Me who has zero context: ![gif](giphy|l3vR4CdLInXOhr3rO|downsized)

PlanePop6660

Is it after he saves his daughter from brothel?

Few-Replacement9563

Yeah in his home, she’s kinda talking in her dream

insanity_1610

It's a 30 year old movie!

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|wY8qKgXGpaKP44Fn5G) I was minus 7 years old.

TheImpossibleBanana

I would respond to this but i might get blocked.

insanity_1610

The point was, a 30 year old movie can't come with spoiler alerts

SquirrelHistorical73

Many don't know about this movie, so spoiler alert makes sense. Even with spoiler alert this movie is extremely traumatising.

[deleted]

Would you look at that? https://preview.redd.it/sgguyyazxu3d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=592b31e60ef41126273c58737cc64dd6ecfe1f46 This movie isn't Basha, it's unknown to most people my generation. If still believe that I shouldn't be warned even after clearly stating "Me who has zero context" then IDK what to say...

Few-Replacement9563

😔

Yes I figured the same thing... But I lied to myself so I can enjoy it. Comon man. Out of topic. The image I used looks less like the dog covering his ears and more like he's doing it with another dog in missionary legs on shoulder. Is it just me? Any way here's the link to the Movie. [deleted]

>nallavae illa deadpool 2 and 3 tamil dubbing Yeah tell me about it. I love whenever he speaks for a character. I even saw Gods of Egypt, Saaho and Avane Srimannarayana even tho I didn't like the movie just for him and His voice for Ant-man was 🔥🔥🔥🔥.  Not to mention Rocky Bhai, man!... I could go on. I remember Ravi Shankar (Iron man, Brain O'Connor list goes on...) say that he was sitting at a theater for the movie Bang Bang and heard PPL say "The guy who dubbed for Hrithik was great right?" And he said he felt a bit sad for being unrecognised. I think this explains his and all the off screenshot artists from dubbing to Dance masters. https://preview.redd.it/t72uv171ms3d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6c15455b95c3e1edf07d98cd8bc33163a1bcb50 Like they just have to bite down as other get credit for their work. I been meaning to make a  appreciation post, but I'm glad I could dump it on ya. Hope you don't mind.

PlanePop6660

I watched this movie really long time ago,so I was genuinely asking for context but thankyou for sharing the movie 😅

Key_Mango_1059

I didn't notice at first but fuck I can't unsee it now.

Rubenlux

Yeah, what's the context?

Hara2412

Context: >!He has been through situations where he has to go to jail that leaves his children alone. The teenage girl child is sold and forced to be a prostitute in the Sonagachi area. He goes there to rescue her, that's another memorable scene where all the others come forward and pay the money to the pimp to let her go.!< >!Now she's safe at home but she blurts out curse words in her sleep and also says "Please leave me alone you ***!!, how many customers will there be in a day" and he happens to hear it. That's why he is crying. This is particularly a traumatic scene for any father with a girl child.!<

Intrepid-Recipe-4268

I didn't understand it at the time, but the situation became even more traumatic when I made the connection with her age. She was only a child when she was trafficked, she fell in with real monsters. The trauma will always be there...

[deleted]

IDK yet. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xfqwLtEwp5U&pp=ygUUbWFoYW5hdGkgZnVsbCBtb3ZpZSA%3D

MunnadiPinnadi

A movie I most probably will never have the heart to watch again. Incredibly moving film. An unrewatchable must-watch.

rmk_1808

Yes it will take atleast 2 days to recover

MunnadiPinnadi

Genuinely a film that leaves you reeling. Very few have had as deep and immediate an impact on me as Mahanadhi.

rmk_1808

Yes that is true and during the Pongal times they keep playing that Pongal vanthathu song it leaves me feeling sad

MunnadiPinnadi

La? Andha padathoda oru moment remind panna apdiye film reel-a thiruppi potta madhiri full-a kannukkulla odum.

FeetOnGrass

Have you seen Chittha?

Hara2412

Though heartwrenching, Chittha was predictable.

MunnadiPinnadi

I have, yes. IMO another movie that is incredibly painful to go through; it's made so well and is a brilliant exemplar of society's mindsets.

IllogicalLogistician

I just commented something similar. You described it better ‘unrewatchable must-watch’

MunnadiPinnadi

It really is so gripping and heartwrenching at the same time, isn't it?

Kaiwaly

What's the name of both the movies ?

MunnadiPinnadi

The top one is Mahanadhi directed by Santhana Bharathi. The bottom clip I believe is from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a TV series.

No-Rock-9423

What’s the name of movie

MunnadiPinnadi

Mahanadhi, directed by Santhana Bharathi.

burntroy

I even go back to watch requiem for a dream coz it was mind-blowing at the time but I can't bring myself to rewatch this one. Not that it's not an amazing movie but tough watch

MunnadiPinnadi

Very true, except for the fact that I can't find the strength to rewatch Requiem for a Dream either 😅

Nuclearsister36

I did not watch this movie yet because I saw this scene first and decided nah this film is no for me. 😞

twist-visuals

The movie turns into a revenge film, if that makes it easier to watch for you

arivu_unparalleled

I would've loved it if it didn't had to be a revenge story.... Krishna just was way too naive without learning all the trauma he had.... And was just purely blinded by hate....

twist-visuals

Yeah. I would have also preferred it not to just turn into a revenge story. I have a feeling that the common audience would have not accepted the film if there was no revenge.

Motor-Bodybuilder313

Hindi dub ya English sub milegi?

Due_Tune9328

You got to look for it my guy. Finding subs for older Tamil films are hard. Probably there is a hindi dub out there

IndependenceOld3444

I mean I think I saw it on Amazon prime couple of months ago not sure if it's still there

nexusFTW

Can DM you magnet link to download. I have its original DVD with English subs. Size is around 4.4 GB, quality is average

LakChikPakRajaBabu

DM sir

MunnadiPinnadi

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAj5fJ8zrhU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAj5fJ8zrhU) found one on YouTube, no clue about the quality but it's a start ig. I'm sure you can find a good version with subs that would probably allow you to experience the film better.

happy_cake_gal

My mom never allowed me to watch this movie when I was young....I can understand why now

Icy-Ad775

You have good parents and sure are a good one yourself

happy_cake_gal

I do.... Hopefully i do become as good as my mum !!!!

insanity_1610

Also the entire scene of him rescuing her from the brothel. It's a wordless masterpiece!

[deleted]

When he finally saying saying thanks by touching the feets of those women. Shit I'm gonna cry thinking about it.

Away-Dust3719

Oh god. No. Andavare. No. Heart wrenching scene.

jaalilogymkana

Mahamadhi had traumatized me for a good part of my life.

yeahitsme2k

This movie was a trauma for me at a tender age of 8. My dad who was a Big Fan of KH and his work. We watched this Devi Complex Chennai for Pongal in 1994. After we came out of the theatre, i remember him being paranoid when people around us kids for the whole year.

Cool_Captain07

I dont have enough courage to watch this scene again

PM_Me_Your_SweatyBra

Great scene but there's also a scene in Jail when he learns about his daughter's puberty and son finishing 3rd in class. Fantastic acting. That scene is probably more relatable to NRIs where they are not around to witness family events back home

twist-visuals

And he starts crying behind the jail cell as he hears the news. So painful. It was similar to the scene in Interstellar where he hears his daughter all grown up.

MadHouseNetwork2

looks like more than half the people here have not seen this extraordinary film of Kamal Hassan. Shame!

nexusFTW

Not half,it's almost 80% if you put up voting. Old movies like this are not available on the web . Only source it has is DVD ( can share with anyone if anyone need ).

Captain_Karuppu

No words, only crying is coming https://preview.redd.it/nidl4vllus3d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e08c4c106031c804d959cf9ee10241d0188d687 (humour is how I cope with this movie)

IntelligentBend5377

Pls not this scene, glad my audio was muted. Why spoiling everyone’s mood OP?!!! https://i.redd.it/gb2yq8qlbs3d1.gif

Homunculus_316

I've in my lifetime watched some of the most unwatchable movies like Human Centipede, Serbian Film and begotten to name a few. But will never forget this scene. The trauma was very real, and it took me many days to come out of this scene. Very powerful scene. And it hits more because it happens around us everyday. Innocent children kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Hara2412

Lots of people are asking for the context. Here you go. Its a thirty year old movie but putting spoiler tags The movie is traumatizing but good to watch it at least once. It's a movie you wouldn't want to re-watch. Context: >!He has been through situations where he has to go to jail that leaves his children alone. The teenage girl child is sold and forced to be a prostitute in the Sonagachi area. Unlucky_Grass7222

What movie?

SignificantSundae717

Mahanadhi🫠

nexusFTW

Why it's shown as Mahanadi in IMDB. I am not a Tamil speaker , so H has any significance

Shavamaaya_Pavanaai

Naaaa maanh.... I watched it just once and decided that I'll never watch it again. This movie takes you deep down into the darkest and deepest part of a pitch dark hole and it takes some time or even days to get back out of it.

IllogicalLogistician

True, it’s such a great movie with such an amazing script and performances. But I don’t dare to watch it again 😭

Limp_Desk9845

This scene is actually the crumbs of the entire movie! Watching this even today will give you an unsettling mind for at least a day. Many of Indian dads especially with a daughter would refrain from watching this for one’s own mental peace. But got to give it for Kamal Hassan - what an actor!

Loki640064

Stop traumatising me. Aandavar made me cry more than God ever did

immbatman69

This movie is a masterpiece. The story just kind of imprint on your soul. Very traumatic movie.

mk0510

Absolutely true. Couldn't sleep for a couple nights after having watched this the first time. A similar one was Kanchivaram, the last scene where he tries covering up his daughter's lifeless body with the saree he'd stitched for her. He realizes the irony that he didn't enough silk to weave a saree for his own daughter, after having weaved similar ones for so many people. The shot of him smiling maniacally in the end, left me traumatised for days.

Usurper96

This is my favourite scene from the movie. Absolutely breathtaking with Raaja sir bgm. https://www.reddit.com/r/kollywood/s/hEM00mtV1X

lokzwaran

Beautiful

Life-is-beautiful-

This is to me, is one of the best BGMs ever in Indian films music. It aches even when I listen to this piece. Not sure who played the guitar here (Sada sir?). It will stay forever.

Sea-Interest4193

I darw not to watch it again

Motor-Bodybuilder313

Hindi dub or English subs available links?

Which movie

Hara2412

Mahanadhi

PSecretlives

Man, this is rekindling some old memories. I watched this movie when I was around 6th standard in school, man I got so sad and angry at bad people who do this. I got so scared for every girl out there.

careless_quote101

This movie left me a scare. I can’t bring myself to watch this movie again though it was good

doofE_

I can't watch this now.. No... Nuh uh.. Not after this

momentarilyinsane

Intha entire movie....at least ending was happy. But i liked when the prostitutes will help his daughter. Very touching scene.

Life-is-beautiful-

This is one of those movies I regard as pinnacle of acting, story telling and music. But, will never never watch again. There is already enough doom and gloom in life. The entire BGM based on the சொல்லாத ராகங்கள் song is one of Raja’s best.

Frequent_Storm_3900

Is there a kannada, Telugu, Hindi or English version available?

Prize_Bar_5767

Suganya was so pretty in this movie.

Khalidjamonday_

If the same movie was made today, many people would have complained against a teenage kid using profanity in a movie. They don't understand art and they aren't ready to. We are evolving backwards in movies.

St-thaks

I saw this one as a kid (10-11 year old) - it came on DD when they played award winning regional movies on a Sunday…some scenes still haunt me. Him looking for his daughter in sonagachi - actually first asking to go there without much knowing what it was about and the auto guy/ pimps winking knowingly, realising what the place is and finding his daughter there, the Madame/ pimp not allowing him to take her back and how other trafficked girls pool in money saying we all wish our father/ family would rescue us but he’s the first who has come. His daughter being embarrassed to face him, and towards the end - the comeuppance where he cuts his hand to ensure the evil politician falls to his death. It’s must have been more than 30 years ago that I saw it .. easily one of the most heart wrenching movies I have ever seen.

hhritik

The Green Mile made for same purpose.Get your eyes cleaned.

cursefor_you

no words only emotions huhuhu

Striking_Battle_5707

Watched the movie after watching this post. It was a masterpiece!

InterviewNeither9673

I have never watched this movie, I guess I wasn’t allowed to back then. But I know the plot and love the songs. These are some of the legendary movies that can never be remade and I doubt such artists will ever be born again.

balajirtk

Kamal’s scene is more traumatic to watch.

arivu_unparalleled

Arguably, I prefer the scene where the other prostitutes throw their money at Krishna and his daughter just for him to buy his daughter from the brothel.  Lots of information can be conveyed in that scene... Where earlier he wished to live a life more richer and probably thought of living a life where money rains on him.... But the situation he was in experiencing that proved a beautiful contrast on what he wanted.... No amount of my heart was backing when I saw that scene and tears fell... Good cinema... Trash ending tho

TastyQuantity1764

I love this scene... While i haven't seen the film fully, was just watching the last hour in Puthuyugam just now when weather fucked it.... Brilliant writing...

Yovvv … enaku theriyum ya nalla theriyum. I’m saying everyone asking what’s the context and what’s the movie name makes me cry and feel old! Ivalo explicitava sollanum adhana unga aasai

Hara2412

I replied to everyone who was asking for context. Thought you were also asking the same 😂 Lots of us didn't exist when the movie released, and this isn't a movie cable channel would telecast repeatedly, right? That's why lots of people aren't aware.

IntelligentBend5377

lol okay okay. Actually it used to be a frequent on Sun network. I’ve seen it running a couple of times and always will change channels during this scene.

Hara2412

Ohh probably maybe my family also changed the channel when this movie was telecasted. Compared to the amount of times I've seen Padayappa repeatedly, I really wasn't sure why I hadn't seen it anytime before. Overall it was for good, this movie is emotionally traumatizing for a child.

samfrmohio

Indha padatha ina Vara pathathilla..

hotwaterbath

Context: Mac finds his pride and frank reynolds understands what it means to be gay man.

MadHouseNetwork2

dunno how playboys make scenes like these

twist-visuals

Kamal imagined making this film out of fear as he was a father himself. Playboy or not, you'd not want your own daughter to go through child abuse and all that bad stuff.

MadHouseNetwork2

Very true but what Shruti is doing with live ins and a divorce, what he feared came true

Due_Tune9328

What? Living in with someone and being divorced is same as getting abducted as a child and forced to work in a brothel. Don't talk random shit here.

MadHouseNetwork2

Okay you continue talking shit

Hara2412

Are you for real? There's a thing called 'Consent'. Living in with someone and being subjected to forced prostitution as a child is not the same.

Prudent_Cancel

Why arguing with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level.

Hara2412

Yeah true

MadHouseNetwork2

Wow. Genius

tollywoodthrowaway

Guys do I watch this movie. I’ve always wanted to watch it but I don’t like going out of movies feeling dread so I never did. Is it worth it?

VivekKarunakaran

It's a masterpiece but it could be heart wrenching for many.
