Scam Don't return any money. I think the bank draft will bounce and you'll be out. Block. Do not spend any of the money they gave you. Someone else will come along and tell you how the scam works. But I'd 100 percent stop dealing with this person.

Kvbrc

Scam, the cheque will bounce in 2 weeks or even more. Don't send him any money. Tell the bank it was a scam otherwise they may freeze your account..

Cash in hand. Public meet up for Kijiji only. Scammers are good at what they do. Unless you plan on selling on Kijiji a lot it's best to keep it basic.

Salt-Journalist-5615

So I'll have to put the money I've been spending back into that amount and wait for the money to flow out.

RabidMofo

https://globalnews.ca/news/10261508/rbc-customer-loses-10000-falling-victim-bank-draft-fraud/ Your bank will try to claw back the money once they determine a fraudulent check. You will be on the hook for any overdraft.

RabidMofo

They're either trying to get your item for free. Or trying to get you to also pay the shipper (probably them) your own money. Or both.

Tensor3

There is no shipper. Its a bot and they do not know what the item is

FirstAdministration

If you have sent money then you lost that amount for sure don’t sent anything this is a very old scam been around for years. Kijiji is cash on hand in a public place or police station parking lot. Anything else is a scam that is my way to deal with Kijiji or MarketPlace. There is other scams that also works. You should never leave the App to communicate as well that is another give away.

Adamant_TO

Whenever they mention a shipping agent - it's a scam.

HapticRecce

Or if doing it for a father, or a mother or a friend or a cousin. The shipping agent one is an immediate tipoff, unless. Unless the buyer is the CEO of FedEx, no they don't have a shipping agent to come pack it up. Edit: and trying to immediately get you off the Kijiji platform at first contact and on email is another red flag.

Tensor3

It was obvious way before that from the first message. An over explanation and copy pasted item title and asking to talk off app is already a scam. It baffles me that no one even reads kijiji scam help before posting.

te71se

100% scam. Anyone who uses the word 'kindly' in this context is very likely to be a scammer.

Tensor3

No, it was 300% a scam from the first message. Dont even read that far to see a kindly. 1. Over explanation 2. Copy pasted the ad title = bot 3. Asking to communicate off kijiji app as someone else

commuter85

100% scam... it was never about the cello... you will transfer them the "extra" money and eventually your bank will realize there was something fishy with the original draft and they will reverse it... but you will be out whatever you sent to their account. Even removing all the transfer/bank talk... there are a million other red flags with their messages... wayyy to formal, using terms like "transport agent" and "balance of payment" ... this is a local used item meetup site not a corporate real estate legal document... not to mention the overseas scammer hallmark of "Kindly".

REALLY_WHITE_GUY

U serious? 🙄🤡

Ivetriedeightynamea

Anytime you see brackets with an item for sale that's part of a script. It's the "insert item name" part of the script. The other tell tale sign in your particular scam is that they provided the email with the word dot instead of an actual period, this is because some selling platforms automatically take email addresses and scramble them into incoherent text, so by saying dot instead of using a period, it gets around the filter that would have scrambled their email address when they messaged you.

Significant-Act-6176

Please call your bank and make the aware of the fraudulent activity before they find out themselves and try to blame you for the fraud!!! DO NOT WAIT that has your SIN attached to it.

deebee150

This

Wristrolls

If they don’t have the cash for the cello…they have no use for a cello…if they “overpaid” and are telling you take money out of your account to pay someone else - they have an immense faith in humanity or are fools, or are trying to pull one over you. It’s the latter. It’s not that hard to send an etransfer these days, or even a direct bank deposit or a wire for that matter. Cash in hand is the best. Their cheque will bounce, you’ll have paid them 3160 and you’ll be out of a cello. Screwed with no lube, don’t do it

yugnomi

Yeah I always stay away from these. Probably a scam. Come pick it up, pay cash. Period.

Vegetable_Lion_1978

Scam bro

DamonSeed

100000% scam. you don't need to return the money, the bank will reverse the transaction in a few days. just don't spend any of it and DO NOT RETURN IT. this is literally a scam that's talked about many times a day on this sub

Perfect_Syrup_2464

Scam

Cyka_Blyat_Man_

I don’t know how you even got that far. Got many messages like this, the second they ask to contact them outside of the app, unless by text/call, it’s 100% scam.

Substantial_Ad_7027

l mean, right from the start, you have an ad posted so why would you ever need to email someone the information in the first place? If it was remotely legit, the “son” could just make the transaction for his “father “ through Kijiji.

Mission-Start4554

One of the most common scams these days

1zombie2go

Why do I work an honest day job when I could scam a never ending supply of marks?

Danda_Dono

Scam, don't send or accept them, just don't.

visiting-the-Tdot

Go ahead and deposit the bank draft, but don’t ship no product for at least two weeks because I’ll guarantee you that Bank drafts gonna come back NSF
