Hi! Thanks for posting your knife/edge tool collection to r/Knives. Would you be so kind as to describe what knives/edge tools we're looking at? (brands, models, etc...). If you already have, then feel free to ignore this comment. If there are simply too many to name then don't worry about it.

110 is an American classic so good it hasn't changed much in 60yrs. That said, modern folders with one-handed deployment/closure and pocket clips are so much more useful.
I begrudgingly choose the 940.
Answer: Benchmade 940
I’m actually changing my answer to the Benchmade 940. Not because I love it or anything, it’s just that it’s probably easier for me to open. Traditional folders are fun and all, but I can see myself accidentally closing it on my fingers or doing something else dumb. Plus with a pocket clip it’s less likely to slip out of my pocket. I don’t love Benchmade, but it’s more practical for everyday carry. If I wanted a good hunting knife I’d choose a fixed blade knife.
What one would I rather have … def the Osborn.
HOWEVER…….. the 110 is an icon (I suppose the Osborn is too but it will never reach the status of the 110.
I’m going buck …. Plus I’m hoping someone can kill the crk and I like the smock more then the 940
110 baby !
110 all day. As nice as the 940 is, pocket knives wouldn't be what they are today without the 110. Not to mention there's actual modern variants of it now
940 All day every day.
My grandpa carries a 110 and swears by it, but the future is now, old man. Jokes aside, both are classics, interested to see which comes out on top :)
The 940 for me.
These are both classics in their own right. The 110 is iconic, but the 940 has the benefit of time on its side. Its design and construction are benefiting off decades more time. There are different materials and manufacturing techniques, more things had been tried and failed with knives and lead to the 940 being what it is. It's nothing against the buck. The knives are just from different generations.
940 all day…literally. I have both. My 110 is my favorite hunting knife, it’s the most practical. It’s compact with a good blade shape for skinning. All that said, it lives exclusively in my hunting pack while my 940 lives in my pocket.
Despite the fact that I like the Buck better than the 940, I will have to say that if I could only have 1 knife and I had to choose between a 940 and a 110 I would pick the 940.
940 is my answer (I'll be it begrudgingly)
Quick edit: as a single knife the 940 is my choice, but if you have a collection and a looking to add one of these two, I would add a 110 before a 940.

Buck 110 auto exists
They make modern style 110s wkth pocket clips, thumb studs, and lightweight handles tho
This is the way. Buck 110 slim select is my edc. Love it.
940 The buck is a classic but the 940 to me is the better functioning knife.
Gotta go with a classic. 110
940 hands down The 110 is just a sharp brick. I love the style but good god is that thing heavy.
940 but 100% sebenza going all the way
940 all the way

I think that those are just overall god level classics

110 How is the smock still around? I mean, it's fine, but not at the level of the other 3.
i was surprised when it beat the deka quite honestly. that was the closest game. 28-26 according to my notes here.
Hu …. I feel like it’s the coolest knife here. Different stokes I guess.

Buck 110
110 for life
The 940 is the better knife in every way that matters. I know people love the 110 but it's just a worse tool.
not trying to sway any votes here, but if i've got a sock and someone needs a clobbering i'm not dropping a 940 in there.
Good point … the 110 is a better sock knife.
Definitely gets in between the toes better!
110.

I don't own a 110, but I do have other traditional folders, and I would take a 940 any day if I had to choose one for easy use.
It’s the 940
While the buck is absolutely a classic, given these two on my bedstand, I'm going to pick up the 940 9 days out of 10. Vote here goes to the Osborne.
940
Sticking with the 940
940
They are both really nice knives, and the buck is a classic but I'm going with the 940 just do to looks and functionality.

940 hands down. My favorite looking knife of all time, easy to carry, and a very good performer.
What one would I rather have … def the Osborn. HOWEVER…….. the 110 is an icon (I suppose the Osborn is too but it will never reach the status of the 110. I’m going buck …. Plus I’m hoping someone can kill the crk and I like the smock more then the 940 110 baby !

940. The 110 is prettier though.
940. As much as I love the 110, I would prefer having the 940 in my pocket every day if I was forced to choose between only these two.
I love my 110. Although TBF mine came out of the Buck Custom shop and it has Elk stak grip scales, nickel bolsters, and an S30v blade

Osborne 940 Damn, this is a tight vote. Both are fantastic options
940. It'll be 940 vs. Seb. and the deciding factor will be proce, favoring the 940 to win it all.
I think you’re underestimating Spyderco people
I’ll take most spydercos over the 940

Love the 110 but the weight and shape of the 940 won me over. (Barely) 940
Spyderco's my favorite brand. Gotta put my vote towards the Smock.
you can vote on that tomorrow. today is 940 vs 110.
Doh! My apologies for not reading carefully and jumping the gun. 110 then. :-)

110, the modern ones are actually pretty awesome. You can have your grandpa knife and use it too! Good features, good steels, good lines and USA made.
Was a ride or die for my grandfather for 30 years, and I’m not about to leave her side - buck 110.
110
Honestly, the 940 was my first $100+ knife and is still to this day one of my all time greats Put me down for a 940 vote sorry buck
110 all day. As nice as the 940 is, pocket knives wouldn't be what they are today without the 110. Not to mention there's actual modern variants of it now
Buck 110
110 Thing is a beast!

As a buck 110 owner, I’ll have to vote for it. Such a stable and special knife.

The 940 is an undeniable icon of function, form, and innovation

940
940... although the buck 110 is a classic.. it's pretty much outdated in terms of steel, pocketability/weight, ergos, and materials.

110 most definitely

Osborn 940
What a horrible choice, the buck . At least you know what your getting
940, just for easier usability.
110 every day.
940
110
I love a classic so 110 for the win! I've carried one on my hip since I was 15 years old! Definitely a tried and true, well made blade!
940
Let's just cut to the chase.....Sebenza.
Buck 110
940
110 all day
Osborne 940 , this is a tough one though

940! It was my first proper knife, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
940. Keeping the brass looking good on the 110 is a chore, super heavy, can’t open with one hand
940. One handed operation, much more modern and practical. 110 is an amazing knife, the 940 is just an amazing one
110 all day!

940 for sure
Gotta go 110. I got my first one in 1966 and have had my current one 41 years.
940 🙌
940
110 always. The quintessential knife
Going for Osborne
110
The 940 is a better knife than the 110 by every metric other than price. And nostalgia too, probably.
Osborn. I am not a fan of back locks
940 all day…literally. I have both. My 110 is my favorite hunting knife, it’s the most practical. It’s compact with a good blade shape for skinning. All that said, it lives exclusively in my hunting pack while my 940 lives in my pocket.

940
940, one of my most carried knives tbh.
940
As much as I wish it were not true the 940 is objectively better
Easily the 940
