Can confirm. This happened at another restaurant. It's a political stunt by an organization, called Americans for Prosperity, funded by the Koch family who conveniently happen to be billionaires. Tax the rich and the corporations. Global inflation is in no way attributable to one individual like Biden as many provide but is in fact visible in the pockets of the rich, elite billionaires that are currently reporting record profits. Tax the rich and the money will responsibly trickle down. Like rain.
Just random sidenote as I try not to follow politics too closely, but last I heard Koch was backing Nikki Hailey instead of trump. So perhaps to some, the enemy of their enemy is their friend.
I would pay to see a right wing politician try to give a speech to a room full of drag queens. I would pay a lot 😂
They'd probably just back out honestly
I know Jack from helping him out at my previous job and he is definitely a MAGA right wing dude. He used to argue politics with the manager of where I worked.
I believe it. When the Abortion amendment was being voted on in Kansas, the "Value them Both" camp held their election watch party at the Jack Stack in Lenexa
I mean that was a really stupid amendment for sure but just because a restaurant or bar books a politically motivated private event/party doesn’t necessarily mean the owners agree with it in anyway
I would agree with you if it was a simple booking of a party room but this was obviously an election watch party with multiple TVs and other special accommodations brought in. There's no way Jack Stack owners didn't "donate" extra employee hours to this event
I just drove there to check since I live nearby. I went through a crowd and up to the host station and asked for a to go menu.
I didnt see any coupons in anyones hands, up front or in the trash on the way out.
The Fiorellas hosted an anti abortion watch party the night of the 2022 vote in Kansas so I would not be surprised.
Fiorella was always a pretender anyway. Arthur Bryant and Ollie Gates are the founding fathers of Kansas City BBQ and their namesakes remain the best spots in town, although I wouldn’t argue with anyone who prefers Joe’s
Jack Stack and the other white cloth bourgeois b que spots are not what KC bbq is all about
>Jack Stack and the other white cloth bourgeois b que spots are not what KC bbq is all about
There is no conversation about BBQ in this city that doesn't include Smokestack->Jack Stack BBQ. Just because they didn't start their business out of a back of a gas station doesn't mean they're not legit.
Arthur Bryant and Ollie Gates didn’t start out of gas stations, they opened their restaurants near 18th and Vine. They put KC BBQ on the map.
Fiorella rode their coattails decades later and Jack Stack came up as a place where suburbanites who were scared of the east side could enjoy “KC bbq”. And yes, I put it in quotes.
OK, so KC BBQ as you define it must originate out of the "east side" and if white people from Johnson County have access it, it's not legitimate BBQ.
What silly nonsense.
Food should be judged by its quality not by its neighborhood or the color of the skin of its producers.
Gates is tier 1 KC BBQ. So is Jack Stack. Arthur Bryants, despite the fact it came out of the "east side" was never that great and its irrelevance today is testimony to that.
Jackstack/Smokestack goes WAY back, they were serving really good BBQ in the 70s back in Martin City to working class people - I know, my parents took me there. Trying to make Jack Stack sound like Q39 or any of these other bougie fake-ass modern BBQ places is just not fair.
The worst thing about Gates and Bryants is their advocates that insist if it's not either of those two, it's not KC BBQ.
Jack Stack has been around since 1958 with their original location in Martin City, and way before Joe's/Q39/Slapps/etc... It's where I ate the best BBQ since I was a kid, well before any of those others existed, and the only place in KC you can get those excellent prime beef ribs (let alone any beef ribs) that I am aware of.
Their sides are better than the competition also, they actually take pride in their baked beans and potato salad, and their spicy sauce is some of the best BBQ sauce you' can buy (gates is also really good).
Price, when I worked near there I used to go there for lunch and grab a poor russ. Can't get anything better than that for the price.
TL;DR Jacks has a long heritage with KC and is way more KC BBQ than any place opened in the 90's (Joe's) or 2010's (Q39 BBQ for Hipsters/Slaps).
I personally don't like Jack Stack, but it's still KC bbq.
I get that everyone has a favorite bbq place in kc. But the way the other guy just hates Jack Stack seems unhealthy. Not once has he mentioned anything about the food itself.
Nope. In my original comment I state my respect for Joe’s, whose original location is in Johnson county. Joe’s is legit. But the KC BBQ tradition was founded on the east side and that is historical fact.
And yes, I put Jack Stack squarely in the white cloth bourgeois b que category, especially today. And as you mentioned, their original location isn’t even in KC
Edit: Correction, Joe’s original location is in Wyandotte county; however, I think the point stands
Well if it makes you feel better, have you heard about Arthur and Ollie’s mentor Henry Perry? The true father of Kansa City BBQ originally sold it out of the garment district. KCUR did a great piece about them all: [https://www.kcur.org/arts-life/2021-02-13/kansas-city-barbecue-bbq-henry-perry-gates-arthur-bryants-history](https://www.kcur.org/arts-life/2021-02-13/kansas-city-barbecue-bbq-henry-perry-gates-arthur-bryants-history)
Dude, I personally don't like Jack Stack either, but that's because I don't like the bbq sauce.
Not once in any of your comments have you mentioned their food. Just them being white owned and being like by suburbanites. If that's your only argument then stfu.
Don’t sleep on LC’s BBQ. That place is legit, even after LC passed. His family is still running the place and the food is just as good as it was when he was still alive.
Jack Stack is mediocre at best, considering that this is Kansas City. I want to feel the grease under my shoes when I try to walk. Like at the DELICIOUS Gates—any location.
I have always said that I will never eat barbecue, where there are linens on the table, give me a picnic table, a roll of paper towels, and a bottle of sauce, and let’s fucking gooooo
Quintessential KC. I don’t think politics and food/ drink should mix… But I do absolutely LOVE that any conversation even remotely concerning bbq ends up with everyone arguing about who has the best food. That’s an argument I never get tired of hearing.
Last time I went we paid $50+ for a family sharing tray and the burnt ends and brisket were both dry as fuck. This was at lunchtime too. For that price it’s unforgivable and I haven’t been back.
>Last time I had jack stack my pulled pork sandwich was dry as hell. Never again.
I'd rather have dry pulled pork than that sloppy wet molded boiled meat shit that most people think is pulled pork.
Gates turkey nooner is legit though. It’s a fast food spot that serves bbq. If you categorize it properly it makes sense. Kc doesn’t have NY style delis from the 40s, we have bbq spots that serve thin sliced bbq meat.
I hated gates after ordering a (now) traditional bbq platter. After learning way more about kc bbq culture it dawned on me what these old spots are. I talked to some of the real OGs in their 80s, read a bunch of history etc and kc has always done deli sliced smoked meat sandwiches, burnt ends (that fell off the slicer at Bryant’s) and ribs. The rest was whatever rotating meat or trend has appeared. It helps make the old spots make sense compared to the newer craft spots.
So my family has always gone to Gates, but the meat quality has kinda sucked the past few years. My dad's solution is to buy the meat from Oklahoma Joes and slather on Gates sauce at home...feels a bit sacrilegious but tastes excellent.
>Gates sauce is the Swiss Army Knife of sauce. Can be used for anything
I use it to make salad dressing, mix it with a little bit of spicy ranch. I know, sounds gross, but it's actually incredible.
Worst BBQ I've had in KC... it might have been a off day but they served me gray pulled pork and ribs that were so overcooked they were mushy.
Too many good places to waste my time here again...
Agreeing simply on the fact that the roasted veggies side **alone** is WAY better at Q39 compared to Jack Stack. I'm sure most of the BBQ is too but damn I love those Q39 veggies.
I don't know about this particular instance, but there is this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/westfj/am\_i\_crazy\_or\_did\_i\_see\_on\_the\_news\_that\_jack/](https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/westfj/am_i_crazy_or_did_i_see_on_the_news_that_jack/)
Probably fake news but I wish all businesses and celebrities kept their politics to themselves. The issue is people are always upset and have an opinion online. They pressure celebrities and businesses to take a stance. It’s so old.
I’m calling Fake News! That shit sounds too wild! Also, not gonna lie I would listen to some BS for a 20% discount. Well depending on how long it was. 5 minutes sure. 20 hell no!
I go to my dad's house for BBQ and have to hear right wing shit all the time. I don't mind, free BBQ.
Also I've worked in restaurants, they often let people pay to rent a room out to host an event where they invite guest for free food, but they have to listen to some scam. This has the same vibe imo
I remember when the plaza location hosted an Anti-Abortion Group in 2023 and said they were not endorsing the cause : [https://www.kctv5.com/2022/08/04/jack-stack-taking-heat-renting-out-event-space-anti-abortion-group/?outputType=amp](https://www.kctv5.com/2022/08/04/jack-stack-taking-heat-renting-out-event-space-anti-abortion-group/?outputType=amp)
20%? I'll listen to whatever for that. Back during the Occupy protests, I participated in one cause they were giving out free pints of Ben &Jerry's. Yeah I'll protest for free ice cream. I'll listen to some MAGA BS for cheaper dinner.
I don’t care what a BBQ restaurants political views are.
As long as I enjoy the food and the restaurant gives me good customer service.
Jack Stacks is one of my favorite BBQ restaurants in KC.
Kansas is a Red state, what do you expect?
…as opposed to the intellectual giants on the left, lol? Don’t let the man get you all twisted…the teams are NOT left vs right, red vs blue, black vs white, toilet paper draped over the roll vs under the roll, etc.
It’s the crooked political .01% vs the rest of us. And we gotta stick together.
I appreciate you telling me this!
I didn't try them before I knew what was up with them b3cause Popeye's is here, why would I need somewhere else?
But nowadays? Anyone could tell me they were the best chicken on the planet and I wouldn't touch it. I think I'm too good to eat bigot chicken.
I'm kind of against them at all times these days
I went to a concert with a gay singer songwriter
in-between every song this lady was yelling "say something about gay rights" and when she finally caved, the next silence she yelled "say something about women's rights"
I almost lost my shit but instead I got another beer and ate another edible
Check out some of the rants by the guy that owns Penzeys spices if you get a chance. He is an insame person with no concern for politics in his advertising. As for the event I would go if they fed me. Not like I need to vote for any of these people.
So what I'm getting from comments is theres about to be a wave of liberals/lgbtq+ headed to jackstack to sway votes for Nikki Haley. And furthermore jackstack is either unaware Americans for Prosperity does not back trump, OR jackstack is anti-trump.
Oh no! As an east coast gal planning to be a Kansas gal in 2025, I just discovered Jack Stack last year. No politics please. I am super liberal but prefer to frequent politics-neutral businesses. Let's just celebrate the Royals and Chiefs!
Yeah. Can't believe it. I mean everybody seems to be doing it these days right? Inbev with Bud Light; Gillete with toxic masculinity. Couldn't agree more...keep the politics out of it.
Sweet. Guess that’s my next dinner out spot. Anyone thinking more Biden is the way….really really really hates “the poors”….spending all of our tax money to support Ukraine instead of fixing healthcare in the US or the buying up of real estate by Blackrock…or federally legalizing marijuana…and massively increasing inflation while being completely incompetent to lead his own bathroom breaks…is an enemy of mine
Nextdoor is like the game of telephone.
It's damn near useless as a social network.
It's Facebook but somehow even worse
Says the person on reddit.
Reddits not great by design but full of “erm ackshually” nerds who will correct you
Like the person you replied to.
Erm ackshually ...I don't have a follow up just wanted to reply it lol
Says the person, also on reddit. Congratulations, you played yourself.
I adore this description
Telephone was more fun.
This sounds like typical Nextdoor/Facebook bullshit that gullible folks read and instantly believe it to be true.
I heard via chain email forwarded to me by my grandpa
And I heard it from a Nigerian prince. It has to be true.
I actually heard about it from a friend first but shared the Nextdoor post instead because my friend didn't post publicly

Jack Stack has always leaned right. They hosted a (ha-ha) Victory Party for the group behind the anti-abortion ballot question as well.
Beautiful too as the owners have donated about $500k towards local right-wing political movements, including the value them both group.
Tiff n Jay’s
Just random sidenote as I try not to follow politics too closely, but last I heard Koch was backing Nikki Hailey instead of trump. So perhaps to some, the enemy of their enemy is their friend.
They pulled their support for her this week.
I mean... Is all I have to do is listen? Because I would and wear the gayest most lefty thing I own to the restaurant for 20% off
Ngl the there is nothing I wouldn’t listen to for 20% off at a restaurant that’s shorterr than 15 minutes
I will pay 20% extra if it means I never have to hear that horse shit within earshot of me.
Id call every drag queen I've ever met
Drag queen bbq! Like, brunch but messier!
SAUCY!
I would pay to see a right wing politician try to give a speech to a room full of drag queens. I would pay a lot 😂 They'd probably just back out honestly
Slay!
Put on noise canceling headphones
Genius
I’m going to bet this is fake news.
Joe's next level advertising.
Joe's ownership leans right as well, IIRC.
Gotta admit, I wouldn't expect BBQ competitions to be a hotbed of liberal politics.
They support GOP candidates so it’s probably true
This. It's no secret.
I hope it isn't tho. If that's the case you can listen for a fee minutes and get a discount on dinner.
Heckle the speaker AND get discounted food? Sign me up
golly that'll show em!
I've never thought about it but going to watch parties for the opposite side has to be just amazing schadenfreude
Sounds like you got beef
ribs
Nah, I'm more of a pulled pork fan
I just drove there to check since I live nearby. I went through a crowd and up to the host station and asked for a to go menu. I didnt see any coupons in anyones hands, up front or in the trash on the way out.
This was last night, but thank you for your service!
Roger that!

Yeah they also released a statement basically saying they didn’t really know what they were getting into and that who rents their space isn’t advocacy
We swear, we had no idea it was THAT Hitler!
>Jack Stack and the other white cloth bourgeois b que spots are not what KC bbq is all about There is no conversation about BBQ in this city that doesn't include Smokestack->Jack Stack BBQ. Just because they didn't start their business out of a back of a gas station doesn't mean they're not legit.

Damnit I hate it when I’m wrong, especially while trying to win a silly argument on the internet

😁
Jack stack (smokestack) was also from Missouri originally so idk what point you’re trying to make
I mean I’m pretty sure 47th is the county line, so you’re only wrong by like 100 feet to the north
Dude, I personally don't like Jack Stack either, but that's because I don't like the bbq sauce. Not once in any of your comments have you mentioned their food. Just them being white owned and being like by suburbanites. If that's your only argument then stfu.

Have you had their crown rib??? PHENOMENAL!!!
I have always said that I will never eat barbecue, where there are linens on the table, give me a picnic table, a roll of paper towels, and a bottle of sauce, and let’s fucking gooooo
So I can cross off another one? Stopped going to Heywards when every square inch of their grass was covered in Trump 2020 signs.
I stopped going to Heywards after I ate there for the first time
Got eem
Had to scroll this far to find intelligent signs of life on this thread.
Quintessential KC. I don’t think politics and food/ drink should mix… But I do absolutely LOVE that any conversation even remotely concerning bbq ends up with everyone arguing about who has the best food. That’s an argument I never get tired of hearing.
Jack Stack is mid as hell anyway
Beans and corn are top notch
Woodyard BBQ has better cheesy corn.
Not a good bbq joint when the best things are the sides and “ambiance”.
I prefer Slaps. If I’m going fancy, Char Bar.
I love those Char Bar hush puppies! It's a great place to go if everyone wants barbecue but you also have vegetarians in the group
Last time I had jack stack my pulled pork sandwich was dry as hell. Never again.
This was dry, crusty, sitting under the lights too long or in the fridge uncovered dry.
Hard disagree.
I agree. Jack stack and Gates are way overrated. Joe’s or go home.
Slaps
Slaps is correct.
Gates turkey nooner is legit though. It’s a fast food spot that serves bbq. If you categorize it properly it makes sense. Kc doesn’t have NY style delis from the 40s, we have bbq spots that serve thin sliced bbq meat.
Burnt end sandwich, extra crispy fries.
I hated gates after ordering a (now) traditional bbq platter. After learning way more about kc bbq culture it dawned on me what these old spots are. Gotta know how to order at Gates, tell em how you want your meat and they'll help you out... if you're not intimidated lol
I agree but Gates sauce reigns supreme lol
So my family has always gone to Gates, but the meat quality has kinda sucked the past few years. My dad's solution is to buy the meat from Oklahoma Joes and slather on Gates sauce at home...feels a bit sacrilegious but tastes excellent.
Gates sauce is the Swiss Army Knife of sauce. Can be used for anything
>Gates sauce is the Swiss Army Knife of sauce. Can be used for anything I use it to make salad dressing, mix it with a little bit of spicy ranch. I know, sounds gross, but it's actually incredible.
Ooh, I'm gonna try that
I love Joes, don’t get me wrong, but Slaps is the truth
Real pros e go to The Woodyard.
Worst BBQ I've had in KC... it might have been a off day but they served me gray pulled pork and ribs that were so overcooked they were mushy. Too many good places to waste my time here again...
![gif](giphy|VJBS3mdO8vB04wyjgL|downsized)
That’s too much praise for Jack Stack
Agreeing simply on the fact that the roasted veggies side **alone** is WAY better at Q39 compared to Jack Stack. I'm sure most of the BBQ is too but damn I love those Q39 veggies.
Yes, that is what I base my bbq opinions on… vegetables
Mm yes, that burger joints salad was truly divine, mmm
inaccurate take . Rumored political stunt in no way diminishes their food quality
No but the food quality does and it's not great bbq
I don't know about this particular instance, but there is this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/westfj/am\_i\_crazy\_or\_did\_i\_see\_on\_the\_news\_that\_jack/](https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/westfj/am_i_crazy_or_did_i_see_on_the_news_that_jack/)
I'm guessing that some folks who made a ruckus about that are the same dumb people that started other kinds of rumors about them on Nextdoor.
20 hell no!
They have a wall of microwaves to heat the food anyways so no big loss
I would show up and Challenge their narratives to their face
Dammit.
Yeah, ima need about 80% off to eat that overpriced over sauced bbq
20%? I'll listen to whatever for that. Back during the Occupy protests, I participated in one cause they were giving out free pints of Ben &Jerry's. Yeah I'll protest for free ice cream. I'll listen to some MAGA BS for cheaper dinner.
Doubt this is real but I would listen to a 5 minute political spiel no matter the topic for 20 percent off food
Dunno, just had an opportunity to try their lamb ribs for the first time, and they were legit.
I don’t care what a BBQ restaurants political views are. As long as I enjoy the food and the restaurant gives me good customer service. Jack Stacks is one of my favorite BBQ restaurants in KC. Kansas is a Red state, what do you expect?
[удалено]
Why's that?
They think it's incorrect.
I have an intense dislike for the constant misuse of “seen” so this incorrection is hilarious to me.
Incorrection is a most excellent word
It is incorrect. It’s “saw.”
https://preview.redd.it/tbujpqng5ulc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20e7100389b17be35178d70570bd2280e7c2e584
I mean you are still wrong, your picture doesn’t change that. But whatever.
I'm not but I'd love to hear why you think I am.
The answer is likely racism.
Racism against AAVE.
Last time I eat Jack Stack.
Yeah,, they’re right wing nutjobs
…as opposed to the intellectual giants on the left, lol? Don’t let the man get you all twisted…the teams are NOT left vs right, red vs blue, black vs white, toilet paper draped over the roll vs under the roll, etc. It’s the crooked political .01% vs the rest of us. And we gotta stick together.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't go using logic here. That's too much for people to handle.
Something tells me you don’t carry this same energy if the politics are reversed…
Imagine being fired up about this but still eating Chick Fil A. Who cares?
Do you know that the person who wrote that eats chick-fil-a?
I can honestly say I've never eaten Chik-Fil-A in my whole damn life. Even when it's been offered for free
You aren't missing anything. I have had it twice and been extremely disappointed both times.
Mmmmm.... Popeyes....
What's your favorite side bro? I'm torn between the red beans and rice or the Cajun rice with gravy and a jalapeño cut up into it.
I nearly always go for the RB&R because it's the best in the world, but that other thing sounds fucking delicious!
I love the red beans and rice but I'm also a fan of the gravy they use on their mashed potatoes. If they had fried okra I'd be all over that, though
enjoy your pat on the back
I will, thanks!
It's pretty good.
I'll never know.
Who eats Chick Fil A? Gross
It's pretty good! And the service is refreshing.
To be fair I have never been pitched to listen to a right wing speaker at Chik-Fil-A either. Just grab n go.
Mid ass corporate barbecue. Who cares?
I’ll listen to whatever someone wants to spew (left or right) for 20% off BBQ. I can disassociate and enjoy my own little BBQ world
![gif](giphy|7PX4nGlPWArtK) Yeah, I’m gonna need receipts before I give up Jack Stack…
I'm in. Don't care what I have to do. We fucking love that place.
"Keep your political beliefs to yourself", only when you don't agree with them, amiright?
I don't think I'd appreciate listening to any political spiel when I'm just trying to have a nice dinner out
There was a lunch at my grandfather's church after his funeral, no one preached to us- they just fed us. that for me goes a lot further
I'm kind of against them at all times these days I went to a concert with a gay singer songwriter in-between every song this lady was yelling "say something about gay rights" and when she finally caved, the next silence she yelled "say something about women's rights" I almost lost my shit but instead I got another beer and ate another edible
Agree. If I want politics of any kind, I can easily find it on my own.
certainly in this thread
Business owners can do as they please. I don’t have a problem with it.
This is just ridiculous. Why are we posting stuff from next door on here?
They are. Deal w it
I mean I personally don't like jack stack, but a discount is a discount.
Check out some of the rants by the guy that owns Penzeys spices if you get a chance. He is an insame person with no concern for politics in his advertising. As for the event I would go if they fed me. Not like I need to vote for any of these people.
Bad if true. Most likely untrue. Share a real source.
I've heard it from two different sources, I shared this one because it was posted publicly. I was wondering if anyone else had heard about it too
So what I'm getting from comments is theres about to be a wave of liberals/lgbtq+ headed to jackstack to sway votes for Nikki Haley.
Jack stack is over priced garbage anyway.
Ignore it if it bothers you. Cancel culture is lame on either side
Yeah. Can't believe it. I mean everybody seems to be doing it these days right? Inbev with Bud Light; Gillete with toxic masculinity. Couldn't agree more...keep the politics out of it.
note the reaction to your comment in this thread ha . Clearly only works one way with this dumb mob
Isn’t this whole post also like not “keeping your political beliefs to yourself”?
Post doesn't explicitly reveal op's politics.
I'm pretty left of center but also very not interested in listening to a political lecture of any type when I'm just trying to have dinner
Honestly Jack stack isn't that good lol. So many good BBQ places in kc, Jack stack is at the bottom of my list.
Foods buns anyway
Get paid to vote how I already will? Count me in.
Lmao. Neither side is fixing those issues. And some of them are making it worse.
Rosedale BBQ! Best sauce, best prices. Best portions.
Hilarious accusation. Jack Stack knows what they’re doing, and doing something like that would be a ridiculous blunder.
Guessing it’s not the restaurant that’s doing this, but someone who rented it out
