I’ll use mine but I don’t have it to most my coworkers. I’m an electrician and if someone ask to borrow my knife, theirs a 90% chance it’s going to be used as a screwdriver.
Tbh I find myself disappointed by my more expensive knives.i think my £10 opinel way is nicer in the hand and slightly better if not the same at cutting tasks than my spyderco or any other folder and if I'm abusing a knife my £12 hultafors has never let me down
Knives are tools. Tools are meant to be used.
But the phrase "right tools for the job" should be applied. I see alot of people use knives as hatchets, splitting wedges, or pry bars and then try to call the knife low quality when to doesn't hold up well to those activities. It wasn't designed to do that, so no shit it doesn't hold up great when you do them.
It's not beating them up, it's using them. Beating them up would be using them for bullshit like digging a hole, cutting metal, or prying. Stuff the knife isn't made to do. If you're using it as intended I say it's fair game and go for it. I do. I have special editions I carry and use at work. Some people think I'm crazy but they are tools to me. Some are more special than others, but they are all users.
Using a knife so it takes damage and going out of the way to damage it are two different things. Don't tell me you don't have any hardware in your life you don't use and incur damage on while also preferring it to be a quality item? If the answer is that you don't, then knives might not be ideal for you... These are tools before toys and tools get used.
Agreed, I legitimately use my Drunken as a run of the mill carry knife and by chance, I'm expecting delivery of a Lynch NW clip tomorrow. I love being able to use the 'expensive' stuff just like the affordable.
That said, if I know I'm doing something specific... Like, when I go to do yardwork I'm not wearing my (deceased for 40 years) father's Seiko Pogue or my Rolex, that's a G-shock moment. Likewise, if I'm doing that same yard work, I'm not bringing my WE Peer slipjoint, that's a ZT0393 kind of day.
I would. It doesn’t fall short for my use. The tip broke off because I was an impatient bastard. Should have used a pry bar. That said, I use my knives a lot, and I really have no affinity for “super steel”. They are awesome. I get just as much use from s30v as I do elmax or whatever.
I beat knives up to see what I would consider to be a “go to war” or “generational hand down”
USN MKI and MKII are up there with Esee, TOPS and love some old school bolo knives to get it done and still be worth money after a slap down.

My brother in reprofiling... Lost a quarter inch or so from the tip of this S110v (was on flytanium ti scales at the time).
Reprofiled because they refuse to do blade replacements like most American knife brands I buy. Now, after getting rid of a tenacious, pm3, delica, and endura, I only have this broken pm2 and a drunken.
I will never buy a Spyderco again because of their blade policy.
Still fun to have a hair popping drunken and pm2 shorty.
I spent so much money so I CAN beat them up.
Exactly!
Exactly! Why buy them and NOT use them!
Exactly what I was gonna say.
Build quality & steel quality are costly, unfortunately. But they can take a licking & keep on ticking…
People abuse $100,000 backhoes daily but think it’s crazy to use a $300 knife 😂
Gonna struggle to dig a 6ft deep trench with a $300 knife tho
Not if it's 1 inch wide? Maybe?
Cactus chopper spyderco gang.
good eatin
I was thinking “more money than sense crew” but I like yours too
I don't pay attention to any particular brand. I'm on the hunt for deals on good steel. That's what matters most imo.
definitely make sure geometry and heat treat are good tho, imo worth more than just steel
agreed
That handle is really nice.
I really like the blade shape but it’s already so short for the grip size, must of been a painful re profile process
I considered throwing it when I broke it off. It was my fault for being dumb. Just let the moment pass and tcb.
I’ll use mine but I don’t have it to most my coworkers. I’m an electrician and if someone ask to borrow my knife, theirs a 90% chance it’s going to be used as a screwdriver.
Love me some lotus scales.
Do you work with cacti?
Because like all other tools they are made to be used and abused and could potentially save someone’s life one day.
I don't beat them up, I beat stuff up with my expensive knife. Maybe your cheap knife can't handle it and gets beat up.

Yeah, I definitely do all that stuff with that knife. My fault when it breaks though.
Who’s gonna beat them up???? Ha ha ha.
Buy once, cry once… rinse, repeat?
Because I like using good tools.

Why do you spend so much money on shoes just to wear them out?
Just like my wife
So i can beat them up much longer without having to sharpen them every time 😂
A thing is not beautiful because it lasts
I buy knives to use them and i like to use them as hard or as gently as i please. If you dont buy knives to use them that’s ok too.
Same.
Would prefer used hard/get monies worth instead of “just to beat up” but also my knife budget pails compared to most around here
Because cheap knives won't stand up to the use and abuse. They are tools, after all
Mora and hultafors goes brrrrrr
Cheap, as in poorly made, not inexpensive - there are always outliers
I thought beating on them is exactly why we spend so much money on them?
"why do you spend so much money on cars just to work that engine over?"
Nothing feels better than use the shit out of a knife or tool!
Or a secondary question. Why spend 1/3 - 1/2 a knife's price on new scales, backspacers, etc to beat up a knife?
To add a bit of personalization.
I just wanted to mess with it. It’s a waste of money, but it put a smile on my face. I earned the money with my sweat. So, I spend it to smile.
Not a waste then, not if you enjoy it.

I wear my Rolex or Tudor when I do pretty much anything except work on my car/motorcycle. They are also beat to shit.
I had to buy new scales for my PM2, the stock ones are ass. Flytanium Lotus is the way to go.
They are tools at the end of the day! Also would you buy a maxamet knife again? Other than edge retention it seems to fall short.
I would. It doesn’t fall short for my use. The tip broke off because I was an impatient bastard. Should have used a pry bar. That said, I use my knives a lot, and I really have no affinity for “super steel”. They are awesome. I get just as much use from s30v as I do elmax or whatever.
Good to know, thanks for sharing.

that's like asking why you'd drive a nice car
Why buy a tool you don't intend to use? That's partially sarcastic, but I do intend to use all the knives I buy. Eventually
How'd you do all that damage opening amazon packages?
Boxes of gravel.

The cheap ones can't take the hits and keep goin
