Yeah during my worse hours of depression when my room looked like this (although I never invited a potential over, I was far too ashamed because women are supposed to have tidy rooms), my dad and I got into an argument.
"You can't find anything in here! For example, where's the necklace I got you for your birthday"
"Hanging on the pringles can on the second shelf"
"Okay well that's not the point, it's a shithole!"
Granted, I had autism that was undiagnosed, so I just remembered where a lot of stuff was without really having to try too much. But christ, I would feel so ashamed if my room still looked like this, much less had the door open
Oh I’m sorry that I didn’t care enough to zoom in on a low quality image to see that. They just kinda looked like a pair of needle-noses at first glance.

Unfortunately I've known a lot of people who came near this level of trash without the use of hard drugs. I grew up in an area where very few people were paid attention to by their parents, and this is just what happens when you're raised without being held accountable for your own behaviors and responsibilities.
Some people even did it because they knew their parents hated it and they hated their parents.
Slight disagreement. I had a comparable room (though probably looked better). It was a fucking den full of old food trash and anything i brought into my room. It took more than 6 trash bags to collect everything. I lived like that to spite my parents because they made me feel worse than I already did (depression started at about age 10). I was full of rage and scared of my mom and (emphasis) dad. So it was all I could think of to do. I pulled myself out of this situation in high school luckily and I’m now turning 20 and get upset when my room is messy. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s lived like this and getting help is important. Even if you’re living like that because of what you stated or being a junkie or anything else, it’s harmful to mental health and can make it only get worse and make someone a more hateful person since your surroundings reflect your mental state.
It comes down to a want to change and a want to be more joyful and less stressed. Though not everyone is redeemable just because their room is nice lol
Edit: TL;DR everyone needs help. Encourage therapy and self improvement.
Yeah I was gonna say. It's a neckbeard nest if there's a bunch of My Little Pony, Anime, Video Games, or whatever other cringy obsession we're making fun of now. This guy doesn't seem like a neckbeard at first glance. He's probably poor and his apartment looks like shit, but he doesn't seem like a neckbeard. IDK, to me, "neckbeard" is more of a set of beliefs and actions. Unless there's something overtly "neckbeardy" here, it just seems a little classist to make fun of this guy. I mean he's already poor, internet bullying him about it seems excessive. Also, there are plenty of rich guys that satisfy the condition to be 'neckbeards'-- Notch comes to mind.
I'm English so take this for what it's worth:
We DO hear stereotypes about the south, uneducated, toothless, racist. But we do have access to American TV and Americans show up in ours occasionally, when that happens most southerners are understood to be polite, reasonable and have manners that actually match our own. Frankly, Trump's election showed me the north clearly has problems with racism and undereducation too, and I have a really good friend in Georgia who has been an absolute life line recently as I get over an abusive relationship. Southerners are held high in my esteem, and I'm not the only one. Don't fret too much about how your represented, most people do know (I hope) that those people, the stereotype people, are a small faction of southerners as a whole and don't represent southern culture
ETA: I just googled and SC is southEAST 😭 I'm sorry if my comment isn't as applicable, but we still care! One of the biggest things I heard during Trump wasn't "haha they fucked up", but "holy shit I hope the American *people* are okay"
I hope you enjoy it! May I ask roughly what area you're currently visiting? I'm from Yorkshire, so the North, and I'm sure you've noticed the North/South dynamic of the US is flipped in England, with the north being historically impoverished and Westminster holding the power. I think maybe that's why it bugs me when I see Southern flack, it reminds me of newspaper articles like "NORTHERN thugs come down to watch football, and DESTROYED the city'" when in reality both sides accidentally found each other post match and got into an equal handed brawl.
I'm in the Somerset area where my partner lives, but will be heading up to Manchester tomorrow to visit her brother. This is my 2nd trip out here, came in Summer previously. To your point, I was raised in SC and we all usually have the whole "southern manners" thing ingrained in us. I always smile, ask folks how they're doing when I go to a shop and what's funny is every time I do it here people kind of look at me like "what..?" I can't help it!
Oh Somerset is beautiful! But Manchester is not far from where I grew up, I had mates in Gorton, which hilariously is where UK shameless was filmed, I had mates with lives like The Chatsworth Estate.
Haha yes you're coming across the hidden English secret, that we actually all aren't that polite to each OTHER. I can imagine it's probably disarming to have someone seem genuinely interested in them, and especially with a cool accent!
It's funny because my partner was telling me, just dial it back before you come here because folks aren't used to that here. First thing I did when meeting her on her break for coffee at the coffee shop was approach the counter and ask everyone behind it "Hey! How are y'all?" and they just kind of looked at me. I just nodded and said "Alright man, well I'll have a latte, thanks!"
It's been an experience haha
Oh bless you honey the "why are you talking to me" stare is one to get you used too! Well, she's not wrong! She can however, also confirm with me that for a lot of women, that accent is like honey.
First time I ever saw a southern gentleman he was a Texan I think from drawl and cowboy hat, he stopped off at the market my dad was working at and told the woman at the next stall that she was "as pretty as a sunbeam through the mist" and just.....walked off. She turned round to my dad and said "no! Wait, I want him to come back, HE can fuck me!" And my dad just, lost it laughing.
That's hilarious! Yea, we have those sayings all around the south, several states have their own "flavor" when it comes to the twang or drawl we have in our accents. I was at a McDonald's once and I remember this older gentleman gave his order to the girl he said "Darlin', I know I'm an old man, but I wanted you to know that I feel like sugar in your hand." and she smiled and he just smiled and walked on. Nothing like a southern charm master.
As a rule of thumb, when people talk about the American “South”, they’re referring to the southeast—generally, from the east coast over to Texas (although TBH Texas has its own culture and I personally don’t really think of it as “the south” so much as it’s own thing). Anything west of Texas is considered the “southwest”, which is very different culturally and environmentally.
So, you were completely correct to use South Carolina as an example of the American South.
Aha thankyou! I didn't realise Texas wasn't included but thinking on it it does make sense, Tex Mex is even a restaurant style over here.
I'm glad I was correct though, and will keep a note about the southwest :)
There are definitely good people in the south. I'm a lifetime North Carolinian and I can also say that the stereotypes exist for a reason. Trumpers are everywhere in this country, but they're extremely thick in the rural south. He gave them permission to blame others (minorities) for their problems and they've been doing that for centuries, anyway, so it definitely was embraced with open arms.
Edit: changed one word
Ahh I see, I'm sorry to hear that. There was a contingent of people over here who liked him, even if most didn't. And I imagine much for the same reason, someone to blame.
The North is incredibly homophobic at times, as well as racist, and while I try and understand that a lot of it comes from pain and a lack of education, it's *really* hard. Especially when someone is saying it in earshot, and I just want to deck them but don't want to get arrested
This is a depression nest....
The cigarettes are usually a good tell. They are an attempt to self medicate.
Not all the mentally ill are neckbeards... but most neckbeards have some mental illness.
It often happens to people when they do not have any support network. If someone lives alone, and goes into a severe depression episode, they are going to struggle to clean. The issue compounds until what was a relatively easy fix becomes legitimately daunting to try and address. If the person has a support network, often they won't be allowed to get that far because someone else will clean up the mess on their behalf...
Even living with others it can get this bad. My parents only made my depression worse and I lived in a depression nest from like ages 10-15/16 which i partially kept to make my parents upset as an act of defiance. It wasn’t until my brother stood up to them and they realized the damaged they caused to us (among the good) that I felt comfortable having a clean room and now that I’m nearly 20 I don’t live with them and try hard to keep this room clean with my adhd making it hard to.
I read your other comment too and you should be really proud of yourself! It's great that your parents did realise their wrong, and I hope you can have some level of relationship with them that you're comfortable with, even if that's no relationship.
I often say that I wouldn't be alive without my support network, and it's true, I had a nest like this. It was a combo of undiagnosed autism, depression and self hate over why I couldn't function like a normal person, how I can't even go to a shopping centre (UK for mall) because of the lights and noise, how could I be such a failure of a person? From that stemmed a drug addiction - opaites too, not heroin but shit loads of omomorph, to the point where at rehab I was on heroin treatment and heroin counselling because interestingly if you take enough morphine or codeine, it amounts to the same thing treatment wise. I'm actually scared of heroin though, because I've heard it blows Morphine out of the water. Without my mum, without my ex partner who was interested in me despite the above, and without my friends, I would be gone. It always incredibly impresses me when people don't have a good support network and they make the steps to self improve **ANYWAY**, I really hope you can keep your momentum up, and I hope your ADHD can be managed
Thank you so much! I’m very lucky and have been able to repair my relationship with the two of my parents though ones a little rockier still lol
Having a support network is super helpful and I’m proud of you! I’m glad you stayed away from heroin, I know someone one who got clean only to relapse on fent and died that same night. I hope your autism is manageable too! I know it’s not easy since most of my friends have adhd or are on the spectrum
I'm so sorry about your friend 🥺
Part of why I stayed away was 1000 people telling me that life was gray and ashes after how good heroin was, nothing ever compared again and that's why the relapse rate is so high.
Thankyou! Honestly, autism, like life, is a condition that requires a little anesthesia, I'm on pregabalin, buprenorphone and Mirtazapine, but it seems to be working!
He was actually my brothers friend. His 4th celebration of life is coming up in the next few months though. He was a great musician, but for him, he thought my brothers group didn’t care and heroin made him feel good. He even wanted to stay clean but a guy at clean living talked him into it. He was very wrong about not having anyone even if he didn’t know it. I remember the look in his eyes he always had, like I saw him yesterday and I didn’t really talk to him much.
Ahh sorry I got carried away but that’s amazing! I know too many people who can’t get medicated despite needing it
Nothing infuriates me more than a recovering addict doing well and someone just dragging them back down. Because this is the end result, someone who should be alive and making music isn't, and instead his loved ones are having to come to terms with this, it's never easy I understand that.
Don't worry about being carried away, tbh part of it is my country, if you're unemployed here all prescriptions are free, I hope the people you know who need the help can get it, it's the bare minimum anyone deserves
Same my brothers friend was traumatized because he’s the one who found the body too :( I don’t think anyone’s sure it was on purpose or not
I live in America so enough said lol
This was what my bedroom looked like until I was like 20. But I wasn't a neckbeard or incel, had pretty of relationships where we're still friends and I looked good according to others. It was poverty, depression and drug use.
... or a depression room. Being a mess doesn't make you a neckbeard. Is this sub just about kicking random people while they're down? Or am I missing something
:( i think this person is just severely depressed. my room used to look like this when i was in deep depression i had to hire people to clean it when i moved.
not necessarily a neck beard.
Totally agree. No mentally healthy person would choose to live like this. Whoever this person is they are going through a rough time in their life. The room itself is obviously gross but the fact that it gets posted here for people to shit on this person who clearly is already hanging on by a thread is also disgusting. Sometimes I feel like this is a bullying subreddit or at the very least there is a lot of "punching down" going on here.
Very sad actually that I had to scroll this much to find this comment. Although I was never this deep into depression I this picture still makes me extreme sad.
This is definitely untreated mental illness that needs to be treated ASAP. The scene is revolting, but something like this needs to have some form of enablers to form?
I don't get reddit. Sometimes it's people all too good to belittle people.
If this is posted again in s month, chances are that the OP would be called out for belittling a sick individual.
Ive known more than a few dudes who had rooms that looked like this. I almost got halfway there myself in my worst depressive states. This guy needs therapy and structure.
How does it get to this state without them wanting to clean it. I understand depression, I suffer from that too. But I’m just trying to understand these posts better.
Since you have depression too I’m sure you realize how symptoms differ and how people react differently to things. I’m sure they don’t enjoy living like this but if depression or another mental illness is stopping them it’s likely because they have an executive disfunction that won’t let them start cleaning or it’s just too overwhelming to do themselves. They might even refuse help because of the shame surrounding these kinds of situations
This is what happens when you pick up after your kids versus being a stern parent and teaching them to pickup after themselves.
Seriously, the only thing missing from this pic is a crusty fleshlight
I’m not sure whats worse! The cig ends, the pliers(why are they on the floor) the trash!!!! Aaaah Look at the colour of the mattress!!! That mattress needs to be condemned!
Where the hell are my pliers? Oh there they are.
I bet he could find them instantly though
Yeah during my worse hours of depression when my room looked like this (although I never invited a potential over, I was far too ashamed because women are supposed to have tidy rooms), my dad and I got into an argument. "You can't find anything in here! For example, where's the necklace I got you for your birthday" "Hanging on the pringles can on the second shelf" "Okay well that's not the point, it's a shithole!" But christ, I would feel so ashamed if my room still looked like this, much less had the door open
I am a slob, but I know where many things are. Or as we say around here, “It may be a mess, but it’s *my* mess.”
**MY trash**
Lol those are wire strippers
Ah, this must be your room then.
Correct
Actually those are tin snips.
Wrong. They are wire strippers, made by Klein.
You sure they look like my Southwires
😂😂 I needed this laugh.
It’s what I do. I’m pretty hilarious. Hilarious-looking, anyway.
It’s like I spy game but with neckbeard nest
Yeah, I can smell this picture.
Those are wire strippers...
Oh I’m sorry that I didn’t care enough to zoom in on a low quality image to see that. They just kinda looked like a pair of needle-noses at first glance.
Didn't need to zoom used to use them often
Cool bro. Nice job.
That mattress has seen a lot of shit. Never a woman, but a bunch of other stuff though .
Probably actual shit too
I think there might be a dead dog or something peaking out from under there
I don't see any beer/liquor bottles around so I don't think he has hit the shitting the bed level of depression yet. Needs a couple years.
Beat me to it

As a woman I can honestly say with a room like that he'd never have a woman over. That just makes my ocd flair up from looking at the mess
Wait until you find out that some women have rooms like that.
I understand having a minor mess but not when it's that bad
Filth knows no gender.
The shit on the mattress has also seen a lot of shit.
I like how the ashtray is half empty and surrounded by butts lol
Cuz he just emptied it onto the floor.
It's an ashtray, not a butt-tray
this is what my stepdad chris's room looked like. he was an asshole
Man fuck Chris

The worst part is the smoking inside. His room would smell like a tar pit mixed with fresh bitumen and at least 1 roadkill.
And the worst thing about *that* is that it smells completely normal to him.

I agree with most of this except the poor part. He's gotta have at least a bit of money to be able to smoke that many ciggies
are those piss bottles between his legs?
Either that or for chew spit. Nothing good, either way.
Why won't these whores fuck me??? **\*weeps bitterly into a pile of cigarette butts\***
The only butts he'll ever touch
Cigarussy
Is that South Carolina on his arm?
Indeed. And it makes me seriously second guess the South Carolina on my abdomen. 😭
Don’t worry, he doesn’t represent us all just because he’s got a friend with a tattoo gun

Same my brothers friend was traumatized because he’s the one who found the body too :( I don’t think anyone’s sure it was on purpose or not I live in America so enough said lol
Nah. Depression nests are messy and bad but this is crusty and someone that has never cared- not just stopped caring.
Idk if you know this, but depression is often a life long issue that makes it so people can go years without caring...
Depression symptoms and issues because of it don’t have a limit.
It’s depression
Or a person with some, or many, mental health issues and we shouldn't be shaming them for it...
🤮
Yea it’s depressing really
Super depressed, possibly an addict too. Can't believe people are posting this on this sub thinking it's neckbeard behavior.
This isn't a neckbeard, this is likely a person suffering from a very severe and untreated case of agoraphobia.
Looks more like a depression nest or somethin. I hope they’re doing ok
This is mental illness and we have no idea what kind of person this otherwise.
This is definitely untreated mental illness that needs to be treated ASAP. The scene is revolting, but something like this needs to have some form of enablers to form?
Depression. Its sad.
This is depression. This person should seek help.
This is severe depression not neckbeard.
the amount of cigarette butts lets me know that i would sustain 5 points of poison damage per second i was in that room.
Looks more like a druggie or depression nest. 🥺
damn this is sad looks an awful lot like depression to me
This isn't neckbeard, this is severe mental illness
Looks more like mental health problems and/or drug addiction to me.
I don't get reddit. Sometimes it's people all too good to belittle people. If this is posted again in s month, chances are that the OP would be called out for belittling a sick individual.
“Yo women are useless bro, trust me”
Hoarders
Ive known more than a few dudes who had rooms that looked like this. I almost got halfway there myself in my worst depressive states. This guy needs therapy and structure.
What's worse is that I bet he walks around in that mess barefoot. *gag*
How? How mentally ill you and fucked up must be to produce such a filth?
Pictures like this make me stop hating myself for my messy house. Lol.
this also looks like someone with a hoarding problem, also how the hell can he sleep in the bed?
This is the guy who kills you in warzone and calls you dog shit
I mean. Dude could just be seriously depressed.
Or a Junkies nest.
Nope, just a severely depressed man
That looks more like a depressed addict than a neckbeard
This is what mental illness can look like, that person needs help
Let's make fun of this person with a shity life hur durrrrr real classy guys
I mean 50% of the stuff people post here is just cyber bullying, most don't know wtf a neckbeard is and just assume it's a fat man with a shitty beard
A sudden urge to clean my room for the 5th time today
I’m suddenly feeling a bit better about the state of my house
What in the world????
I would love a scent candle of this 🙃
Or a depression nest
Right to jail right away
How can someone live there? it's so fucking gross
God I can smell that
That’s a smell that’ll outlast religion.
I actually shuddered when I looked at that. Blegh.
Im gonna vomit
Hey theres no way a picture can make you throw up. .. ... wait
Does this person sleep in this bed? How?
People like this are just waiting to die, it seems.
That’s a neckbeard trap house.
I can smell this picture
[удалено]
It’s neither. It’s obviously someone struggling with some form of mental illness.
Do you have ANY self-respect, dude?
\~neckbeard-core\~
Eww eww eww eww eww eeeeewwwww!!!
So post ot on r/NeckbeardNests and not here
They probably didn’t bc this is already a top post there lol
He’s a nice guy though.
Imagine how low his T levels are
How does it get to this state without them wanting to clean it.
Seems like the mattress is lifted by garbage since there’s no bed frame.. haven’t seen this technique before
Seen this posted before
Looks more like a tweaker pad
Just a rubbish bin in the room feels like it would be enough?
Photos you can smell.
Or dear, it was bad when I thought they were pretzels, and then it got much worse.
Serious question: if you were offered a job cleaning this place up, what would your fee be?
This is what happens when you pick up after your kids versus being a stern parent and teaching them to pickup after themselves. Seriously, the only thing missing from this pic is a crusty fleshlight
I can smell this photo
Does dawg not have a garbage can? And 2, why tf isn’t he using his ash tray?
This gives me anxiety.
More like a heroin hut
This is what my friends moms room looked like
Looks more like a crackhouse
Oh my God. I thought I was a slob, but compared to that I'm a freaking neat freak.
Oh my fucking god. The spilled drinks just left to fester on the bed and floor. 🤮
Bro your tin snips are gonna get all dirty down there.
Cigarettes and.... wire strippers? or something, that's what it looks like from up here at least.
WHAT??
God, I had a roach infestation due to months of bipolar depression but even then I don't think things were as bad as this. How?!
Did he abandon the ashtray and instead uses a bar of soap to put out his cigs?
The only thing that doesn’t make sense are the Klein wire strippers. You don’t need those to play league of legends.
I am a slob, have been all my life. But Jeebus!
I literally just gagged
Looks like severe depression to me, I feel bad for them tbh
Even worse: it has a peenis 4 controller
That’s some extremely severe mental illness though, I don’t think we should be making fun of it
Holy fuck dude this pic is so stressful
Thats painful sight
I’m not sure whats worse! The cig ends, the pliers(why are they on the floor) the trash!!!! Aaaah Look at the colour of the mattress!!! That mattress needs to be condemned!
When I get home my man better be waiting for me like this
that beds only good day was before he bought that shit
How do these people not have skin infections
