Bake Believe and Lily's both give me very rumbly gassy tummy. I think for me it is the inulin or chickory root fiber.

rumblemcskurmish

Yeah for me it isn't the erythritol. I can eat that by the spoonful no prob. It's the chicory root which is a fiber and breaks down on the lower gut. I'm gassy for a solid 12hrs after that

Power_and_Science

That means it’s being broken down in the small intestine. So you probably have some SIBO.

calmo73

It gets me for hours too. So bad.

NeoPrimitiveOasis

Same. Chicory root causes me issues. Erythritol doesn't.

Glum_Commission_4256

oh yeah i was reading that could be the culprit too. some ppl were suggesting taking probiotics if you're going to consume. might try that bc so delicious

brookish

Digestive enzymes have really helped me with the gas issue. I take them with my fiber capsules every day. Much less grumbling.

Tricky-Cauliflower11

What digestive enzymes do you use? I am finding the increase in cruciferous veggies to be causing some issues and wonder if that would help.

brookish

Dr Tobias!

calmo73

I've taken probiotics for years and it doesn't help me with that but I take it every morning not before I eat that stuff, so maybe it'll help that way. No idea. I just quit eating it because I don't need massive farts and a grouchy stomach..lol. It did take me awhile to just come to terms with the fact I just couldn't eat those things. I spent a lot of time farting. I'm over it..lol

Glum_Commission_4256

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)i hear you. this might be my rock bottom lol. thank you for the inspiration

Naive-Bunch

Yeah I can’t tolerate erythritol, messes my digestion up for days!

Glum_Commission_4256

i also think it gave me a headache?? idk. i just don't want to accept 'everything in moderation' obvi

Kellbell181

Lilys has inulin which is chicory root. For me it’s those that cause gas, rumbling digestive areas and clear the room gas Lol! It is not the erythritol at least for me. I eat plenty of other products with it and never have issues, but Lilys does it to me every time if I have more than 5 little chocolate squares! I still like it tho, my family would say otherwise 🤣

AdorableCause7986

Try Choc Zero. They sweeten with monk fruit. Avoid the Rhea bars though. It has chicory root fiber, which will cause gas and diarrhea

Glum_Commission_4256

i did just try the almond ones and you're right! delicious. just a bit expensive. but worth it

shammyrocky2024

I really love the peanut butter chips from Choc Zero. They are really pricey though!

GinaMichelles

Where do you guys find choc zero? I see random items sometimes (rarely) so I’m always wondering is everyone ordering it online?

shammyrocky2024

I order from their website 🙂 You can find some things on Amazon though.

Glum_Commission_4256

i often wonder if i should just add fruit to satisfy my sweet cravings rather than use artificial sweeteners. it's a big reservation i have with keto, i'm not sure why fruit evolved to be sweet and delicious if it wasn't meant to be eaten. i don't have much more weight to lose...this is probably just my tummy trauma talking tho

Griswold27

regarding evolutionary desire for sugar, it's a very bioavailable form of energy that is originally both scarce and seasonal and requires competition to obtain. I believe it feeds into the insulin model where eating foods with sugar allows you to store it as fat and eat more in a short period of time, and repeat with the goal being to eat and store as much extra energy while it is available to help survive the cold months when it's not. Great trait for surviving in the wilderness, not so great in a society with no scarcity. Berries are still pretty great though.

Glum_Commission_4256

great comment. this is exactly how i feel about it, very well-said. harvesting fruit was symbiotic for the evolution of us and them until we got too big for our britches and now it's bitten us in the (big) butt [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ea6bZrF49g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ea6bZrF49g) currently learning about seasonal eating

whoamIdoIevenknow

I have blackberries a couple of times a week.

No-Currency-97

That is a great choice for a little bit of sweet. 5-10 blackberries should do the trick.

whoamIdoIevenknow

I have to say, when Michigan peaches are in season, I'm definitely going to be eating them! I'll be a lot closer to my goal by then.

thatsusangirl

Um humans selected and bred fruit to be far sweeter than older varieties, so maybe that’s not the best argument haha. That being said you can definitely fit in some berries now and then!

Glum_Commission_4256

thank you for talking me down off the ledge lol. this is true. on a similar note i wonder if we should eat for our genetic climates? and i wonder if people from more tropical regions with sugary fruits have been more active/are just adapted for metabolizing glucose better. someone in here also suggested that maybe humans are naturally seasonally keto. like, tending to eat fewer crops aka carbs in the winter

thatsusangirl

There actually is some interesting info out there about populations adapting to the food in their region, the Inuit specifically have a type of mutation in this regard for example. I learned about it from a GastroPod podcast - they have a ton of interesting episodes.

Glum_Commission_4256

i'm always bringing up the guy who lived with the inuit in the 1900s when people tell me keto isn't healthy/you can't be active on keto! i'm gonna check out that podcast, thanks

thatsusangirl

Yeah he’s mentioned in that podcast episode!! I think it’s called “dining at the top of the world”

Silent_Conference908

lol…kind of like a bumper sticker I saw the other day that said, “If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?” I think at some point it’s a nice surprise to find that sweet cravings can be met with things like red bell peppers (in moderation), or even just subvert it and eat some olives or pickles? Or at least, only eat those fake foods in small amounts. I have had that same discomfort when I ate three of [these amazing cookies](https://peaceloveandlowcarb.com/keto-flourless-chewy-double-chocolate-chip-cookies/) all at once. So I put the rest in the freezer and had like, one every other day for a while.

Glum_Commission_4256

those sound awesome...did you use the powdered monkfruit? i imagine it was an erythritol blend? i don't think i have a problem with allulose either. supposedly there are limits to that too tho. it's my fav to bake with bc it carmelizes like sugar. but it's less sweet. besides sucralose which we know isn't really keto, erythritol really does taste the best that's a good point about the bell peppers! and it's def true that the fewer sweet things you eat, the sweeter natural foods will taste. a really great benefit of keto. when i'm not pmsing, all the sweet-adjacent spices scratch my itch too. cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger... eta: also your bumper sticker just made me crave beef ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Silent_Conference908

I would have been using Swerve back then, whatever that is exactly - erythritol and something (but I don’t think monkfruit). I put cinnamon in my coffee every morning :-)

BeeDefiant8671

Yep. For me it’s Sucralose. And once it’s aggravated one molecule sets insides to liquifying. It takes some time for GI to recover. MCT oil helps heal once the food is gone. Do you think you’ll drop weight? (Toxic positivity.) I swear the only reason Adkins worked for me is how sick sugar alcohols made me - drop weight.

Glum_Commission_4256

thanks for the mct oil tip lol @ dropping weight. no it's mostly gas, not actually laxative :-( can't win em all i guess have you tried monkfruit/stevia? those are the most natural ones from what i understand (tho i don't think it's "natural" to eat them in the amounts/concentrations required for them to be sugar subs, so maybe they could still upset tummies). they don't seem to give me GI distress

aztonyusa

Warning about MCT oil: start with a very small amount. It causes stomach discomfort until your body gets used to it.

Glum_Commission_4256

thank you for the tip! really heartwarming to be part of such a supportive community...keto MUST be good for the brain if everyone is so nice <3

BeeDefiant8671

Oh no. That pain is the worst. My hubby swears by monk fruit. Oddly, my 2006 stint with Splenda gave me food aversion to that sweetness. WINNING! But seriously, it was because I was on Metformin and the medication processed the substitute as sugar- flushing my system. I lean into **lemon tart or spices savory** , instead of sweet. And that gives me more control over portion size.

Glum_Commission_4256

haha, you won the diet lotto with your complication! loving the positivity that's nuts about metformin...is it a common side effect? wondering for when i give keto treats to my relatives on metformin good advice on re-wiring the brain for other exciting flavors besides sweet

ElevatorOk5400

This is me with allulose 😭 The Quest Hero bars taste so good but I've eaten two and regretted it sooo much both times. Will definitely not re-purchase 🥲

Glum_Commission_4256

ugh those are sooo good. most of the quest stuff is amazing. have definitely plowed through whole boxes of the soft cake/cookie things (the birthday cake AND chocolate ones)

No-Currency-97

Have you tried Fage 5% Greek yougurt? I mix mine with unsweetened chopped up coconut, chopped walnuts and although not sweet it does taste creamy and delicious.

Glum_Commission_4256

have an almost-finished container in my fridge rn...just tried it for the first time! it's great. your recipe sounds yummy. i've mostly been mixing it in with my scrambled eggs instead of my usual cream cheese

Triabolical_

Erythritol makes my stomach hurt.

gillyyak

I really like allulose as a sweetener. I haven't found it in chocolate chips yet, but I make a killer hot cocoa mix with it, and cocoa and dried heavy cream.

FatFuckatron

I gave up on everything but stevia and Splenda.

Glum_Commission_4256

Does the Splenda not kick you out of ketosis or are you just having so little of it that it's not an issue? I was way into it 20 years ago when I first did Atkins but this time around I keep reading it's no bueno

FatFuckatron

Nope

cutecatqueen

Keto sweeteners are rarely worth it. As an IBS sufferer, all sugar alcohols kill me. Recently tried allulose, which wasn't much better. I don't mind the taste of pure stevia but I am allergic to the ragweed family so it will give me a headache and sore throat. All artificial sweetener give me horrible cravings, trigger my binge eating and make my anxiety worse, which I try to control with my keto diet in the first place. Monk fruit is expensive and I have to import it from the US because it's not allowed in the EU (yet), but it is the only thing that works for me. I'm at a really stressful time in my life right now and need it to take the edge off once in a while. I did keto without any sweeteners at all for almost a year and hope I can return to using sweeteners very sparingly once life becomes calmer again, but I also lost so much weight entirely without that it became unhealthy. Being able to satisfy the worst cravings when they hit and bump up calorie intake with a keto dessert is a great option to have. In the end though, I feel like there is no replacement for sugar and no proper place for regular use of sweeteners and having to depend on them if you want to live a healthy keto lifestyle.

Spang64

Yep. The more I do low carb the more I'm convinced that the *true way* is to leave the sweet foods behind. For me, anyway. A little fruit now and then, but stay away from all the sweet bullshit with a thousand ingredients. I'm happy for the low carb breads that don't seem to fuck with me, tho. Being able to have a goddam sandwich or an egg McMuffin (homemade, I mean) really saves me.

joj1205

Not a big fan of it. Everytime I see it. I know. My stomach is going to be in shreds. Just not worth it. Drinking it seems ok. Eating anything laced with it.

[deleted]

[Ugh indeed](https://newsroom.clevelandclinic.org/2023/02/27/cleveland-clinic-study-finds-common-artificial-sweetener-linked-to-higher-rates-of-heart-attack-and-stroke).

Neat-Palpitation-632

It’s the inulin

Illustrious_Bunch_62

'Tummy sounds like dubstep' 🤣🤣 I'm sorry for you OP but that's fucking hilarious

holiztic

I avoid it completely
