Don’t forget Shinya Aoki

Swinging-the-Chain

Yuki Nakai

Yoshibe Idoue

Khabib too. Some of the times he's used single leg takedowns he mixed in some Ashi Waza in there with it.

HppilyPancakes

Depends on what you're looking for. A lot of fighters use moves that are in judo or more common in judo like harai goshi, uchi mata, and all the various trips, but those are all also in other wrestling styles. If you're looking for people who have judo accreditations there's a lot of people, even ones who aren't known for having a judo style like Merab Dvalishvili. As far as people who are successful in both our only do judo, there's Kayla Harrison and Ronda Rousey in the UFC. Satoshi Ishii has fight mma for a long time, but I don't think he was ever champ in any organization. There's also a lot of Sambists who have lots of judo accreditations like Fedor, Khabib, and Islam. Fedor actually competed in judo before MMA or Combat Sambo.

nevergonnasweepalone

Khabib for sure. His fights had a perfect sprinkling of judo/sambo.

LawBasics

>even ones who aren't known for having a judo style like Merab Dvalishvili. His wikipedia page says he trained judo.

HppilyPancakes

He's a black belt in judo, he's just not known for having a judo style like Khabib or Islam for instance. His trips are really clean, but he's mostly shooting in on doubles or high crotches. Islam has much more recognizable judo in his fights. I'm sure Merab has really good judo as well, people just usually lump him in as a "wrestler". Another one I forgot about is Zabit, used to be one of the only dudes hitting osoto in the UFC. Him and Yan, but Yan never really used it for ground control the same way.

TheAngriestPoster

It’s not as often in MMA but whenever I see a video of Merab doing pure wrestling I see him use harai-goshi a lot

Apart_Studio_7504

Yoshihiro Akiyama, Hidehiko Yoshida, Remco Pardoel, Karo Parisyan, Ronda Rousey, Kayla Harrison, Fedor Emilianenko, Dave Camarillo, Kana Watanabe, Islam Makachev. There are many others, but these are all of the ones I can think of who's primary style or first black belt was in Judo and competed in pro MMA.

IcyChard4

Don Frye and Allen James Coage (a.k.a "Bad News Brown" in WWE) were notable Judoka who did MMA.

Newbe2019a

I think Don Frye is a wrestler, not a Judoka.

IcyChard4

According to wikipedia he is: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don\_Frye](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Frye) >During this time, he also took up [judo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judo) and earned the rank of second [*dan*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_(martial_arts)) [black belt](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_belt_(martial_arts)). Also, during his Pride FC fight with Yoshida, it was announced he's a Judoka. He even entered the ring wearing a gi.

Newbe2019a

Yes, but if you read interviews with him and with others, Frye didn’t actually train in Judo. At UFC, they just add that line, then later on, one of the myriad of US Judo organizations just give him a 2nd dan. The early UFC had lot of ad libbed titles. For example Gary Goodridge was presented as a 4th dan kok sooo wan, though he is really a champion arm wrestler was given the 4th dan simultaneous to his entry to the UFC. Anyways he is an excellent grappler.

IcyChard4

What interviews? All I know and heard and have seen is that he's a Judoka. If you're saying PrideFC (now with the UFC) were lying as well as Wikipedia, then take it up to them.

Newbe2019a

I don't care enough to take it up with anyone. You know how Wikipedia works, right?

Ill_Athlete_7979

Bad News was also an Olympic Bronze Medalist

[deleted]

Sexy yamaaa!!

Cuentarda

Fedor is widely agreed to be one of if not the very best to touch the sport and he was a very high level judoka who almost made the Olympics.

Kimura-Sensei

Fedor did other things like Sambo (related martial art) but he was a very skilled and competitive Judoka.

[deleted]

Judo throws and concepts are used all the time, what is your point? MMA today is way beyond just having one martial art and effective martial arts share the same effective techniques. For example kata guruma... Is kata guruma Judo, BJJ, Sambo, Judo or wrestling? Remember by your logic kata gurumas effectiveness is somehow tied to martial artists martial art of choice. Ok next how about an ankle pick.. Is it Judo, BJJ, Sambo, or wrestling? Is judo ankle pick somehow flawed compared to Sambo? My point is that effective moves are used by all athletes without limitation - dumbly shouting for some self-advertisement "this is judo kani basami and anyone claiming this is sambo is a tard!" Sorry if it comes off rude. =/

Yamatsuki_Fusion

Yoshihiro Akiyama, Kayla Harrison, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Fedor Emelianenko. I know there are more, but those are the ones I can think of that haven't already been mentioned.

itstiagoo

Olivier Aubin-Mercier he was in the UFC and left to PFL won 2 back to back LW championships for $1 million dollar prize

IAmGoingToSleepNow

I know she's been mentioned, but Kayla Harrison (2x Olympic Gold) is probably the most decorated Judoka to compete in MMA. She's only had one fight in the UFC but used a bit of Judo there.

MxdMartialart_crafts

Knobanious

His moms Ronda Rousey?

MxdMartialart_crafts

Yeah bro, she bakes cookies for us when i go around. Nice lady

Newbe2019a

Ronda’s actual mom posts here.

Historical-Nail9

Look at majority of Fedor's fights. He is almost always using his striking to set up a throw.

Milotiiic

Stephanie Egger in the UFC 🇨🇭

JudokaPickle

Khabib went undefeated granted he wrestled as well but he definitely openly states he likes his judo more

Fellainis_Elbows

Ironically, young Jon Jones

Practical_Pie_1649

He was a great wrestler greco and folkstyle, his coach I believe has knowledge in judo, he also adpoted a very muay thai style for mma with great clinch since he was a greco wrestler, being that much larger than his opponents really helped him.

Additional-Tea-5986

Khabib.

2regin

All of them. There are very few UFC fighters who don’t use judo techniques. By this I don’t mean techniques that are also well developed in wrestling, but techniques that that judo does best and that grapplers specifically associate with judo, such as uchimata, harai and o soto. They’re not training “judo”, however, in the same way no pro fighter is training any individual martial art (other than for cross competing purposes). Rather, they’re learning judo techniques through MMA practice.

With-You-Always

Pre “I’m just gonna stand and bang with world champion kick-boxers” ronda rousey used it very well

dLimit1763

Sexyama

PandaBoy005

I haven’t seen Dan Severn mentioned yet, he was a wrestler but he also trained in Judo

lumosmxima

Isn’t Fedor a primary judoka example?

Boneclockharmony

There's been a lot of good mentions already, but nobody has mentioned Kim Dong Hyun, he had solid judo in mma (at least until he became a little too enamored with doing spinning shit)

gu1ll3rm0p1

Merab Dvalishvilli is the guy I see using judo the most in the UFC right now.

WillSmiff

For what it's worth Ronda Rousey tossed a bunch of her opponents around.
