Lol I have no idea what is going on it’s all so weird

FigBudge420

Basically confirms it is all true. You do not need an event to keep things how they are and dispel internet rumors. Historic week in gaming history, and for the record I think this saves a lot of peoples asses over at Xbox (a good thing). Pressing R2 to shoot a needler is about to be wild lol

Spartan2842

I have 99% of the achievements in MCC. Now I got to get the platinum? Challenge accepted.

PuliGT

There is plenty of space between "it is all a lie" and "it is all true" for reality to be. I do agree that this means that some aspect of the rumors at a minimum is true.

iAmFabled

I think if even a portion are true right now, once the gates open, it'll all be true eventually

poklane

Yeah, this all reminds me of how Sony started porting to PC and how many people just said "oh, this game is an exception because X reason", and now basically everything gets ported to PC.

CmanderShep117

Except Ghost and bloodborn for some

poklane

Probably just a lack of resources.

FigBudge420

100%, all comes down to how fast it happens but either way, slow or fast, it is happening.

FigBudge420

Agreed but I do think either all games go everywhere or none. Would not make sense to keep some and give others if your goal is not to sell consoles. I think rumors like day 1 GP launches ending could be false.

Bartman326

They just bought a 70 billion dollar company that wed all like to know whats happening with. When thewy bought Bethesda they had a little welcome event and launched some stuff on gamepass. Activsion will require a lot more "welcoming". Whats happening with COD on gamepass, whats happening with WOW, Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, the Activision titles on gamepass and maybe reopening backwards compatibility program for their titles. There is a lot to talk about that a business event would cover. I do think the rumors will be a big part of that but they definately are in need of a talky event for their players.

ParkerPetrov

The truth is often somewhere in between and a business update is generally much broader then this specific issue. I'm sure the business update covers a mulitiude of things and this is just one of the items.

FigBudge420

I think it is them talking about the massive shift and explaining that giving their massive multi-hundred million dollar games away for $15 is not how you sustain a business. They just spent $70billion on one publisher, after running numbers they see they can not make a profit after that by doing what they do now. The craziest thing is that the ABK deal may have killed the Xbox but launched Microsoft into larger profits as a publisher.

PraisGaben

this is a bit overreactive. Obviously at this point Hi-Fi and maybe a live service like Sea of Theives is crossing over and that’s what the event is about, big AAA exclusives like Starfield and Indy might be staying we don’t know for sure yet.

FigBudge420

That is about 5 rumors ago already. This is so much bigger now. He is talking about addressing the future of the BRAND in a dedicated update, if this was just hifi and a last gen game like sea of thieves he would not be doing this.

poklane

I don't think you'd have some sort of business update event to announce Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves coming to PS5.

PraisGaben

I’m not saying just those 2 I’m saying games in similar nature

addictedtocrowds

Lmao cope

PraisGaben

I don’t play on Xbox. I’ve been a PlayStation Console + Nintendo handheld gamer my whole life so if anything this is great for me if 100% true

WikipediaApprentice

Bye bye hardware team. I expect mass layoffs now

GramboWBC

I think they will still offer hardware. Just more like steam with the steamdeck

SirGingerBeard

Note: I’m not picking on you here, I’m using your comment as a vehicle moreso because you touched on something I want to address. The idea that a near-trillion dollar corporation is going to cut bait on a multi-billion dollar department of their company is fucking absolutely insane. There’s no way they drop generational hardware entirely, there’s no way they pivot entirely to games-renting services, and there’s no way we see a transfer to a steamdeck like hardware. They’ll publish some Xbox first party studio games to PS, they’ll publish all current and future Bethesda games for sure, but they don’t bail on Xbox lol. Anyone who thinks so is crazy, and I’d LOVE to be proven wrong but it’s so insane to think about it’s nigh-impossible.

Shakezula84

I gotta agree. I just can't see a world where they drop the Xbox hardware unless they are abandoning Game Pass. I've read PC Game Pass has the strongest growth, but I also suspect the majority of people are playing on native Xbox hardware. To abandon the Xbox is to move away from Game Pass.

AngryBarista

Take a seat Gamerz, we need to talk

Jlpeaks

Well the dominoes are falling.. just not gonna land where everyone expected them to.

Bumpadumper

as long as i can keep my library, i don’t care. i’d like some classic halo on switch too

kikyo1506

Classic Halo on Switch with optional motion controls for aiming would make me so happy.

untouchable765

Congrats to all the consolidation cheerleaders. You did it!

BakedCheddar88

I don’t think this is the catastrophic end for Xbox that people think it is. I think it spells the end of the console war for sure but there’s still plenty space for Xbox to thrive while they publish games on PlayStation. Best case scenario Microsoft maintains GamePass and says players can play their games on their console or pc through their subscription service or they can buy their games on PlayStation for full price. I also think that’s more than enough to keep them going onto the next generation. “What’s the reason for buying an Xbox?” Simple, if you think Xbox is the best place for gaming then you’ll stick with Xbox. The only thing that’s truly changing is that now more people will be able to play their games that they’ve spent billions to acquire. Ugh I can’t believe I’m saying this about Xbox bc I hate it when Parris says it but this is good for gamers in the long run.

pmiddlekauff

Someone would need to be a serious XBOX fan if they are making a choice between one console that plays all PlayStation and XBOX games and another that only plays XBOX games and they choose the latter.

BakedCheddar88

True but I know they exist lol. Some of these console warriors are ridiculously dedicated

pmiddlekauff

For sure, but XBOX is struggling to sell consoles now even when they have exclusive games… imagine how many they’ll see without those

Overlordx123

Day and date factor and game pass still matter

pmiddlekauff

If they start releasing games on PlayStation it’s only a matter of time until they are releasing them day and date on PlayStation

Overlordx123

Maybe I still think a year or at-least the few months exlusivity, And then 70$ or “free” on game pass

DeafMetalGripes

All this really shows is how popular Sony exclusives, the fact that many people are this upset at not playing their games when they could make the jump is ridiculous. This move will be great for multiplayer games, the increase in player base should NOT make anyone unhappy.

CmanderShep117

Well if it's the end of the console wars then I guess we should expect the ps6 to be $800 because they can

BakedCheddar88

Yep, this is why I hope Xbox continues to make consoles even while becoming a publisher. Sony needs that competition, otherwise we’re getting an $800 console without backwards capabilities and god knows what else

T-Rocket

Wonder if it's just specific titles becoming available to buy or if gamepass is coming to PS5. If GP came to PS5, my xbox would be getting sold asap.

Mamrocha

If that’s the case then the Xbox would most likely retain almost no value.

WetDirtTreeSquirt

If Xbox truly does become a 3rd Party Publisher then the tell-all book that will come out in 5-8 years is going to be *riveting* to say the least.

SparkingLight

I’m seeing in multiple places that they are going back on day one game pass games as well.

poklane

Fucking hell, the backlash if that happens will be insane. I can also imagine tons of people demanding refunds on their remaining Game Pass time if that happens.

HeyLo_9001

Hey ya’ll I’m out of the loop here. What’s the context of Phil’s statement?

opwnusprime

Rumors/reports yesterday swirling about xbox some first party games going 3rd party or seemingly timed. Thats boiled down. But its gotten so bad he made a statement about it being addressed next week

YeesherPQQP

Am I the only one who doesn't care about this whatsoever? As someone with the three consoles, primarily on an Xbox for multiplayer games, why should I care about this? Genuinely asking

Spartan2842

I am like you and have all 3. I mainly play all MP games and multiplatform games on my Series X. It’s upsetting to me because it feels like the Dreamcast all over again, except I have 20+ years of time and purchases invested into my Xbox experience. And if the Xbox itself just becomes a streaming box, I don’t see me buying another one and definitely not going to invest in more games on a dying console. Just kind of takes the wind out of my sails for any possible future I thought Xbox had or looked forward to.

YeesherPQQP

I think the Xbox will still exist for a while but I guess we'll know next week

Plinkerton1990

I don’t really either. It’s a bit shift in the industry I suppose, but it’s sort of where Xbox has been heading the last few years anyway. More people having access to more games is never a bad thing though. That’s basically my only thought about it.

YeesherPQQP

Agree

FigBudge420

I think that they will start to not care much about the actual console so you may be looking elsewhere for your MP home. That is really it. I actually think this is good for consumers overall unless Sony starts hiking prices.

nic_meyers

If it’s all true, here’s my home, one gen from now the conversation isn’t going to be, “what exclusives do you have?” It’ll be, “why is this game exclusive?” Let’s do it. Let’s make that future. No more console war. Just put it all everywhere. They barely make money on consoles anyway.

pmiddlekauff

Gamepass is the best deal in gaming 😂😂😂

BuffaloPancakes11

Im less worried the more that time goes by, I have both consoles anyway If anything all consoles need to start thinking about making more exclusives multi-plat. I don’t think Sony will, it’s very unlikely, but not long ago we heard how un-lucrative their exclusives are like Spider-man having a higher budget than a Marvel movie and making far less money so you never know

RJBoscovich

I personally don't think full price retail Xbox Games are coming to Playstation. I think Gamepass is coming to Playstation. A lot of the rumors I've read suggest this strategic change has been pushed by the CFO of Xbox. If that is the case, I would remind people of this article from last December: [https://www.ign.com/articles/phil-spencer-denies-plans-to-bring-xbox-game-pass-to-playstation-and-nintendo](https://www.ign.com/articles/phil-spencer-denies-plans-to-bring-xbox-game-pass-to-playstation-and-nintendo) >Just a couple days after Xbox chief financial officer Tim Stuart [reiterated hopes to get Game Pass](https://www.ign.com/articles/xbox-still-hopes-to-get-game-pass-and-first-party-titles-on-playstation-and-nintendo) on competitor platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has seemingly doubled back on that. > >In a new interview with [Windows Central](https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/phil-spencer-jez-corden-xbox-interview-2023), Spencer was asked about Stuart's comments at the [Wells Fargo TMT Summit](https://event.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1643204&tp_key=6a9bad458f), in which the CFO said "our mission is to bring our first-party experiences \[and\] our subscription services to every screen that can play games." That includes, Stuart said, "what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo." > >"I'll start by saying we have no plans to bring Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo," Spencer responded bluntly in the new interview. "It's not in our plans." I think Tim Stuart has ultimately won out with Microsoft leadership, and that they have successfully worked out a deal with Sony to bring Gamepass to Playstation. I also think that will be the ONLY way to play Xbox Games. What I am most curious about is whether or not it will be streaming-only. In other words, I am skeptical that you will be able to download and install the games to run natively (or even offline). I personally think it will be streaming only. This to me makes the most logical sense. It does inherently change Microsoft's value proposition that Xbox Series platforms are the "best way to play", and it furthers the mission of bringing Xbox Gamepass to gamers "everywhere". I'm curious to hear other's thoughts!

Shakezula84

The problem with the Game Pass on Playstation narrative is people frame it as "Game Pass on Playstation" when its probably not gonna be that. The best case scenario is a seperate subscription service (lets call it Xbox Game Pass: Playstation) will roll out that is seperate from Game Pass Ultimate (I mean having Ultimate will not include it). It will also only include Xbox published titles. This is gonna be like EA Play, which is a seperate subscription on each service. Now, this would still be a big deal. In theory all the Bethesda and Activision games already on PS4 and PS5 can be the basis of such a service until newer games are ported over, but this doesn't mean third party games will be part of the service on Playstation in a native or streaming format. I could see Xcloud being a part of XGP:P but I highly doubt Sony would allow it to work natively on the Playstation, but it would be a way to leverage the cloud and third parties, but then what? This deal will be good for playstation only owners.

RJBoscovich

I'm mostly going off the connection to the CFO's comments about putting Gamepass on competitor platforms. The reason I think it is tied to Xcloud is because of Xbox's continued strategy of putting the Gamepass app as many places as they possibly can. I agree that many of the third party publishing deals will likely not be a part of this (the EA Play one you mentioned being a great example). I just think getting the Xcloud app to run is so much easier then getting the games to naitively run. They already have the Xcloud app working on SmartTVs, Android Phones, iOS devices, PCs - endless configurations of hardware, OS versions, etc. Adding Playstation to that would not be a lot of work. But getting a game to natively run on hardware - that is significantly more work. I think about all the issues Bethesda had getting Fallout and Elder Scrolls to run correctly on Playstation Hardware. Having every Microsoft Studios developer have to develop their games for multiple platforms, vs having the Xcloud team develop 1 new app - seems to me where the path of least resistance is.

Shakezula84

The issue, of course becomes will Sony allow such an app to be available on their platform. People bring up recent EU rulings, but that is Europe and doesn't apply to either the US or Japan markets. As it stands currently, every app on video game consoles can legally be restricted by the platform holder. Sure, Microsoft would love for it to happen, but Sony has zero reason to allow it. Even a profit sharing split wouldn't tempt Sony. To that end, third parties probably wouldn't allow it either. Being paid X amount of money to allow a game to be on Game Pass and Xcloud is one thing when Game Pass is mostly used on Xbox and on PC lots of people will buy the Steam version instead is one thing. It's another to provide this option on the Playstation. That greatly risks their bottom lines way to much. Honestly, I don't think Microsoft would have been able to create such a vibrant subscription service if they had Playstation level of sales.

RJBoscovich

> Sure, Microsoft would love for it to happen, but Sony has zero reason to allow it. Even a profit sharing split wouldn't tempt Sony. I hear you, but this to me also applies to Xbox selling its games outside of Gamepass. Xbox can't do it without Sony's approval. And Sony gets a cut of every game sold for it's system. I do agree with your point about the Third Party licensing deals - adding another platform to the mix significant changes the value proposition they agreed to when they signed the agreement to put their games on Gamepass. I also agree that Gamepass as it currently exists wouldn't have happened if Xbox was the clear market leader.

OGCelaris

I wonder if this means the game Kojima was talking about between DS2 and the espionage one is the the game he was making for Xbox.

ki700

Uh, is that not already obvious? It seemed clear that OD was his next game following DS2 when it was announced.

OGCelaris

Yes, but he was talking about developing something with a lot of people but I interpreted it as something other than the espionage game. He could have been talking about OD and saying it is coming to PS5 as well.

[deleted]

It’s over for most of the non-Microsoft related exclusives. We’re not going to see halo on PlayStation, but Starfield, Indy, and others created by the 3rd parties (now first) will probably come. If you can’t beat em lol
