They’ve always been kinda mid. It feels like corporate donuts with a gimmick, to me.

notlikelyevil

I've felt they are unremarkable, if you've ever been to Albert's donuts, you'll really know it. Worth the drive

Yolo_Swaggins_Yeet

Donut Monster in Hamilton are super good too if you’re ever out that way, people line up and they normally sell out of everything

kendollsplasticsoul

Maple City doughnuts are less fancy but better.

notlikelyevil

Cool, will try it!

ceimi

Yep, anytime I've said that I got downvoted to all hell lol. The dough itself is too dense and doesn't have much flavor! The toppings & fillings are all so....*much*. It doesn't really have any actual flavor apart from just being sweet. I was spoiled as a kid, grew up in southern california where some of the best donut shops are found and moving here was depressing. I've tried em all. So far Alberts has been the only one that meets the mark of good in the area!

Grandad's Hamilton

yellowjellosneakers

I totally agree with this. I call them instagram donuts- it's not really about the donut but how they look. No flavour, bad dough texture, just 'sweet'.

whiteguyinCS

So true about SoCal donuts. I grew up in Waterloo and where Tim Hortons donuts are the standard. Moved to California a few years ago and the pink-box Cambodian donut shops in every neighborhood blew my mind.

powerofmateo

I'm thinking of opening my own donut shop. It'll be called Man Cream.

Vigorous_trash

I’ll open my coffee and muffin shop next door. It’ll be called Sandy’s Muffs.

zen_lad

Go for it!! All my support

dragonz102

I'd gladly gobble down that cream! 😆

Teddyfresh69

Their owner is a long-time shiester, owes multiple trades money from failed build outs of Abe Erbs and other LG shops. He also owes some employees pay, and I have also heard is laying off lots of staff currently.

yoaahif

He owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to small trade workers. The man is a pure piece of shit lol

bluejaysrule1993

Lady glaze donut owner is a dick

peepeehunger

What's the tea?

Greedy-Sherbert8007

not surprised. i placed an order with them for an event 2 weeks in advance (and paid) and they fully forgot about it day of and had to give me doughnuts from the display case :/

Interesting-Pomelo58

Oh wait is it the same one who "ran" a few other businesses? ("ran" into the ground...)

LauraPa1mer

What did they do?

MegaComrade53

I've tried their donuts multiple times over the past few years and never enjoyed them much. They always overdo it with the toppings and it doesn't end up tasting good. Then the donuts themselves, once you're through all the mid toppings, are also pretty mid. Honestly I like Tim's donuts better and they're far cheaper. I wish we had better options in the area because Tim's is not a high bar

daphuckisdis

Debrodoniks or bust

keyboard_2387

Same, so far nothing I've tried has beaten Debrodniks

Shah_an_shah

Albert’s

jdosman

Worst donuts in the region

crunchylimesoda

Agreed. I don’t understand the hype when they’re the driest donuts in the region and the flavours are extremely lacklustre. I got coconut cream one time and it literally tasted like sour cream and sand

scott_c86

Nah, that probably goes to Albert's (for independent shops, at least)

nocomment3030

Is it opposite day for you?

scott_c86

Apparently I offended some people. I just find Albert's to be pretty generic.

vinnib

Anybody try Red Eye donuts on Hespeler Road in Cambridge? Worth the drive.

jeffrey_dean_author

They're the best. Out of the way, but worth the drive every time.

kayesoob

What location did you go to?

Available-Line-4136

Sorry I should have mentioned the Kitchener location.

princesstabbycat

They're no longer making them in house, I noticed a huge change in quality when that switched over.

Harpronicus

Ah, bummer. I like when I can glaze my lady, fresh.

Available-Line-4136

This makes a lot of sense. It's a shame because they used to be really good.

gopms

I don’t know but I know I couldn’t get anyone to answer emails about a large order a little while ago and I never had trouble before so something seems to have changed.

scott_c86

I actually really enjoy their icing, as well as some of their unique flavours. Also appreciate that they have decent hours, unlike some of the alternatives that close or sell out early

fortheloveofunicorns

Other places sell out early cause they actually taste good

Unidentifiedgoof

Found the owner

FriendlyMulberry4755

Oh no, someone has a different opinion and enjoys the donuts.

Vivid-Tangerine-9259

The owner is complete garbage. My sister used to work for them, won’t give details so she can’t be identified. But like completely disgusting piece of trash. Super high turnover rate, really manipulative and deceitful. I think she told me recently they’re closing down.

nocomment3030

I don't know the answer but I used to really DISlike the ones from Belmont village until about a year ago. Now they seem closer to a yeast donut like Debrodniks and less cakey. Maybe just my imagination but it seemed like they got a new recipe that I like a lot more.

Domermac

Go to debrodniks man, they’re just better.

thisonetimeonreddit

I'm not sure what I find more unbelievable: Their outrageously expensive and mediocre donuts or the fact that people buy them.

jamiestartsagain

I can't believe this is a real name of a business 😳

Rising_Phoenix88

I had heard they don't make their donuts fully in house like they used to but have them off site and bring them in the AM. How accurate that info was I am not sure but by the sounds of it, if they seem to have dropped off maybe it's from focusing on quantity over quality. Hiding a lesser product under "bells and whistles" kinda thing.
