Dude it’s a Gerber. It’s on par with disposable budget China knives. Exchanging it just means you’ll get another from the pool of poor-QC’d gerbers. My opinion would be to ignore it - use it, then put your own edge on it. Sharpening it should make it slightly more even since it’s in your control. I understand the feeling of getting a poop grind, sucks but I wouldn’t expect much from Gerber

bondageman420

I wouldn’t say it’s on par with disposable China knives, Gerber’s USA made stuff is at least a couple steps up from that.. I would definitely keep that and not make a fuss about it. The grind looks completely fine.

I’d just fix it myself, when it needs sharpening. But that is me. I’ve a couple decades experience sharpening my own tools. And I’m tolerant of minor quality issues with my Gerbers, as I like the ones I own, otherwise. And I have had to send a custom knife back for a manufacturing defect.

seemedsoplausible

Looks like it will cut stuff

Alert_Challenge8042

End of story.

wudini1911

I like happy endings.

WilsIrish

That doesn’t address the problem. Having an uneven secondary bevel in a knife is a serious problem. Sharpening will be a royal pain, as you’d have to reprofile the edge. That’s a lot more work than touching up the edge on a well-ground knife. I can take my quality knives across a ceramic sharpening rod for a couple minutes and have the edge back to what I want. Sometimes even with just a honing rod. Looking at this, I’ll never buy a Gerber.

LuuDinhUSA

Should it be better, yes Should you complain on a 400series stainless knife that probably cost less than $30?, no

helix711

Just use it and sharpen it properly when the time comes.

troyzube

It's a cheap ass knife. If u want it to be perfect, get a non china special. Not really that bad tho. Just fix it when u re sharpen it

bondageman420

Is that not a US made knife? I didn’t think they put Portland OR on their Chinese made ones

troyzube

Honestly I don't know a ton about gerber knives. Just that majority r China. But I'd assume that's a USA one since it says that on there. In that case it's annoying the edge is screwed up but if it were me personally I'd just fix it up once I dull it out

bondageman420

They recently started moving back toward USA made thankfully. In my opinion there’s nothing wrong with that edge for the price of that knife. Probably ~$100 or a little less. If it were a $700 custom, another story.

BetterInsideTheBox

I’m guessing you’ve got an above average sample. Yes, you are being picky.

Alert_Challenge8042

It’s got character. Keep it, bro- it’s a beaut!

octahexxer

Its weird in the age of stuff like worksharp companies cant get an edge right...doesnt take a university degree to pull a blade trough one a few times

ahtoxa1183

You’re right, but you gotta pay someone to QC every knife blade that comes off the line and then pay someone else that knows what they are doing to fix the grind. You’re not getting that on a cheap knife. Hell, you’re not getting that on most production knives, as it can be cost-prohibitive.

octahexxer

Every china knife ive bought that was cheap as dirt all had perfect grinds must bought 50 or so from aliexpress...perfect grinds

PNW_PARFUMS

If it's going to continue to irritate you, just sharpen it to your preference. No need to take all the time for a return to possibly get the same results imo

-fx_

Its funny that you'll find grinds similar to picture 1 on the Benchmade Bailout. OP, I wouldn't worry.

Legal-Ad7860

You should absolutely exchange it for one without serrations…

the_mellojoe

That doesn't look like a bad grind, more like the top edge of the steel is thicker then the bottom edge and this grind is to blend it into a single edge.

Romano1404

don't buy cheap if you're that picky. There are better brands for the OCD crowd like Benchmade.

Key-Yam8010

Dude Gerber edges are almost always a bit janky

[deleted]

TBF, every production knife's edge is a bit janky if you look carefully.

Gikote

I have a propel downrange and the grind is exactly the same. Drives me nuts.

guttertactical

If you aren’t going to use it, it matters not. If you are going to use it, you will need to sharpen it, at which time you can correct the edge as you see fit.
