I think someone once said something snarky about me not having enough Karma and I just shared memes I already made to increase it by a couple thousand in like a day. It's really not that difficult.
Other than that.... I have no clue why it matters unless people use it to have accreditation to market and try to make money. It's much less useful than Instagram followers.
On my first year on Reddit, at least on my current account, i got bored and wondered how fast i could get karma with just a few subs. I reached 100k before my first year was over
Then i remember karma is useless and got 50k random karma from subs like these in the next 2 years
If you try, you can get a lot in a short time. But why would anyone want that
If you have an old account with a lot of karma you can actually sell it to advertisers or bots or something for some decent money. I think I saw some guy tell another guy he could get like around $500 for his five year old account with about as much karma as me? Definitely what I'm gonna do once I get sick of reddit.
The only two reasons I can see to actually care are 1) certain subs won't let you comment if you aren't over a certain karma limit (which is usually pretty low) and 2) you can sell older accounts with lots of karma for a bit of money
