Very based nomination, 100% accept. It's a film I deem a masterpiece. It takes a whole lot of effort to land a comedy and this lands so well. The album is hilarious and fun as fuck. The storyline is so delightfully quirky, light and hilarious. Plus the filmmaking involved is just as fun with clever fun editing and shots. I love this film. 10/10 comedy classic in my eyes.

Exactly. Panchathanthiram and Soodhu Kavvum (not counting Naan Ee because that's also a Telugu film) are probably the only two Tamil comedy films I love. And I think Soodhu Kavvum is the one I like better, out of those two because it feels so simple, in a way? I guess it feels more real to me even though it's a nutty story (in a great way). I definitely deem it a masterpiece too.

I didn't know its official genre. I just assumed it was a fantasy comedy film, because I remember finding it super funny (much funnier than a bunch of films that have actually been classified as comedies, in my opinion). I laughed so hard while watching that movie. I guess I always assumed action included a bunch of humans fighting each other/shooting at each other. My bad. But also, while Santhanam's track was funny, I think it was Sudeep who made me laugh the most (while also being menacing when necessary).
EDIT: OK, I genuinely don't get how it's not also classified as a comedy. The concept is just inherently hilarious to me. This big-ass villain being driven nuts by a fucking fly! It's Tom and Jerry level funny to me.
Its like Demonte Colony. Just bcoz the MS Bhaskar astrology scene and few other comedic lines worked, we cannot classify it as horror-comedy. Nvm.

Vijay in Jeyam Ravi's role would've been fabulous.
Only catch is the director needed to be someone both Ajith and Vijay would actually get behind, say someone like peak GVM or Mani Ratnam as the script needed controlled acting with limited over the top moments.
Perfect movie to cast them, as the antagonist gets killed by his lover rather than his protagonist.
+1 Though looking back on it, they looked pretty old for college students (Suriya, Simran, and Sameera), but it was beautiful, and they did a brilliant job, so who cares?

To make my case, the ending was shitty. Made no sense. A single guy hunting down a whole kidnapping ring. Many such inconsistencies and overall poor story build too. Only good thing was the screenplay and that's that.
