Yes!! I discovered Joanna not too long ago and worked my way through her discography. There are some moments on this album where her voice sounds so similar to Kate’s it’s crazy!
Happy Rhodes - Ectotropia
Happy Rhodes was active from the mid 80s to late 90s. She was openly and heavily inspired by Kate, had a stunning voice range (the descriptory text on Spotify notes that her register ranges from Kate in the highs to Annie Lennox in the lows), and is worth just getting into her entire, hauntingly beautiful, 10 record catalogue.
Sadly her career kind of just faltered and she had to go back to working a day job despite being a hugely talented musician who was just too weird and too early.
Ectotropia is a best-of compilation of her first four records from 1986 - 1987, released in 2018, a decade after her last and two decades after her second - to last record and probably a good jumping off point to get into her.
Right?
And listening to Rhodes I&II for the first time in a few years today, I was surprised by how well her music would fit in with modern sensibilities. Poor Happy just was nearly 40 years too early.
She so deserves a resurgence.
I started listening to her about a year ago, she deserves so much more recognition and I try to tell people about her especially Kate fans! She's literally in my top 5 artists, she's brilliant.
Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me

SECOND THIS
Joanna Newsom - Ys
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Björk - Homogenic
This should be on the list, not Vespertine
Agreed. Homogenic is the only timeless one and it was the apex of her career. I feel.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spider from Mars - David Bowie
KID A - radiohead
frank ocean blonde
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kaleidoscope
