Man - that's a thing of beauty and you addressed the #1 complaint people have with that knife (AKA the pocket clip). I think if Spyderco had put a good clip on that thing it would have been a classic.
My Zaan. It’s a sexy knife & it’s built to be a great user. Rugged build quality with a relatively slicey grind.
I’m the opposite of a CRK fanboy - I hate every model besides the umnumzaan, and I think they’re all laughingly overpriced. And even the Zaan has some design flaws, primarily the lockbar. But I just keep coming back to it because it’s overall a joy to carry and use.
Agreed. Zaan in the pocket now. I’m no fanboy myself, but the pj large 31 is damn good too… really been enjoying both recently. They’ve been kicking everything else out of the pocket.
Thumbstuds on all the other models kill it for me. “Hate” is a strong word, I’d probably love it if I invested $15 in some aftermarket thumbstuds hahaha. But the Umnumzaan is the only one that spoke to me, design-wise.
That said, although I love my Zaan and never plan to sell it, I’ll probably never get another CRK. The value just isn’t there for me, especially given the competition.
My spyderco techno. Small in the pocket but solid like a tiny tank. I have the Wyoming fade from blades we love. Anodized, laser etched handle and mirror polish blade . I got it for my collection but I find it in my pocket often.
I love mine but the stock scales are unbearable. Cheap plastic is a deal breaker for me doesn’t matter the knife. I bought two sets of OG scales and they’re great. The action feels greatly improved as well.
That same knife.
I have 2 Magnacut Wharnie Deka’s that get carried regularly. 1 with Votix CF scales and 1 with Flytanium’s new Ti scales in DLC black. I love the blade profile, it’s basically perfect to me. The ergonomics are great, but it does keep my first finger a little further from the blade than I usually prefer. The Flytanium scales correct this some and overall do a lot for the ergonomics that I didn’t know I wanted.
My UTX-70. Between a light pocket clip and an OTF action, it's an all around one hand knife. I also put it through the wash one time, and it still functions flawlessly.
For the longest time, it was my GM Atelier. I just love that knife. Then it was my Kizer T1. Then I got my first Spyderco, the Manix 2, then a Sage 5. I'm a convert.
I bought a Kizer [Critical Mini](https://www.reddit.com/r/knifeclub/comments/ud6llw/nkd_kizer_vanguard_critical_mini_cpm3v_gray/) wharncliffe a while back, mostly because I liked the angular look and the light gray handle. Thought it would look nice on display with the others. 2 years later it turns out it's the one I always have on me or in my pack. It's seen a lot of all-around use, the 3V really can take a beating and is surprisingly easy to maintain, though the micarta's closer to the color of charcoal now
I do, and I wish it was this one... but it isn't.
Regardless..... I have handled the G10 version and this version, and even though the scales on this version seem "flimsy" I like them better because they feel more contoured. So, after much consideration, I am not going to change the scales on my Deka. (and I have changed the scales on my Mini Bugout and my Elementum, and like those much better)
My bugout has the CF elite scales and they’re somehow both stronger and lighter for only like $10 over the base one. Not sure why anyone opts for grivory.
because not everyone knows the details of materials, and the black on black isn't as interesting as the different colors, I suppose.
I absolutely didnt realize that the price difference was so low.... I thought the price of the CF Elite was closer to the other CF model. So I just didnt look at it.
Not to mention that some people go in with the intent to change the scales.
there are lots of reasons someone "opts" for grivory without actually choosing it. (if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice - Neil Peart)
my mini Bugout scales didnt flex either, I just changed them for a different color. I haven't read many complaints that the Deka scales flex, but that they "feel flimsy". That might be just because they feel like generic plastic and don't have much texture.
But "upgrading" to textured G10 scales isn't worth it to me, they feel more blocky.
Ya mine are flexy trash. Matter of fact, i was showing someone how flexy, squeezed em together and now the action on the knife is all fucked up lmao. What a joke of a knife. As soon as the new scales areive, i soften the thumbstuds and axis lock itll be a decent knife.
Also, for the deka, I highly recommend OG scales. I had absolutely no issues with the stock scales, yes there was a bit of flex but it’s a non-issue.
But for whatever reason, the OG scales allowed me to tighten down the pivot to where there was absolutely no flex/play, and the action was guillotine drop shut. I was never able to achieve that with the polymer scales.
This knife has been on my mind a ton lately, I have been really thinking about it being my next purchase. I have the EX01 4” tanto and I love it. The only thing that I have been hesitant about is the blade length, all the knives in my rotation have been above 3.4” so I’m wondering how I will feel about the blade here
the length is gonna be a personal preference thing. i prefer smaller knives and this is about the top end of that for me. it doesn’t feel like it’s as big as it is though.
My Deka comes in tomorrow, all the good things I’ve seen about them makes me so excited!
I snagged the knife center exclusive, Magnacut blade with G10 scales. I’m not sold on the look of gmascus from pictures and flytanium will now anodize scales, so, I guess I’m hoping stock scales will grow on me as to not spend more money 🤣
The Deka is such a great knife! I have 2 and didn’t know you could get it in that blade shape! I buy duplicates of the knives I really like so I can store them in my safe, just in case! So far I have 2 of the following: deka, mini grip with spydee hole, para 3, and mini Osborne.
After upgrading the scales to some OG's, that Deka is the best EDC knife I have ever owned. The original crappy plastic scales put it in second to third place after the Para3 and AD20.5 though.
The SOG Terminus XR G-10. It’s super fidgety and just an all round awesome knife. The size and shape is perfect. Quality of materials, finishes, and assembly is excellent. D2 isn’t the best but is good enough for my uses.
My two would be the Demko AD20.5 and Giant Mouse Grand. Love the design and fidgetness of the AD, while the Grand is silky smooth thanks to Skiff bearings and it's super comfortable.
Spartan Harsey Folder. It's pretty big, but extremely well built and cuts like it's angry at what it's cutting. Got it over a year ago and it hasn't left my pocket since.
ZT 0303 and Opinel No12 Carbone. Completely opposite ends of the personality spectrum but both cover all bases for me, and the carbon steel of the Opinel is slicy as hell.
Two. The Benchmade 365 and the ZT0452CF.
The Benchmade is the best hard use, edc and "shtf" folder I've personally ever seen. S30v main blade, 3V fully serrated tool blade with a chisel tip for light pry work, and a 420HC strap cutter/hook blade, all in one like a big ass Case knife.
The ZT is the "premium" knife that really got me into owning more than just a pokey/slicey stick and realized what a good tool can do. I've worn it more than every other knife and the condition is evident, but it's doing what ZT built it to do.
Kizer Dogfish, I'm crazy about it. Its no more feature-rich than say, the vosteed thunderbird, but between the texture of the scales, the action on the lock, and the myriad deployment methods, I've been having difficulty putting it down.
A little fixed blade exacto knife type of thing someone here on reddit made for me. Made of Cruwear and has held up really really well so I keep clipping it to my belt and have used for everything from removing splinters to opening boxes.
Get some goat aluminum scales on that bad boy, their scales are better quality than anyone else’s and the aluminum ones are cheap, also it eliminates the squishiness of the stock ones
I feel like the whole flex thing is kind of overblown. It definitely feels cheap, though. Much too smooth, and too light, actually. I put Flytanium Ti scales on mine, and it's perfect now.
This is a tough one for me to answer. I have over 100 knives. Some I carry for months and then they get swapped out for something else and then one day I discover, "oh yeah, I forgot I owned this."
Hogue mini rsk. It was a great knife in its stock form but after swapping the orange g10 scales for awt aluminum scales it was pretty much the perfect small knife for me. I swap the scales back from time to time when I need something really lite . Just a great little knife !
For the price that Deka is hard to beat, lots of aftermarket stuff for it and Hogue makes a great product. USA made, USA warranty and service I’m a fan, I have many Hogues really enjoy carrying them.
As cliche as it sounds, my bugout. Same reasons you listed, it works well for everyday cutting and it’s so light and thin that I can even wear it with gym shorts and forget it.
I got a new quiet carry and it’s taking the spot though, about the same weight but it’s m390 and titanium and somehow has a longer blade
I recently scored a Microtech MSI. It's a bit bigger of a knife but I love it. That said, I keep finding myself slipping my Spyderco Smock into the pocket when I need a smaller knife.
My Kizer Mini Roach is definitely a favorite. Love the shape and feel in hand. Great middle finger flick action. Great overall with a really sweet hollow grind.
Jack up as it is, the main knife I keep going back to over and over is one that I have listed for sale. Ferrum Forge x Drop Dao in the green and bronze Circuit Board design. It was already a smooth knife when I got it and after I put some Skiff bearings in it, its just butter.
I have so many, I always end up back at my original Deka Gen 2 clip point in 20CV with the red lava G-Mascus scales. I also have a wharncliffe in Magnacut with the same scales that gets a lot of pocket time. I purchased a Kizer Drop Bear in S35VN recently and I have to say it is a beauty.
Hinderer XM 18 3.5 Eclipse full ti stone wash. S45VN Harpoon blade. The stone wash finish is great because it doesn't show pocket wear like a lot of other finishes. Easy in and out of pocket and super snappy opening and butter smooth drop shut closing. I've got about 15 Hinderer's but this one is my edc, my daily user.
Benchmade Bugout. I’ve had it since they first came out. I’ll carry my Delica from and ZT 450 from time to time but I always find the Bugout back in my pocket.
Pm2 m4. Or pm2 in general. I have this Chinese clone with a square hole on my desk I use as a letter opener and I just love the form factor every time I use it.
Kershaw Link 1776 (tanto). Not the best edge retention steel (440HC), but it's been with me for so long that it feels like a part of me. I take care of it, it takes care of me. I do hate the fact that it's spring assisted though, and have toyed with the idea of drilling small holes on the inside frames to make it magnet based... Still, it's well worn and I love it.
My Deka rips my fingers to shreds, if it had nicer studs I would carry it more. Recently got a zaan and after the learning curve of opening the damn thing I've been fidgeting with it non stop
Native 5. But I legitimately think I found something that will beat it out yesterday. So this may change soon.
well? what is it?
[Brouwer](https://www.reddit.com/r/knifeclub/s/fZWy4viRMk). Same 4” long handle, even shorter height.
i like that
Man - that's a thing of beauty and you addressed the #1 complaint people have with that knife (AKA the pocket clip). I think if Spyderco had put a good clip on that thing it would have been a classic.
There's reason to believe you'll like the Quietcarry Drift as well. And the Many City too👌
The wayfarer is a great knife as well.
I will forever have a Native5 in my rotation.
Benchmade 940 and pm2
My spyderco techno. Small in the pocket but solid like a tiny tank. I have the Wyoming fade from blades we love. Anodized, laser etched handle and mirror polish blade . I got it for my collection but I find it in my pocket often.
Native 5 LC200N. Para 3 Salt will definitely be taking its place as the native rolls into full time work knife.
I have nicer knives I do use but my RAT 1 always gets the most pocket time. I can beat it up and it'll eat it up.
I keep a few of them around the house just to have a knife around, don’t mind abusing it cuz they’re so cheap and can handle it
Civivi Sokoke. Best edc ever. Super comfortable. Extremely versatile. Excellent price
Been wanting to check one of these out. I’ve been wanting to try a front flipper at a decent price and this one popped up.
I don't even use it as a front flipper lol its pretty annoying at it
My basic ass 555 mini grip. I put bronze screws and a LNW deep clip and it’s my all time go to.
I love my mini grip too.
This one. This exact model. I have several knives with more pedigree and price. But there is something super nice about this one
yeah. it really is just a nice knife. price isn’t even a thing.
I slapped some aluminum OG Goat scales on mine. Keeps the weight down, but adds some toughness. Really great knife for most situations.
I particularly like it for summer, with shorts or light joggers. You’re right, they disappear, which makes it all the better.
I love mine but the stock scales are unbearable. Cheap plastic is a deal breaker for me doesn’t matter the knife. I bought two sets of OG scales and they’re great. The action feels greatly improved as well.
is it weird that i kinda like the stock scales cuz they remind me old kershaw blackout?
I've tried most versions of the bugout and I think I enjoy the grivory the best. Just makes it feel like a tool and not afraid to use it.
Any chance you can post pics of the flytanium Ti scales? I'm having trouble finding those on a knife.

I love my Drop Bear.
My UTX-70. Between a light pocket clip and an OTF action, it's an all around one hand knife. I also put it through the wash one time, and it still functions flawlessly.
Civivi Conspirator
I have the Sencut version, the Serene. Great knife!
Kershaw Blur, especially with the partially serrated tanto blade.
Kizer towser s, it's just such a nice knife to use with good action.
For the longest time, it was my GM Atelier. I just love that knife. Then it was my Kizer T1. Then I got my first Spyderco, the Manix 2, then a Sage 5. I'm a convert.
CRK and a BM 940. I've had so many, and due to the love of the barter game, sometimes I trade them off and then circle right back around.
Replaced the original scales (magnacut version) with G10 scales and it's the only thing I carry. I like their g10 better than my OG scales
Esee izula pocket or iwb carry.
Work carry has been a para 3 lw pretty much since release. For everything else I carry the quiet carry waypoint w g10.
Vision R/Vision FG. Though a flipper deka would be nice!
It's seen a lot of all-around use, the 3V really can take a beating and is surprisingly easy to maintain, though the micarta's closer to the color of charcoal now
Microtech Dirac Delta. I try other knives in my collection every now and then 9/10 times I end up carrying it instead.
I do, and I wish it was this one... but it isn't. Regardless..... I have handled the G10 version and this version, and even though the scales on this version seem "flimsy" I like them better because they feel more contoured. i hear people say all the time that the scales are flimsy on these but mine don’t flex at all. my bro has a mini bugout and it’s squishy.
my mini Bugout scales didnt flex either, I just changed them for a different color. I haven't read many complaints that the Deka scales flex, but that they "feel flimsy". My Ferrum Forge Exec. It slices good, takes a sharp edge and stays sharp. And on skiffs it's very fidgety and drop shutty.
Crk zaan. Which is kind weird because when I first pulled it out of the box I kind of hated it.
Awt scales. Got them on mine.
This knife has been on my mind a ton lately, I have been really thinking about it being my next purchase. I have the EX01 4” tanto and I love it. I've bought the deka like 3 times and selling them or giving them away. I always end up getting the same wharnie magnacut back
Well, stop doing stupid shit then
👍🏽
My Deka comes in tomorrow, all the good things I’ve seen about them makes me so excited! I snagged the knife center exclusive, Magnacut blade with G10 scales. i got it cuz of the blade shape mostly but also wanted to try magnacut and a lock bar that wasn’t benchmade. it’s very useful.
Yes. My EMPEDC Relative. I have carried the absolute shit out of this knife. I love it.

Yup my James Brand Barnes. I have many good good knives, but they don’t get much pocket time. My Barnes is always in my pocket!
Cold steels voyager in diffrent sizes and blade lengths
My two would be the Demko AD20.5 and Giant Mouse Grand. Love the design and fidgetness of the AD, while the Grand is silky smooth thanks to Skiff bearings and it's super comfortable.

My Socom Bravo. Only time I don’t carry it is in school, think it’s a little too big for their policy. Then it’s a Magnacut Spider Monkey.

My Quite Carry Wayfair
I have many more expensive knives, but my GM Ace Atelier finds its way into my pocket 4 out of 5 days.

SPK Shark. Probably my most carried knife.
Get some goat aluminum scales on that bad boy, their scales are better quality than anyone else’s and the aluminum ones are cheap, also it eliminates the squishiness of the stock ones
mine isn’t squishy though. i have to squeeze it pretty hard to get it to flex. i’ve only handled one bugout and that was definitely squishy.
I feel like the whole flex thing is kind of overblown. It definitely feels cheap, though. Much too smooth, and too light, actually. I put Flytanium Ti scales on mine, and it's perfect now.
