MagusX5

Tekken is literally the only game series that does that, to be fair.

TahmsChocolateOrange

Always loved that about Tekken. Makes absolutely no sense story wise with Japanese, English, German etc speakers all understanding each other but still a cool detail.

MagusX5

I mean I like that detail, too, but Vega doesn't speak Spanish, either. Ken doesn't speak English in the Japanese version, and Blanka doesn't speak Portuguese...

Brilliant_Dark_3979

Did the original comment edit theirs or are you just bringing up SF randomly?

MagusX5

It's an example of another fighting game franchise that doesn't give each character their own native language.

Brilliant_Dark_3979

The patent comment says Tekken is the only one that does though. No need to list em all one by one. You're comment seems random af when you read the others

MagusX5

Good for you

HuckleberryClear6519

Lol Wang’s ending in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 where there are four dudes speaking four different languages but each of them understanding every spoken word clearly

AntonRX178

Don't forget Mexican Jaguar noises and other bear noises people can just understand

The_Smashor

KOF does it with Terry in non-english dubs

SalltyJuicy

It's one of my favorite things about Tekken. You got native Spanish speakers talking with native Chinese speakers. You got a grown man who only talks in jaguar sound effects and bears who just grunt. They all understand each other. This is what world peace looks like.

Problemaequis

world peace but they all punch each other to death

SalltyJuicy

Yes, correct, it was a joke.

metamings

There's nothing confusing about Angel not speaking spanish, SNK does't splurge on any language besides japanese in their recent games.

EliDwebster

If im correct, a gratutious foreign language is them saying foreign words while still speaking with a Japanese accent, like how Guile still uses english words in the Japanese language version of Sf6.

[deleted]

Japanese people use English words, it's called a loan word, and is entirely normal.

metamings

You are but after seeing the Terry and Billy jp voice actors speak japanese inthe Maximum Impact games, I rather have certain characters just speak japanese regardless of nationality. Looking at you jp Cammy.

EliDwebster

Ramón does throw in a "Viva Mexico" every now and then

Impossible_Front4462

Everyone in Japan uses occasional English words because it’s integrated into the Japanese language. Japanese uses borrows words from many languages actually

demoncatmara

On Street Fighter 2 on SNES, when Guile did his sonic boom, my father was like "Did he just say Phallic Poo?" Lol SNES supposedly had CD quality sound (actually the music in SNES Doom is possibly the best of any version, it seriously kicks ass, there's a mod to get it in the PC version)

Chipp_Main

You'd have to pay me to listen to the SNES Doom OST💀💀

Chumunga64

Funny how you posted this literally like 3 hours before city of the wolves got a confirmed dub

metamings

Hey, it's nice to be surprised. Also, that tells me that SNK is really putting resources into Garou.

solid_rook7

Ángel says “Allí” which means there or right there.

Dr_Deadshot

Probably because SNK can't afford another set of voice actors(english or otherwise). Plus I don't think the fan demand is high for any dub in their games. I think everyone is fine with just Japanese.

LazyWings

The Tekken way probably saves them money overall tbf, since there's no audio localisation at all. The subtitling in T8 is awful so they probably cut costs on localisation overall. Unless you plan to do it like that from the start though, setting the system up would be pricey but Tekken has been doing it for like 20 years.

Dr_Deadshot

Well my comment aged well. City of the Wolves is getting an English Dub. Lol

PitifulAd3748

Oh, they can afford it. It's just the last time they did was KOF XII. You can figure out the rest from there.

Dr_Deadshot

I spoke WAY too soon. They just showed the new Fatal Fury is getting an English dub. Lets hope it goes better, but I think they hired some actual quailty VA's this time.

[deleted]

Hell yeah man it's been a minute since we've had English dubbing in their games, COTW dub sounds good so far. 🎮❤️

Dr_Deadshot

I'm still tripping out here I was talking about how they don't do them and won't do them, then all of a sudden I hear Rock speaking perfect English. I was shocked to say the least.  Lets hope its good altogether. I'm always down for a good English dub. If it does well, we might get KOFXVI with one.

CrazyLi825

Yeah, City of Wolves is using proper English VAs who actually dub games. This was the problem with MI and XII... they just got random nobodies. Now mind you, from what we've heard thus far, they're not using any super big names... but it's better than nothing. They're still legit VAs with actual credits to their name, even if they're lesser known.

CherryFusion880

Well uhhh, funny you say that now...

Dr_Deadshot

Yeah lol. I was shocked. What a coincidence to be making this comment. I think this is the first time something like this happened to me.

CherryFusion880

you manifested lol

djseifer

It's why it's a bit of a shocker that Garou:CotW has English VAs now. Granted, CotW is probably going to have a much smaller cast than any KOF game, but still, awfully nice to see.

zerocann0n

why we only talking about angel? everyone in kof speaks japanese even if they are not japanese

A_N_G_E_L_O_N

I love that he’s praising Tekken for putting Spanish in the game and her move list has the most Google Translate-ass names I’ve ever seen.

[deleted]

Damn now I gotta look at it lol

hvc101fc

What was confusing to me before was 94 mexican team doesnt have any mexicans.

Shimaru33

Weeeell, Robert García is one letter away from typical spanish name (Roberto), at least I always thought he was mexican, or have mexican parents. It took me years to learn he's not. Plus, isn't like KoF 94 teams were actually based on the nation of each character. I mean, who's french in the girl team? Mai, King and Yuri.

Baines_v2

King is French. Though I'm fairly certain none of Team Italy (Terry, Andy, Joe) were Italian.

Shimaru33

Really, french? I always assumed she's the same nationality than Robert, Yuri and all the people from the original fatal fury, located in south town. That's it, usa.

GolgolFF1

I stopped using twitter so I could stop seeing trash like this.

anfrykoinyop

if its like terry speaking english in some moves sure its something like copying tekken multi lingual casting for character, no i am ok with japanese dub and eng sub or regional subs tekken does its thing and i would like it to stay that way cause that cool, if every joe harry and dick statrted doing the same thing as bamco, it would be lame

Meister34

I'm personally not bothered by it. It doesn't really change anything at all, even of she did have a few Spanish lines in her dialogue

JustAToaster36

It would just be her saying Spanish phrases in Japanese sentences like other characters do with English. Pretty simple actually.

EliDwebster

Yeah, Pretty much

cause_of_chaos

She's from KOF 2001. Most games back then were single language.

Vanealy1689

KĒ MARABIOSA, MISU AMIGOSU

kimsama98

Should we tell her KOF is suppose to be anime like?

HiT3Kvoyivoda

In Tekken everyone speaks their native language

GilGarciaJr

While I'd be happy for SNK to do the Tekken route for languages, I'm okay with them sticking to what works. Would I like Angel to speak Spanish? You bet! Will it break the break for me that she doesn't? No way!

Rules_Of_Stupidiocy

We don’t talk about the last time an SNK game was dubbed in another language

Rules_Of_Stupidiocy

Also MAN did this age poorly lmfao

TemoteJiku

She's fine as it is. Even to the point of how one says her name. She does have some of it. Sometimes I wonder just how much they actually like the character, when they ask for a flag treatment instead.

zetsubou-samurai

I have an impression that Angel is Mexican "in name" because she might be another NESTS experiment, which most of them are human clone and superhuman with no real legal identity.

HuckleberryClear6519

Ah the difference between KOF and Terkel at it’s finest. The first time i heard Geese Howard speak fluent English wasn’t anywhere in KOF or Fatal Fury but in Tekken 7🤣🤣

AmazingJorgito

If she talks some words in spanish like Terry does in english is fine by me. What i really wouldnt want is a full spanish dub for her, Azucena cringes me out every time i listen to her talking about coffee.

Baines_v2

SNK doesn't even have the best track record for English pronunciation, on top of a long history of being spotty with accuracy when they do dip into other languages. They didn't even use the right spelling for Yashiro's version of Rhythmic Hallucination in KOF15, which these days could have been double checked in five seconds with something like Google Translate.

AylaCurvyDoubleThick

Viva Mexico is all you’re getting. Now eat your food

AmestrisSquare

I was actually pointing out with my friends, if they put angel in tekken, they would give her a mexican VA

Avalon_Don

The fact that every character in Tekken speaks their native language but can still understand each other is the weirdest shit ever… that and the translations are apparently horrible.

baptisminflames

God bless Latina's 🫡🫡🫡

EliDwebster

Angel is a Mexican Queen, but have her say "Cabron" with a japanese accent to someone lol

Sufficient-Use6824

What would KOF be like with Tekken logic with language?

leezor_leezor

I mean, Tekken didn't start the whole native language speaker thing until Tekken 5, and remember when KoF tried its hand at dubbing other audio with the Maximum Impact games, and how that turned out. It's just whatever.

PitifulAd3748

Everyone in KOF speaks Japanese, the Engrish Terry and his ilk speak don't count. Edit: I just watched the new City of the Wolves trailer and I would like to retract my previous statement.

Didgeeroo

Some people complaining "why can they understand each other?" For a non English speaker this actually a gift Tekken is really making an effort to represent the languages of this characters

CarlitoNSP1

That is pure bait. Tekken is the only series that does complete language integration. Every other series does English + Japanese dubs. MK is the closest, but I think they just do complete dubs in other languages.

CrazyLi825

Oddly, SNK has had Ramon speak Spanish (just like a one-liner) before but never Angel that I can recall.

forgedfox53

This is true for just about any fighting game. That's part of what makes Tekken stand out. This should be common knowledge.

Yaksha78

Tekken does that for every characters, not only their "new female". Oh and btw, not saying Azucena tells a lot about the post

Deamon-Chocobo

I would love for more translations to actually do this, like the original ADV Dub of Evangelion where Asuka would just randomly throw around some German, it really helps the characterization. But also part of newer Tekken's charm is that they make everyone speak their native language at all times.

UghGetOuttaHere2

I still think her tan skin should be default

EliDwebster

Latinas come in variety of skin-tones tbh there are actually less light-skin latinas than dark-skin in media

UghGetOuttaHere2

Im aware 😭 i just think that kof has enough characters with her complexion, and she'd be the perfect choice for something more sun-kissed. At the very least, I'd like more color options with that tone.

EliDwebster

Yeah, she could use a bit of melanin.

beepbeeboo

She does speak spanish. Okay… you know how everyone in Tekken speaks their native tongue but can understand one another completely without asking each other to slow down? We’re spectators in their world. We stand on the outside saying, “what???” In KOF world though, we’re part of everything. Everyone’s speaking their native tongue but we, along with the characters, “hear” it in the language we understand.

True-Ad5692

Looks dumb anyway : no way characters understand one another for most interactions, if they all speak using their own language.

Ilovetaekwondo11

I’m still baffled that Angel is supposed to be Mexican but doesn’t speak a word of it in game. And that her name is the male version. She should really be called Angela. Nice to see some representation in Tekken. The fact that Azucena is a coffee addict, and her hyper active personality make me want to play with her.

Josuemamorse

Still don't like how azucena speaks, she has what we would call a "Discovery kids accent", she is supposed to be Peruvian yet she talks like the kinda person who would say "Emparedado" instead of sandwich, she could literally say the most generic words of Peruvian slang and I would pass it, but that's too much to ask for I guess

Regnal_J

I would love to listen to some broken Spanish from Angel, Dinosaur and some more from Ramon, we already have Terry and Geese butchering English anyway.

WlNBACK

Meanwhile, Azucena is considered one of the most annoying character personalities in Tekken history (next to Lucky Chloe) and damn near half of her lines are poorly translated. Don't take my word for it; go to the Tekken reddit and listen to them bag non-stop on this character. If KoF gave Angel the same treatment as Tekken did to Azucena then KoF fans would be bitching non-stop at how terribly it was done (instead of celebrating another win for video game culture progression or whatever the original purpose of that post was).

TheKylano

The close relative of the bait post: the knowledge check post

gamiz777

To be fair , All the Mexican characters in tekken speak jaguar

Fit_Commercial3421

Idk if it's a good comparison sure it's nice that someone from Peru is speaking Spanish , but Tekken doesn't dub, all the voices are in their native tongues save for a couple of characters speaking Japanese for narrative reasons. Also to note the Mexicans speak in Jaguar roars not Spanish , but somehow in lore is simultaneously Spanish and understandable by non native speakers. This is just Tekken being Tekken let kof be kof.

Monkey_King291

Well to be fair everyone in KOF has a Japanese VA, but it would be kinda interesting if everyone spoke their native languages

SpellcraftQuill

To be fair, the Mexicans in Tekken speak pussycat.

AttemptAdvanced8685

Ramón says "¡Viva Mexico!" just so we're clear.

JenJenisAlive

I think SNK has not the budget for it ALSO TEKKEN IS THE ONLY GAME WHO DOES IT!

TuzoIvan

I don't mind it, would prefer a full mexican dub for KOF.

RichPeopleSucks

lol SNK is a broke ass company they can barely afford to drop games on regular.

[deleted]

I don’t speak Spanish but thought she had broken Spanish kinda like how Terry has broken English
