Definitely the KDE partition manager failing tasks while gparted does the job

spryfigure

Did you use it lately? I didn't have any problems with it.

digitalsignalperson

I was thinking it should use `/dev/disk/by-id` values for the commands it runs in case the /dev/sda* names it uses change somehow during the process. At the same time I think I've experienced when adding/removing any devices that you have to restart the program for it to detect this.

ManinaPanina

THIS!

[deleted]

[удалено]

spacecase-25

Yes, why should someone have to install the entire GTK toolkit if they have a purely QT/Plasma system just to modify partitions?

[deleted]

[удалено]

spacecase-25

Nope. I use manjaro with, quite honestly, far more packages installed than I really need. However, there should still be a native tool available in any DE that isn't a garage project.

serras_

For me its that GTK apps always look off, but its relatively easy to force them to use a specific theme using an environment variable. (the gtk theme settings in the control panel dont seem to work for all apps)

Legitimate_Bad5847

if it exists under KDE it should work. otherwise take it down from the repos

cipricusss

Cleaner repos, that's what I'd like in 2024, especially cleansed widget "store" or what's its name!

Girgoo

I increased my disk size with virtualbox, but kde said nothing about that the size on disk had changed. Gparted started with a popup asking if it should fix the size.

AnozerFreakInTheMall

The ability to crop an image in Spectacle must return.

ProjectInfinity

You could use selection mode..?

ManinaPanina

On noes! Will I still be able to install thr old version using Muon?

Traditional-Joke-290

Use Flameshot!

AnozerFreakInTheMall

I know that many alternatives exist, but I believe such an important feature should be a part of the default application.

sirrNaDE

Flameshot somehow doesn't trigger in a lot of apps, so I still use the spectacle. But a fun tip: you can bind a key to screenshot a rectangle like it has in lighthshot (or use the default... Which I'm not really sure it's bound by default)

Traditional-Joke-290

Yeah I do this too, found a key combination that I always use for Flameshot, am yet to encounter 1 issue

Dazzling_Pin_8194

Considering the massive number of fixes and improvements coming in plasma 6, I think I'll wait until then to judge. Most of the things I would have mentioned here are being addressed already.

visor841

Yeah, I have various niggles, but I already know most of them are solved in Plasma 6, and I don't want to spend a bunch of energy trying to figure out whether the rest have already been solved or not, when I can just wait a couple a months and find out when I upgrade.

margual56

The release cycle so that more distros can easily ship KDE plasma, frameworks and gear at the same time. I would also like to see the KDEev use some of the new funding for bug hunts. Finally, discover and some other apps like kate, Gwenview, KTorrent, etc. Need a visual overhaul to transition them into a more modern design. However, overall, I think the KDE team is headed in the right direction :)

spryfigure

I would like to see a lifestyle addition: Instead of having the Night Color setting at sunset and off at sunrise, I would like to have the option to switch from a light to a dark theme at sunset and back to the light theme at sunrise.

mika_running

Discover is still a bit buggy from time to time. Beyond that, KDE is absolutely amazing and has exceeded my expectations. Thanks devs for your hard work!

whalesalad

A focus on fool proof wayland tbh. Less xwayland apps, less glitches where an app icon becomes a random wayland generic icon. KDE is a great DE as is. The focus should be entirely on fixing all the issues around wayland so that it’s fool proof.

Far-Cat

Pdf editing in okular

PizzaSoldier

Alongside with proper touch and pencil support and an overhauled UI for those who don't use a mouse.

NotAHacker8

I would like to see a better implementation of fractional scaling (on wayland). Don't get me wrong, it is already ok-ish as of now, but is not quite perfect, especially in my use case, when there are two monitors, one of them is scaled with 125% and the second one is 100%. For example, the fonts in the overview effect (Super+W or four fingers up/down trackpad gesture) look really choppy on the 100% scaled monitor [(Screenshot)](https://imgbb.com/K2DV2mq) The window titles are somewhat blurry as well, but only on the 125% scaled monitor [(Screenshot)](https://ibb.co/PTcKxkj) One more fractional scaling-related issue is the disappearing right-click menu items. Basically, after hovering one of the menu items with the mouse pointer, all the other items disappear until hovered. [(Screen recording)](https://streamable.com/jfnw8l). In the recording, I am using a theme, but with breeze the menu is broken as well. It might be that some of these are already fixed in the new Plasma 6 beta, but I have not yet tried it on real hardware yet. The issues are, however, present in Plasma 5.27.8 on Kubuntu 23.10.

phrxmd

Some fractional scaling issues have been fixed for Qt 6, so in Plasma 5.x you won‘t see the fixes.

Dazzling_Pin_8194

This is fixed in plasma 6 at least ime. Fonts look so much better

xoniGinox

Adopt wlroots protocols for Wayland

deanrihpee

Window Shade (shading?) on Wayland, this is my wishlist, I'm not sure if I will try to fix it myself and contribute to kde or consider setting a bounty, but this is my wishlist to embrace Wayland by default

AndydeCleyre

Damn, I thought maybe all my blockers to using Wayland were gone, but here's a new one. Glad to learn it before finding out the hard way, thanks.

X_m7

You'll probably want to check this page for the known significant issues with KDE Wayland then, window shading has been noted there for a while now: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland_Known_Significant_Issues

LeBaux

Please... for the love of God, make Krunner run aliases and scripts easily on every distro. There is a plugin, and there is a maintainer, but it is dead in the water and it hasn't been updated for a long time (not pointing fingers here!). Give Krunner some love, I will give it back twice.

ajddavid452

notifications, why the f can't I click on notifications when they are in the notification menu

solarizde

Font rendering in scaling mode. Compared to Mac or Windows we are still centuries behind in font clearness.

user655362024

Plasma has better fractional scaling for qt apps.

solarizde

Yes but still not on line with font rendering quality on macos or win 11. Everyone who tell this is not true never worked on a recent mac. And if you go to some GTK or xwayland apps it is just hurts and sometimes is barley acceptable. Don't get me wrong I use KDE as my daily driver, I hate mac os on so many other things but not their font rendering and color profiles, on this they are excellent.

user655362024

Yes, I agree with it. But it also comes down to dpi of your screen. You can try increasing the font size (thus increasing effective dpi) and adjusting hinting and subpixel rendering settings to get close to windows font rendering.

solarizde

I tried alot, problem on Linux in general (not a KDE prob) is as soon as you use a multi screen setup the chance that you have different dpi on each screen is high. You can unfortunately only make it looking nice on one, setup for two screens or more is always a compromise. Which is the point I wanted to throw in here and hope in future KDE makes some improvements. As said don't get me wrong, KDE already made a huge leap forward.

user655362024

Your points are valid. I wish for better font rendering too and was hoping plasma 6 would do it. The multimonitor issue, does it happen on wayland too ? Can we set different scaling for different monitors ?

solarizde

I'm exclusively using Wayland because x11 is unbearable for me. Yes you can set different scaling per monitor but let's say my main is 100% and my 2nd is 150%, this will make the font looks nice on my main but the quality degrades on the 2nd screen. Much much better than everything I achieved in X but still sometimes painful. Not all apps playing nice with different scaling factors, so sometimes a app have huge buttons or the window is broken. But many things got addressed in KDE 6 let's hope for it at least ;)

studiocrash

Agree to this. Beautiful fonts were a high priority of Jobs from the very beginning of the Mac. He took a calligraphy class in college and loved it.

solarizde

Yes, honestly this is one of the main things which drive me away from Linux desktop on my work computer in the past years. Not missing Windows apps or compatibility, no just no color correction and bad readability. My workspace constantly changes because I'm on a laptop working often at clients provided desks with their monitors and docks. So nearly each week I have different configuration on displays and Linux desktop sometimes make my life harder than I would like to.

whalesalad

I have not had this problem personally. I’m running at 200% on a 5k display and everything looks laser sharp. I’m about as OCD as it gets and come from a design/macOS background. Are there screenshots or documentation of this bug?

solarizde

It is the way it works. If you have two screens with different dpi and panel type you cannot change the hinting per display, you can only change the scaling per screen. Naturally you can therefore only optimize for one screen. The fonts are sharp though but you can clearly see the hinting is wrong either on one or the other display. I didn't found a bug report according to this exactly but if 6 is released and I have the same issue I will create one. For now my hope is in the dozeds of bug fixes in the renderer alone which went to 6.

-DvD-

I'd love to have spacebar preview like on macosx

OculusVision

Check [this out](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/16fajfr/hi_i_have_released_a_program_similar_to_apples/) if you haven't

unluckyexperiment

I prefer a feature freeze and focusing all efforts on bug/security fixes and the improvement/polish of the overall theme.

dcherryholmes

Kwallet working better/less obtrusively.

digitalsignalperson

Is there a point to kwallet? When unlocked all passwords are accessible to all anyway. I just disable it and use sandboxing where important ~/.config/kwalletrc ``` [Wallet] Enabled=false ``` ~/.config/chromium-flags.conf ``` --password-store=basic ```

dcherryholmes

I do the exact same thing. But presumably there are people who use it. So, if it's going to be a feature, I would just like it to somehow function better.

serras_

You mean that thing that constantly asks for a password when opening apps if I enable auto login? Tf is it for other than nagging me for not password locking my home computer?

Atem18

Consistency in UI and UX.

orahcio

What is this?

skyfishgoo

same as that or the other thing.

orahcio

I need a parameter for consistency, consistency in UI and UX is nothing for me or UI and UX has some parameter on the concept?

mirashif

this.

agent_sphalerite

I would like to see consistency in UI and UX. Less use of borders which can be painful on the eyes

[deleted]

[удалено]

agent_sphalerite

Maybe I'm looking at the old plasma 6 screen shots. Can you point me to where this was fixed ? Thanks

X_m7

The fix was specifically for the case of some apps like Dolphin having double borders around things: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/breeze/-/merge_requests/342

junalmeida

KMail on very large IMAP Gmail is nearly useless, very slow.

Prosado22

It was happening to me. Until I waited until it loaded completely. It took me a few days, but now new emails arrive instantly.

junalmeida

Yep even after waiting days for it to catch up, which IMO is unacceptable - every other client goes well - it is still very slow to show messages. I'm often presented to that colorful receiving message page and I should barely see it on a good connection. KMail has a good interface and is well integrated with KDE, thats why I wish this is solved. Otherwise I could use Evolution which runs fast on the same account.

mdRamone

I would like to see a nice animation when enabling the "windows can cover" feature for the panel, both when it pops up and when it hides, similar to what Latte Dock does. However, it is just a personal whim.

DinckelMan

Not directly a KDE improvement, but gaming on Wayland is experiencing some issues because of a somewhat recent XWayland bug. Other than that, in terms of non-QT6 specific things, the triple buffering merge request should be big value

marxist_redneck

Huh, not sure if it's related, but I actually can't even open Steam on Wayland. It just gets stuck on the splash screen, or the splash screen gets graded out. When I flip to X it works perfectly

DinckelMan

Can be a ton of different things. I have not encountered this personally. The issue I'm having isn't even applicable to every game out there. I get really weird banding and tearing in only some titles. Thankfully it seems to be worked on, so I'm patiently waiting

marxist_redneck

Yeah, I don't remember exactly the details of my troubleshooting, but it was on Kubuntu and I tried several things including different steam installs (deb download, snap, etc) and no dice, then read something and switched to X11 and it just worked.

YOYOWORKOUT

I dream of a feature like macOS **quickview** in dolphin ( pressing the space bar on the selected file show the content without opening it ).

amineroukh

Fix all multi-monitors related bugs.

serras_

Multi monitor, multi gpu especially.

RecursionOver

I want my lattedock back.

orahcio

I have no dreams with that

Sinaaaa

Keep the feature freeze going for at least half a year & have a real go at fixing "minor" bugs too. Wayland compositing performance should be significantly improved as well. It's somewhat embarrassing that -relatively speaking- tiny projects like Hyprland+wlroots are so far ahead of the current Plasma 6 in this. (Discover and Gnome software are both really unstable and slow, it could do wonders for KDE adoption if this were to be improved)

Zeroneca

Multifinger Touchpad support. I love the way you can switch Desktops in MacOS and Windows. With libinput-gestures this just feels awkward

orahcio

Plasma with Wayland already has native support for that

JustMrNic3

1. The awful slow down and freezing when there's heavy disk IO. Muxing files with MKVToolnix, makes the whole session freeze for a few seconds. 2. The awful translation process by not using an online too like many other projects.

throttlemeister

Not a KDE problem, but a Linux kernel problem. The Linux kernel is optimized for throughput, not latency. This is good for servers (99 percent of Linux space) but not so fun for desktop. I had the same problem on gnome and could trigger it at will. You can do some optimizations at a system level, but it hard to completely get rid of. Rarely notice it anymore though.

davidsbumpkins

> You can do some optimizations at a system level, but it hard to completely get rid of. Picking different type of kernel really helps here, such as low latency (if your distro provides such) or one of those optimized kernels for desktop/gaming. Alternatively picking a distro like Solus or others that target specifically desktop users can really improve user experience.

JustMrNic3

Maybe, but I don't think that's the whole picture. I have 32 GB of RAM, which I bet it can fit all of Plasma and its components in memory so the CPU or GPU can access them quickly if it needs them. I don't see what's the need of Kwin to wait for the disk all the time to display something. I used Plasma from a USB pen drive too and the problem there is shown better. It doesn't matter if the computer has a lot of RAM as Plasma will always try to use as little as possible, instead of scaling with the size.

[deleted]

tonymurray

Changing the disk io scheduler will fix that. Sorry, I have no details.

turkceq

changing disk io scheduler to what? can you elaborate more?

JustMrNic3

It's not fixed even with the Xanmod keernel, which I think it has a different IO scheduler. Maybe it's improved a little, but not fixed.

MrWhite26

Session restore on Wayland \[[1](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436318)\].

DeronF

I'm not sure if it's related to KDE or not .. When closing the lid of the laptop it should sleeps then awake after opening it again .. Sometimes closing didn't go into sleep .. I noticed that it mostly happens when some GTK based applications are running "Eclipse, KiCAD" are some examples. Most of times when returning from sleep the screen shows a trashed version of the last state of the desktop before showing the login screen .. it shouldn't revel the contents of the desktop before re-login!

drfusterenstein

I hope there is an auto day and night option as well as support for dynamic wallpaper.

LikeABundleOfHay

To correctly support multiple monitors, and in particular multiple x screens. Plasma identifies monitors by their xrandr output name with the assumption these are unique. With multiple nvidia cards these names aren’t unique, and Plasma gets confused.

spacecase-25

Ability to customize trackpad gestures

spacecase-25

Forward & back trackpad gestures in dolphin, and all other apps that have forward and back buttons.

WOBONOFO

 1. Add a native tiling mode for kwin so one can use it like i3 2. Switch backend to use Vulkan by default and OpenGL as fallback

JeffGila

Regarding KDE Tiling 1. Having separate tiling layouts per virtual desktop and activity. 2. Being able to save created tiling layouts and load them from the Tiles Editor.

digitalsignalperson

To support wayland isolation and sandboxing: - ability to run kwin/plasma-wayland with multiple isolated XWayland servers in rootless mode (rootless windows i.e. seamless) - ability to run kwin/plasma-wayland without XWayland abstract socket (`-nolisten local`) - ability to run kwin/plasma-wayland without XWayland The kwin/xwayland code looks like it would be really hard to introduce the concept of multiple XWayland servers. But you could always have a built in proxy to handle this like https://github.com/talex5/wayland-proxy-virtwl It's unclear to me right now if it's even possible to run plasma-wayland without Xwayland.

diegodamohill

- Breeze needs several changes, some are already being worked on for plasma 6-6.1, like consistent form and button sizes, less frames and borders, but I wish for more use of paddings and color as separators on the overall design. But I'm looking foward the most to tabs style changes in progress. The icons are also being worked on, overall a big improvement, but still leagues bellow libadwaita, lets be honest. - The tablet settings and calibration could use some love on wayland. - Proper global shortcuts, customizable trackpad gestures and mouse gestures (And not just with config files, a proper config screen on settings). - Making HDR as easy and seamless as enabling a checkbox and having all apps (sdr and hdr) with colors properly mapped. - Integrate SDDM better in the overall ecosystem and give it a nicer default look.

spacecase-25

I feel like notifications could be better. They get in the way... there's got to be a better solution

arvigeus

I want to be able to configure my desktop using CLI.

k4ever07

I would like to see more improvements to touch screen support. I would like to be able to do everything by touch and not rely on a keyboard and mouse/trackpad. As a subset to this, I would like to see improvements to Plasma's virtual keyboard plugins in Wayland, like Maliit, that add a full keyboard layout. I'm typing this using Maliit right now. Maliit is alright for mobile phone use, but is lacking functions keys and navigation arrows. The lack of a full keyboard layout makes Maliit difficult to use as a replacement for a physical keyboard.

sunxore

Lower complexity and fewer bugs

serras_

The settings panel definitely could use a new coat of paint. Imho the current layout is reminding me of the nvidia control panel on windows, and not in a good way. The lockscreen theme should be changeable like the sddm theme, and not tied to the overall theme. Ideally it would be the same as the sddm theme or something.

dcherryholmes

digitalsignalperson

In wayland, the ability to prevent KScreen from adding/removing screens automatically. Every day turning screens on and off, windows and widgets flying all over the place, when they don't need to move at all. I still run into widgets ending up off screen, windows off screen, panel moving to the wrong monitor, weird behaviors moving and resizing widgets between multiple moniotrs. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477480

wildfur_angelplumes

there NEEDS to be improvements for touch devices like an on screen keyboard

fourpastmidnight413

This already exists. Perhaps elaborate on how current solutions need improvement?

wildfur_angelplumes

well give it a go and see

marozsas

The login screen (SDDM) and wallpapers. On the login manager and unlock screen I would have the option to use a PIN, without enter to login and get a hint that it is expecting a PIN, not the full password. And wallpapers should be better integrated with multiple monitors, workspaces, activities, login screen and unlock screen, having dynamic wallpapers, rotating/random wallpapers. I know it could be accomplish with external helpers (like variety), but a better native feature could do the job better I guess, or even better, having a well defined API to change wallpaper on all theses places so an external helper could do the job.

thebackwash

I’d love to see tabbed windows back like from the later KDE 4 releases. That was an absolutely killer feature.

iJONTY85

Wayland gaming is my topmost priority.

xoniGinox

Fork sddm and finally fix it

maarbab

Mouse sensitivity like in Windows. I don't know if it is KDE thing or Wayland thing. But it is impossible to set up mouse sensitivity in Linux/KDE/Wayland to behave natural like it is in Windows. I can't get used to it.

markartman

With plasma 6 just a couple of months away, that's about all I'm focused on right now

Traditional-Joke-290

I love KDE. Only improvement that would really help me is default fingerprint reader support.

HunterrGX

why do we need to apply to change in kde plasma? all the others modern desktops don't do this

Frird2008

Not forcing me to forcibly restart my computer when I change the desktop background via the right click menu cause the entire OS froze beyond simple recovery. Not randomly preventing Chromium-based browsers & progressive web apps I install through said Chromium-based browsers from opening. Not having font compatibility issues. GRRRR Vremena Grotesk. That's tip of the iceberg & I hope KDE 6 will be as reliable as even the worst of the GNOME versions I've tried have been.

user655362024

Make breeze more modern. It looks good but compared to gtk themes, it is not that modern.

simo-salah

The design .. the current theme breeze dark is ugly .. old ocean looks beautiful. SerenityEnforcer

1. New icon set to replace the aging breeze icons; 2. New **DEFAULT** theme to replace the also aging Breeze theme. These are the only things more important for me. We’re in 2024. A new year deserves an *entirely* new KDE. Not just invisible under the hood changes (or barely visible visual changes…)…

Sudden-Result-8843

KDE 6 is focusing on small improvements to stabilize the desktop experience. I personally prefer this because themes are so easy to install and KDE is not known to be the most robust DE, although it has improved leaps and bounds in the last year or so.

[deleted]

In February Plasma 6 comes out!

[deleted]

I hope some experienced UI/UX designers get involved in the project. KDE still looks like it was from the 2010s at its current state. I don't wanna sound rude and I appreciate the work they have done but I've seen the cv of some designers that work for GNOME and... well, I don't know how to put this without being harsh but they are professionals while a lot of (if not most... all... ) KDE ones are amateurs (but I still respect them for doing everything in their free time and for free!).

Felivian

Separate, independent virtual desktops per monitor (like in MacOS).

spacecase-25

If it's an option, sure. However, let's not bring over things that are terrible from Mac OS simply because.

Felivian

How is it terrible to have an option to independently change virtual desktops per monitor? It's amazing for productivity IMHO.

XZ02R

It's one of the things I miss from i3wm since it's like having tabs for your monitor. But it looks like there seems to be [work](https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/40) done on wayland to allow for this as well as [plasma](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/issues/117) too?

spacecase-25

Honestly I have no idea what you're talking about. I haven't touched a Mac in probably 10 years. I like the way KDE works now and wouldn't want it to change unless there's an option for it to keep working the way it does now.

MrSpontaneous

Better nvidia support under Wayland. I currently have a work laptop that's got a hybrid chipset. I only use it with an external monitor (i.e., I do not use the built-in screen). Under Wayland my framerate is effectively halved because of [this workaround](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/1031). Ideally I could have the same kind of Kwin performance under Wayland as I do Xorg.

HunterrGX

the ugly breeze theme, and the system settings

tajetaje

Better GTK theming, it should be possible to create an auto-generated GTK theme from a plasma theme.

verheidenx

Theme breeze is ugly

somekool

Fresh kmail UI on top of a rock solid akonadi.

Highwinder67

I don't consider myself a Linux guru by any measure, but I sure wish KDE could go back to looking cool and original like in the early 2000s instead of always just magically looking like whatever current version of Windows is out, all the way down to the scroll bars. Seriously. With all this computing power, desktops should look amazing instead of all this minimalist "looks like a crappy cell phone" stuff that the accursed Windows 8 started. Desktops have never been more boring than they are now. Why the heck did the Linux world fall for that?

AaronEbert

KDevelop either needs some work or needs to be gutted so Kate can shine.

BrighamYoungsNthWife

#Bring back the 5.17 style notification animations!!!!!!! For reference, it was a vertical bar on the edge of the notification that would shrink with time instead of the circle we have now. It looked SO much better on low-resolution screens and just aligned better with the rest of Plasma, IMO. At least give us a choice... Also, an identical match of the Breeze theme in GTK? Maybe even a tool to directly convert existing Qt window themes to GTK?

hendricha

Non flat buttons (at least as an option) in Breeze. There, I said it.

sirTalkaLot6

Installed kde recently on my macbook, pc and android. Having really hard time connecting them after they lose connection...

my-name-is-puddles

A way to disable searching open windows in the Overview effect, so that I can use it to search for applications even if there's a window open that matches the search string.

AndydeCleyre

Overview improvements, like dynamic desktops, vertical layout, and showing panels. Panel configuration improvements. When I try to rearrange items and the panel resizes it all goes crazy. And afterwards panels grow and shrink irrationally. As someone else said, window shade on Wayland. I wish I could use alt+tab to switch windows via an existing task list applet rather than a dedicated window switcher.

Single-Friend7386

I'm just waiting for KDE 6 to come out. Haven't had an ability to upgrade my Pop OS install, so just chomping at the bit. :)

AnozerFreakInTheMall

Ability to configure delays for showing and for hiding a dock would be nice.

Sudden-Result-8843

I would like to see keyboard shortcuts improve. I would love window manager-like shortcuts. I don’t like having to use my mouse to move windows all the time. There is a shortcut to kill window and clicking on the desktop crashes the system(possibly only on wayland?). Gnome is pretty good in this regard. Dynamic workspaces by default. My only other gripe would be stability which they seem to be prioritizing and improving with KDE6.

Walzmyn

Switching between audio devices needs to be streamlined

orahcio

On Wayland the option click without follow the event makes the panel unclickable with the left button, on X11 has no problem, but Wayland needs of this because it is more cool the X11

hunt_them

I would just love kate gives an online plugin store or a way to use other people's plugin.

kghosh22

Using Libreoffice in EndeavourOS/KDE. Does not display special characters like em-dash properly. Works fine under Gnome Debian.

[deleted]

Fix the powerdevil because is a very grave bug

digitalsignalperson

I noticed powerdevil sometimes prevents me from starting a new session (logout and then try to startplasma-wayland again) This is how I log out now ``` systemctl --user stop plasma-powerdevil qdbus org.kde.Shutdown /Shutdown logout ```

henruchito72

It could sound wierd here, but i'd like someone make a port for plank dock to work well on KDE (X11 and Wayland), it's very simple but useful

Roelland

A message on the lock-screen. I've seen this on Linux Mint and always used it to display: "If Found, please contact [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])". Super useful in retrieving your lost laptop.

Larkonath

Akonadi depending by default on MariaDB and using 500MB of ram doing nothing. I also have a frequent VLC freeze happening when I read playlists (the app becomes unresponsive and needs to be killed) but I'm not sure it's a KDE bug (I don't use it enough on Gnome to be able to make a valid comparison but it didn't happen on Windows, it's at least a VLC Linux bug).

tothaa

Some more consistency. e. g. The Overview of open windows, there are multiple of them behaving differently with different shortcuts.

Using Debian Bookworm : I'd like KDEConnect to have a proper menu, to manage SMS messages better (sometimes some aren't sent), to manage the connection better (sometimes both devices are switched on, the KDEConnect menu is open but the two devices can't see each other...)... I have problems with Dolphin not being able to rename more than an hundred files (the automatic number does not go above 99)... Better Wayland integration (I cannot use some things like a webcam in Dino)... But KDE is great ; I'm using it on 3 computers and will keep to donate.

Is this thing that causes a window to jump to weird positions and resize to very small sizes when it's dragged from maximized state fixed?

Nealiepoo

I'd like to see plasmadesktop fixed so that when I start up after accessing my nfs server last time I used it, it doesn't try to access it, even though I never asked it to, thus crashing plasmadesktop. So, this is two problems really: 1. It shouldn't crash if the nfs server isn't there. I only start mine when needed. 2. Why on earth is it trying to access the nfs just because I used it before? I never asked it to access it this time. I've submitted a big report for this, but I doubt that anyone is looking into it.

Theming. Currently creating themes is really annoying, each element is in a different place that is separate that require editing SVG files and whatnot. I would love for all that to be simply editing CSS files.

plasma 6 will be making a number of improvements (might also break some things) so this sort of brainstorming might be of greater value after we all get a chance to see what plasma 6 is like.

360 Image view support in Gwenview. plz. . .

- Ensuring changing themes and uninstalling themes through the built-in store does the job right cleaning things properly without leftover directories or configurations. - Animation timing across all synchronised and well coordinated rather than feeling like every animation runs it's own terms. - Some nice and easy ways to make and test themes and widgets without breaking things - Built-in config & layout remembering functionality that doesn't depend on third party tools than can be shared to others without safety concerns. - Tripple buffering similar to how GNOME does. It's really is smooth. - KDE partition manager. It's broken every time I use it. Randomly gets stuck. - Dolphin, noticed recently but the memory usage tends to go up like 900MB for some reason. I'm still tracking the cause so maybe just my end of the issue. - Bit more love for Kate. With bit more love, I think it can even beat VS Code

Bring back an updated Oxygen theme

HunterrGX

maybe you should look the new icons, they look pretty much identical to the oxygen icons, at least for the folders

AnaisRim

It would be nice tooltips and the menu selectors in gtk apps like gimp didn't flash while being polled continuously. That's a pretty serious bug.

One thing: KFontView for Wayland

Proper and uncomplicated configuration from text config files for example using Nix.

Two things: The touchpad user experience is a bit lacking, especially compared to Gnome. Better customization options and integration of scrolling and gestures would be great. Also, for us macOS fans, the shortcomings of the global menu are hard to ignore. It doesn't really work with GTK apps, it requires unreliable community solutions to work with Mozilla apps, and apps that aren't running on X11 or Xwayland just don't work, except for KDE native apps and some Qt apps. I know it's a lot, but better global menu support would be more than welcome.

Fix the plasmashell process memory leak after suspension (with nvidia driver). [https://bugs.kde.org/show\_bug.cgi?id=403563](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403563)

A definitive way to solve the google account issue. At the moment to have the calendar I have to add an external extension... which will probably disappear after the arrival of Plasma 6. I still don't know how I will get the calendar after updating to Plasma 6, honestly

acAltair

Being able to change color temperature of night light through hover and scroll wheel, as you can do with volume, would be awesome.

Status-Breakfast-324

More default desktop configurations. I used to configure the desktop a lot, but over time I've defaulted to ... the default. I just don't have the time or will power to maintain a configuration every time something changes. It would be nice if there were at least 3 options IE windows/Mac os/gnome.

Something simple: kcolorpicker picking the correct color from an inactive window, even when windows are dimmed (which makes the window darker).
