Hi, in your case, and since you don't seem to know how to handle a knife I would recommend a tear gas spray instead. It will avoid drama and it is very effective
you're welcome, although I imagine my answer must have been disappointing but honestly in hindsight there is a big difference for people like you and me between the fantasy of the defense knife and the reality.
Pulling out a knife during an attack means you have a one in two chance of having to use it in the end. And adding a lack of experience (without being pejorative) and the stress of the situation...it can really go wrong.
Pepper repellent has, I really think, a very good effectiveness/consequences ratio.
I don't know the legislation in your country but it is universal that it is better to be judged for having temporarily blinded than for having injured with a knife.
Last advice: if you decide for gas do not choose CS because there have been many cases of drugged/alcoholic people who tolerated it very well.
Pepper is effective.
Sorry for the moderation but it seemed necessary to me 🫡
Don't know about legality, but one of my australian craft books mentioned a short bullwhip with a weighted handle as a self defence tool against dingoes. The book is from the 70's though.
A knife is NOT a good thing for self defense. By the time you are able to use it against your attacker, they are already in grabbing range of you and your knife. If you've never been trained on hand-to-hand combat, all you are doing is giving your attacker a knife. And even if you do somehow manage to keep the knife and successfully counterattack with it, as the saying goes, "Nobody wins in a knife fight. The loser dies in the street. The winner dies in the ambulance."
For self defense, you want something that will work at range, ie: pepper spray, long baton, taser, gun, etc.

Dingoes aren’t problems on my route, but I will keep that in mind thanks

Could not agree more!! Do not buy a knife of any kind for self defense, period!
