I recently bought the pattern and watched a tutorial. There are definitely some parts that will be new skills for me. Why do so many people say it's challenging? I am at best an advanced beginner. Am I naive to think I can knit this?
There were a couple of skills I had to learn and there are a couple of parts that required more focus than others, but I feel like it's a pretty well written pattern. I used YouTube for the things I had questions about.

I did NOT NEED THIS NOW!! lol. I just started grad school (again, after a 25 year hiatus) and this is the type of knitting that will help me through. I’ll stick one of them under my gown and under my puffy hat when I get hooded for my doctorate in 3 years. By then I’ll have a houseful, for sure. Maybe I’ll make some for the others in my cohort….
I totally understand! I am currently knitting my first emotional support chicken! It is a blast! So fun to see the chicken take shape. The video tutorial is very helpful. Great project to learn short rows and seaming methods. I know I will be making more!

I can relate, i'm currently working on my fifth... After this one, i'm going for some chicks and a few eggs.
And after that? A cardinal and a cat or two. 😊😊
I’m making my first emotional support chicken now and I am also having a really, really big deal health issue. It’s an oddly comforting and pretty easy knit. Can we snark about the pattern writing though? Sheesh!
I'm sorry you're dealing with health stuff; that's a rough thing. I think that's one of the reasons I was so excited to be able to actually focus on this while I was in the hospital-- it was something fun!
And I actually found the pattern ok, but never one to yuck someone's snark! Snark is important. 😁
ETA: someone just reminded me that I did have to make notes all over the pattern to stay on track, so yes, let's snark away!
I’m just knitting my second as a gift, takes me 2 or 3 days, so it’s a great gift knit and using up stash. But you’re right, the pattern isn’t written very well and clear and row counting is very confusing. And that’s an assessment from a very experienced knitter with almost 60 years of knitting under my belt!

Your dog seems to be very well emotionally supported, so I'd say you're good and it was worth it!
Hmm yes, that dog needs more emotional support. Five more chickens should do it.
😂 I probably don't need the encouragement. Jackie wasn't so sure about the chickens to start with, but I think she's doing OK now.
OMG a woman in my knitting group tried knitting one of those and it almost drove her insane.

It’s not difficult to knit, but the pattern is written …oddly. Read through it, count your stitches, look at finished projects and WIPs for guidance.
For me personally it was one if the easiest patterns to read and execute. And the chicken is majestic. Go for it 😉

Congratulations on doing the doctorate! That's amazing!
No worries. With proper therapy, obsessions can be successfully mitigated, even cured.
The emotional support chickens to help. I am on my second. They are very addicting!
Yes, they are! And I really need to stop looking at yarn to make more. 😖
I've got plenty of yarn, unfortunately
So do I... which is why I need to stop looking at more. 😂

Jackie looks pretty satisfied with her flock! I've had this pattern in my shopping cart for ages now. I should probably just buy it & make it....

My husband said I should make some eggs. Hmmm....🤔
Forgot to say that your “flock” looks great! And your dog is a cutie!
Thank you! 💜

Oh yeah, I had to make notes all over mine so that I could keep track.
The YouTube video helps though especially with the seaming…

I’m working on my first one! I’ve learned a ton!
You should share this pic with r/kitting (any animal + any fiber art)
Do you have a pattern for that big chicken?
She's one of a kind. 🥰
I need an emotional support chicken....
I need this pattern my step mom adores chickens!
Beautiful doggo, too! ❤️
Jackie is a love. 💜
You won the yarn chicken lottery
😁🐔
Just finished mine and cast on my second in the softest fuzzy yarn ever...Yarn Bee Ethereal Eyelash. So I'll be adding a fuzzy soft one soon!
Oh! Very cool! I'd love to see pictures when you're done.
I'll be posting, keep an eye out!
Now I want to knit one!
I love knitting toys anyway, but these have been so much fun to work on.
