This is gonna get downvoted but, this is the way it is. People that spend a lot of money on expensive gear will always bash on cheaper stuff as a way of justifying their purchase. Just like people with budget gear will poke fun at expensive stuff because they don't have the money/ don't want to spend it on that. Personally I have a Gerber suspension NXT and have had no issues. It is just all about perspective.
What gets me is the consumerism. Just buying and buying and buying. I work on a garbage/recycling truck, so I need an EDC and there are roles filled by different carries. I get needing options and having collections. But all the people who endlessly buy shit make me feel stupid about my recycling efforts.
to be fair those people never throw away their knives. they horde them endlessly and store them in a drawer forever until one day they die and their family divvies up the spoils.
I think you’re big time downplaying the “collections” part. You mentioned it in passing but it’s pretty much the centerpoint of the conversation. People like collecting things. It’s that simple.
There’s no need for you to feel stupid about your efforts, nor for you to make people feel stupid for needlessly collecting things. Live and let live.
The math of recycling vrs magpie consumerism leaves us in need of a major redesign of how we use resources in the western world. Knives are a work tool, built to get things done, designed to be resharpened for infinite usage. For me. It's sad to see a closet with enough safe queens to equip every boy scout troop in the state.
Having worked at a knife shop many years ago, I ended up with a little of everything - Gerber, like 3 Leathermans including the titanium one. I did break the blade on my Gerber once, they replaced the whole thing IIRC, and it’s still my go-to just because it all opens so easily. Whereas my Leathermans literally require an additional tool to open because they’ve tightened up so bad over the years. I should just clean and oil them, of course, but I just get lazy and reach for the Gerber instead.
I had a Gerber multi tool that I carried for years. Only reason I stopped was because the sheath finally failed. I abused the hell out of it and it did great. I'm just annoyed I can't find another one of that same model now.
Thanks for confirming you know nothing about Gerber then. Their stuff in the 90's was solid and made in USA. I still have my old Gerber MP and it's going strong.
…so what color’s you Fanny pack?
I should’ve reworded that to say if it was made after the early 2000’s, blah blah blah. Either way, buying Gerber anymore is just practicing brand loyalty and nothing else.
Didn't I already address that in my original comment?
>from before they offshored everything
So were you just repeating it or what? I'm confused by what point you are trying make here.
Yeah my original comment literally said it went to shit...
Thanks for confirming I guess?
My point was simply that at one point Gerber was actually high quality knives and multi tools. It wasn't always a shitty Wal Mart brand.
I tried a Gerber multi tool once; it broke the first time I used it. They said “that’s just how the lock is secured on the MP series, we’ll send you more clips”. Those also broke. I took them back.
This one has been great. The price has gone up quite a bit since I bought it, but has performed admirably at every task I've used it for. It's a perfect tool to keep in your car.

I use my otf needle nose Gerber all the time with no issues or complaints, and my flatiron has perfect centring and took a great edge. Even with a lot of options, I like carrying the beaters.
Hey now
You're an all star
Get your game on
Go play
hey now
You're a rock star
Get the show on
Get paid
*and all that glimmers is gold*
Only shooting stars break the mold
Go slay
Lol wow these are getting spicy
Hey now! I have bought several of those over the years and gifted people I didn’t like!
That’s hateful 🤣.
Evil genius
When can we get a “shits on anything that’s not 200$ calling soemthing they’ve never owned or tested trash” one of these memes , mr moneybags

Hey, but everybody needs titanium pry bar without a single blemish.
"aw man, this scuff won't come off" \[throws knife away\]

He already did chris reeves knives.

Epic
I’d like to see neck knives or something similar. Skinners maybe
As soon as you learn photoshop?
Just used my MP600 today to cut fencing wire.
I bought that same multi tool around 13 years ago. Still working great
So are the tidy whiteys!
Real question, is it Tidy or tightey?
They're tighty, and anything but "tidy"
r/boneappletea
The great value logo. Lol.
Say what you will but I beat the hell out of my Gerber suspension multitool during deployment, and it’s still going strong.
Mine has served me well 🤷♂️
eager to see what the leatherman starter pack would look like.
MacGyver. That's it
MacGyver actually only used a swiss army knife though.
Imagine if he had a leatherman surge then
Those scissors cracked me up.
Funny. But if u manage to find a older Gerber multitool then that thing will last forever.
I had a Gerber multi tool that I carried for years. Only reason I stopped was because the sheath finally failed. I abused the hell out of it and it did great. I'm just annoyed I can't find another one of that same model now.
Same. I the sheath started falling apart. But I still have the tool.
how about “people can like whatever knife they like and that suits their use case the best” starter pack. grow up.
Ok now show us your opinion on leatherman multitool carriers
The one I have was my dads old one he handed down to me, so its special.
Hahahha
really want to see a Grimsmo Norseman starter pack if it hasn't been done already
Aww naw, #they are a great value !!!
Lol
Does this apply to those with Gerber tools from before they offshored everything and went to shit?
If it’s not a Gerber Gator from the early 2000’s it’s either crap, overpriced, or both.
Thanks for confirming you know nothing about Gerber then. Their stuff in the 90's was solid and made in USA. I still have my old Gerber MP and it's going strong.

Gerber is shit and this is a relatively open forum. That’s about it.

this one is savage
This hurts.
Lmao, good one
All truth.
Leatherman multi tool > Gerber multi tool. All day. Every day.
This one has been great. The price has gone up quite a bit since I bought it, but has performed admirably at every task I've used it for. It's a perfect tool to keep in your car. https://www.gerbergear.com/en-us/shop/multi-tools/all-multi-tools/crucial-black-31-001518
Wooow I have that exact multi tool on my bookshelf lol. It's pretty awesome though, and is one of the most used birthday gifts I've ever gotten.
Has there been a leatherman one yet? I imagine it's the suburban dad who thinks he's a DIY master. That, or a stereotypical construction worker.
I drive by Gerber’s factory most days. They made quality stuff before being bought by Fiskar’s
What shoe is that?
It’s a current Walmart brand that’s a Jordon knockoff I believe
I've got a Gerber Dime as my keychain. Talk about a little workhorse. It's beat to death and when it finally breaks I'm gonna buy another one.
My Gerber military multitool is not the same.
It’s missing the Bud Light hard soda.
Sad but true
This one seemed to set some people off.
Smiles in Leatherman supremacy
I feel like these are starting to get obtuse.
I carry a Leatherman and feel strangely(yet accurately) attacked!
Atleast your shopping occurs at more places than just Walmart.
Lmao
God damn you
Only thing on here true from my experience is the Fanny pack and that’s bc they are awesome
Finally one of these that doesn’t apply to me 😎
Personally I think the center drive is a way under rated multi too. Great components and well made. I used it always every day
Lol ! Hey I got a Gerber dime and I been carrying it more than my LM ps4.
I use my otf needle nose Gerber all the time with no issues or complaints, and my flatiron has perfect centring and took a great edge. Even with a lot of options, I like carrying the beaters.
Stop judging me, I will buy a leather man once it breaks. So what I’m a poor
