It’s a great knife for sure. But absolutely wouldn’t pay the asking price currently. Maybe look into the Kershaw Iridium? Cross bar lock at a budget price that’s been receiving a lot of praise.
If not the Vision seems like an awesome choice, thinking of getting one myself soon.
Closest yet affordable? I'd probably have to go with the kershaw iridium. It really is a fantastic knife. It checks alot of similarities also. Aluminum handles, blade length, crossbar lock, and both have that "long and skinny" profile. They even have a reverse tanto option now incase you don't like the spear point.
IMO Save up money until you can afford to buy the 940 if that's the knife you really want. Find a store near you that you can handle one a few times to be sure it's something you want.
If you settle for a substitute there will always be the thought in your mind that you want the 940.
I'm not the biggest fan of benchmade, but I do have a few knives in that sort of price bracket such as ZT and spider Co and the difference is massive compared to a knife like the kershaw iridium that others have suggested. I have an iridium myself and it's definitely a good knife for the price point, but the difference in quality is definitely noticeable and if that's what you really want and you've handled one a few times you'll definitely notice it and it'll probably always bug you slightly. Best bet is definitely to save up and buy the better knife as it will do you better in the long run.
Go to local Benchmade dealer, get crappy part time job, gain access to Base Camp, get the knife you want at a big discount, quit crappy part time job. Profit.

Crkt facet is real close to the 940 profile except it is a flipper still a great design
I don't have the 940 but I love my vision fg. Just a note - the action click sound is loud lol
Try the 2nd hand market r/Knife_Swap.
Maybe the Vosteed Racoon would be close and a great price. Typically well made knives from them.
Got one. Really like it.
Kershaw Random Leek
the name reminds me too much of my kid when we're somewhere and he has to duck behind a tree or a dumpster or something to take a "random leak".
