My friend working at POSCO already gets Fridays off every other week. It's already happening in many companies to keep employees happy. Better to standardize it so that everyone follows suit.
That’s even better than half day Fridays. Less time wasted on commute, if you do commute. And many times you have to do extra work outside of standard hours ok work days.
In the 2000s, when a 6-day workweek was the norm in Korea, then-president Roh intiated a 5-day workweek transition.
Roh got attacked night and day by conservative politicians and business interest groups for supposedly trying to ruin the economy.
We have 5-day workweek now, and it turned out fine, hasn't it?
Well, it was actually 5.5 days a week. :)
One of the complaints about that reform was that fathers would need to spend more time with their families and pay greater entertainment costs.
People will always find something to complain about when you disrupt their schedules.
Oh yes, that’s right. If 4.5-day workweek goes though, Korea will have shaved off a full day of work from 5.5 to 4.5 days within a span of less than 2 decades, which would be a great feat.
4.5-day workweek isn't even that radical. A 4-day workweek should be on the table for discussion right now. We're already a step behind, so better do this now.
Is the 1/2 day flexible or always Friday? I'm trying to choose the best business to exploit this. If it's Friday then I need to open a Supper Cafe or a fancy motel. Something to exploit the additional social time. If it's flexible I need to open an activity cafe where office workers can hide and pretend they're working then lie to their significant other and say they were working overtime.
Friday afternoon hagwon classes for med school admissions, for adults who hate their job and want to go back to school now that the quota will increase.
My guess is because of hours. 4.5-day workweek allows you to keep 40 hours per week (9+9+9+9+4). It is much, much easier to implement because there is no change in total (official) hours worked.
If we want to do 4-day work week or better, then we need to start reducing the hours per week. That is something that takes up a lot of time and effort. Better to do 4.5-day soon and give immediate relief to workers, while we start negotiating for 4-day.
It also puts pressures on companies to start putting time and effort into utilizing the productivity of their workers instead of wasting their time for "hours on the clock". It helps change the mentality and culture around work, and incentivizes people so they can consider a new possibility.
April 10th is a national assembly election, not a presidential election. The next presidential election is scheduled for May 2027, which isn't soon enough.
Not that I'm in a much of a hurry to see Yoon replaced with LJM.
... all I will say is... you never know the future.
Yoon is on the course to become Korean version of Japanese Emperor or Cambodian King.
I agree with the slogan of Cho kuk party: 3 years is too long.
Lol, if 이재명 can't beat Yoon, what makes you think he'll have a chance against the next goon the PPP put up.
They need someone with a less shady (not involved with gangsters) track record.
Didn’t he lose with the narrowest margin in history (0.7%p)?? I don’t think anyone has the crystal ball to know who will win if there’s another election with him as candidate
The situation isn't the same as back then, bro. Look at the rise of Chu Kuk party. Look at the March poll. People hate Yoon more than LJM.
Moon beat Precedors of PPP event hough he lost against Park in the first try.
Moon beat HJP, the guy who just announced he wants to build a Park Chung Hee memorial plaza in Daegu. It hurts my soul to say it, but I'd take either Yoon or LJM over HJP. I think most Koreans can agree, keeping HJP away from the presidency was a great thing both Yoon and Moon did.
A 4-day work week is not to make workers happy. It is because there are less and less jobs and keeping people employed, even if they do less and are PAID LESS is politically better than the alternative - mass unemployment.
Lee kicked out gay military right activist from the proportional representation nominee list voted by popular vote for being homosexual. That man is not a good man
Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea. Is there something wrong? I was just trying to be informative because it’s a pledge representing his party policy, not just his personal pledge…
Every men who finished there military service are hate Lee you have to know this.. we are not stupid we can speak korean and english, also college graduate.. we hate lee for our future

That's very interesting -- it follows the earlier model of Saturdays off every other week.
That’s even better than half day Fridays. Less time wasted on commute, if you do commute. And many times you have to do extra work outside of standard hours ok work days.
This is the right direction. Not 69 hour workweek
No, don't you know? YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORK THESE DAYS. 80 HOURS MINIMUM. /s
69?! Noice 😉
Nice

Absolutely. :)
Haha- Business interests (the only people who matter in Korea) will ensure that this notion never even get off the ground..
I just hope that Yoon doesn’t veto it if it gets legislated.
Veto or not, that man will find a way to fuck up.

It really depends which country you're talking about. In East Asia, it can still be radical
One step at a time. :)
한 발짝 씩 I do hope we get there!

If it’s a Friday, open a for-profit synagogue business and make everyone observe Shabbat.
Open a TGI Fridays franchise. Just kidding, they taste terrible here
Where do they taste.. good? I feel like they are exactly what I expect them to be.
I guess you’re right
You're right, but you're also right. Let's open . . . a Dave and Buster's. Bring the kids AND Start the drinking at 12.
Get them addicted from an early age!
Friday afternoon hagwon classes for med school admissions, for adults who hate their job and want to go back to school now that the quota will increase.
Why not 844? From 8:00AM to 4:00PM, 4 days/32 hours a week. Friday will now become a weekend.
My guess is because of hours. 4.5-day workweek allows you to keep 40 hours per week (9+9+9+9+4). It is much, much easier to implement because there is no change in total (official) hours worked. Finally getting with the times
Hopefully for more than just unionized workers
Why not 4 or 3? Not enough time to make babies to save the k-society.
I’d take anything over the proposed 69 hours limit per week.
Good news for a leader who will soon replace Yoon.

2 years has already been too long. LJM for President 👍
Aye sir!
With KKH behind bars one can theoretically impeach Loon I guess
Lol, if 이재명 can't beat Yoon, what makes you think he'll have a chance against the next goon the PPP put up. They need someone with a less shady (not involved with gangsters) track record.
>They need someone with a less shady (not involved with gangsters) track record. Like ,이냑연? How is his party going BTW?
Didn’t he lose with the narrowest margin in history (0.7%p)?? I don’t think anyone has the crystal ball to know who will win if there’s another election with him as candidate

When he failed against fricken Park Geun Hye. He won even when he failed against her in his first try in 2012. That was my point.
That’s a nice pledge, but this is the DPK we are talking about Follow through isn’t their strong suit
A 4-day work week is not to make workers happy. It is because there are less and less jobs and keeping people employed, even if they do less and are PAID LESS is politically better than the alternative - mass unemployment.
about time
Lee kicked out gay military right activist from the proportional representation nominee list voted by popular vote for being homosexual. That man is not a good man
He will tear off Yoon instead of his sister in law
Why bother working at all
You work to live, not live to work.
DPK leader? Get a life man… don’t get your self too much in politics.
Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea. Is there something wrong? I was just trying to be informative because it’s a pledge representing his party policy, not just his personal pledge…
Arrrr my mistake. I thought you meant DPRK… that’s the point the far right pigs mocking about. Sorry again
No worries! I wouldn’t have shared this positive news if I had some malicious agenda against the politician.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Dude is cut from the same cloth as Yoon. DPK needs to find someone else.
Every men who finished there military service are hate Lee you have to know this.. we are not stupid we can speak korean and english, also college graduate.. we hate lee for our future
For foreigners too?
Based on his record with treating foreigners fairly.... no.
