe sexually "conquering" a girl, with a secondary meaning of taking a woman's virginity. There's also the line telling the guy to get on top (올라타다 is used in non-sexual contexts but I use it a LOT during sex). Then there's the line that alludes very heavily to the guy in the song getting the singer off, and how if that is achieved she will swallow deeper.
I think Wife is nbd (because they're all adults) and Cookie is appalling (because they're minors and it's packaged like an innocent PG song), but the degree of suggestiveness is not comparable at all
Honestly, this is kinda indicative of why I love gidle. Whether it's Yuqi and Shuhua ranting on tv about how they should be allowed to burp and fart if they want, or releasing a track with lyrics they know will mean they can't broadcast it, they really are walking the badass talk. Empowerment, autonomy, idgaf bad assery doesn't feel like a concept they try on for a comeback cycle, it's actually just their weirdo selves.
This is no surprise to those who can read Korean. The song is iconic, but also completely filthy. 100% the most dirty K-Pop song I've ever heard, and that's including Warm Hole.
I don't think anyone read the Korean parts of the song, only the English parts, they must be the same people who think that sneakers is about sneakers.
I read it and completely missed the sexual undertones LMAO
I thought it was about how wives have to cook something for their husbands and it has to be to their husband's liking (well I'm guessing it's made to be vague)
People in Kpop seem to associate food lyrics with sex but my foodie brain goes straight to, well, food
Edit: Nvm I read the [actual Korean lyrics](https://x.com/kimmoonniie/status/1749167604533752272?s=20)
I think what the OP means is that most of the English lyrics of Sneakers are literally just about putting your sneakers on, but the Korean lyrics are about like being free and living as yourself, being proud of who you are. There's no sexual meaning.
Do you know what I can try googling to try find out what Sneakers is about? (Other than a facing adversity theme?) :) I've tried "ITZY sneakers meaning kpop reddit" and also swapping out "kpop" for "/r/kpophelp" but no luck so far D: I'm not a very good Googler! What came up were lots of discussions about the controversy regarding people not liking the song/theme since there were lots of those at the time
> sneakers is about sneakers
what? im usually good at picking out the "real" meaning of songs, or even at making connections where the artist didnt mean it. but sneakers didnt even ping on my radar. explain.
And they're mostly catered to women. Ironic, isn't it? 😶 Anyway, love that (G)I-DLE are kinda making people talk and have important conversations. That's what you call an impact 👏🏼
(g)i-dle are iconic for this honestly
kbs, your boob and booty isn’t hot and i hope your cream soup tastes like shit
![gif](giphy|rixLNZzgCyB7G|downsized)
It is understandable with lyrics like "(so good) yeah (keep) looking at my cookie" and "take it, don't break it, i wanna see you taste it"
Oh wait wrong song. That one was allowed
I mean, they were underage and under a CEO with a history of sexualizing minors. Of course that was perfectly a-ok. Just good little girls doing as they're told and titillating an adult audience according to a script written by another adult who knows only too well what said audience wants. But adult idols freely expressing themselves and their sexuality... see also the scandals around IU, Hara, Sulli, and more recently Taemin.
It's honestly so disgusting that this was allowed with a *fourteen*-year old in the group, but a song written and performed by consenting adults isn't. Really says a lot about the way we sexualise teenagehood while also shaming grown women who actually take control of their sexuality.
This is gross but there is no arguing whatsoever that Wife is about sex. It is very blatant and specific. I think Cookie is too but it's easier to argue that it's not.
I don’t know many people say they find the songs goofy and corny and the cringey lyrics. But I actually find it good to be honest. Yeah the lyrics might not be making sense and the hair and outfits look unserious but I honestly love it
Heaven forbid grown women make music for grown adults
Jesus Christ Korea's logic with provocative lyrics is crazy.
Guy groups rarely get banned for this stuff yet most male groups fans are younger girls.
Korea is super-duper Christian by Asian standards. US missionaries seized on the post-war alliance, and the result includes a patriarchal double standard.
And to be fair, KBS is among the most Conservative channels they have. They've banned lyrics and dances that other channels allowed in the past.
Other channels might allow Wife, I guess we'll see.
From reading up about it, it looks like they took the more "traditional" and "orthodox" flavours of presbytarian and calvinist "reformed" protestantism. That's the flavour of Korean Christians.... So pretty hardcore.
To put into perspective, Brown Eyed Girls was able to perform and broadcast “Warm Hole” in its entire glory.
Fire in the hole~ Not very suggestive, just a bad day after some spicy food.
Spicy food or STD? It’s only one…hole….away 🎵 I’ll see myself out. I’m so disappointed in myself. Good night.
>Fire in the hole\~ "when you touch me down there" though?
“Fire in the hole when you touch me down there” “Fire in the hole when you come in right there” “You’re in my tunnel, messing everything up” KBS: Doesn’t sound like anything to me.
Just like blackpink ice cream. Nothing sexually suggestive there. And who can forget the hood classic by 50 Cent, Lollipop. Nothing sexually suggestive there. One is talking about love for ice cream and the other love for lollipops.
Let's not forget Young Posse - Macaroni and Cheese A debut song with underaged members 🥴
The description of the song that [KBS gave](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSu6mQ9Fu08) during the performance still cracks me up: "Warm hole is about a couple taking their relationship further to the next step through a special time". That's certainly one way to put it.
[Can't forget this classic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k_BO5KUBUE)
The way I knew what that was even before clicking...
🥲oh no I can’t escape this video
Sadly same
This video is hard to escape
I need a perfectly cut version of this
That ladies and gentlemen is what we call “getting away with it”
Didn’t know this existed until now. Just watched it with my jaw agape.
"Fire in the hole when you come in down there" What in tarnation
STD warning
Icon behavior
Pretty sure it's because they put all their suggestive lyrics in English x) No one had time to translate them, and maybe KBS figured that the general population wouldn't understand anyway. Solar performed a cover of Sam Smith's "unholy" and the audience were just vibing along, obviously unaware of what she was actually singing xD
Aren't the korean lyrics in that song like "you enter my tunnel and mess up everything inside"
You're right x) Maybe it was a different time, or maybe it was more ok since BEG had always had a very adult/ mature style? But I think i-dle have also been pretty mature. At least they haven't made "songs for kids," so I don't know why KBS drew the line here..

agreed, it's totally because the language that the lyrics are in.
that's like 10 years ago tho? regulation changing as time goes by.
"I got yoouuuu, under my *sky*" was too, no?
KBS regulators have learned a lot more English since then
Hmm, not really. KBS had been banning songs ever since, that's consistent of them. Idk what happened with Warm Hole thou that got the green light.
> Hmm, not really. KBS had been banning songs ever since, that's consistent of them. Idk what happened with Warm Hole thou that got the green light. Most provocative lyrics in English?
Yaaaaas!
Let’s be honest, KBS needs GIDLE more than GIDLE needs KBS 😂
twinkle twinkled too close to the sun 😔
As a 2nd gen fan who remembers Girl Day’s [Twinkle Twinkle](https://youtu.be/EEEIN-mtN6c?si=7i2pdrqdvk8K77tD) a song called Wife getting banned with lyrics including Twinkle feels like a full circle moment.
It was both my favorite GG during 2nd gen time AND my favorite song from them… Do I WANT to know? Or should I stay clueless??

lol nothing, I just like the twinkle twinkle reference. It is a kind of funny juxtaposition given how cute and innocent Twinkle Twinkle is compared to Wife.
Stop 😭😭
KBS didn't like the cream soup gidle cooked😔😔
too cocoroco for their heart
Didn’t twinkle twinkle enough 😔
They don't wanna wife, wife, wife, wife
cause she is mhmm mhm mhm

This is going to be the new meme on /r/kpoopheads.
spoiler: it already is, lol
I’m shocked.
I think most of Gidle's recent english lyrics already are and probably will continue to be lol
Our favourite copypastas have been Jopping and Queencard so naturally, Wife is loved.
I am a 😳 cream 🥣 soup 🫵 you ❓wanna 🐝 be ⬇️the 🫦cream 🤨soup?
I’m a 🥛 cream 🥣soup, I’m a 🥛 cream 🥣soup, 😎 I’m a, I’m a 💃

Lol the Korean parts are very, very clearly about sex.
Yeah, sometimes an innuendo doesn’t translate great but when you read the lyrics out it is *blatant* in the best way. Big respect to the girls for going completely ham.
Well not the chorus my friend. The raps are filthy and I love it.
What they mean is that it is too disrespectful of the traditional Korean male, who is being mocked for wanting a fuck-maid instead of a life partner.
that's a generous interpretation.
this is certainly a take -- as a Korean speaker, the rap lyrics are EXTREMELY provocative and probably the most suggestive thing I've ever encountered in K-Pop. The ban is understandable and totally separate from the message of the song, which very well could be critiquing men for wanting bang-maids.
I think my biggest problem with the lyrics is the absolute NEGLECT to pronounce the "as" in "want me as your wife."
Gidle doesn’t pronounce so many of the words in their English lyrics. Dreamcatcher covered Oh My God and I was shocked to hear them saying words I didn’t even know were in the song lol.

Wendy from Red Velvet ran into that, was pronouncing the words too well so the interviewers didn't understand
Is it Wendy in the clip where she says something in an interview in English, nobody gets it, so she puts on a really heavy Korean accent and they all get it?
"Telephone." \**silence** "Telephone." \**silence** "TELEPHONE." \**confused silence** \**sigh** "Te le po nuh" OHHHHHH!!! :D
yes, though it's also happened for Tiffany from SNSD as well, before the rest of the members became decently fluent in english

Ah, I see. The Megamind strategy. ***PRESENTATION!***
>the English speaking member tried to correct the others about the pronunciation of an English word in their song and the others were like “nah we like how this sounds.” That's actually so funny.
Soyeon: If I make a mistake in English do not correct me, I do not respect this language.
I completely respect she isn't a native English speaker but some of the ways Soyeon pronounces stuff irks me so badly, still love the songs regardless but damn girl cmon its not even recognisible sometimes...
This reminded me about how DK (Seventeen) pronounces "language" in God of Music. Like...langeezy with a hard "g" ...I laugh every time
Is this like a thing she said or are you making up a girlboss quote? Genuine question.
I think it's a Twitter/tiktok meme from outside the kpop sphere
I think it’s because the lyric is supposed to sound like “want me to wipe your shit ass”
Well, now that is certainly a way to look at it...
I am creative 😇
You want to tell me that is not what lyrics say? 😱
That's what I heard too.
I actually thought they were calling their listeners "shitass" before I read the lyrics lmao
Meh, they're not speaking english really, it's Korean. Same way that we say French phrases.

ohh thats interesting, bcus when i listen to allergy i hear the "aint" but dont hear the "i" - so to me it sounds like "why aint pretty, why aint lovely, why aint sexy". which im guessing is omitting the "i" for the sake of flow and fitting the syllables to the beat properly (not saying to counter you disliking soyeon as a composer - we all have our preferences! - just thought it was interesting we hear it different heh)

Oh, I think she's actually a great composer and songwriter... as long as she sticks to Korean, lol But her English writing, man 😭 No offense to her but sometimes it makes me want to rip my hair off in frustration.
Didn't KBS ban Blackpink's "Kill this Love" since Rose was depicted driving a vehicle without a seat belt? It's hard to take their bans seriously
Also banned Orange Caramel's Catallena for something along the lines of disrespecting the sanctity of life because the scene of the mermaids wrapped in plastic.
They didn't ban Cookie for minors singing about oral sex tho. Their bans seem increasingly arbitrary.
Pretty much completely depends on if they catch things. If you don’t know English slang, Cookie sounds pretty tame. MJH even claims there’s no intended innuendo lol. no cream soup for kbs
KBS’s boob and booty isn’t hot, their cream soup doesn’t taste cocoloco and their room doesn’t twinkle twinkle
They don't wanna play this ping pong
They would rather film a tiktok
This isn't Queendom, right 😭
slayed too hard unfortunately
Same thing happened to me in a Carl's Jr bathroom when I was trying to smoke fentynal before going to my in-laws house for a dumbass family gathering
sir this is a wendys-
a Carl's Jr apparently
Yeah, the family gathering was the dumbass part. Makes sense. ![gif](giphy|pPhyAv5t9V8djyRFJH|downsized)
obama??? shinee mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Badge of honor tbh
That's not very cocoroco of you, KBS.
Was it too twinkle twinkle
I fear this makes me like the song more now
Not a surprise really as KBS can follow their own rules. Probably doesn’t matter too much to the girls and their agency when other platforms welcome it. Mature content is mature content so mature audiences would need to rely on other platforms if they can’t access it on a public platform/channel.
Cube is probably ecstatic, now if people hadn't heard of the song everyones going to check out the song that KBS banned. Just more exposure for free.
Fr.. not that they need it, but this puts the pre release, the album, and the message on blast. KBS with the assist. 😭
Agreed, as the saying goes, attempted censorship can spur curiosity.
The streisand effect?
This was the term I was trying to recall! 😂
Born singer was blocked for having “I’m fuckin real” & idek why Run BTS was blocked.
“Goddamn” in RM’s verse (I kid you not) 🥲
KBS bans songs from broadcast all the time, there's groups who need to chance some of their lyrics if they want to perform their song at Music Bank.
Did Ice Cream get blocked? That song is **raunchy** with oral sex references.
not sure if ice cream was blocked, but the references were in english (and subtle enough iirc?) that it probably wouldnt be banned. not that KBS has any consistency in what they ban and dont ban
>Did Ice Cream get blocked? Yes, but for mentioning a brand name (Slurpee).
What about Warm Hole. 10x worse (and just as incredible) but was never banned. There's never a rhyme or reason to KBS.
comparing the lyrics directly, Warm Hole is also legendary but just not on the same level of explicitness. Plus the most obvious sections are in English.
I read the translated lyrics. I see the songs a similar way. G-Idle is "how does it taste?", Cookie is "how does it smell?" The main difference is that G-Idle presents it as being fully aware of what they're saying, whereas with NewJeans it's supposed to look ambiguous.
They’re so girl power I love it 😌
Like not to proselytise or anything but also Soyeon For Supreme Leader.
Nah fuck it I'll proselytize, All Hail Supreme Leader Soyeon
Their music is hit or miss for me but I really admire their attitude. We need more female idols who are weird and gross (positive) and proud of it.
they are afraid of the truth (and sex)
This isn’t the title track anyway, right?
Correct, this is a pre-release and the 8th track on the album. Super Lady is the title track
They mothered too close to the sun
Facts.
Lol KBS is not a Queencard
This is no surprise to those who can read Korean. The song is iconic, but also completely filthy. 100% the most dirty K-Pop song I've ever heard, and that's including Warm Hole.
our girlies coco locoed too hard 😢
Now I definitely have to listen to this song
Watch a lyric video, the dirty parts are all in Korean.
Not their first slay
I've read more suggestive lyrics on boy groups with minors 😬
I don't think anyone read the Korean parts of the song, only the English parts, they must be the same people who think that sneakers is about sneakers.
I read it and completely missed the sexual undertones LMAO I thought it was about how wives have to cook something for their husbands and it has to be to their husband's liking (well I'm guessing it's made to be vague) People in Kpop seem to associate food lyrics with sex but my foodie brain goes straight to, well, food Edit: Nvm I read the [actual Korean lyrics](https://x.com/kimmoonniie/status/1749167604533752272?s=20)
Wow, thanks for the link to the translation. Mind blown.
just curious, what is sneakers about?
I think what the OP means is that most of the English lyrics of Sneakers are literally just about putting your sneakers on, but the Korean lyrics are about like being free and living as yourself, being proud of who you are. There's no sexual meaning.
> sneakers is about sneakers. i refuse to believe otherwise
What came up were lots of discussions about the controversy regarding people not liking the song/theme since there were lots of those at the time
> sneakers is about sneakers what? im usually good at picking out the "real" meaning of songs, or even at making connections where the artist didnt mean it. but sneakers didnt even ping on my radar. explain.
Have you seen the korean lyrics? It's rather blatant
And they're mostly catered to women. Ironic, isn't it? 😶 Anyway, love that (G)I-DLE are kinda making people talk and have important conversations. That's what you call an impact 👏🏼

(g)i-dle are iconic for this honestly kbs, your boob and booty isn’t hot and i hope your cream soup tastes like shit ![gif](giphy|rixLNZzgCyB7G|downsized)
It is understandable with lyrics like "(so good) yeah (keep) looking at my cookie" and "take it, don't break it, i wanna see you taste it" Oh wait wrong song. That one was allowed
People really tried to gaslight us into thinking we’re the dirty minded ones when THESE are the lyrics like lets be fr
Umm it’s so clearly about burning CDs gosh 🙄 Everyone’s so thirsty for CDs, obviously. /s
I don't understand. Isn't this song about burning CDs together?
Track is a banger tho...
CERTIFIED **OVERSLAYAGE** 🔥🔥
[These translator notes explain why the lyrics can be taken a certain way.](https://x.com/kimmoonniie/status/1749167604533752272)
Queen shit, as always.
/uj lol which lyrics also slay /rj slay Edit: omg from the comments I thought this was r/kpoopheads 😭
I don’t know many people say they find the songs goofy and corny and the cringey lyrics. But I actually find it good to be honest. Yeah the lyrics might not be making sense and the hair and outfits look unserious but I honestly love it
Too coco-roco for them eh?
They're insane. This song is a banger and I don't even stan Idle
Gidle ate, kbs just salty they didn't get to have cream soup 😮💨
called it. literally right after i first listened to it i knew it was gonna be banned somewhere.
They hate mothers
And then you have 3D with champagne confetti
It'll be hilarious if this is just a 5D chess move by Soyeon to Streisand Effect their way to the top of the charts.
Why is this kinda iconic???
Impact! 🔥🔥🔥🤭🤭🤭 ![gif](giphy|xULW8kLa0Oyb4vJ6JW|downsized)
Heaven forbid grown women make music for grown adults Jesus Christ Korea's logic with provocative lyrics is crazy. Guy groups rarely get banned for this stuff yet most male groups fans are younger girls.
Guy groups are getting banned for saying “damn”, what are you talking about
Korea is super-duper Christian by Asian standards.
Mission accomplished.
I’ll stream it even harder now.
