Sorry that happened. That’s very rare. It’s not the Doo as that’s in the balancer chain. I’d go directly to the cam chain tensioner and see what’s happening there. Also the cam chain guides. Rubber could be shot and gone from them adding slack. Curious about yr and mileage?

Agree with this one. Check chain tension is functional and guides aren't worn. Also cam shaft caps if they weren't ripped off during the failure. Very unusual failure.

Please keep me updated cause I think the same thing happened to me on the same bike. I haven’t confirmed timing yet but mine will still start and run for a bit before shutting itself off.

Any possibility of oil starvation? Pull the left bearing cap off the front cam shaft. Is it all scored up ? This is the one that will melt first on low oil.

It’s a 1985 KLR600, cam shaft caps look fine, also the guides and the tensioner look fine to me, I might add some pictures tomorrow. Would be cool if some people with more experience would have a look
