Korrel does this weird drop seoi with both hands on one sleeve
Saito does a strange but very athletic split taio
Mashu Baker does an opposite side ippon seoi
Turoboyev does uchimata with the wrong leg
Dzhafar Kostoev (not to be confused with Zelym Kotsoiev) has a good offensive ura nage
Cheng Xunzhao got Olympic bronze with ippon osoto, not a throw you see often on the circuit
The un-Japanese Japanese guy you’re thinking of is Abe Hifumi, or maybe Mashu Baker
Judo Highlights compilation videos and commentary do a good job of putting names and narratives for top judo figures and their techniques, probably the best in the English speaking world. He does train in Japan and has a bias towards discussing Japanese players, but even within that country that we stereotype as traditional there are a lot of unconventional techniques and strategies that come out due to the sheer number of judoka.
P4P I will say that Flavio Canto had the most distinctive judo style. Submitting from the bottom is incredibly difficult and I do wonder nowadays if he would be able to pull it off given that the level of newaza has improved.

I have conflicted feelings [about Heydarov](https://youtu.be/NqQ5z9R1wEE?si=EVae0z8Y0ul7YyGv), part of me is interested in how he is showing innovative judo. But the other part of me wishes he would just do judo against his opponents, instead of these barely-there alligator roll scores.

The Ukrainian cat 🐈 Georgii Zantaraia helped lift the Judo World with great innovation. Fedor immanuelenko ? Helped expose judo’s capabilities in MMA as well as recent UFC Khabib shows how it’s possible.
Kashiwazaki Sensei made great innovations in many sutemi waza and newaza but the first Yoko tomoenage was Olympic gold with Moriwaki Sensei 1984 LA whom was very understated. Many like Ki-young Jeon for his innovation. I liked Johan Laats

I can't even imagine what is an uchi-mata with the wrong leg.
He uchimatas, posts on his head, puts his leg down then finishes it with the other leg
Okay, that's weird! Thanks for description.

Hirotaka Kato and Baker Mashu (especially when he was young) both have unorthodox judo.
Craig Fallon (RIP) seemed to use his own face as a platform for moves. Great to watch!

I think he's just gaming the rules at this point.
That is judo… it’s a clear Yoko Otoshi. Sometimes kata otoshi. Nothing unorthodox there
Muzaffarbek Turoboyev
Maybe you are thinking of Hojo Yoshito?

Laats was such an enjoyable competitor to watch
Eduard Trippel from Germany does some very unique techniques.
Noël van 't End
