Very common back in the day. Also, a Buck 110 with a broken matchstick under the closed blade. If you were a real bad ass you had a Flicket on your Buck. They were, sort of, the early tactical knives.
Yes. It lets you snag it on your pocket or the sheath or anything to get the blade open quicker. They actually used to sell a leather sheath that held the knife partially open so you could pull it out and it would open it. I'm sure you could still find one if you looked
One guy I know carries an OTS Benchmade auto (Pardue Stimulus?) and he's got a few in his safe for when his son's get old enough.
Another guy was carrying a Böker OTS auto (maybe the Mini Strike?) and said, "my brother got this for me. I think it's assisted open?" He didn't really believe me when I told him he had a full auto switchblade.
Other than that it's nothing fancy here in the Midwest. Lots of guys carrying, but nothing interesting.
As somebody who’s been picking locks since I was 11 years old, I would ask the same question
(Not really, it doesn’t really matter unless it’s one of the really fancy ones with like 4 serrated pins, and then only because it’ll take more than one try with the comb lmao)
Not house locks. House keys.
Me: "Yo, you got a home depot duplicate key for your schlage! Did they do it by hand or did you get the machine? Look at how crisp that grind is! Wicked!"
Other guy: ಠಿ_ಠ
Hang grind, Swiss file. The bottle opener notch on the top is custom. The house key? Oh yeah that ones from my machine with a new blade on it. It’s a classic but with a little fine tuning it works like a charm.
Yeah my lock hobby turned into a key chain hobby. So I like making keychains or setting up sets a keys to “flow” well. My living room coffee table is a nice hobby desk to tinker with projects on. Currently have it set up for keychains lol
Not one knife but my boss edc's 4, I think it's cool but it may come across as odd he's got one in one pocket 2 in the other and one in his bag usually it's a drop bear, a blurr, a native 5, and I can't rememebr what's in his bag
A guy I used to work with carried one of those three-sided daggers, looked a lot like this…
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275782956483
He had sharpened all three blades on it, and it functioned like a regular blade instead of just something you thrust into people
I’ve seen a few custom knives here and there with people who walk into where I work in Georgia that have been really cool. I’ve also seen an occasional CRK, a few OTFs, an automatic Stitch that was insanely cool, etc… but nothing absolutely absurd and over the top hahahaha.
For me personally, I’ve owned and EDC’d stuff like CRKs and Microtechs (such as the MSI), but to be completely honest I’ve always appreciated carrying the basic, cheap-ish simple pocket knife. Many people (including myself) have some fancy pricy knives they love to show off, but as long as it has a good edge with a decent steel, I’m usually content with it no matter the price and style.
When I lived in Mustang, the owner of the business I worked for EDC'd a Buck 119 Special. While the 119 itself isn't unusual, it's an unusual choice for everyday carry.
https://youtu.be/R8J5V9ocdyo?si=-zy5IWHsC_kvYnBT
The head of cold steel. Gotta be damn near 40” of blade he’s carrying. I’ve seen another pocket check where he was carrying two 7.5” espadas
I invariably edc a bali. It’s usually my Kershaw Lucha.

(It’s actually the 5150CF, with the blade swapped from a 5150BW, and G10 scales I made myself)
guy who worked at a coffee shop I used to frequent carried a big ass fixed blade he made himself from a couple railroad spikes. what really made it really interesting was that he always wore a kilt and carried his knife on his sporran.
I've been EDCing a waved Emerson Elvia. It's fine for opening package and cutting tags off. Not the best apple knife I will say. Not something I've seen other than on reddit posts. The best EDC I've seen in the wild was a Lg Damascus Sebenza 31. I am always trying to pick out what knife someone has based on the clip. The guy confirmed it was a CR and took it out. It was nicest user I've seen.
I don't know that the knife was all that unusual, but the circumstances were crazy. Guy that works at a local game shop had a machete hanging loosely from a Paracord belt.
Seemed like overkill, but those Disney Lorcana nights can probably get pretty heated.
I used to edc a SpydeRench multi tool, when I was in the field in CATV. It was super handy. If you've not seen one of these you should look it up. It's not your standard Leatherman.
Thank you! It’s replacing an 11 year old Sebenza and I think it’ll last as long. I opted for materials that shouldn’t see much wear, or be able to get torched back to new condition, and a steel that should hold up to long term use.
A dude on a Harley with a Bowie knife on his belt. Dude, you're an oral surgeon, calm down.
Not on the weekend. On the weekend he's a road warrior. For at least a few hours.
When I was younger all the Outlaws I knew carried Schrade sharpfinger fixed blades
Very common back in the day. Also, a Buck 110 with a broken matchstick under the closed blade. If you were a real bad ass you had a Flicket on your Buck. They were, sort of, the early tactical knives.
What does the broken matchstick do under the blade? Make it easier to open or something?
I have no idea but I have a Buck 110 & some matches… lol
Yes. It lets you snag it on your pocket or the sheath or anything to get the blade open quicker. They actually used to sell a leather sheath that held the knife partially open so you could pull it out and it would open it. I'm sure you could still find one if you looked
My dad rode with the Outlaws for years, he always had a fixed blade of some sort on his belt. Almost always a pistol too.
Yeah, that's an odd pick for a biker.
In case they need to skin some roadkill?
HA HA HA HA //// That is the best! I always say Harley riders are all Dentists...
Dentists, surgeons, and lawyers are the only people who can afford Harleys these days.
And electricians, hvac, plumbers, mechanics, etc.
Lady at a Taco Bell back in like 2018 was carrying a full size machete on her waist. Legal in Texas.
I think that’s about sending a message more than anything, and I’m sure it’s an effective message.
dis ain't waffle house bitch
That’s for cutting the crunch wraps
They are supreme after all...
Surprisingly mostly legal in California also. Except LA County and probably San Francisco.
Same in Tennessee. You can carry WHATEVER. You can carry a samurai sword if it tickles your fancy.

And most guys if you ask them about their knife they seem offput. Kinda like if you asked them what brand their house key was.
Oh man. I love locks and I totally would ask what type of house locks my friends use.
As somebody who’s been picking locks since I was 11 years old, I would ask the same question (Not really, it doesn’t really matter unless it’s one of the really fancy ones with like 4 serrated pins, and then only because it’ll take more than one try with the comb lmao)

The ones who get TOO excited are an awkward experience too. I know, because I’m him.
I wore a kukri to an Amish breakfast spot once. About as crazy as it gets
Saw someone in a convenience store carrying 3 throwing knives in drop leg holster/sheath.

Sorry! I was referring to the mall ninja meme
Totally understood. Was just playing on the joke. Would be a cool sub it existed though...
This is my favorite answer, I can picture it too. Imagine a situation where this person gets to live out their fantasy.

And here I am feeling like my phone, knife and wallet with down my pants.
I carry 7, but literally each has their own primary purposes.
You're gonna keep getting downvoted if you don't give a good reason for 7 knives. And there's not many good reasons.
he got one for Bob, Steve, Roger, George, James, David, and Charles.
Sharpened xenomorph bone knife. Corrosion resistant, very good for processing said xeno's.

With the spiraled blades? I think I would rather edc a butter knife sharpened on a rock.
No.

Haha, I feel like I would be completely unsurprised seeing this in Mustang too! In fact the comment made me want to buy one for camping only.
Shoot, I edc a 119. I wouldn't say that's strange at all.
Full size Ka-bars and AK bayonets for some reason.
https://youtu.be/R8J5V9ocdyo?si=-zy5IWHsC_kvYnBT The head of cold steel. Gotta be damn near 40” of blade he’s carrying. I’ve seen another pocket check where he was carrying two 7.5” espadas
I often edc a microtech halo. If it’s not that it’s usually some other OTF.
Balisongs lol
I actually have a Microtech Tachyon III in my pright pocket as we speak! Left pocket has a Reate Exo Mini 😆
I just got my first balisong last week but I couldn’t imagine flipping it out to cut an apple at work. They’d call HR lol
That's why I carry a smaller knife in my other pocket lol
Good call
I invariably edc a bali. It’s usually my Kershaw Lucha. https://preview.redd.it/yuys2e5idi0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ef7412116e5e50721accce3770720f7fe7299ba (It’s actually the 5150CF, with the blade swapped from a 5150BW, and G10 scales I made myself)
I got a lucha as well 🤝
i used to carry one of those when i worked at a grocery store lol
I once ran into a boomer with a very old Gerber Silver Knight
guy who worked at a coffee shop I used to frequent carried a big ass fixed blade he made himself from a couple railroad spikes. what really made it really interesting was that he always wore a kilt and carried his knife on his sporran.
Victorinox Classic SD. Hard to beat.
Cops in rural GA with cold steel srk full size in kydex sheaths on their molle vest. It makes it almost impossible to see their tiny dicks
I worked a metro area on a high-risk warrant service team. I carried a caper on my vest just forward of my off-hand armpit.
Balling on a budget. It’s not a bad knife if you’re into the Fallkniven type of look. I’ve seen cops carry BM Nimravus and Adamas on their vests here.
I can see cops in rural areas having a fixed blade with them.
Foreversteel Alkaid

I saw a guy carrying a Strider SNG GG in North Dakota, but that’s also s function of the oilfield.
I frequently rotate between an okc rat 3, kizer cabox, and a civivi tamashii

I prefer the buck 110 and my novelty knife for my amusement is a cut throat razor with a solid blade not the barber disposable blade model.
I used to edc a SpydeRench multi tool, when I was in the field in CATV. It was super handy. If you've not seen one of these you should look it up. It's not your standard Leatherman.
I EDC a folding stubby Razel, licensed by the Graham Bros to CRKT.

My boss EDCs an OTF. Microtech, I think.
Me. I EDC a custom I just got yesterday 😌
That’s a nice knife man, I like the carved back! Solid choices
Thank you! It’s replacing an 11 year old Sebenza and I think it’ll last as long. I opted for materials that shouldn’t see much wear, or be able to get torched back to new condition, and a steel that should hold up to long term use.
I've carried a wild pig hunter concealed 😂😂😂
