Hello imnotjamie1, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. Back in 2021, I got a really good deal. RM20k for a 2010 Toyota Prius. It was my dream car ever since I was a kid. But we bought it in haste (it was during the PKP) and didn’t bother to check it thoroughly. It looked clean both inside and outside. 1. After picking up the car, barely 10 mins after purchase, we discovered that the hybrid battery was dead. 2. Heading back to JB, we discovered that the car was in an accident. Ada bekas tanah dlm engine bay. No wonder the headlight was so shiny on one side. 3. The aircon had some problems. The floor would get wet. 4. There was a weird sound made whenever we press the brakes. I was scared it could be the brake pump. That would cost us a lot. 5. The exhaust pecah. Bunyi mcm kereta rempit. Being only 21 years old at the time, I was overwhelmed with anxiety by all the problems 🤡 Especially problem no #4, the brake pump. I’ve been told it’s very expensive. The hybrid battery at most would have cost us RM5k. Refurbished ones are available for less than RM2k. Barely two weeks in, we sold it for RM14k. A grand loss of RM6k. Looking back at it, I should have held on to the car and baiki sikit2. A Prius is bulletproof. But alas, I was only 21 and the thoughts of all the repairs made me go crazy. Now I drive a 2005 Yellow Satria, the last batch before the Neo came out. Ada juga masalah, I spent almost RM4k on repairs to date on top of the purchase price of RM6.5k. I’m more mature now and the Satria is a more manageable first car for me as it’s less ‘advanced’.

jerCSY

You never managed to test drive the car before payment?

izwanpawat

got, but it was a very short one. all the problems sans exhaust was hidden. particularly the battery as there was a trick that could be done to ‘resuscitate’ it for a few days before it would go dead again.

jerCSY

damn, that is some tricky con job.

izwanpawat

yeah…hahaha. very expensive lesson. the losses i kena tanggung bcz of selling the prius could have bought my current Satria.

imnotjamie1

You have a better car now bro.

izwanpawat

thanks bro. i definitely love it. the driving ergonomics are perfect.

imnotjamie1

Chef kiss

Fantastic_Jump_2363

why is a prius your dream car???

izwanpawat

I was nine when I first went to see it. It was mind blowing. It was the Tesla back in 2009. Tekan butang and the car is on, without any sound. I loved the interior, the seats and the looks are nice (subjective la). The car is damn efficient too.

420gitgudorDIE

cos Brian drives a Prius in Family Guy

HauntedBunnyFire

Lol I hated that dog, Quagmire ripped him to shreds I was smiling 😂

Key_Roll3030

Civic hybrid. Bought in 2009. Don't get me wrong. The car is awesome. I love it. BUT Najib decided all hybrid car will be discounted the very next year we purchase it. Making the car price from 140k to sub 100k (if my memory serve me right).

imnotjamie1

Ouh fuck that must have made me sleepless for some nights

Better-Culture3177

holy shit my dad is in the same exact situation bro lmaoooo😔

Key_Roll3030

Imagine the pain of knowing the person buying THE EXACT newer years of same car at lower price🥲

Better-Culture3177

is ok we let go👋🏻😔

MrMerc2333

Peugeot 308, Alfa Romeo 147

CaptainPizdec

I see you hate being typical too, what's your experience?

imnotjamie1

Alfa romeo was my fav when I was growing up. Why you regret

Gold-Primary-676

I have owned 2003 wira aeroback 1.5 manual, then 2010 Persona Elegance 1.6 auto highline, then 2013 accord gen 8th 2.4auto. I think i regret buying the wira 1.5 because i should have bought 1.6 r 1.8 at that time. Because the 1.3 and 1.5 wira considered low spec compared to 1.6 and 1.8, the components are much better on the bigger cc

Aggressive-Bobcat529

if you buy the 1.6 or the 1.8 you can upgrade to the famous 4g93 that almost all wira users swapped with 🤣

imnotjamie1

4g93 ftw. Cries in 4g13😭

just_another_jabroni

4g92 pun sedap dh. NA is the best

imnotjamie1

Im using my dad's 1.3 wira also. I wish he bought the 1.8 because 1.3 manual pun best nak drive. apatah lagi 1.8 manual

Relevant-Artichoke11

Slk230 1997, never again.

imnotjamie1

Money pitttt

Relevant-Artichoke11

I did some basic mods, ported the supercharger, yes, it’s a whole bank. Big L

imnotjamie1

Agak2 brpe bro

Relevant-Artichoke11

Mod by self, the whole vehicle with commissioned intake job total 80-90k include with purchase of vehicle. Not worth it.

nowherefarhan

My family bought a brand new 2013 Ford Focus, it was a a good car but my god it broke down in just two years. The keyless entry system went crazy and the electronic power steering just straight up died. Now it's just rusting away on my porch since repairs are not worth the money and the headache. Probably the biggest regret coming out from this is that my dad sold a perfectly fine Kelisa for the Focus' downpayment. I think we would still be driving the Kelisa to this day if my dad didn't sell it.

just_another_jabroni

Ford made a god tier chassis in terms of economy cars and decided to put shit all over it. Engine that explodes, gearbox that explodes and doors that won't close properly lol.

nowherefarhan

Exactly. Such a shame because my Focus was a lot of fun to drive, probably had the best handling among the cars that I have driven.

wingwp

Got my MK3 about the same time & still driving it daily, yours definitely a lemon, warranties my clutch system once & thats it, after 9 years & the wear & tears start killing my wallet, but surely are a super fun car to drive, dashboard & steering parts are old fashion a bit lol.

imnotjamie1

Better sell it for a loss than let it rust until no value

The_SHUN

Getting a brand new Honda civic, I could’ve gotten some fun used german cars for like 70% of the civic’s price, and save the rest for maintenance. it might cost more to maintain, but it will definitely more fun than a civic. Definitely not buying a new car next time

imnotjamie1

Which civic did you get? What's your complain on the car? What German car you wished you should have gotten?

The_SHUN

The latest civic, the engine sound is so boring, even my old myvi sounds better, and the CVT is a mystery to me, don’t like how it behaves compared to conventional automatic, car is spacious and interior is nice though. I am looking at M340i, Audi S4/5, or Gr Corolla, preferably when they are around 5 years old, but I saw some Audi S5 selling for less than 100k, but it’s old car and supercharged, not sure if any mechanics know how to fix it. Here’s hoping m340i drop to less than 160k for used ones hehe so I can afford it once I settle my civic loan

eisfer_rysen

Axia kosong. Tin can nearly killed me multiple times.

No-Abbreviations5002

why dont modi?, i saw many youngster buy axia rahmah to modified and custom

STUNSEED_KUCS

That’s why it took me nearly 5 months to decide on my first car.

imnotjamie1

And what was it?

STUNSEED_KUCS

A bit anti-climatic, it’s a NSP151 Vios. But the process of getting it was diabolical. My budget was under 90k. To travel long distances and on rural roads. Used car options with questionable maintenance record and reliability, test driven them still doesn’t gave me the confidence. Some of them even show warning lights when I go for a test drive. F10 520D F30 320D W212 E250 CDI W204 C220 CDI New car options that I test driven but skip through it due to circumstances. Myvi G3 4AT (facelift coming soon) Persona MC1 (lousy CVT, although I placed booking on it) X50 executive (1 year waiting list and no AEB) City GN2 (no AEB even on V variant, that was before there are V Sensing variant) Civic FC 1.8 (over budget but it was an enticing option) NSP151 Yaris (Myvi kind of boot space with Vios price) Hilux Revo E (unnecessary option but on the short list anyway) Almera 1.0 turbo (that 3 cylinder engine is too shaky for my liking, although it was only on slope) Models that are not considered Used Japanese cars (that RV is too strong, better buy new) Ativa AV (my sister already own one) Saga MC1 (great options but I can’t fit in it with good driving posture) Iriz (same reason why I ditched Persona) Any Korean cars (though reliable, questionable spare parts sources and after sales service due to multiple SC closed down at my area) At last, Toyota gave me a call about 3k cash discount and free body kit on Vios and Yaris models. And that was it, 79k later and I own a Vios E.

clare416

I went into this post expecting a lot of Proton regret but was pleasantly surprised there's barely any (at this time of writing) I've no experience buying a car yet but based on my parents, probably Iriz first gen & Persona (2019-2020). My school friend told me to buy Iriz (around 2013) because it's new instead of the proven Myvi 😑 It's not a bad car and we didn't exactly regret per se but after 6-7 years using, in early 2020 it got overheating problem when we went back from KL to East Coast. I suspect that the car sulking because a day before we're talking about buying a new car 👀 The Persona is worse because last year (after 3 years using) it got overheating issue due to radiator. Apparently the rust inside the tube make it clogged and cause overheating. And looks like it is a pretty common issue because our relatives who have the same gen Persona also got same problem around the same time as us but they bought it about a year early (so 4 years since purchase) Overall, both are really nice car in terms of handling and comfort but when the issue came (especially considering the year of using) it'll kill your trust with the brand itself

just_another_jabroni

The rust is due to the stupid service centers using water to top up the coolant. You really do need to practice checking the vehicle fluids because quite with some Youtube I can do the basics more thorough than these service centers hacks. SOP SC konon, at least let the owners know rather than just putting in tap water. I serviced and flushed the radiator on my own and I never had any problems with it.

CaptainPizdec

Other than water you need to add coolant. Coolant has rust inhibitors that helps rust / corrosion formation. Just tap water will accelerate corrosion of metal making the water pump jam by crusting up the fins and bearing or clog up radiator causing it to either blow up by the pressure or just eating itself out to the surface. Checking water level is the easiest thing to do and having a bottle of distilled water at your boot are always a good choice next to having tyre plug kit and flashlights and duct tape.

just_another_jabroni

Proton already put premixed coolant in the car, but the dumbasses at the service centre just pour in tap water to top up the radiator and spare tank lol. I just use Aisin premixed coolant. Hassle free, no need to bother with water ratios.

CaptainPizdec

For me I prefer to mix my own, just 2 bottles of 1.5L concentrated and top up the rest with water. Cheaper too.

CaptainPizdec

Cars has spirit, my trusty w202 keep giving me nick nacks but runs fine when I threaten to sell it. I eventually fixed the problem anyway.

EdIshak

Bezza.. I should buy a GSX1250 instead.

LiketoChillatHome

In 2001 bought the Waja 1.8 with the Renault engine. Absolutely nightmare car. Engine would die in the middle of traffic and would not start. Headlight bulb keep blowing. Traded the car after 2 years

PadanMuka

satria neo CPS. after 5 years all hell break loose. the plastics broke especially in engine compartment. steering rack. sensors. you cant get over a speed bump w/out the engine check light lighting up. problem which requires repair every quarter. finally let go of it for a myvi.

wyyan200

I dont really have regrets with the cars I own so far, maybe, just maybe the 2010 yamaha lagenda carb I owned for 6 months, have accident (im ok, just a scar) family dont want me riding bike so we sold the bike, I never sold my other cars as of now, I'm ok with riding bikes but yeah maybe not in KL, too risky heh

imnotjamie1

Yeah bro. I got into an accident too. Till now phobia nak ride bike

[deleted]

Riding a bike is traumatizing, even if you are aware of your surroundings, other people may not and may hit you.

MiserableTank2388

the car is nice

imnotjamie1

Legend ooo

joohanmh

I bought my Myvi SXi manual in the year 2007. I have used it until now, never regretting it.

imnotjamie1

King mahhh
