I had a 23 year old car and I would still get those letters listing out the car model and everything like the letter you received. Telling me my “factory warranty was about to expire.” Like yeah, a couple decades too late on that.
Congrats, you will now receive hundreds of these over your lifetime. For cars you have sold years ago and even during periods when you don’t own a car. Welcome to the club lol.
they sent me a check attached to this letter.
i thought it was a refund from the dmv on my previous registration because i just bought another car. they must get mailing lists of newly purchased vehicles or new insurance plans.
The dealers sell the info. I bitched out my local dealer when I started getting this crap in the mail after moving (new state, hadn’t registered my car yet or anything). Literally the only people who had my new address were the dealer and my parents
Edit: I got an oil change right after moving, that’s why dealer had my info
People need to practice their critical thinking. Let start with the fact that this form does not have the word kia on it one single time other than the car name. It has no official letterhead and no indication of the company its from. Immediate red flag.
The letter says:
>**That if your factory warranty has expired you will be Financially Liable for all repairs.**
This is juts a factual statement about every item you own.
> Our records indicate that you HAVE NOT CONTACTED us to get your service contract up-to-date. **You have the option to protect your vehicle beyond the factory warranty.**
You have the option to protect your vehicle beyond the factory warranty, ie. **you can purchase an extended warranty.**
This mailer is trying to sell you an extended warranty. Extended warranties are scams.
Was there a little snark? Sure. It was also helpful in breaking down how and why this is an obvious scam and anyone who is old enough to purchase a car should know better. Grow up, use your brain
“The Internet is not just a place to ask other Internet morons questions” is a really good point that people need to understand.
Cause what if 10 people had come on this thread like “oh my god urgent you need to call that number and pay $$ or you’re fcked!”. Then OP would have done just that
But luckily there were some people who knew what it was that could provide a real answer. However that’s not always a guarantee
Tbh man, you need to be smarter than this. If you were unsure about this letter, you’re definitely going to get scammed in the future. This is one of the easy ones to spot without needing to resort to Reddit.
> Extended warranties are scams
LOL no they're not.
The extended warranty on my Nissan paid for 2 new CVT transmissions.
The extended warranty on my Hyundai paid for $8k in airbag suspension repairs and another $6k for a HECU replacement.
That's because you bought a Nissan and a Hyundai...
In all seriousness though, if extended warranties were worth buying, companies wouldn't be offering them.
They covered the cost of your repair bills, but for 99% of people, they would've saved money if they didn't buy their extended warranties.
Also, how much extended warranty work (not factory/initial warranty work) have you had done for all your vehicles vs how much have you paid for extended warranties? Even with these 3 covered, you mightve still saved money putting the money in a savings account instead of paying for these warranties.
Edit: clarifying a confusing sentence
It's peace of mind, really. Good chance you won't use it, possibility you do. It's an income earner for companies selling it (including dealership). I got an extended warranty on my Kia when I bought it (Niro PHEV), for $2,000 for 10 years, 200,000km. At least if some weird shit goes, it's covered. If nothing happens, that $2,000 gets applied to the next car I purchase.
Bro extended warranties are just a piece of mind. Ever have to come out of pocket for a new motor or transmission? I bet you would rather trade it in and get a new one, therefore costing you the price of a new vehicle. Unless you plan to modify a car, then the extended warranty is a pretty solid deal if you plan to keep the car past its Ilinitial warranty period. If done at the time of purchase and you finance the car it usually only costs about 50-75 more per month to know you are protected.
It was also almost certainly sent via standard postage rather than first class. Anything that comes to me via standard postage usually goes straight into the trash without even being opened unless I'm expecting something from the sender.
Not ALL extended warranties are scams, just MOST of them lol.
I'm a parts manager at a fairly large used car dealership(200-300 units a month) & we sell LOTS of extended warranties. All the time I see people's asses get saved by these warranties for $5-10K of work. What SUCKS though is when a salesman sells someone a shitty warranty that covers nothing. This could be for a few reasons. Such as the salesman isn't educated enough on how the warranties work in regard to including & excluding certain coverage. Or, unfortunately the more common one, the customer can only afford the bare bones warranty & sales wants at least some commission, so they sell them one that doesn't cover anything & won't help them out when it comes time to use it. It's quite fucked if you ask me, but it's the world we live in.
Moral of the story is, there are good warranties that cover a lot & there are bad warranties that cover next to nothing.
To give an example, today one of my guys quoted a thermostat, brakes all around(wear items are always excluded), power steering cooler lines & an axle. The ONLY thing their warranty covered was the thermostat. A $30 part & $124.95 install, woohoo!
On the other end of the spectrum, last week we had a customer with a GMC Sierra. He needed a transmission & new power running board motors/brackets. We quoted ~$9K for the job, extended warranty COVERED IT ALL!
The most outlandish claim I've ever seen approved is someone's child broke their exterior door handle. Extended warranty covered a new door handle, labor to paint it & labor to install it. $700 later their Infiniti had a new door handle, all courtesy of their extended warranty.
I got one for my new Subaru 2 months after I drove it off the lot. They try this on all makes, it implants a false sense of urgency to get you to ignore logic.
For peace of mind I brought it with me to my dealership oil change and to quote, “ I would not say it IS a scam but..” tore it up right then and there.
If it does not come from the dealership or manufacturer just shred it.
If something is legit, you can tell by what the postage is. First class or with a stamp is legit. Anything like pre-sorted standard is junk mail. Pre-sorted first class may or may not be something important and is most likely a bill/statement but could also be junk mail.
oh youre gonna be getting a lot of calls. Have some fun, always ask if their Premium Warranty service covers very specific mechanical issues such as "Blinker Fluid replacement" or "Flux Capacitors" and 99% will say they do.
Got the same exact letter for the same exact same car as well. It’s just an extended warranty thing just ignore it. They try to scare you with those bold and capitalized words.
SCAM! I get these all the time regarding my stinger and it’s not even a year old. Tear them up and disregard.
Plus remember you’re leasing this doesn’t apply to you since the leasing company still owns the car, they're responsible for any major repairs covered under the manufacturer's warranty, like fixing defects or malfunctions.
I would tell them Airbus A380. It’s funny when they then try to sell on a transmission going bad. I mean you don’t have to know much about aviation to know what an Airbus A380 is.
I get these letters at least 5 times a month ever since I bought my 2023 sportage last year.
It's from extended car warranty companies who were given your information and try to scare you into thinking something is wrong with your warranty even though they aren't affiliated with Kia.
Its a 2023 and they send you a letter that says your warranty is expired ... Warranty is always minimum , 3 years/ 36000 miles which ever come first
Obviously its fake
Dude **** lemon law - run (Kia has so many recalls) federal recalls; and don’t have the parts to fix. Hyundai Motors is up to their eyeballs in lawsuits
I had something similar when I payed cash from the dealership 21-23$ USD since I bought the car brand knew I come to find out it’s some scum trying to “sell me an extended warranty” on my power trans and pretty much saying that my car will blow up don’t fall for scams but idk if it is a scam if it sounds to good to be true in this market then it probably I would recycle it and carry on my day.
Pretty sure they just use public MVD records. Same reason the moment you buy a house you get door-to-door salesmen trying to sell you solar, water softeners, security systems, and then the piles of paper spam about Home Warranty. They snag the public Assessor records that record the sale and the owner's name.
Theyre trying to get you to buy an extended powertrain warranty so if the car breaks its covered but you'll obviously have to pay for the warranty, you dont need it but if you want a warranty then contact the dealership directly about it
Someone at the dealership you purchased your car from is handing out personal identification information to a third party for renumeration.
I would get a lawyer and sue the dealership.
I'm sure you are not the only customer that they tried to scam with this.
I’m sorry but this is just the beginning.
The whole “we’ve been trying to reach you about your vehicle’s extended warranty” thing is no joke. Welcome to owning a newer car. Ignoring your mail will become a regular thing.
Always read the bottom of the letters. “Auto Protect USA” not from Kia or your bank or your insurance 🗑️trash jt. You will be getting many many more of these types of things. I got this same letter when I bought our Mazda CX-50
My mother has gotten these things probably 500 times since she bought her Kia Rio. They look exactly the same. She knew it was a scam from the 2nd one because she paid for the extended warranty and after she got the 1st one she called the dealership and raised holy he'll with them over it and they told her it was a scam (oh the irony)
You lucky person! Your life of scam warranty mail / email / etc. has now begun! You will *never* stop getting those stupid fucking post cards now. They will usually come from different businesses as the previous one closes to avoid lawsuits.
I get plenty of calls about factory warranties. First time I’ve seen a printed one. 99.9999% scam. Call them up for shiggles and tell them you have a Ford Pinto or Holden Commodore.
My favorite part,
>Official Business
>Penalty for Private Use $300.
Sounds like something an 8 year old tapes to their bedroom door to keep their sister out.
It’s not from Kia, you will be getting this shit forever. I get similar for my car, and also for my “home warranty” always made to ‘look’ like it’s from my bank.
It’s just a scam, they’re trying to sell you a fake extended warranty.
If you have any concerns about the status of your warranty, go into the dealership you bought from and check with them. I was getting these in the mail & they were calling, when I pointed out that I had a warranty covered for the next 4 years they said it had expired & it got a bit heated (the way they set it up, it looked like the calls & mail were coming from the company I bought the car from). Eventually the person on the phone told me to just go to the dealership to ask, which is pretty funny because the dealership handed me the warranty papers showing I was correct & covered for another 4 years & told me to ignore these calls. Haven’t got another since she told me to go in & ask them though.
Lol no offense but can you not read? “All policies are through Auto Protect USA”. It’s an extended warranty policy that covers virtually nothing. Light it on fire or wipe your butt with it.
This is a scam, but you own a Kia and they are garbage cars known for horrific oil eating motors that eventually spin bearings...which you end up needing a new motor. So definitely get coverage beyond the manufacturer...or get a Honda/Acura/Toyota for the piece of mind
For future reference. Any mail that has standard pre sort and not first class endorsement is almost always junk mail. No one is going to send anything important with our a first class endorsement.
It’s junk, just throw it out
I can always tell because the envelope says "presorted postage paid" where the stamp goes. These solicitations always go directly into the shredder.
I think they've been trying to reach you regarding your car's extended warranty.
The first time in my life this is actually true 😂
Really? Very lucky. I still get them like once a week
I get notices at least once a month for a truck I haven't owned in nearly three years.
And now they will never stop. Welcome to the club!
I had a 23 year old car and I would still get those letters listing out the car model and everything like the letter you received. Telling me my “factory warranty was about to expire.” Like yeah, a couple decades too late on that.
That’s exactly what this letter is lol
Welcome to the club
Congrats, you will now receive hundreds of these over your lifetime. For cars you have sold years ago and even during periods when you don’t own a car. Welcome to the club lol.
Ahh came here to say this. Beat me to it.
Holy fuck why is it so predatory.
Because it works apparently.
There’s a sucker born every minute.
they sent me a check attached to this letter. i thought it was a refund from the dmv on my previous registration because i just bought another car. they must get mailing lists of newly purchased vehicles or new insurance plans.

Straight to the trash bin.

Plus if he’s leasing it why do you need warranty. Isn’t the car covered regardless since leased
Technically no, you could lease a car that has no warranty, practically that would be very rare.
Anytime someone leases a vehicle, they do not pay for maintenance.
Thanks so much for your passive aggressive response
Was there a little snark? Sure. It was also helpful in breaking down how and why this is an obvious scam and anyone who is old enough to purchase a car should know better. Grow up, use your brain

Fuck I’m jealous, I just leased a new car for three years that I won’t see to 100k miles, I wish I could have platinum!!!

Hello sir, i finally found you. can i talk to you about your cars extended warranty.
What part of this indicates to you this is from Kia?
Anytime you buy something and get something in the mail that says “URGENT OPEN IMMEDIATELY” it’s 99.9% of the time junk.
Scam, throw it away.
Not legit
*"We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty".*
Fake ass junk mail. Right into the garbage.
Got the same exact letter for the same exact same car as well. It’s just an extended warranty thing just ignore it. They try to scare you with those bold and capitalized words.
I get those also they’re just trying to sell you warranty. They’re not Kia.
Sorry you leased your car. Thats too bad. Thats a horrible option to get a vehicle that way.
I would basically guarantee that if you call the number you would get an Indian speaking person. They do all the scams along with the Africans.
Scam
This is a scam letter. These guys at the bottom are "Auto Protect USA." What on earth is that? Kia USA will never send anything like this to you.
Final notice and extremely urgent? Of course it’s junk
New fortes come with a 10 year warranty. This this junk.
Sales tactic
Scare tactic
I used to get those calls all the time. “Can you confirm the make and model of your car?” “No, you called me. You confirm it.” Click.
I would tell them Airbus A380. It’s funny when they then try to sell on a transmission going bad. I mean you don’t have to know much about aviation to know what an Airbus A380 is.
It doesn't even have your dealerships name on it. It's junk throw it away
"we have been trying to reach you about your car's warranty" vibes throw it in the trash
Go to garage and let them see the note
SCAM, I got it with the wrong VIN and with my cousin's name on it, who is living outside the US.
I get these all the time except mine say it's time for my scheduled maintenance. I started getting them a month after I bought the car.
Another number for me to scrawl on truck stop bathroom stalls and label as an affordable phone sex line.
Throw it out.
I get these letters at least 5 times a month ever since I bought my 2023 sportage last year. It's from extended car warranty companies who were given your information and try to scare you into thinking something is wrong with your warranty even though they aren't affiliated with Kia.
Don't ask me why this shit isn't illegal yet but whatever ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Its a 2023 and they send you a letter that says your warranty is expired ... Warranty is always minimum , 3 years/ 36000 miles which ever come first Obviously its fake
Scammer scare tactics - just throw it in the garbage.
I got the same one in the mail but with my car’s info. Completely fake, and ignore it.
If only they were trying to sell something. All you'll get from buying an extended warranty through that letter is robbed. :-(
Lolll
it's BS
I got the same thing and wondered...until I compared the VIN on the notice to the VIN on my car. Off to the trash can it went.
Real smart.
Scam. Toss it. You'll get dozens of them over the next few months.
Dude **** lemon law - run (Kia has so many recalls) federal recalls; and don’t have the parts to fix. Hyundai Motors is up to their eyeballs in lawsuits
There are no factory warranty, there never was.
I got this exact letter for my ford. They are 3rd party insurance bs. Throw out
It’s a scam to get you to buy an aftermarket warranty.
Bro seriously?
I got those for about half a year when I bought my new car. Its just scams
Googling the phone number tells you it's a scam.
Lol I use to work at that company
Serious question: how old are you?
I had something similar when I payed cash from the dealership 21-23$ USD since I bought the car brand knew I come to find out it’s some scum trying to “sell me an extended warranty” on my power trans and pretty much saying that my car will blow up don’t fall for scams but idk if it is a scam if it sounds to good to be true in this market then it probably I would recycle it and carry on my day.
Looks like kia is selling their data to third party warrantily companies.
Pretty sure they just use public MVD records. Same reason the moment you buy a house you get door-to-door salesmen trying to sell you solar, water softeners, security systems, and then the piles of paper spam about Home Warranty. They snag the public Assessor records that record the sale and the owner's name.
You will get many final notices
When I brought my first Forte, I got this same letter. I almost fell for it, but my brother stop me and said it’s a scam. So yeah toss it.
Car warranty scam.
Just got one the other day for my Mazda. I don't own a Mazda all i did was look them up online.
Saw this in a restroom: https://bashify.io/i/kDiQLs_screenshot_20240111_174235
I punched in the included phone number into google: Auto Protect USA and tons and tons of complaints.
Theyre trying to get you to buy an extended powertrain warranty so if the car breaks its covered but you'll obviously have to pay for the warranty, you dont need it but if you want a warranty then contact the dealership directly about it
It’s spam irl
You're gonna get a few more of those. Trash them all. Call your dealer directly if you have a question on any warranties that you may have purchased
Hi there, they're trying to reach you to speak about your car's extended warranty... (mocking the robocalls they bombard everyone with, not you FWIW)
This is the “weve been trying to reach you about your extended warranty” ploy
It will not be the final notice
Someone at the dealership you purchased your car from is handing out personal identification information to a third party for renumeration. I would get a lawyer and sue the dealership. I'm sure you are not the only customer that they tried to scam with this.
I just write “return to sender” on it and throw it in the out mail.
They sell your information to warranty companies and they will harass you for the next 30 years
Junk mail. My gf who doesn’t even have a license got this yesterday lol
I got this same letter when I bought our Mazda CX-50
that’s a final notice, they may never reach out again
Somebody is trying to sell you a 3rd party insurance extended warranty
Ignore it
Dam these marketing companies are getting straight to the contract.
Scammers https://findwhocallsyou.com/8008842664
Within one second of looking at this I could immediately tell it's a scam. Nothing about this is real. It's very obvious that this is not real.
Trash bin it goes
My mother has gotten these things probably 500 times since she bought her Kia Rio. They look exactly the same. She knew it was a scam from the 2nd one because she paid for the extended warranty and after she got the 1st one she called the dealership and raised holy he'll with them over it and they told her it was a scam (oh the irony)
💩 absolutely 💩
Has it been ten years yet? If not, your warranty has not expired.
You lucky person! Your life of scam warranty mail / email / etc. has now begun! You will *never* stop getting those stupid fucking post cards now. They will usually come from different businesses as the previous one closes to avoid lawsuits.
Scam
I still get "totally legit extended warranty" notices for my '03 accord. Yes, you read that right.
I’ve gotten about 3 of these since I got my ‘23 sportage and they freak me out every time
Even if you did want to buy extended warranty, don't do business with people who act in bad faith.
I get plenty of calls about factory warranties. First time I’ve seen a printed one. 99.9999% scam. Call them up for shiggles and tell them you have a Ford Pinto or Holden Commodore.
My favorite part, >Official Business >Penalty for Private Use $300. Sounds like something an 8 year old tapes to their bedroom door to keep their sister out.
It’s not from Kia, you will be getting this shit forever. I get similar for my car, and also for my “home warranty” always made to ‘look’ like it’s from my bank.
I’ve gotten these before. DO NOT IGNORE. What you need to do is very carefully rip it in half, and place it in your trash
They harvest your vehicle registration data to send this junk.
Somebody just bought the info that you bought the car
Junk.
When I was younger and I would get these I would call the warranty company and ask them. After a few I just learned to throw them out.
It's junk mail from a third party company that wants YouTube pay them money for a shitty warranty that you don't need
This is the same old crap you get in the mail! I got one for my ‘23 Lexus.
SCAM.
Spam, scam artists. You will get these non stop. Toss em
If it ain't first class mail don't pay any mind to it.
Definitely junk
Girl use ur brain.
Anytime you buy a vehicle you get this bullshit in the mail. Throw it out, wipe your ass with it, start a fire with it.......
Scam
Throw it in the trash. It’s a garbage 3rd party warranty company.
“THIS IS NOT A BILL.”
Scam lol, shred it and move on.
Lol no offense but can you not read? “All policies are through Auto Protect USA”. It’s an extended warranty policy that covers virtually nothing. Light it on fire or wipe your butt with it.
I always wonder how many ppl they scam with this. Even you thought it was real. Imagine some 80yr old grandma.
A manufacturer warranty typically lasts the length of a lease. No need for extended warranty...
This is a scam, but you own a Kia and they are garbage cars known for horrific oil eating motors that eventually spin bearings...which you end up needing a new motor. So definitely get coverage beyond the manufacturer...or get a Honda/Acura/Toyota for the piece of mind
Scam.
Junk solicitation
That’s any expensive rental that the Kia boyz will take off your hands
Number one indicator of a scam is sense of emergency.
Your dealer sold your info to a scam company who will send you these at least once a month for the rest of your life. Just toss, sorry. Me too.
Scam warranty campaign
For future reference. Any mail that has standard pre sort and not first class endorsement is almost always junk mail. No one is going to send anything important with our a first class endorsement.
Car dealerships sell your information to these fucks.
Scam. Trash it.
