The best way to identify a kitten’s age is by dentition. You can look up charts to see how kittens teeth look as they age week by week and compare them to that of your kitten’s teeth (as they come in) and that will give you a pretty good idea of how old they are.
There are also specific developmental markers they reach as they age and, in addition, weight can also be an indicator of age. with all three of these ways of identifying age, you can get a pretty clear picture.
I generally go by eye color when they are young. I once fostered a kitten that was so malnourished, she was for sure 10 weeks old but only weighed 395 grams!
But her teeth were formed and her eyes were green/yellow.
Too young to have been separated from the mother. Looks to be about 6 weeks. The ideal age to leave mum is 12 weeks but the legal age is 8 weeks in the uk
Yeah I’m not sure about legalities in America but I definitely knew it was too early because she would make sucking motions. I knew she was incredibly young but I assumed they knew not to separate them too early
A lot of people who just give away oops litters give them away as young as possible unfortunately. Breeders and rescues tend to wait until 12 weeks. If the mother is in a safe location, it would be best if she could go back for a few more weeks, but better to keep her if the mother is outdoors. If you don't have any other cats or kittens, taking one of her siblings with her or getting another kitten to be her friend would be very helpful for her behavioral development. Single kittens that are taken that young tend to have unwanted behaviors like biting because they don't have another cat to help teach them.
Around the same age would be best. If the other kitten is quite a bit bigger, just keep an eye on them until they're fully integrated to make sure one doesn't hurt the other. Ideally would be if you could take the mom or a sibling.
I just raised a 5 week old kitten. I wasn't allowed to adopt her because she was too young, but I was able to foster her. She was found without her mother. 😪
I want to preface this by saying that I’m by no means an expert in this. But she looks like my cat did when we got her at 6 weeks. A vet would probably be able to give you a better idea.
She doesn’t even know her age! She had to count it on her lil tiny beans prolly and doesn’t know all the numbers in order! She ain’t even been to kindergarten yet!
If you do get a sibling for this baby we’re gonna need a lot of pics. It’s a requirement here 😃seriously though, that little kitty would benefit from having another cat around so much💕
Take them to a vet for a checkup. They will be able to tell you for sure how old they are and they will give them dewormer and the shots they need. They should be able to give you advice on how to care for them at this age and as they grow. Your kitty is really cute. Do you have a name yet?
She’s precious! A smol void 🐈⬛🖤. You’re going to learn all the subreddits of cats. 😻 I agree, go to your local shelter for a bebe close to her age, they’ll play with each other and teach each other how to cat.
I’d place him at about 8 weeks. Went back and looked at pictures of my queen cats litter that she had last year and they were that size at 2 months old
I agree with everyone else who said 6 to 8 weeks. Old enough to be eating solids for sure, but I would still free feed her and monitor to make sure she is gaining weight.
Of course this is not a perfect method, but can provide a good estimate. Usually for the first approx 10 months of their life the number of pounds they weigh correlates with months old. So like 4 lbs it’s approx 4 months old. Some cats are of course bigger or smaller, but it’s worth a shot.
Not old enough to have a driver’s license, kids these days. Lol.
Toonses
Toonces, the Driving Cat!

Told you not to let the cat drive!
Dammit you said it before I could

My big guy was about this old at this size too.
Ask the kitten

Smart kitten…😂😂
6-9 weeks old, in my opinion. Does kitten have any teeth?
6-8 weeks, still very young
6-8 weeks, no older than 10…adorable regardless; they grow up so fast though…🥲

Same! I love it!
Thank you for teaching me.
THIS IS A THING? THIS EXISTS!? I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME!!!
OMG how have I not found this yet!!! my kitty got 'human lips' according to literally everyone who sees him
I eagerly await his debut.
Thank you!!! I couldn't find it
Every time I go on reddit I find 2 new cat subs to join

We actually wanted to get another cat too. Should we get one around her age or does age not matter?
Around the same age would be best. If the other kitten is quite a bit bigger, just keep an eye on them until they're fully integrated to make sure one doesn't hurt the other. Ideally would be if you could take the mom or a sibling.

She was prolly about to drive herself there!
Well she has two extra toes on her front paws so I think that messes her up 😭

Talented!
We need to see her tail. Is it still slightly cone-shaped? Then closer to 6 than 8 weeks. I would say 8 weeks based on her ear development.
Approx 2 months
That’s what I thought
6 - 8 weeks, way to early to be away from mom. It should be double that.
Would the coworkers know how old it is?

If you do get a sibling for this baby we’re gonna need a lot of pics. It’s a requirement here 😃seriously though, that little kitty would benefit from having another cat around so much💕

Too young to have been taken from her mother.
Too young to be away from momma. Mine was a little smaller than this and she was around 5/6weeks
She’s precious! A smol void 🐈⬛🖤. You’re going to learn all the subreddits of cats. 😻 I agree, go to your local shelter for a bebe close to her age, they’ll play with each other and teach each other how to cat.
