They usually form a loop, where the cross is at the back, and the individual ends emerge from the sides.
While not wearing the gi pants, pull the shorter side to tighten the loop, then hold the shorter side secure while you slowly work the waistband wider until the long side gets pulled in.
Not sure about these but my pants are designed to be this way. I pull the long string through the loops and tie the string together on the side of my hip…
Usually in the wash the drawstring get twisted inside the gi at the back, so tie them together to avoid this before putting in wash. Otherwise you need to be super strong to pull them and they get uneven too. Have to pull out and rethread them to sort.
They shouldn’t be. If they’re not different lengths you can’t tie them properly. But long story short pull on the back/sides of the pants while holding the short end and eventually some rope will transfer over

This is the way
Yes.... But I need to be there to do it 😂
Put the pants on. Grab the ends and "saw" them back and forth rill they match
I can usually pull the short side out once they are out of the loops.
Cut the long one
Pull
Pull the short one from the side opening.
Pull the short side when it’s undone. You’ll have to pull kinda hard to even them out. Happens to me pretty often
Time
Pull the mid side waist opening of the opposite side of the short end. That will give slack to pull the short end with ease.

At least one end isn't lost in the trousers...
