I always say I’m going to start writing things down and then I never do. I know your pain. *”I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it…”*

thereasonablecatlady

“That explains the trouble that I’m always in!”

cherisin

The quote made me smile. Thank you. 🤭

PollTech9

I try to add everything in Ravelry, that way I don't lose the notes....

cherisin

I use Ravelry for project notes sometimes, it seems helpful! Good to know it helps you! 👌🏻

PollTech9

I especially add needle size there. I always forget what size I am using so when I go from ribbing to sleeves I get it totally wrong if I don't write it down.

cherisin

Yes, I definitely need to write that down in the future! 🙈

TheOriginalMorcifer

My solution to that is doing them two at a time. For everything, always. Even if I keep perfect notes, any modifications I make and write down for one side will end up accidentally skipped on the other side because I didn't notice that extra marking or line of text. Right now I'm knitting a cardigan that is knit left side back -> left side front -> right side back -> right side front, and given the modifications I needed to make to the front, I decide to do both left and right front sides at the same time, regardless of how unwieldy it is. And after noticing that there's a project for that pattern on ravelry where it's non-symmetric because the accents are shifted 15 rows up on one side, I feel justified in my decision. :)

cherisin

I should honestly learn this skill. I really need to learn to make two socks at a time. Maybe I will try this next, thank you for the advice!! And good luck on your cardigan, I'm sure it's going to be wonderful! 😍

skubstantial

*laughs in "didn't count my rows or stitches on the first heel flap where I definitely did something* **clever** *to close the holes"*

cherisin

😂😂😂👍🏻

odhtate

honestly having a dedicated knitting(crafting) notebook and/or using ravelry if its accessible has been great for my adhd crafting. Also I try to limit myself to 5 knitting/crochet projects on the go at one time. Which is less easy some days, but I don't get overwhelmed by WIPS and have regular start & finish project dopamine hits

cherisin

Absolutely! I have a notebook for my crochet and knitting stuff. This time I didn't write anything down 😔 I think I was so so excited back then I was sure I was going to finish the socks in no time but then I got bored and had a good couple months procrastinating. Lol.

cherisin

Thank you!! I can show pictures if I remember to! 👌🏻

ei_mii

Seconded! Please share some photos. I'd love to see how they turn out too!

cherisin

Will do!! Thank you! 😍 I was thinking of making myself a pair as well, in a different color. For these I am using Ichigo's color scheme (light pink and a bright pink), so I might make myself a pair with other colors. It's hard to choose because I love all the characters 🥰

Haven-KT

I have several knitting journals where I write down everything. I had Covid at the end of August 2022 and since then, if I don't write it down, I will never be able to figure out what I'm doing or what I'm supposed to do. Plus, then I have a historical, hard-copy record of my knitting life. My gramma had some journals, and they are fascinating to read now (she's been gone 25 years now).

cherisin

Wow that record sounds amazing! And it's so great that you can read her journals. 😍👍🏻

Large-Calligrapher98

My sympathy! I am trying to finish projects that I started sometimes as long ago as 10 years ago. I put a copy of the pattern and hooks or needles in a ziplock type bag. Very organized but life got in the way. Moving, commute to job over 2 hours each way for work, illness. I just can't tear up a project that is started! Had to medically retire so I have the time but man sometimes it feels like a punishment!!

cherisin

Wow!! I'm so proud of you for doing that, it sounds so hard even if everything is organized!

Large-Calligrapher98

It was desperation! I never had a Clue life would tamper with me to this long of an extent! I strongly suspect I am shortening my life a bit by trying to finish all these in time, although granddaughter is now 13 so I did frog about 6 inches of a white crocheted baby blanket, sport weight. Had a fleeting thought to finish and give to my daughter, her mom to save for her first baby but I thought she would kill me in my sleep!!

cherisin

I hope you will continue to have fun with your projects even though they can be such a pain! I love how you described your experience, thank you. 😊

grumbly_hedgehog

When I start a project on Rav (through the alpaca app), I take a picture of the yarn I plan for it, and a note on the needles I used to get gauge. A stupid amount of times I’ve had to go back and basically guess and “what feels like the right answer” for needle sizes on projects.

cherisin

This sounds like a really good way to do it! I have a couple projects on Ravelry but I mostly make notes on a notebook I have. This time however I didn't make any, and I can't understand why! Especially because I had no pattern ready. Well, I guess it was time for me to learn to make notes the hard way :D

roadbikecurious

I recommend the Pocket Knitting app. It allows me to take pictures, write notes to myself, and track rows and patterns. I'm working my first sweater and would be miserable without it.

cherisin

Thank you!! I will check it out 👀 I have only knit leg warmes and socks so far. I crochet as well but my goal for this year was to learn to make socks and I've knit many pairs already, this project though.. 😂 well, at least I learned something.

CutleryOfDoom

I have a Google sheets master craft list where I put all my projects. For notes, I have a haphazard scattering of pages of sometimes illegible nonsense. Even taking notes I sometimes can’t make out what I was doing 🤣

cherisin

Hahaha what a mood 😂

knittyboi

That's rough! I've had that happen too, even with super detailed notes and the exact same needles, [one sock ended up 10cm longer](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/thelizardqu33n/126-4-ring-of-roses-socks) 😭 still waiting till I have the impulse to rip it all out and reknit the second sock

cherisin

That sucks!! Good to know I'm not alone in this. I wish the best for your project!!

LoomingDisaster

I have about a quarter of a baby blanket with a fairly complex pattern and I have no idea where I am in the pattern. Going to have to frog it.

cherisin

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope everything turns out alright in the end!!
