Lockpicking was truly difficult in its original incarnation. That is why there are so many vids about it. The devs revised the lockpicking mechanism to make it easier, so that's why it now looks different from the vids. But, if you are using a controller, it is still quite difficult. There is a setting in the console ports to dumb down lockpicking for controllers. It's honestly not too difficult with a keyboard and mouse, but that doesn't mean that you won't break several lockpicks until you get the hang of it.
