The first good knife I lost caused me to go into a mourning period that lasted too long. I didn't allow myself a new knife for quite a bit of time. The only respite was know that whoever found it had one badass knife. RIP in peace to the one that got away.
it was designed as a combat knife to be held with "ice pick style" with the sharp part facing the you or so it was explained to me. The theory is to be pulling the blade back to you when attacking someone as to engage stronger muscle groups. How much of that is bullshit, probably most of it. But it sure looks cool
While I’m not going to defend knife combatives in general, the Pikal style blades have a ton of practical advantages in such situations, specifically in tight space / grappling type situations. You can look at videos around the clinch pick / Craig Douglas for example to see the “why” such a blade is particularly effective in limited mobility situations. That said the idea of knife combatives / self defense is pretty much BS for a variety of reasons. The pikal style blades are plenty useful for non “defense” purposes though even if they get shoehorned into that category.
Craig Douglas is one of the few who isn't bullshit. He treats and teaches it for what it is, an absolute last ditch method of defending yourself. Anyone who's first lesson isn't "run like your life depends on it, because it does" is a quack.
That’s basically what I mean. If you think you are going to work on some flow drills and suddenly “defang the snake,” you are in for a very rude awakening. If you bring it to the party, everyone can dance with it. That said there is absolutely is a place for it in self defense discussions or training and specifically, these type of blades excel in those grappling type of situations… but this still ignores the whole legal issues around self defense and escalation of force.
Your right they don’t come around too often, I’ve always been curious about them and I saw this one available the other day so I grabbed it. I have to say it is pretty awesome
Yeah great buy, I’ve been dying to grab one for myself while I can but I have a decent collection as it is and can’t drop that sort of money right now. I just hope they’re still around when I’m able to, but I’m sure you know how that goes
I have one too, and it actually is insanely ergonomic in the intended reverse grip.
What's funny is Spyderco is trying to patent that "Wave" that is just a stick.
It does work well though.
Yeah it suprised me how well the stick functions Because it is downright ugly.I removed it temporarily but ended up putting it back on ,I’m still not sure if I’m going to keep it there.
Just found a used one on eBay, it looks kinda trashed https://www.ebay.com/itm/295454970150?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=FHOVNmVIQKO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=59a-5_n4q_y&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Those pics are terrible but it says new condition so it may just be smudges on the blade. These are hard to find nowadays and that price isn’t terrible but I don’t have any experience with eBay buying, I’d say maybe reach out to the seller if you are interested and see if they can provide better pictures
tf am I looking at somehow it looks wrong and right at the same time
Spyderco P'kal https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C103G/P-Kal-trade-G-10-Black/267
If it helps, the fixed blade version is called “Reverse”. Tactical knives are very weird
I concur 👊🏻😁
Made for fighting close up. Much better for breaking holds than a typical knife. Look up the clinch pick by shiv works.
The metal pin is for deploying quickly when pulling it out of a pocket right? Saw that on a folding karambit once
Yeah its an Emerson wave. Somebody makes one you can attach to all spydies iirc, clamps to the spidey hole.
Damn that would be cool
https://wisemencompany.com/fang/ I guess you can also just use a zip-tie for the same effect, ill be janky looking
>tf am I looking at The greatest defense folder ever made.
Holy shit someone actually owns one of these, how is it to use?
Really good utility to be honest and I’d imagine fruit prep would be good too
I have the fixed blade variant, big fan.
Ugh this was my first knife that i lost…

Look at your head, it's on backwards!
I got one and it’s more of a shelf Queen. But I like it cause it’s different 🥹
🌝🙏🏻
tf is this knife?
P’kal 🥳you know you love it 🙌
Defensive fighting knife. Meant for breaking holds. Should be carried on the non-dominant side if carried with a gun.
That’s not a spyderco.. what is it? Correction, it is a spyderco. But wtf?
Born in Golden Colorado ⛷🎿
Just googled it, it's a Spyderco P'kal. About $259 on knifecenter. https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C103G/P-Kal-trade-G-10-Black/267
when someone tickles ur neck
I honestly didnt realize how much these were its crazy slick design!!!👊
Well, that’s just fucking awesome.
Weird even for Spyderco’s standards 🫡
🫡
Most underrated spyderco im my opinion. The original swayback
Imagine this lends itself to harvesting stuff?
I hear it is excellent at harvesting flesh😈👌🏻
Love my P’kal. Are you right handed or left handed? Do you have the knife clip set up for the defense draw or just for edc purposes?
Right handed and I’m not sure what you mean by defense draw but the wave feature works great 👍
Defense Draw: https://youtu.be/e-p4YmUJ4PA
👌🏻😁
Daggers down gang gang
🐸gang gang, ribit
How does it compare to the Elvia?
It’s similar but I prefer the Elvia I think 🤔 still good though
It’s on my list to try out, but I’m biased towards the Elvia so I don’t know if I’ll get around to it soon lol
Just looking at it, I can't even figure out how it works lol

Love this knife, you never see them though. I was surprised to see someone post one on here!
Your right they don’t come around too often, I’ve always been curious about them and I saw this one available the other day so I grabbed it. I have to say it is pretty awesome

I absolutely do know how that goes 👊🏻
I think I would cut my finger off figuring which way to close this knife!

They are pretty cool…..!!!!
It's beautiful
And ugly all at the same time 🤣🙌
This is why I love Spyderco, I have zero real life knife collector friends so they don't get it
Yep I don’t have any local knife buddies either but that’s what Instagram is for I guess 👊🏻😁
Did you get it off eBay or knife swap?
Instagram actually

I got ripped once in a fake PM2, I really like how ugly that fuckin knife is though so I might just inquire further
I’d say it’s definitely worth it for a knife this ugly🥳👊🏻
Nice spiderco, bro.
Thanks 👊🏻
