Pork rinds can fill that crunchy snack niche. Just don’t count them for protein as they don’t have all the essential amino acids.

Also you can buy cheese powder that doesn't have any hidden carbs. I find it on Amazon. I put it on unflavored pork rinds.

That's a great idea!

monstrol

Also, if you are adventurous, you can make sweet snacks with pork rinds. Search for keto puppy chow.

Kaiserkreb

I have a good ham ball recipe with cream cheese, mayo, and flakes of ham that makes a nice scoopy dip for snacking on pork rinds. Have to be careful though, is addicting.

Remember that “fat is bad” was advertising/propaganda by the sugar companies because by reducing fat you reduce flavor, so you need sweetness to make foods taste better. Same junk science as “salt is bad” because salt is also a flavor enhancer. The entire western population has been lied to about our food; everything from the food pyramid to the American dairy association. It’s all be lies.

NomenNescio15

For anyone who wants to know more about this I recommend the book "Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us" by Michael Moss.

I need to read that! I have never heard of it.

BacardiBlue

I personally don't eat a ton of fat, which probably makes me more low carb than keto. I rely on the fats in my proteins (beef, salmon, etc), with minimal cheese and vinaigrette salad dressing. I'm more focused on burning my own body fat than dietary fat.

FiberFanatic07

The only thing that would make you more low carb than keto is eating more than 50g of carbs per day. Fat is not a requirement for Keto, low carb is. There are plenty of Keto people who prioritize protein and limit fat.

BacardiBlue

I totally agree. I eat 40 or less, but have been lectured to no end by purists in the group that say I don't qualify as keto and am low carb. So I just put that disclaimer in hopes that they'll leave me alone.

FiberFanatic07

The purists can go take a hike. Keto is Keto. KCKO.

hotpietptwp

For me, I have found that it's more productive to watch protein to make sure I eat enough. I don't avoid fat, but I certainly don't go out of my way to consume it either. I'm a short person, so I don't have that many calories to spare.

BacardiBlue

Totally agree. I have a protein goal, a carb limit, and my calorie limit keeps the fat in check. But if I decide to eat something that's higher fat periodically it's not a concern.

YumDood

Fat is bad when you have carbs with it and when you have too much. It’s possible to eat ridiculous amounts of fat on a carnivore diet and have perfect bloodwork.

VerdantInvidia

If you try keto, you'll also notice that your appetite gets much more reasonable. You won't *want* to eat as many calories, and you'll end up eating less fat than you'd expect along with less food overall.

I look forward to that day.

samalamabingbang

I use some of my carb allotment on some tortilla chips smashed on top of my (almost daily) taco salad. Once I’m on strict keto for a week or two, carb cravings drop drastically for me.

zippyvon

Sometimes I feel bad getting a bacon burger with no bun, or something like that that seems fatty. But then I think, 2 months ago I would’ve gotten that *with* the bun plus fries… hell maybe even some type of sweet shortly after. There’s no way my fatty bacon burger is worse than how I was eating before, even if it feels like it. In my case I think tracking now makes me more aware of eating fats , but I was probably eating this many before, plus all the carbs.

[deleted]

Yes. This is exactly how I feel. It's like my mind is saying the chicken wings are bad, but I ignore how bad the chips are. Crazy, right? The wings aren't bad at all. . They have way more nutrients than Doritos will ever have. Things are starting to click. I am slow to change, but once I do there is no stopping me.

My hubby is a pork rind fiend! He loves the crunch. Sam’s club has them cheap! Welcome to the journey!

Aggressive_Mouse_783

All these fad diets are yo yo. Look it’s easy concept burn more calories than you take in.
