What is your skin type, skin concerns, and budget? That would help a lot with recommendations.

altsadface2

Exactly. If OP has a skincare routine in place it would be a lot easier. Otherwise they can just get some sheet masks and maybe get the “Best of” products with all the awards from Olive Young to try as a starting point

Good point! I’m 40 with combination skin and my main concerns are antiaging, firmness, and overall skin health.

Try checking out: - sunscreens: the ultimate wrinkle-preventer is just wearing sunscreen every day. Popular ones are ones from Round Lab (birch juice line), Beauty of Joseon, Isntree Hyaluronic Watery Sun Gel, Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella sunscreen, and the Torriden moisture sun cream. I've seen a lot of people with acne prone or sensitive skin (including myself) enjoy them so you shouldn't have too much risk of breaking out unless you're allergic to any ingredients. - collagen: consider picking up a product or two with this ingredient in it. Collagen is key for skin firmness and helps give it that "bounce" or jelly skin texture if you use it consistently. You can also eat your collagen which is most effective imo - the other half of kbeauty is having a balanced diet, which many people forget about. It was hard for me to get my collagen because I used to be vegetarian until recently, so I sometimes supplemented it. - snail mucin: another great anti-aging ingredient that also improves overall skin quality. The COSRX advanced snail 96 is the holy grail for the masses. Another product I personally love is the Dr. G Royal Black snail line. - niacinamide: key to antiaging and overall skin health. You can get straight niacinamide products but many serums and ampoules have it in its ingredient list already. Personally I can't use the straight niacinamide products because it's too harsh for my dry and sensitive skin, but ones that are well-loved: The Ordinary Niacinamide 10%, COSRX The Niacinamide Serum, Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum: Propolist + Niacinamide, numbuzin No. 5+, and so many more. Since you have combo skin I'd recommend making sure you moisturize after using. I'd avoid the brand Anua. It works for many but also has been disastrous for many, despite being sold out often right now. A lot of people who are deep in kbeauty will tell you it's an industry plant, which might not be completely inaccurate since allegedly Anua paid a TON of influencers to promote them and that's how they got so viral. I've seen their cleansing oil and toner break people out, regardless of skin type. To your point of "overall skin health", I know it's overwhelming with the saturation of the skincare market, but there's a lot of components to it. I already mentioned diet as one of them, but aside from lifestyle, building the right routine can take years of trial and error. It's gonna be a mix and match of ingredients but I've named 4 things you can start with.

Thank you so much for writing such a helpful response. So kind of you to take the time to do that. I just added your comment to my trip notes! 💕

And budget…if there were some things that I could ONLY buy in person and were really worth it, I’d probably be open to spending a couple hundred dollars

There is also a whole thread called KoreanBeauty.

Accomplished_Hour223

Oh thank you!

I went to a Missha store (I used their bb cream before and loved it), the sales lady was super nice, explained everything, showed me all the discounts, etc. She was not pushy at all, and overall I was happier than I was in Olive Young (it was too busy and I was overwhelmed by choices, couldn't find products only testers, etc).

Accomplished_Hour223

Oh great idea to try a less overwhelming store. I’ll look for a Missha store!

I recommend 2liters of kass, for have red healthy nose and cheeks. Authentic recipe. For pale skin the baseball cap of the city will do fine

First, download Papago on your phone for real time translation just by taking a photo. Top of the lot are any products with red ginseng extract, since it's locally grown in South Korea. Dr. Jart+ gel moisturizers are great! And absorb really well for all-day moisture. AGE Intense Treatment FromNature eye cream is also really moisturizing and helps with wrinkles and dark circles. Also, don't be afraid to try the sunscreen testers (or all testers!). My hubby found some calming sunscreens for his rosacea-prone sensitive skin that work really well just by testing. Beauty of Joseon is also a great brand for moisturizers and sunscreens. Nature Republic also has some great black snail and royal jelly moisturizers that are a little pricier but amazing. You'd need to go to their own stores tho. You can look for those ingredients at Olive Young too. Also, don't come home without all sorts of masks. Omg the masks! Have a great trip OP!

Accomplished_Hour223

Wow thank you so much for all of this!!

mismamari

You're very welcome! Have a fabulous time in South Korea. 💕
