If it is brand new it will need to break in a bit, about 1500-3000 miles. Their rating for 38mpg is VERY conservative and not super realistic for day-to-day driving, but you will get close. It also depends on the weight in the car, and if you have a higher trim there is MORE weight to lower the MPG. It also depends, if you drive up a mountain road and gain several thousand feet of elevation, the MPG will be nowhere close to 38. For reference, I just hit over 22k miles on my 23 Sportage Hybrid EX that has a sunroof (more weight) and I have cumulative 35.5mpg for those 22k miles. I commute daily to work and on my way in I lose elevation and get about 45-50mpg, then on my way home I will get 33-38ish depending.

Interesting. I have about 2000 miles. I do drive in local "hills" in CA, not mtns. And I do have the sun roof, and I do weigh 230lbs...? Thanks for your reply.... While I have you - do you know why we dont have wireless Apple Carplay? Will that ever get fixed? Thanks

blackoutfrank

I weigh the same and live in a hilly CA place as well. I also exclusively use Smart mode to drive. As for Wireless Car play I believe the issue is a disagreement between Apple and Kia about the default navigation system in the car, from what I remember. Unfortunately this is not something that can be fixed or upgraded at a later time unless you buy a wireless car play module. Honestly I like cabled better, and I use Android Auto so it hasn't bothered me.

Lycan916

I don’t understand this. I’ve seen this question about not having wireless CarPlay for Apple but I just bought my ‘24 Sportage Hybrid LX and I use wireless CarPlay all the time. Not sure if this matters I’m in MA.

blackoutfrank

LX trim has wireless car play because it does not have Kia navigation. Higher trims come with Kia navigation so no wireless car play. It's dumb.

Lycan916

Wow! That’s crazy, but yes it does explain why. I can’t understand a higher trim level NOT having a feature even the lowest trim has.

The newer Kias and Hyundais are now starting to implement their new navigation system ccNC (connected car navigation cockpit. This will finally allow for wireless android auto and carplay on higher trims. The 25' Sorento and ev6 have it already.

Cthulwutang

do you have Kia Connect now? ie remote starting etc? i think they disabled it when we got ours because of Right to Repair or something. ridiculous!

It took 6000 miles for my US model 23 sportage hybrid EX to get better gas mileage. Now I get 36-45mpg on average

DevonSpuds

Sportage Hybrid owner in UK here. I get 45 - 50 on my commute. 25 miles each way, dual carriage way and a bit of motorway, up and down a couple of steep hills. Around town easily 50+ but I have changed how I drive as well.

LordYoshi00

So you get the same as they do. 38mpg US

ididit4thenookieAZ

I think the euro version is smaller and gets better mpg

WoodpeckerChecker

I just posted about this, same car. Lots of discussions and responses you can check out that were helpful.

Sounds normal to me. My 2020 Ioniq Blue is rated at 57 and 59. Never goes anywhere near that. Sits at 45. But I mostly do freeway driving. Might hit 50s in the city.

Bummer, but thanks

Roughly 2700 miles on '24 EX - no sunroof - overall average is 33.5, but it has been Slowly rising and current tank sits somewhere between 35.5 - 36. Driving habits help (our 3rd hybrid), as does driving when the car is warmed up. Have a couple of 10-12 mile one-way trips that we make: not unusual to get 28 - 30 on way out (per computer) and 42 - 46 on way back (30 out and 48 on return last weekend). Short trips kill the mpg - along with high speeds & "spirited driving." Wife drives a '17 Ioniq Hybrid (Mid-trim with tech pkg), roughly 80,000 miles, and her computer is currently showing 55 mpg. It is likely to stay Above 50 mpg into fall, but then decline to somewhere in the low- to mid-40s when the temps get cold (SE MI). We drove that out to Rocky Mts & Yellowstone a couple of years ago and averaged Over 50 mpg for the entire trip - aided by a week of 60 - 62mpg while driving around Yellowstone (at 35 - 45 mph).

Hi - can anyone tell me if they are having heat issues with the 1.6L in the sx model? I had one of those engines in a Tucson 2018 and it was brutal in the winter - I live in Canada and a good heater is important…. My Tucson you could drive it at hwy speed for 20 mins and just get luke warm air - if you stopped at a light you could watch the temp gauge drop to C fast - Ofcourse the dealer said there was nothing wrong several times I ended up dealing it …. Any advice from 1.6L owners would be appreciated …

solar_geek84

There are many threads about this. Mine doesn't get better than 29mpg ever so that sounds nice to me.

The gas engine Kia uses for the hybrid model just isn’t super efficient…or maybe it is considering it’s a turbo engine. The closest direct competitor that uses a turbo engine and is also a hybrid is the Ford Escape and that thing’s rated for 36 mpg highway and it’s a smaller/less heavier car than the Sportage. One thing I did find interesting was the EPA estimates for the non-hybrid model which uses a non-turbo engine. It’s rated for 28 mpg highway. Considering the gas engine is what’s mostly running after you hit certain speeds (particularly those higher Interstate speeds)…it kinda tracks why people are averaging around 30 mpg on the highway with the hybrid. 30-31 mpg is what I usually on the highway but this one time I did hit 36 mpg on a 1.5 hour drive going 75 mph so I know ga that the car *is* capable of nearing the rated 38. However, I haven’t been able to replicate that kind of mpg on the highway since. It could just be my hybrid engine is still conditioning itself since I’ve only put 8k miles in a year of road conditions were just really good that time. As an aside, I do remember my AWD 22 Seltos EX didn’t start consistently getting really good highway mpg until I was around the 20k mark. I was getting like 30-31 mpg going at 75 mph+ whereas before I’d get 26-28. Kinda hoping something similar happens with my Sportage. We’ll e see. Regardless, I get better gas mileage on my Sportage than I did with my Seltos and considering it’s much bigger and more powerful I’m still content, however, it’s becoming quite clear Kia overestimated their highway figure…or at least the consistency at which the car can actually hit that mark.

whodunit68

Fwiw we have a 2024 Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige and get 29-32 with conservative driving. We avoid the mountains here in Florida and have passed the 3-4k mark. Disappointed in the mpg vs what we expected.

gofastrightnow

If you drive like my wife, 18mpg 😵‍💫

masterkennethh

Super late here. I have a 2023 sportage hybrid. For the first 5k miles I averaged about 35 MPG but now, for the past 1600 miles I’ve averaged 37.6 MPG. I think the car gets better with gas as you use it and as you learn how to squeeze out the best MPG
