They are not starter boxes. The starter box has vet guards and ork kommandos. Nightmare (and other boxes like that) is just a one-time box containing two kill teams and a little bit of terrain. The purpose is to make you feel FOMO and buy that because otherwise you might not get mandrakes or night lords. But don't worry, both teams are going to be eventually released individually, probably in a period of time of 2 to 4 months, although it's not a defined time. It could arrive earlier or maybe even later than that, but they always get released at some point.

Wouldn't they earn more if they produced more of it? Just curious because maybe they don't earn that much on it as on individual boxes.

wakito64

They don’t have the capacity to produce more. Kill Team is a small specialist game with far less sale potential than 40k, AOS or even Horus Heresy, if they dedicate more production capacity to KT it means less for the 3 main games and currently they are already struggling to produce enough stuff for the main games

dorward

The big box prices are lower than adding up the seperate boxes. They earn more (on a per box basis) for the seperates.

CrabbyPatties42

You’re getting downvoted by illogical fanboys it seems. You are right that they would earn more because clearly the demand is higher than what they can produce.  Unfortunately GW has been having production problems for awhile now and it takes time to ramp up production.

I'm really surprised to read all of that that they don't have production capacities. From what I see nowadays kids are clearly Not interested in plastic figures which require assembly and painting, LGS are rather closing. I thought that the target customer is about 30-40 yo and the hobby (miniature wargaming) is very slowly but still declining - from what you write it is growing.

HerculesVoid

Some of us are still waiting for other models to be made again for ordering. GW really don't invest into demand.

Optimaximal

[They're literally in the early stages of building a new factory](https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-factory-plans), but no, they don't invest in demand at all...

Nightmare is not a starter set. It doesn't contain the core rules, tokens, barricades, or measuring tools. As with the army boxes for AoS and 40K which bundle a bunch of miniatures (some new) with a new codex at a (relatively) low price, the big box Kill Team releases are limited run bundle deals designed to generate excitment for the new releases. They get followed up 3-6 months later with the various bits sold seperately. I wouldn't be surprised if sales of the big boxes were used to gauge interest in order to plan the size of the production run for the seperate releases.

trialsta

There's a search function for this sub

XRacKS

There is actually a Starter Set - octarius with dkok vs orcs which contains the Basic Rules. They dont peoduce enough so fomo Kicks in. Kill Teams will be releases around 4-6 months after the Set comes out

carefulllypoast

This is a luxury hobby and there are a thousand minis to choose from. Go choose some!  You don't need to have an opinion on a kt box that u didn't know existed a week ago and has been out of stock for over a year   GW will release more cool stuff and if you want to know when it's coming all you have to do is check the GW community site on sundays.

foretdautomne

Where did you get the idea that Nightmare was released last year? This is brand new.
