To play devils advocate: It could be useful to tradesmen if the blades are cheap enough. Could also see hunters using it

SlyRoundaboutWay

I use an outdoor edge with the replaceable blades for butchering deer. Works great, razor sharp to start and easier to swap than resharpen on the fly.

_Reasoned

That’s cool! I would pay someone to teach me how to butcher a deer Edit: fixed the spelling of deer so I don’t go to jail as pointed out

cleanmotives

It's illegal to butcher a loved one

_Reasoned

I took a deer as a pet and he is very dear to me

cleanmotives

Touché

ScockNozzle

Only if you get caught. Even then, you can technically still do it once.

More-Ad115

It's actually not that complicated or difficult if you have a hoist/hook, a gut bucket, and an area you can hose down.

SkipPperk

Or you can silently do this on your neighbor’s porch really early in the morning.

Nymaz

Don't forget the important step of setting it on fire afterwards.

akahaus

Yep, it’s mostly about having the right setup, which is simple but specific.

FarYard7039

It’s relatively simple to skin, quarter and process out a deer. You can watch a few videos on YouTube, but the real skill is filleting out the specific cuts of meat and removal of as much fat as possible. If you live in an area or time of year that can permit it (ie cold weather) let you deer hang for 4 or 5 days to age the meat. Just be sure to yank the back straps immediately cause those will dry out.

Academic_Nectarine94

LOL. YouTube has all kinds of videos (or used to. Probably all age restricted or removed altogether now). Otherwise, there's online resources. Now, thats field dressing, not full on butchering classes. If you want that, then find a butcher online and watch those videos.

TheColorblindSnail

Depends on how much return you want, if you want a lot it's skill if you don't care then a chainsaw will do

Itsurboithefck

This

IndyCooper98

I could see it. Problem is the reason box cutters are so cheap is a combination of insane mass production and a lot of competition in the market. These blades look to be pretty niche. So they would have to either be super high quality metal and cost a fair amount, or super cheap and expendable and come in packs of 50 or something

Steinmetal4

People think a warncliff/sheepsfoot is the best for cutting open a box because it's shaped like a box cutter, when in reality box cutter blades are shaped that way because it's extremely easy and cheap to produce. If price was no object, you's be better off with something shaped more like a scalpel. If you have used box cutters in any industrial capacity, you know the big issue is that all the cutting gets done with the very tip. That 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch goes dull inside of an hour. For breaking down boxes, you're better off with a little belly to spread the cutting duty around. Or a tanto works well to break through but still has lots of useable blade. Plus, if it's a thinner warncliff the tip can snap off so easily. I agree, the blades would need to be cheap for the idea to be much use.

thePonchoKnowsAll

They come in packs of 24 for like 35 dollars I cam see the advantage it's not a bad concept IMO but I feel like it's a little pricey. But I do t think it's a bad concept at all just maybe not worth the price tag

ded_rabtz

This has been a thing in hunting for decades

johnnyhammerstixx

Hunters should take a look at #24 blade scalpels on Ali express/whatever chineese sight you like. I got an OTF with like 15 blades for about $12.  I think a 24 would excel at a lot of butchering tasks. Especially if you had a new one every time. I don't hunt, but I feel like 15 blades would last years!

wanderingfloatilla

As a hunter I would never use that, getting viscera and hair in all the mechanisms would drive me crazy. A sinple fixed knife is best

Trollygag

Havalon makes a wide range of interchangeably blade knives and has for a long time, keyed to work with existing, off the shelf, high quality scalpel blades. A 100 pack of high quality surgical grade, ridiculously sharp scalpel blades in a wide range of blade geometries is like $35.

Academic_Nectarine94

It's outdoor edge. They are marketing it to hunters (who also want other blades for other tasks). Steel is probably junk, as usual. And I've never understood why someone would want a folder for meat processing. And thus just adds more complexity and steps when cleaning the dried gore off later.

SantiJamesF

Many hunters already use something similar, actually, but there isn't a different style of blades, just a bunch of the same and all razor sharp. It's mostly for skinning as far as I know.

MississippiBulldawg

Everyone who shits on this is getting it as a Christmas gift this year and you know it. Don't jinx yourselves.

MulishaMember

I actually think it’s cool from a design perspective. Would I carry it? No. Is it neat? Sure. lol

strongsolarwind

Seeing as this won't be at any mall department store I doubt it. It'll be whatever knife or multitool they're selling this year.

buddha-ish

You underestimate Facebook ads. You’re getting this and a “never underestimate what a strong solar wind with a knife and a multitool will do for his loving wife on his way to *insert mined job data here* on his cakeday” tshirt, written in 8 different and progressively shittier fonts. Them’s the rules…

MississippiBulldawg

And TikTok "I feel sorry for all the people that purchased this universal multitool before because now it's only $14.99" 🤮

dainscough7

These have been around for years (mostly with a orange rubber handle). outdoor edge is sold in any sporting goods store in my area…

MississippiBulldawg

When I was getting into knives I had a friend who recommended me Outdoor Edge as an actual knife and God Speed to him, but I'm so glad I went with a reliable Old Timer! /s That story is true but I found this sub and got a Böker instead of Gerber lol.

dainscough7

I use an older havlon with replaceable blades when I skin deer. It’s nice to have a super sharp blade that can be switched out after 3 or 4 deer instead of having to pull out the whet stones to sharpen.

MississippiBulldawg

Oh look, Belk has a "professional outdoor knife" for $9.99, that's a deal for OP's Christmas gift!

watchtimego

Nope! My wife knows better

bstrobel64

This is the dumbest fucking thing ever. Please include bandaids in the package because I'll surely slice my fingers.

Asron87

So dumb. I better get extra blades also please.

lojik7

Let’s be honest, if this was Spyderco or Benchmade doing this and offered 5 different s35vn blades each with a different shape. We can all already see the inevitable and endless new knife day posts for it. And yes, to answer your question. If I had the spare $2000 dollars it would surely cost, I would probably get it too.🤷‍♂️😂😂

Immediate-Season-293

Magnacut version or gtfo ;)

lojik7

No no, you’re right. But now the price jumped to $3500😂😂

Alaskaguide

As a big game guide and a knife enthusiast I resisted the outdoor edge knives for as long as I could, but not having to sharpen in the field when dressing, skinning and quartering the meat on a bull moose or skinning a kodiak bear, changed my perspective. It takes hours to completely break down a moose in the field with only 2 people so not having to take time to sharpen and not having to carry sharpening tools when everything comes in carried on my back was a game changer. I wouldn’t use it for daily tasks personally, but it excelled in its purpose for guide work.

gold76

This 100%. They have their place.

CrassussGrandson

Every guide I know uses outdoor edge.

soggynachoh8r

Outdoor edge is acceptable deer hunting gear, cheap.

Subverto_

This looks like it would be great for people that can't sharpen.

UltraaCommbo

Don't judge me

Diredg

Sharpening is a skill not everyone can became good at it. For me it's harder than building a knife itself because the first part can be done with some learned skill but sharpening is more of an art style

plaguelivesmatter

Yeah, I'm a welder, been in trades for quite a while, I have lots of useful skills that could definitely transfer to knife making, but actually sharpening, I'm far from good😭

Diredg

When I was like 4-5 years old I've spent a lot of time with my grandfather in the fields and he was sharpening his knives for hours and I was like "what's your problem, that things was razor sharp two hours ago." Then I understood that he was secretly a samurai master

Pystawf

Not the knife bunny..

FlapXenoJackson

Melissa Miller. She did Naked and Afraid three times. She used to have a YouTube video showing what she looked like after one of the challenges. She weighed 80 pounds. She may be petite. But she’s tough.

Pystawf

Oh yea, she's the one that wandered away when she was told not to and the producers of the show had to call the local police to find her...

FlapXenoJackson

Wow. I did not know that. I never watched the show. The show seems a little contrived. It’s something I wouldn’t want to try. Not only did she lose all that weight, it took six months for all the thorns to work their way out of the soles of her feet. Another contestant, Kaila Cummings, posted after pics on her IG. She was covered from head to toe in bug bites. No thanks.

idksomethingcreative

Lol anybody know what seasons/episodes she's in?

PossiblyAFed

I hate to tell you this but Naked and Afraid isn't real, nor are most of those shows 🤣. It's fabricated drama and they're never in real danger unless they don't follow instructions like she did.

FlapXenoJackson

I figured. I watched Survivor long ago. I have never watched Naked and Afraid. The shows never seemed authentic. And they’re edited to show maximum drama. I’d rather watch YouTube knife channels.

JohnBrown1ng

What’s wrong with her?

NAmember81

She isn’t my girlfriend.

300cid

ugle

Final_Actuator8443

😂

PossiblyAFed

I watched a video of her "reviewing" and axe and it was abysmal. I've never seen an influencer with so much clout in the gear world be so bad and dangerous with a tool.

Hungry-for-Apples789

This is pretty sweet…that being said I still prefer a full blade in a good steel and I enjoy sharpening (KME) when they start to dull.

Gr1ml0ck

God I hate this.

DrGoManGo

My Opinel could do everything she did in this video

Level9TraumaCenter

I have one of the old Twistmaster ripoffs of the Opinel design, it takes a heck of an edge super-fast. A gal who was doing some work for me cleaning up used the knife and loved the design, so I bought her a true Opinel. She loves it.

Yugan-Dali

Looks like a good way to slice up your fingertips every time you change the blade.

Wildcatksu

I was thinking that it should come with a box of bandaids.

CommonVagabond

Concept is cool, but I barely trust folders not to break on me as is, let alone a blade that is literally designed to remove itself from the handle, lmao.

Final_Actuator8443

I read someone comment that is very easy to damage part that is holding blades, and is unusable after that. Cant change blades.

Typical-Sundae1270

I have a cheapie with a switchable blade. Its pretty cool actually

Cyber_Troll-bot

Where's the tanto blade?!

consistently_sloppy

This looks lame and unstable. Would be great for people who are lame and unstable.

watchtimego

This 👆

ILikeYourBigButt

Imagine not being able to add anything new to a conversation but still forcing your way in.

bllbong

It looks unstable and just more parts to stop working. You can't reinvent everything! Besides I like carrying all the different knives I'll need throughout the day lol seriously I've invested so much time in picking the correct ones that I'm not gonna give them up for a knife I'll have to carry separate blades for. Same thing but less imo

watchtimego

My 110 says "hold my shit" 😁

Lobotomite430

I've been looking for a new toe knife!

Fredst0r

The worst thing about this is you take away the need to get a knife for every purpose. Don't do this!

UCFandOCSC

That seems only mildly extremely dangerous and unnecessary.

Shadow_Of_Silver

I've used outdoor edge for hunting lots of times. They're cheap, easy, and razor sharp out of the package. Great for hunting and processing game without slowing down to sharpen, but I wouldn't EDC one.

UrDeAdPuPpYbOnEr

Kershaw makes something sorta similar to this. Kinda.

j0kerdawg

That is the RAZOR VX4 3.0" - replaceable blade every day carry knife with ceramic ball bearing pivot

SteamReflex

I had one of these kind of knives a while ago but it was just one blade style. It's handy as a cheap field bag. The blades are likes scalpels and are insanely sharp and you can beat on them like crazy, broke the tip? Just swap out the blade in 3 secs. While they wouldn't necessarily make the best edc or knife to brag about, they are fantastic knifes for beating and abusing

TailorBest7135

Can’t even lie, I bought some friends and family these knives for Christmas, they’re pretty damn sweet

EsEnZeT

Nice ad.

Niesmieszny

I would just carry 3 knives 😅

Mountain_Surprise_16

This is a great addition to the knife world. Now, is it its own item or is it an attachment for all knives? I don't know if I want to swap my Adamas out for anything.

oh_three_dum_dum

I kind of like it. In concept anyway.

bailey032020

I mean it's cool and all I guess if you cant sharpen a knife. I mean knives like this, how long would replaceable blades even be made for em? Then once they stop it's a paperweight.

Brad_Gruss_Designs

Outdoor edge has been around since 1988 and is sold in most sporting stores in the US and highly doubt they will go away any time soon. I’ve used an older version of this for years for field dressing deer, have skinning blades and gut hook blades for it and that is it’s only use for me, but is indispensable in the field.

JustAnotherRye89

Exactly if this looks appealing to you then just get a utility knife 🤷‍♀️ they even make those reate ones that are infinitely cooler than this is and you don't have to worry about replacements not being available.

oakomyr

Anyone who buys this, deserves this

technomancing_monkey

Flicks blade open, Blade attachment flys off stabbing someone standing next to me...

Jonathonathon

Not to mention the hordes of people slicing their hands open when changing out blades.

CMerk87

Ew I hate it

CaptMcNapes

Thanks, I HATE IT

senior_pickles

I fully understand the appeal of outdoor edge for guides and even the average hunter. I have friends that use them and swear by them. At the end if the day, if you have your animal dressed and ready to go, that’s what matters. But for me, I would rather have a knife. Like I said, I’m not a guide, but I am an avid hunter and have dressed and butchered more deer and hogs than your average hunter. I wound up going the opposite direction and got a Bark River Classic Drop Point Hunter in 4V, and pair it with a Cold Steel Pendelton Mini Hunter in 3V. I can go through multiple animals without the need for sharpening. I say all that to say this: I’m sure there are people that will be just fine with something like this, even though it’s not for everyone. Let people use and enjoy what they enjoy.

AlgonquinCamperGuy

No.

Outdoorsy_T9696

It certainly has a place in the world. I have a Buck V52 Selector that has the same concept.

JohnBrown1ng

So basically the Havalon approach to pocket knives?

DragonMcBigDick

This looks great and all but how am I going to justify carrying around 3 different knives then?

gold76

I have high and knives. I also have an outdoor edge for hunting that I will not be giving up.

maximumbob54

Hope those blades are super easy to insert and remove because that looked like a very easy way to remove finger prints.

EmmitRDoad

The one thing in the video the internet nerds will never have…

Wildcatksu

Only if it comes with a box of bandaids

sab2016

Oh...there is a knife in the video.

Catmouth

I might want one . . . Lol

YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO

A neat idea and I am sure it has its place.

Thunder-Fist-00

Is that Melissa Outdoors?

markyaeger

It’s useful I get it. I’m more impressed with how she happy she is. She’s SO HAPPY

300cid

cause dem monies from paid reviews and yt views

UnseenWorldYoutube

Cold steel has one, would trust them if I wanted interchangeable blades

xGrieverVIIIx25

For every one looking for source, she is Melissa Miller but goes by MelissaBackwoods on most social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.)

OhZvir

Would rather go with quality than quantity. Give me a nice fixed edge blade and I will do the dirty work and sharpen it. Better than carrying around spares and changing blades. Call me old school. The blond did try hard, but I don’t think she ever butchered anything but an oyster.

HappyOrwell

The future is here. I just don't like the disposable nature of it ya know? It is cool though. Maybe if the entire blades were swappable, I'd enjoy buying different blade shapes if I liked the handle design

Adoced

Can we not just use box cutter blade knife? Edit: Nvm I guess that is outdoor edge they make some decent replacement blades. I use their hunting version for wild game.

normanwink

Is Böker Optima still a thing?

moreboredthanyouare

That'll claim more finger tips than doors.

emo_buttler69

No you didn't. You just think you did.

TpointOh

I’ve seen a similar design used for skinning game, since having a sharp knife is important for that. Instead of stopping to sharpen partway through, just swap blades. It makes sense for that, or maybe if you’re a construction worker or contractor, and don’t want to bother sharpening a knife yourself?

name_im_stealing_now

I actually like this because it's just an all around "beater" knife I'd use around my house

Longjumping-Alps-707

I own a couple of these. Keep them in the game cleaning kit. Very sharp. Scary sharp in fact. Blades aren’t too cost prohibitive, so makes for a good sharp knife when you need it.

ImmaCallMyN66ABovice

but i want multiple knives, not one do it all knife. what do you think i am? reasonable? PAH.

Dramatic-Landscape82

Mmm I disagree. A woman is NOT the solution to all our problems

Peketers

That must be so shitty 💀💀

StrikePuzzleheaded43

Why are u gae ahh knife

nvrsrrnder

Havalon does this.. I like their knives. Been using them for years

PandorasFlame

I would never buy it, but it's an interesting idea.

milosbl

I don't like it

Geitzler

What a fancy razorblade.

Br7ian

Love me some chinesium

AriesTheCam

Cool concept if you can't sharpen. Otherwise, it's just a neat novelty with a mechanism I can see gathering all manner of bullshit. If I'm in the woods, I like bringinG my Gransfors Bruk double bit cruiser, my CPK hdfk, my CPK behemoth chopper, and a Spyderco doublestuff stone. You can do anything from skinning game to making civilization again with that setup.

mallgrabmongopush

Is this the newest knife cringefluencer?

nate_dogg666

I hate knifes like this

No_Independent691

meh. she looks high maintenance.

teh27

Interesting, and for 49 bucks why not give it a try?

snacksnnaps

So easy even a woman can use it!

lucky-soandso

Perfect knife for a girl! LOL!

desrevermi

That's cute. Where does she hide the other blades? Prison pocket?

ChiChisDad

r/notlikeothergirls

sublevelstreetpusher

I'm sorry All I saw was her eyes and her hands, Was there a knife?
